I've been with Independent for over 2 years.
I've been with many other agencies, and seriously, it's been so painful (with the other agencies) and bad experiences, and when I signed up with Independent, I thought "here we go" , but they proved me wrong... They care for their customers, they fix things ASAP, they check in just to make sure everything is going well and tenants are happy with how things are going, so I don't have anything bad to say! And my current property manager Steph, I mentioned her I needed a new property, but in different suburb, and she made it happen in LESS than a week. They are very committed and very helpful, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else, but Independent!

Terrible property managers. As another reviewer has stated there was 100+ 1 star reviews! "there were over 100 bad reviews here by owners and tenants alike until they recently re-branded".

Getting a response to an email is near impossible and if it doesn't interest them they won't even bother replying. Often late to appointments.

Alaa is possibly the best agent you can imagine. My advertisement was posted on Allhomes immediately. He arranged tax depreciation inspection before tenants move in. Sofia went through quality applicants with me one by one. I found the best tenants for my property. Service here is awesome!

Sofia Ligeros was very helpful from the very beginning, I feel she went one step ahead in helping me secure the property as I needed to move to canberra asap due to work commitments. Trust me, she had all the process done for me in a day. Could you believe that?

Emily Larsen and Zara Gluhak have been in touch with me since I took the keys for the property and even went a step further in giving me a call straight up to ask if everything was okay.
That just shows how much they care about the people they give the property to.

Though the carpets were not clean, but I would excuse the team for that as it is not their fault and may not be aware of it, the colour of the carpet is brown so sort of must have not even looked dirty. I did not even realize myself until I actually moved in. Owning a professional carpet cleaning machine helps ;) hahaha. cleaned for myself in no time.

The entire team at Independent is surely an awesome team. Keep up the great work you do and keep impressing people by your service like you have.

Currently locked out of m y place and trying to get ahny help from the City office to get back in has been awful. I keep getting redirected, no one there wants to help at all.

Beware of this sly organisation what will take every opportunity to get money out of you At every step of ending my tenancy with this organisation they have done wrong by me from over-charging for services to refusing to return rent that they have wrongfully deducted. As soon as you end your tenancy with them they will no longer respond to messaging in a timely manner or action any thing they are responsible for.

The whole process of our new rental was amazing. Liz was professional, knowledgeable and fast to respond to our questions. Glad to be under them for my tenancy. :)

The worst real estate agent in Canberra, they tried to increase rent during the pandemic period

I have been a client of Independent Property Management group for over 22 years. In that time I have been well served by a number of property managers. They have all been attentive and have taken excellent care of my property managment needs. As good as all these property managers have been they don't hold a candle to the property manager I've had for the last few years. Emily Varga has done an excellent job managing my property and has provided me with exceptional customer service during this time. Emily is thorough and professional and deals with any problem in a timely and courteous manner. Her communication skills and attention to detail make her a pleasure to deal with.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have Emily Varga look after our property and have no hesitations in acknowledging her skills and recommending her to manage your property management needs.

Possibly the worst experience of property management I have ever experienced. Over the course of the time I rented w/ this group, I had an ever-revolving door of property managers who all shared a common lack of accountability and lack of knowledge of their own duties and responsibilities.

Renters beware - do not rent with this group. The property managers that I have had the misfortune of experiencing through this company lack accountability, are unprofessional, and have absolutely no knowledge of their own required responsibilities, or the legality of renting situations under ACT law. General examples I can give is that property managers in the past have not conducted required inspections when they have said they would, or have entered the property unlawfully without advance notice.

In particular, I will single out James Ellis as being a poor example of a representative of this company. He was unprofessional, argumentative, uncommunicative, and unhelpful. Notably, one particular example which stands out as possessing all these qualities is when he failed to properly refund my bond and resulted in my waiting for over several months before I did receive it. He did not lodge for the return of my full bond with the ACT Revenue Bond Office as was required on his part, even though he had agreed to it. This resulted in me having to chase it up many times over the course of several months. On each instance when I asked if he could double check he had indeed lodged the bond return from his end, he insisted he had and refused to check. It was only after I contacted the ACT Revenue Bond Office myself, did they inform me that he had never lodged the application for the return of my bond in the first place. When I came back to him with this information, he could not even offer me a simple 'sorry', instead remarking that he had thought he had already done so. The absolute arrogance and unprofessionalism of this situation was the end to a long line of mishandlings by this property manager of the property I was renting, much of which was later professionally advised to me as unlawful.

We have had Independent Property Management look after a property for us for many years and, over this period, we have had some very good - and not so good - service and support from property managers from time to time. In early 2018, Ioanna Vardis took over the role and I have nothing but positive comments concerning the job she has done for us. Regrettably, we have experienced some issues with a tenant in this period (not a case where Ioanna was involved at the time the tenancy started). Ioanna dealt with some very complex issues coolly, professionally and successfully. Communication with us was outstanding and I felt totally informed concerning every development along the way. In summary, Ioanna was excellent and deserves the very highest praise. I just hope that she continues to manage our property for a very long time.

IPG has been involved in renting our property for the last 10 years. Services have been reliable and responsive. The current property manager, Emily Varga, is professional, friendly and attentive. I would recommend her as a property manager to anyone who wishes to rent their property through a professional agent.

Nickie does her job very well as our property manager and does so in a very professional manner at all times. I have Emily Varga as a property manager and I have been so happy with the support and services she has provided to me over the past year or so. Prior to having Emily, I was really struggling with the property managers that were looking after the place I was renting. I had very little support and really struggled to get into contact with them (it could take weeks of me following up before I could get a response). By the time Emily took on my property, I had a number of issues that needed to be resolved and was pretty fed up. Emily addressed all of my issues and provided an extremely high level of support to me, ensuring she was always contactable and providing the highest possible level of customer service. She has gone above and beyond and is an absolute asset to any property management company. She relieved me of so much stress and always makes me feel like I m being listened to. She actions and resolves issues as soon as possible and keeps me in the loop throughout the whole process with everything which is fantastic. Complete lack of attention and competency at this agency. I had a revolving door of property managers who were unhelpful and difficult. They arrived early for my final inspection, over penalised me for the bad condition of the paint job - because paint chipped off when I removed sticky hooks which I have never had an issue with before and had someone from the agency comment that it needed to be redone - so my bond was not returned in full. When I handed back my keys a man was being told he would have to pay his bond before reading his contract, and another guy was there because he had been given the wrong keys.

Liz Harvie was a professional, punctual and overall helpful agent.

I rented a property through Independent for just over 18 months. For most of this time Kayla was my managing agent and she was outstanding! Any issues I did have (problems with appliances/plumbing etc) were always handled as soon as possible and I was always in the know about how they would be resolved. Unfortunately I had to break lease mid way through my second term and Kayla was a great help in this process. I received regular updates and my full bond back and Kayla worked on behalf the owner and myself to provide an outcome that suited everyone. It is very clear that the agents at Independent care about their tenants/owners and making sure the brand is viewed as a quality one.

Independent Property Group are a shockingly incompetent real estate, and I if I could rate them lower I would. Throughout my tenancy, they consistently failed to do basic maintenance (such as failing to install blinds in a bedroom for over 2 years despite repeated requests), failed to pass on water bills till they were long overdue, overcharged rent, lied about submitting bond refund forms (which then took 3 months to be resolved) and regularly and repeatedly failed to respond to calls and emails. I had 5 property managers in 2 years and not one of them was competent.

They are without a doubt the most hopeless organisation I have ever encountered. Prior to their rebranding, their Google review rating was 2/5 stars. Even this would be too generous. Our most recent property manager James Ellis has been without a doubt one of the rudest, most unprofessional individuals I have had to deal with. I would warn anyone considering to rent a property through them to do some research and reconsider.

Emily is a great property manager. She responds to all of my issues or queries (no matter how small) promptly and always follows up to ensure the best outcome. Having had a bad experience with a previous rental situation, I am more than happy now, knowing that the friendly and professional Emily is only a phone call away.

Rented an apartment by Independent. Great experience during the year. Especially our property manager Emily Larsen. She is very professional and responsive when you need maintains and inspection, and won't bother you the rest of time.
But one of the cleaning company independent recommended called ' dream city clean' is awful. She wanted $690 for 1 bedroom apartment, which is ridiculous. Hope you can stop the recommendation and collaboration with them.

Independent Property Management is very unprofessional. I have no idea how they can hold such lots of properties. I inspected a property 5 days ago and applied for it at same day. The email said that I would get response within 3 business days. However, I didn't get any response after 3 days. Then I sent them email and tried to call them to ask the process of my application, but they didn't reply any emails or answer my calling, even I left several voice messages. I had to come to their office this morning and the receptionist told me that 2 of property managers were working from home this morning! God damn it, I wanna give a lower star if Google allows!

I use Emily Varga and she is amazing! As an interstate investor, I need an agent with a hands-on approach and understands that I dont always have the time to dedicate to my tenants and I need an agent that can manage my property with a minimum of fuss and can help me manage my tenants expectations such that I can relax and focus on other things knowing she will take care of things for me in my absence (which is alot) but I dont worry at all, shes got it all covered and I can manage my portfolio with ease.

I highly recommend anyone with an investment property portfolio in Canberra and wanting an active and understanding agent to speak to Emily Varga!
