Fantastic place to go if you're a tourist and don't really want to get your hands dirty with a good Aussie camping experience
Loved Kingfisher Bay Resort. Would like to spend more time there.
Good place to spend a few days in the island. Located in front of the bay, very near the ferry.
Awesome location and amenities and loved our cool dingo tour but horrible check-in process (reason for poor rating). My wife and I were received poorly at mainland reception, told that they couldn't find our booking but all would be fine at the resort and our bags would be in our room. We were received at the resort reception and told we had to walk back to the jetty from where'd arrived to find our keys at the jetty bar. They weren't there and were told to track down a ranger who had our keys in his pocket. We found him on the beach but he couldn't tell us why reception had given them to him and didn't know why my wife and my keys said didn't room numbers. We had to walk back to reception to be told that this was an error but then wait while they tried and worked out what room we were. Finally, we get into our room over an hour after arriving and our bags weren't there. We then had to get the help of a kitchen staff member to locate our bags. They suggested we try the baggage lockup. We walked there and found it was locked. We then went back to this staff member who arranged for someone to open it while we had dinner. We finally had our bags almost 3hrs after arriving. We were given a complimentary drink for our trouble but that didn't make up for the stress of not knowing where our bags were. Many of the staff we dealt with were pleasant and wanted to help but seemed to be either too inexperienced or poorly trained to know how e.g. it took 3 staff members 5-10mons to sort which room my wife and I were actually in when we'd been given different numbers and the most senior walked off while it was still being sorted and said I'm sure they'll sort it out. I'll be in touch with the resort after our stay as I think this reflects a serious staff training issue.
Nice bay , beautiful beach walk with a lot of soldier crabs thousands off them!
Quite peaceful stay and beautiful architecture ... Must visit
The island was a real stunner. 11/10. Could not say the same for the hotel or food. Why do you think I spent so much time outside.
A beautiful resort on Fraser Island. Nice spacious reception and restaurant. Good food and drink. Swimming pool is at the restaurant.
Gorgeous resort, excellent food, great service, I highly recommend this experience. Would be a perfect place for a wedding or honeymoon.
We were put in a wilderness log a long way from anywhere by are tour company not what we had booked.
I guess its the 'fanciest' place on the Island. Had a good time, nothing exceptional though
Fraser Island is such an awesome place, and Kingfisher Bay Resort would have to be one of the best places to stay on the island. We stayed in one of the houses at the resort, which was very spacious with a nice outlook over the water. There are 4 pools at the resort (plus a hot spa), with the main pool being popular with kids, but the other pools being much quieter if that's your preference. Poolside food and drinks also a plus!
Make sure you explore Lake McKenzie, which is about 30-40 mins via 4x4 from the resort.
Beautiful Island especially the Lake McKenzie is very nice and a must.
Beautiful spot, just kick back and relax, everything you could ever want is here. Staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Plenty to keep you and the kiddies busy...or not if you prefer. Most favourite place for a quick Sunday or longer.
Staff friendly efficient and helpful. Breakfast buffet under covid rules not good. No vegetarian options
Really friendly staff. The weather was perfect, and mornings on the dock watching the sea life was amazing.
Great experience beautiful environment Fraser Is is a must see place Natural beauty fauna and flura Kingfisher Bay Resort was magic the staff friendly the food top notch 5/5
Amazing service and very kid friendly with a great kids program, giving parents much time to themselves. More of destination for doers- with hikes, camping, 4wd and swimming areas everywhere. Lake McKenzie a absolute stand out. Staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Wonderful accomodation and service. The guided walks and bus tours were great. My only criticism is the menu choices were limited and expensive.
Well the actual resort is lovely the atmosphere is great, peaceful and the serenity is spectacular.
The rooms are dated the furniture is a touch on the nose and the stereo and appliances could do with an upgrade for convenience.
We had dinner at the restaurant and I must give compliments to the chef the 270 gram sirloin was cooked to perfection close the best steak I've eaten and I know my steak! Mushrooms on top added the finishing touch.
The down side I am disappointed to say is the salad bar was worse than the wogga Rsl baker dinner, veggies no tast over steamed and the salads were not even rabbit food. My fat little 2 year old will eat kangaroo poo and turned his nose up at the salad bar!
Desert was ok ice cream too cold we couldn't scoop it and fruit flies all over the fruits.
I smiled and paid as the steak took me home.
Over all a really good place to stay, I hope this review can be taken and improvements made as it's so close to being a five star resort given the location and magical place.
Attractive location, reception Inglese old style, spacious villas with balconies and whirlpool, but old-fashioned, basic and not very clean.
It was ok. The spa wasn't working and The pool bar was closed. The upgraded room had me wondering how ordinary the regular rooms might be. The food was great some days and below average on others.
The staff were all great, happy and helpful. The location was magical, can't beat that!
A great pkace to get away and relax /unwind the staff are super helpful .
This should definitely be on your bucket list. The easy check in on the main land, ferry ride over, to your room there is nothing you need to do.. staff more than helpful they go out of there way..everything is clean.. you must do the tours Paul PT is a terrific tour guide he makes the trip fun, lake McKenzie to swim in is just beautiful lake Eli lovely abit cold as it s again fresh water and so much more...we will be back...
Great place, everyone made to feel very welcome, good atmosphere and facilities. Cold beer reasonable food, an oasis in the middle of the Sandy strait will be back, a good stop over while sailing through . Ps good ice creams as well.
Awesome spot. Plenty to do for everyone. Great food and pools or just a swim in the bay.
First is the difficult task of getting to this resort. Pack your car in Hervey Bay then drive a lot of kls to River mouth.
Then unpack your car drag your bags to an office. Check in re park your car.
Then wait to board a bus to go 2 mins down a hill to a 2 star barge
Get off the bus and wait again as cars have presidents to board.
Climb steep steps. NOT DISABLED FRIENDLY
Same procedure to leave the resort.
Room at the resort is blatantly set up to force you to the very over priced restaurants
First no toaster any motel has one . 2nd 1 small plate,1 teaspoon,1 knife.
There were 6 glasses some matching,3 mugs not matching.
Breakfast buffet $28 dollars per head. I for one would not and did not consider this. As a spoon full of scramble egg and some toast is not worth this.
Dinner In the mid price range restaurant reasonably priced a main course and then buffett good value.
Sand Bar I consider this to be very expensive. My Barra Hamberger ??
Cost 15.95.Consisted of small piece of fish 2 thin slices of tomato and 2 very small lettuce leaves .No fries no extras these were available at I think $5.95 per serve. All in All a very poor Australian experience. never to be repeated. I find my dollar going further on cruises and overseas.
Pool and pool towels. No waiter service around pool except near lunch with food . Towels not available at Pool go to front desk climb a set of stairs or take a long walk out through pool area and up a ramp.
This resort management needs a lesson in service and disability friendly
environment
NOT ONE OF MY MORE ENJOYABLE BREAKS
Best place we have stayed at fraser island, 2 bedroom villa
Love this place. Only thing decent on the island outside of camping
A fabulous resort with lots to offer. Be careful anything that is purchased on the island is overpriced.
- dated
- poor quality of food
- overpriced
- rooms smell
- not clean
- poor customer service
- sense of urgency next to none
- location good
- island good
- would not rate this as 4 star
I would recommend the island but not the resort. This place needs alot of work, it is dated in all aspects - the building, the food they serve and how the staff interact with the clients at the resort.
Amazing location, great place to holiday to have a break from technology.
Great place for a getaway! Lovely staff! Try the bush Tucker menu at seabelles, hire a 4x4 and explore Fraser island!
Fantastic holiday experience
Super friendly and helpful staff
Will definitely be back!
WARNING TO POTENTIAL CONSUMERS. As a regular annual destination favourite to Fraser Island, I decided on this occasion to utilise the King Fisher ferry/barge service for my 4WD. NEVER AGAIN.. Coming over to Fraser I noticed others experiencing some issues where they weren t on the manifest despite having booking/confirmation documentation in their possession. As they were turned away due to capacity issues, I was glad that I somehow made it on the manifest despite their obvious administrative inabilities.
However, my return trip was a different story! Having a long drive home and time constraints, I went to the Resorts administration and confirmed that I was booked on the 1pm ferry/barge. I was told I was and I was given confirmation documentation to secure this. Patiently lining up for the barge I was approached by the ferry/barge attendant and informed that I was not on the manifest, despite me showing her the confirmation documentation. She said, oh, this happens all the time you will only board if there is room for you, otherwise we may find a spot for you on the 5pm service . I was required to move from the line-up while those on the manifest boarded.
As one could appreciate, it was difficult for me to deal with this in a professional manner, in which I did. This professional manner differed on the other end and I found her interaction quite rood, arrogant and unsympathetic..
It is strongly recommended that if you re travelling to Fraser Island by 4WD, it is best to utilise the ferry/barge service from Rainbow Beach. There is no booking required and there is always enough barges to satisfy the demand in any season. Not only is this option much cheaper, you get to experience a broader sightseeing adventure of Fraser Island and Rainbow Beach, quicker and reliable travel, and a guarantee that your 4WD will get onto the barge. Don t take the risk of travelling with King Fisher ferry/barge service as there is no guarantee that you re on it, despite being in possession of a boarding pass.
The hotel itself is in a fantastic place and offers some great activities, however having to pay for WiFi and the ferry makes me wonder what you are actually paying for considering its the most expensive place on the island. Great hotel that completely cheapens itself
Fraser island is a natural wonder of the world but it would have been more enjoyable if the saggy beds were updated & the weak shower had some water pressure. There is also no room service so unless you can walk long distances particularly after a long day it can be a real problem.
Location is great. Rooms are basic and mine stunk. Restaurants are good. Parking while staying here is difficult
Fantastic place to bring family and friends to relax and see the sites.
A wonderful relaxing place to unwind and getaway from everything. The staff are very friendly and the place is very unspoilt
Beautiful resort !
Nice food, great staff, sweet swimming pool and even a Jacuzzi !!!
Great food and fantastic place to relax and explore
If you go via the east coast the road west is a real 4WD test. When you get there it is worth the drive. Great staff and good food. The west coast is much quieter with calm waters. Great for fishing.
Nice quiet place with plenty of natural flora and fauna to see on lots of the walks. Found the food to be expensive as you would expect on an island.
Beware no toasters unless in villas. No kitchenettes either
A trip to fraser island in our boat, a swim in the pool by the sports bar and Coffee in the amazing surrounds of kingfisher resort...priceless
Before Mercure, I gave a 5/5, now, compared, the service is poor and the hotel is not as well maintained. But hey, we go to Fraser Island for the beauty of the island and the guide we chose was excellent!
Fraser island friendly staff always tried to make the day great . It was raining and even the ducks come in.
I am a Coeliac.
I was blown away by the gluten free breakfast bar offered. As well as all the coeliac options
(gluten free ), at the restaurants.
Well done. Appreciated. Thanks
One of the best holidays we ve had!!! The room was fantastic! Every staff member was incredible! Even the lady who worked at the 4WD hire place came to our rescue when we needed a hand! This is our last night here and we re sad to leave. Next time we ll definitely book for a week. Three nights just isn t enough time to do everything.
The food was awesome and if you have any dietary needs just let the staff know as they re more than happy to accommodate you. We can not fault our stay one bit!
We highly recommend Kingfisher Resort!!
Thank you
Visiting again after over 20 years. The restaurant has just been upgraded but the villas seem a little tired but still comfitable with all you need to self cater. Excellent Christmas Lunch in the Sand & Wood.
Had a fabulous time here.the beauty spots tour with our driver/guide Martin was excellent
Stayed with my family. The top floor was way too hot and needed to turn on the air conditioning for 12hrs to cool the room.
Enjoyed the tour and the activities around the island.
Fabulous place..great staff , very attentive & friendly
We called the Reception around 9am in the morning for a unit cleaning up as there was an incidental spillage, which left the room in a bad smell. We were told the cleaners would come around. Waited in the room for 4 hours and no cleaner came. I called the Reception again and was told the cleaner will usually come in the afternoon now and she even had the gut to ask me if I could wait even longer until afternoon. I replied NO, as we have been holding off our daily activities for this cleaning up Long enough on our holiday.
Still waiting now, real disgrace on the service level. Don't ever think operating like a quasi monopoly on the island should give you the privilege of not attending to your customers like professionals would!
Best hotel on Fraser Island. Great trips arrangement. Just need to renew the bathroom.
The room was very old and dated with limited facilities. We had a dead cockroach in our room one night and alive one the second night, third night
could hear guests above stomping around and snoring. No allocated parking with not much to do at the resort. Staff are professional and friendly.
Beautiful apartment, with everything on it and on it,
We headed to reception for some advice for the 4 of us on tours of Fraser Island and we met the delightful Elvie ! She assured us the weather would be perfect, the tours we booked would be brilliant and the our restaurant booking should would best be done ASAP as the resort was busy with weddings
The beauty Spot Tour was amazing!
The scenic flight down 75 Mile Beach a must!
Murray was our guide and he knew such an incredible amount and was brilliant So if you re looking for an adventure on your doorstep (if your from NSW or QLD) Go to Fraser Island
A natural beauty with so much to offer We absolutely loved it
A very beautiful place. The only remark: there is fee for wi-Fi
Good location, main pavilion is nicely redone, villa rooms need a bit of a makeover
Had a great food share plate at the Sand Bar. Resort looks great, just a little pricey for me.
Great hospitality especially by the Indian staffs of Sand Bar. However the 9.30pm barge was like a fish market - employees off duty were obnoxiously loud and lady who cleaned the boat was rude and very eager to chase everyone off the boat when we haven't even completely docked which could have been unsafe if the waves were the slam the boat and knock us off. Horrible way to end the experience.
Amazing hotel with a spectacular lobby. Its located just by the ferry from Hervey Bay and the sunset beach. Two bars nearby and a souvenirshop. 45 minutes drive to lake McKenzie.
