It’s hard to build a bad home when you spend so much. Of course a million dollar home is beautiful. The communication and transparency is awful. The CEO will lie to your face over and over. No one will ever have answers and if they do, it may or may not be true. This company is not for someone who cares about the money- which many of their customers have too much to care. I hired third parties post build and some workers worked for them in the past and they told me horror stories of how they over charge. I see they’ve taken down past reviews from others if the reviews aren’t good. How Criminal.

I happened to talk to Charlie Murphy while I was in search of our dream home. I didn t have an idea then that we will buy/build new custom luxury home. We absolutely love our home after ICON s work. We moved into a new house that was outdated. We were able to update and refresh our house and give it a complete makeover! Icon has partnered with a good vendors who offer choices for almost any budget. In the rare circumstance that something we wanted wasnt available, Icon went the extra mile to source what we wanted or selectively allowed us to source independently. Throughout the actual home construction, we found the team collaborated very well and was able to deal with the inevitable twists-n-turns involved in a custom build. Our home design consultant and construction manager were outstanding and ensured timely completion.

Building a custom home isn t easy, especially if you haven't done it before. Generally speaking, there are a few parties involved, the land owners, the builder, the bank, the village, the architect and so on. How would you work with all these people? Where do you start? We had no clue. After talking to a few other builders, we met Charlie and we were very sure we wanted to work with Icon. Since a home is a lasting investment, you'd definitely want to work with the best. Thus began our journey! We had a few design meetings initially to understand our space and layout needs. The architect started drawing plans, we chipped in with a few suggestions too. Sean worked on finalizing those plans with us and submitting them to the Village for a permit. The village wasn t very cooperative and wanted a bunch of changes which would require design rework. We went through multiple iterations and each time the team helped us understand what changes were being made. We re sure it wasn t easy but Sean took it up with the village and got us the required approvals. In the meantime we started our selections process with Mark, who is great at what he does. He patiently walked us through the available options and worked with different vendors to give us the best pricing available. He was very accommodating with our crazy schedules and always welcomed us with a smile. We had the pleasure of working with Kristi, the cabinet specialist who is a great designer. She knew our space and had cool ideas to fit our requirements. She gave us 3D drawings of how the kitchen and baths would look like. Those drawings were very helpful in visualizing the final outcome. And soon enough the digging started. Our project manager Chris jumped into the spotlight. He was our point of contact for the entire construction phase. Chris was very accessible and answered any questions we had on the process, sent us pictures of the progress when we were traveling abroad and setup appointments to visit the site for walkthroughs. Rachel helped us with permits, utilities and the village stuff right from the start. We are very grateful and would like to thank everyone else who worked on this home, though we never met them in person. Within 4.5 months, we are standing next to this gorgeous kitchen island, going through our orientation. In a week all the necessary certificates were in place, we got our keys and took possession of our house. We love the fit and finish of the house and how everything blends in seamlessly. We moved into our house a few days later and are busy turning it into a home. We are very happy we chose Icon and if we ever build a house again(which is quite unlikely at this time), we would definitely build with Icon again!
Icon Building Group reconstructed both of my bathrooms after water damaged the drywall . They hung drywall, sanded, painted both bathrooms, and also replaced my ceramic tile base in one of the bathrooms. Joe and his workman did an excellent job and were good people. They did a great job containing the damaged drywall and keeping the mess to a minimum. They cleaned thoroughly before leaving the job site every day. I would highly recommend Icon Building Group and will use them in the future.
A few years ago, we decided to remodel our kitchen from builder grade honey oak to more modern and streamlined. During the planning stages, it turned out we had a leaking master bath and had to remodel that too. Icon was helpful in planning both the bath and kitchen and we were able to finish both within 6 weeks, from demo to completion. They stayed on budget, with the exceptions when we decided for nicer finishes, such as tile, or adding tile to the launders room off the kitchen (not in the specs). The entire project was: Gut master bath, extend shower, install additional shower head, install 2 vanities, install new tile, incl tile accent wall, install new toilet and washlet/bidet.
Gut kitchen, remove existing flooring to reinforce floor due to 73"x81" new island, remove all stair banisters and rails, remove all lighting, add 9 new recess light, add new flooring to dining room, refinish all floors and stair rails, reconfigure appliance placement, add sink/disposal to island, install new cabinets, counters, and appliances, install new tile flooring in laundry room. Replace powder room vanity, toilet, lighting.
With any remodel, there will be hiccups and delays, but Icon were responsive, professional, and very clean. Would I recommend them, yes!
My experience with Icon was working with them at the retirement community where I was the Operations Manager. We brought Icon in because the contractor we had been using started to let their quality deteriorate and they were not living up to our expectations. Initially we met Charlie, helped us from initial steps like drawing our dream custom and very specific requirements carefully and given the estimation of the house as we requested. After that Mark has taken requirements for each and every items to complete the house. The interior designer Kristien really help us, understand very minor details for cabinets, really enjoyed working with her.
Finally John Cygnar has started with high speed and completed more efficiently with in a time frame, he understood our requirement very well and made it possible for some impossibles. I would definitely recommend Icon Building Group. My experience with Sean Burke was excellent and I was very impressed with how knowledgeable he was in all aspects of our unique project. I had a contract to purchase some lake property. There was an existing structure on the lot which we were going to tear down to build our home. Due to the lot being on the Lake Michigan, there were added complexities and issues we needed to contend with. Sean worked with the WDNR and the Village to determine the lot restrictions, setback issues in addition to the erosion protection requirements to build a new house. These were unusual issues most people don t need to contend with. Needless to say, Sean uncovered some very costly items that we would have needed to expend in order to build our dream lake house. As a result, we walked away from the purchase of the property. I am grateful Sean uncovered these costly issues. Not only was Sean responsive and knowledgeable, he was upfront about costs and was honest in his feedback about some of the ideas I had about had our project. I will definitely use Icon for our future projects.
Icon Builders completed a custom build for my family in June 2019. I cannot express my complete and thorough satisfaction. The contractors they have chosen to work with have workmanship second to none. The house they built is absolutely 100% perfect for us. After going through this process over the last year, I never thought I would say that the home they built (which again is amazing) is not the most important part of my experience, it's the relationship. The most impressive thing to me about this whole process is the amount that they care. Anyone who has an opportunity to work with Icon Builders would be doing themselves a disservice to not use them. Hindsight is 20/20 and 2 months after moving into our home I could not be happier with the home and our experience.

It was a pleasure to have Icon Builders handle the remodeling of our kitchen and first floor. We have been in this home for 33 years and had done very few updates and it was time for a makeover. Having no idea what we were doing, we started visiting home shows throughout the western suburbs. We met Sorin and Jenny at the Oak Brook show and they made us feel very comfortable from day 1. We had two design meetings and they were able to convert our dream first floor and kitchen into reality. The entire project came in on time and on budget. The final results exceeded our expectations. Every subcontractor was excellent and did exactly what they promised. They were very clean in a time when you expect dust and mess to be everywhere. After all the horror stories you hear regarding builders and contractors, I felt compelled to sing the praises if the Icon Team. Sorin is second to none in regards to customer service and followup. Icon has done a terrific job of renovating our lake house. The project was to completely gut and re-build a 40 year old house, which included re-purposing a useless garage into living space and building a new garage. Their process integrated an architect in the initial planning process, a designer who helped in selection of colors, materials and cabinets, and the construction manager, Mike Fess, who is Icon's renovation guy. Mike obtained all the necessary zoning and building permits, and he went the extra mile in helping us obtain a needed variance. He found all of the subcontractors, paid close attention to their work, and really sweated the details. Mike's communication with us was excellent. We were sometimes on the phone 2 or 3 times a day as detail decisions, problems and opportunities arose. A couple of major design changes that popped up in the middle of the project were handled flawlessly. The end result is exactly what we envisioned, a beautiful updated home in the country. The only small glitch was that the communication process on kitchen cabinets broke down and we initially wound up with some incorrect shelves. But Icon remedied that to our satisfaction. Overall we are very satisfied.

We honestly were a bit reluctant at first to use ICON since they were not a widely recognized. After a bit of research and a few initial sessions with Charlie, signed a deal.

Taking conceptual ideas to plans, picking out a variety of interior and exterior finishes, then watching the build process the staff was engaging and informative. At times the process for those new to custom home building can be a bit intimidating and stressful. As long as you keep open lines of communication established across the ICON team, and the future home owner supports the various build deadlines (selections), you will be satisfied. We felt very comfortable dealing with a variety of contractors and suppliers they have in place. Even after we made a few changes to our original plans, they met our delivery date.

We did a main floor renovation with Icon Building Group which included a full kitchen remodel. The whole experience from initial consultation to final completion of the project was a positive experience. The designers we worked with listened carefully to our needs and provided options so we were fully satisfied. They were open to our ideas about materials and items we wanted to include and also made suggestions to us to make sure everything was cohesive. The project manager was very hands on, checked in on the project on a daily basis, and was an excellent communicator. He was very accessible and responded quickly to our calls, texts, and emails. In addition, he kept the project on schedule and was a wonderful intermediary between us and the individual contractors. Just finished our addition to our small split level. While other companies said we could not add the space we wanted to the main floor, Icon found a way that looks and functions great. They led us through the process one step at a time to make our house of 35 years into the house that we need now. Jenny suggested we engage with an architect early on to see what the possibilities could be. Jenny and the architect (Neil from AKL) listened to what we were looking for and came up with a plan that to our pleasant surprise largely fulfilled our objectives. The architect researched the local codes and recommended we could extend our house to the side. That is something we didn't know was possible, and other remodelers we talked with didn't suggest. Being able to extend to the side make a big difference in meeting our objectives. Mike did a great job of managing the project. Whenever we had questions or concerns he addressed them to our satisfaction. There were some change orders that added some minor cost to the project. But they were warranted and couldn't have been known before construction. On the flip side there was also work that came in under budget, and there were credit change orders for those. So overall the project came almost exactly on the original budget. We are happy with the results. The construction is high quality and ICON delivered what they promised. Job well done.

My husband and I were apprehensive to update the kitchen in our historic home because we had heard the headaches and nightmares associated with unreliable contractors, deadlines never met, and poor workmanship. A friend recommended ICON Building Group, so we set up a meeting with Sorin to discuss the project , and our uncertainties were immediately put to rest. He personified professionalism, courtesy and knowledge. The team at ICON were experts! The timeline created for the project was met daily. My wife and I knew nothing about home construction and so it was critically important for us to find someone we completely trusted when we started out on our dream home project. Glad that we found Charlie/Icon Bldg Group early on in our process!! We had a terrific experience interacting with Charlie from day 1. What impressed me most about Charlie from the get-go was his lack of interest in trying to get us locked into a contract or other commitments. His paramount interest was to make sure we were comfortable with him, his team, and the overall process. That was our experience throughout the whole build process. As with any construction project, we absolutely had our share of frustrations, twists and turns etc -- but at no point did we doubt that Charlie had our best interests in mind -- and as such felt comfortable that we had made the right decision in working with him. I could likely write many more paragraphs about our experience but will summarize as follows: Out of the process, not only did we end up with a beautifully constructed home -- but also gained lifelong friends in Charlie/Icon!
We remodeled our Sun room with the help of Jenny Rice and Mike Fess. Their guidance and design suggestions were most helpful. Once the planning phase was complete, a timeline for completion was established. The work involved several different sub-contractors. Mike scheduled the tasks sequentially.The Subs were on time and each individual task was completed to plan. Mike and Jenny made several on site , inspection visits during the process. Upon final inspection we noticed a small problem that required remedial repair. This was immediately addressed and corrected to our complete satisfaction. I highly recommend this team
Thrilled with our beautiful, impeccable home remodel, thanks to the care and attention of Jenny, Sorin, and the whole Icon team. We appreciate the quality workmanship and design know-how, obsessive attention to detail, low stress and no drama. Icon exceeded expectations, quickly and efficiently remodeling our gourmet kitchen, mudroom, master bath and two other bathrooms. Facelift of 18-year-old home included repainting entire house, adding mouldings and refinishing floors, stairs and railings. Icon made the remodeling process as painless as possible, from design and choosing cabinets, tile and fixtures to demo and construction (including troubleshooting) and final cleanup. Plus, based on their home building experience, they were able to expertly guide us on where to focus our budget for our local housing market.

We built a custom home with ICON and our experience was excellent. From contract to closing was 10 months as promised. We did customize the plans to our needs and wants and the final product did not disappoint. The finishes surpassed what we had hoped for a custom home. The employees were responsive and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this builder if you are considering new construction.

He helped us with some choices and decision making as well. He kept us updated with the timeline and his hard work was evident as the project was done in 3 months and 8 days as opposed to the 4-6 months estimate. He is knowledgeable, hands-on, patient and kind and addressed our questions, issues and concerns any time of the day via text, email, phone calls and in-person:)

My wife and I recently moved into our custom home that Icon built with us. The effort and quality that the icon team provided started from day 1 when we met Charlie the owner to even after we moved in.
From a design standpoint they are truly custom company letting you design and change as much or a little as you want. Their team was also happy to provide their professional opinion during the design. Often providing solutions that worked well or cautioning us on things we may want to avoid. The selection process was transparent and easy to track our decisions with the mobile app they used. They have experts that focus on kitchens and electrical items to make sure you have the guidance you need.
As for construction Carson, our construction contact, was easy to work with and kept us informed as the project moved from an empty lot, to framing, to finial finishes. They provide plenty of opportunities to walk through the work in progress to make sure things are as expected. Carson was great with answering our questions and following up on time.
The home they have built for us is beautiful and just what we hoped for. You can see the quality of the work in the small details and trim work. We shopped around quite a bit before commiting and are very happy with our choice. We'd certainly recommend them to any friends looking to build their next home.
Icon is great, they are very flexible and the team including Charlie, will work with you to make sure you have everything you need when building a new home with them. Particularly our Project Manager, Chris Bond is on top of things all the time and helped us out at every step of the process. If you are planning on building a new home Icon is the way to go.
In Q4 2019, my wife and I decided that it was time for a new house and we really wanted the opportunity to build one that matches how we are as a family. We looked at numerous houses and talked to different builders. Icon stood out from the builders. We really liked the fact that we saw a lot of houses that they have built (both houses on the market and houses they ve built for other homeowners). The style of their builds and what we saw in the quality were on point to what we wanted.
Icon, Charlie and Sean, helped us find and acquire a lot to build on. Sean was thorough in making sure that it was a good spot to build our future home. We were confident we were starting on the right path with the due diligence he completed.
And then March 2020, the COVID pandemic hit. This is as we closed on our lot and was finalizing our contract to build our future home. With all the uncertainty of COVID, we were really nervous about the build. But happy to say, that Icon overcame and delivered our house by the first week of December. The build itself started in July (due to delays in permitting that the team helped us overcome) and was completed in 5 months! Another house that started the process of buying a lot, isn t looking like it will complete until spring of next year (4-5 months after us!).
We worked with Mark who helped us with all the selections. Mark kept us on track to meet the aggressive build schedules. Kristi helped design a really wonderful kitchen (or more appropriately, our family center). She was very knowledgeable and helped us balance function and looks. The kitchen is probably our favorite part of the house. John was our project manager, and he is the biggest reason the house was built on schedule. I think there wasn t a time when we drove by the house that there wasn t an army of people working. Biggest credit to John also for spotting an opportunity for us to build a lookout basement and build a really nice deck. This turned out really wonderfully.
Overall, we are happy with the home that Icon built for us. The build quality is really good. We had someone come in to install a closet system and they commented on how easy it was to work with such a well built space. We waited 30 days to write a review to see if the appeal of something new would wash away (and the distraction and pain of moving/unpacking), and happy to report that we are super happy how the home turned out.
Our advise to future builders (with Icon or with any other builder), there will be bumps along the way that you d need to overcome. Make sure to ask all your question and document them (we liked the fact that we were able to work majority of these through email with Icon). Start this from the very first conversation even if you are still just shopping. Make sure you ask to see the build and help spot issues early and often. And when you see issues, don t stress and find a way forward.

We just completed a kitchen renovation with Icon Building Group. We could not be happier with the process and the end result. A special shout out to Sorin Marinca, our Icon Project Manager. He was incredible to deal with, on top of the project at each step and offered valuable advice throughout the project. It was a very good experience.
Icon Building Group completely renovated our apartment in Naperville, including flooring, cabinets, removing walls, paint, etc. Throughout the entire remodel, the crew was always extremely tidy, and did a perfect job; there was no mess or dust left behind anywhere. After we moved into our apartment, we had Icon come back to open up one of the walls to add support for a 90lb mirror they were hanging, and again, they left no mess on the carpet or any surfaces. We worked with Joe Stelzer, and he did a great job communicating with us throughout the construction process, completing the apartment on time, and delivering everything we asked for perfectly. We are extremely happy with all the workers and with the final product. We trust Joe and Icon Building Group to complete any future jobs for us. We highly recommend Icon Building Group.
I ve used Tomasz many times on apartment buildings I manage for little things like dry wall repair to big bathroom remodeling jobs. Also had him replace a front entry way. Tomasz is always my first call when jobs get to big for just me to do.
Icon did a great job! Our project included an addition and a completely redesigned kitchen, laundry and pantry area. The facade of our house was also updated which resulted in beautiful curb appeal! The project came out exactly how we pictured it would be! Their attention to details were beyond expectations. They always showed up when they said they would- no waiting and wondering where and when someone would be there. Jenny, Mike and Sorin were a pleasure to work with!

ICON building group is truly a great company to work with for building a dream home or be it remodelling project for your home , very helpful staff who are always on yourside . We got our 5bed/5bath home in Long Grove, IL completely remodelled with Icon group which included new electrical through out the home,complete bathroom remodelling , painting ,carpets and hardwood flooring. What initially seemed like a daunting task turned out to be a well executed project with the help of their planning and implementation team managed by ICON . One thing we were very impressed with Icon was their customer centric nature, Charlie who is the CEO of the company lives the customer first philosophy and it's pretty evident across the employees in the company as well .
Mike was our project manager and Jenny helped design the remodelling along with helping through city permits, we absolutely loved working with Icon , Mike is very hands on and detailed oriented individual which helps resolve issues quickly and at inception most times, we couldn't have made a better decision than to choose ICON for our remodelling project for our house.

Jenny Rice and Mike Fess have been amazing to work with. We have a 2,900 sq ft ranch that needed a major overhaul and a specific budget we were targeting to ensure we weren't going to price ourselves out of the market. They met with us several times as we met with our architect to ensure we weren't getting outrageous with our design ideas. After 4-6 meetings over several months we had a design that we absolutely loved. Unfortunately after all the bids came back the pricing was close, but the comps in the area changed so much that it no longer made sense to move forward with plan. The reason why I love Jenny and Mike is that they both were very realistic with us, they didn't try to push us into making an investment that didn't make sense. We never felt pressured into anything. We felt that they had our best interest in mind. I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of remodeling.
Icon is top-notch. These guys are pros - they know the market place, and produce an end-product that exceeds their customer's high expectations. They are a pleasure to do business - it's no wonder that they continue to succeed while other's falter.

We truly enjoyed the experience and the time we spent with the ICON team. Your team's combination of expertise and experience allowed for an absolute seamless 6 months of building our home. The things my wife and I were most grateful for include: Chris Bond- anyone that is able to put up with me for 6 straight months deserves a metal of honor. His responsiveness to me/Anna, the manner in which he motivates the subcontractors, and patience he had with me throughout the process was admirable to say the least Mark Moreno- truly a gentlemen throughout the entire process, extremely thorough/knowledgable when making recommendations, and possesses a distinct skill set of moving decision making along (especially when my wife Anna could not decide on one single paint color for the whole house... BTW that was her only job) Joe Augello- an absolute bulldog with the subcontractors and suppliers, while maintaining the integrity and transparency of the process from an economic perspective... so glad he was on my side through the process Kristi Warrenfeltz- her experience with kitchen design and selections is, in my opinion, superior to the industry. Not only was she flawless on design, but kept a keen eye on budget throughout the process (which creates the receipt for success on this piece) Rachel Wallis- superbly organized as it relates to working with the title companies, villages, and counties. Hard to skip a beat as she was all over the bank and Long Grove. In my opinion, the glue that holds the most important pieces together (making the villages happy and getting money from the bank) Lastly, Sean Burke- assertive candor, expertise of that of 100 general contractors, and proactive leadership with the team, makes for a process that is easy to enjoy and easy to recommend to anyone who will listen
Needless to say, I can go on and on. I have had several great experiences with ICON over the years, but this one took the cake.
Recently, I called the Icon Building Group to request their help to secure a Permit for our previously finished basement, which was constructed w/o proper permits. Sorin, Icon's project lead, went above an beyond by arranging an inspection with our local Building Inspector, which resulted in the issuance of a Permit. We're very thankful to Sorin's efforts as it allowed us to save money and secure the Permit for our basement. Thanks so much for your help Sorin and Icon!
We love our new kitchen, floors, and staircase. Jenny Rice (sales), Sorin Marinca (project manager) and everyone on their team (Daniel, Bogdan, et al) did an amazing job. Their expertise, professionalism, and craftsmanship was top notch. Remodeling is a stressful time as we alter our schedules and way of life for a period of time but everyone on the team was respectful of our home and privacy (as much as they could). We would definitely recommend this team to our friends and family and all of you out there.

We built a custom new construction dream home with Icon Building Group (finished October 2018). Our experience was AMAZING! Due to our busy work schedules and being pregnant with our third child, the task of building a home was overwhelming. Chris was very responsive, made sure our questions were always answered and was devoted to executing everything to the highest level. We had a fabulous experience working with Icon to remodel our kitchen. The project turned out beautifully and was well done by her team who she s worked with for many years. After going through many remodels and additions for other projects through other contractors, there was always some issue with the job getting done on time and the workers not showing up daily to get the work done or financial issues trying to make ends meet due to short staff and not enough funds coming in to take care of the job. Definitely not the case in working with Jenny and Charlie the owners of Icon. Jenny is very friendly, very very knowledgeable and extremely communicative. Also, they must be a financially strong company-meaning they don t float checks and rob Peter to pay Paul for their next job. They also were 100% focused on making us happy with the job. We would and definitely WILL work with Icon again in the future. Best experience we have ever had with a contractor! Strongly recommend!
