Building a custom home isn t easy, especially if you haven't done it before.
Generally speaking, there are a few parties involved, the land owners, the builder, the bank, the village, the architect and so on. How would you work with all these people? Where do you start? We had no clue. After talking to a few other builders, we met Charlie and we were very sure we wanted to work with Icon. Since a home is a lasting investment, you'd definitely want to work with the best. Thus began our journey!
We had a few design meetings initially to understand our space and layout needs. The architect started drawing plans, we chipped in with a few suggestions too. Sean worked on finalizing those plans with us and submitting them to the Village for a permit. The village wasn t very cooperative and wanted a bunch of changes which would require design rework. We went through multiple iterations and each time the team helped us understand what changes were being made. We re sure it wasn t easy but Sean took it up with the village and got us the required approvals.
In the meantime we started our selections process with Mark, who is great at what he does. He patiently walked us through the available options and worked with different vendors to give us the best pricing available. He was very accommodating with our crazy schedules and always welcomed us with a smile. We had the pleasure of working with Kristi, the cabinet specialist who is a great designer. She knew our space and had cool ideas to fit our requirements. She gave us 3D drawings of how the kitchen and baths would look like. Those drawings were very helpful in visualizing the final outcome. And soon enough the digging started. Our project manager Chris jumped into the spotlight. He was our point of contact for the entire construction phase. Chris was very accessible and answered any questions we had on the process, sent us pictures of the progress when we were traveling abroad and setup appointments to visit the site for walkthroughs. Rachel helped us with permits, utilities and the village stuff right from the start. We are very grateful and would like to thank everyone else who worked on this home, though we never met them in person.
Within 4.5 months, we are standing next to this gorgeous kitchen island, going through our orientation. In a week all the necessary certificates were in place, we got our keys and took possession of our house. We love the fit and finish of the house and how everything blends in seamlessly. We moved into our house a few days later and are busy turning it into a home.
We are very happy we chose Icon and if we ever build a house again(which is quite unlikely at this time), we would definitely build with Icon again!
