Great place to relax. Polite staff. Lovely countryside. Good food. Golfcourse us fun to play. Highlight was Brian the guide on the gorge hike. What a great guy. Knowledgeable and funny.
Visited for a work conference in June. It's a gorgeous hotel in a beautiful setting. The staff are wonderful and incredibly friendly. We enjoyed the pools, the casual, outdoor seating at Woody's, and a good hike on Deerlick trail directly from the Omni property. We will go back!
Had a great time! People were very nice! Loved the lazy river, just needs a little maintenance work done some rooms are looking a little worn. Our room had a leaking faucet bathtub wouldn't drain right, little things that would get it a 5 star rating.
Just spent four days here. Visit was great as expected. Down a star because there was a bath tub ceiling fixture leak (drip, drip drip of cold water while showering) that we asked to be fixed twice. It never was and we were never notified of any update. Also Jefferson Room breakfast waiters could be more attentive. All in all we will return.
Amazing location with a rich past. The service is great and the pool is clean and modern. I would recommend.
Beautiful resort; great food and ambiance. Definitely felt "hidden" and was essentially a much more luxurious version of staying in a cabin in the mountains.
The service is what makes this place. A true southern resort
Simply beautiful. Houmoungous with lots of options. EXPENSIVE. The service has gone down hill, but the resort is lovely
From check in with Matt who answered all my questions over several days, to Allen my hiking guide who seemed to know everything about the Allegany mountains, to Dusty who retrieved my i.d. and credit card that were lost, and finally my room attendant Carina who left many surprises, the management and doorman, banquet team, restaurants, were all amazing. The building and grounds were beautiful. I had an amazing stay for my week long conference.
Didn't stay here and won't stay here because of the lack of transparency in the pricing - come on Google - don't help these resorts by advertising their 'low ball' prices - Google advertised rate of $182 - did NOT include nearly $40 per night resort fee. Google needs to require up front pricing - until then this OMNI is off my list!
Our family enjoyed the Homestead for our Thanksgiving holiday! The serene countryside coupled with all the awesome activities made for a fabulous family experience. The Thanksgiving Buffett did not disappoint - delicious!
2 different stays this month after a long day,
both Check In processes were unacceptably/insultingly, long due to poor staffing coverage.
Atmosphere was nice but Check In, soured the experience.
A gem of a hotel... The place oozes history ... The Cascades golf course is one of the most beautiful I have ever played... The Homestead is an American icon!!!!
Really awesome spot, beautiful building nestled in the Allegheny mountain, perfect for a family retreat! One of the most relaxing experiences of my life! Book and enjoy!
This is an absolutely beautiful place to stay in the mountains. We always come up in October for our family reunion and love to stay at the Homestead. Personally, October is the best month to come because all the leaves are changing and it is breathtaking. My husband and I always feel like family when we come in and are treated like VIPs by every single person. My husband loved playing on the gorgeous golf course (no matter how bad he did). The spa is incredible and so relaxing. The rooms are very nice and spacious and each one is different than the next. There are a lot of activities and something for everyone's interests. The Homestead should definitely be on your bucket list to stay at least for a weekend. Can't wait to be back next year!
it is just what I expected
the food was delicious , staff very well organized , no Chaos, the hotel is beautiful, everything went perfectly
Property is nice, but in need of some serious maintenance. The staff is friendly, and helpful, but only when it s easy for them. The food is mediocre, and there is ZERO option for any hot food past 11pm.
Only spent one night, but the room and staff were wonderful.
Its like staying at your favorite grandma's house. Such a comfy old hotel. Big, old and truly American
The Homestead was lovely before Omni closed off two of Virginia's beautiful waterfalls behind their property, only to viewed by guests. Shame on you, Omni.
Beautiful location. However, they "nickle & dime" you to death in everything.
Food and service was phenomenal. The spa was nice as well. Omni purchased within the last 5 years. Supposedly they are ready to put some money into this Resort. The grounds are beautiful but the hotel is showing some age and definitely needs those funds invested. The draperies in our room were stained and falling down. The chairs had a rip in them and show age. Bed was very comfortable. I expected more from something that had the Omni name on it. They did discount my price for these shortcomings and I did appreciate that.
This was our first visit to the Homestead in 24 years, and with a rare exception or two, it did not disappoint. It is a lovely historic facility. While the room rate was satisfactory, we were very surprised at the very high cost of food - $140 to feed a family of four for the breakfast buffet in the main dining room. So, there's that. But the service, the staff and the abundant activities, from nature hikes to mountain biking were absolutely terrific. Not as easy resort to get to (we drove from Philly) but worth the visit.
A lot of recent reviews have stated that this place isn't as well run since the new management, Omni, took over. I have to agree. My first visit here was several years ago and I loved it and couldn't wait to come back. First, the people at the front desk don't seem as knowledgeable about the property or surrounding area. Had an odd mix up when extending our stay (this included a long and awkward conversation on the phone) and had to downgrade our room. Didn't see any price change on our bill. Also asked for a quiet room. They placed us right above the Great Hall where all of the guests mingle and the piano plays until 10.
The room was small but fine. The bathroom was gorgeous and spacious. Closet had a lot of space as well. Some rooms on the 12th floor have a great view of the roof of the restaurant, fyi. Wi-Fi, sadly, was out until the last half day we were there. And we stayed for three nights. That was disappointing. Also know that if there's a thunderstorm, a lot of the TVs in the complex will not work.
The grounds were spectacular to be honest. Has an "old money" vibe but I wasn't expecting anything different. There are several pools (one of which was closed during our stay), a mini-golf course, a extensive spa, a huge gym, lots of outside areas, multiple ballrooms, two great golf courses, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Essentially, there are a lot of things to do.
As for the golf, the Old Course is located just off the property. The driving range is beautiful, there is a small putting green, and a larger short game area with a bunker. The course is originally a Donald Ross design, so expect it to be a little short with lots of elevation changes and severely sloped greens. I think it's a great track that will test players of all abilities. There is a lot of history here and I suggest talking to one of the pros or golf staff members. The Cascades course, in my opinion, has the best back nine in Virginia. The way it meanders through the lower part of the property with various water features is absolutely beautiful. The front nine is good but there are too many holes along the highway. Tougher than the main course but stunning. This course, however, is three miles down the road and its driving range is small and is another shuttle ride away.
I feel like there could be a lot to love about this place and there was when I visited several years ago. But now I feel like they try and take money wherever they can. I don't mind a resort fee, but there is a parking fee on top of this. The staff members are a lot less welcoming and can be borderline rude at times. The food options on property (except for the market) are fine but overpriced. They do nothing to promote what's in town and the surrounding areas and there are a lot of fantastic options within a 10 minute drive. There also isn't a shuttle into town anymore. It's a short walk but it still makes it less accessible to everyone. I also hear the deals on various travel sites are the way to go. Most have all these added fees included so you won't have as much of a sticker shock afterwards. Some also have room upgrades and breakfast included. I enjoyed my stay here, but it's in direct competition to the Greenbrier and I would choose that place over the Homestead any day of the week.
The Homestead is an amazing place. The staff and dinning experience is definitely 5 star. They need to invest in the accommodations and grounds as the place looks and feels like it is old, getting dingy and needs repair.
We had a fabulous time celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary at The Omni Homestead. We were first-time visitors, but hopefully this would not be our last. The accommodations, including common areas, our private room, food, activities, atmosphere, etc. were delightful. The Omni Homestead is relic, which creates its special charm. We enjoyed traveling back in time.
Love the history and beauty of the place. Helpfully friendly and efficient staff. Fun for a special occasion or family vacation.
Friendly courteous staff and great food except for the lunch salad in Jefferson room (boring - little variety - greens not torn).
It is obvious that this place was something special in its hay day. It has not been well maintained. The carpets are dirty and ripped, the paint is chipping....the prices are still in line with a luxury resort.
Lunch at Jefferson's was wonderful! It's not only beautiful, the food was great, the people are friendly, and the beer selection was excellent!
Whatever you do, don't miss high tea at 3 pm. Hot tea, iced tea and cake. Yum yum! Great shuttle service. And Falconry. Need I say more?
It's a beautiful property steeped in history. Sadly they nickel and dime you for everything that makes it special. The springs cost money, the hot tub costs money, stuff that you would think would come free. Surprisingly there is also an abundance of kids running around screaming and waking you up early in the morning, far from romantic. It's hard to judge because it really is beautiful and a nice place, but they need to offer more included, and find a way to keep the kids out of your hair so you can relax.
Nice place. However the furniture is dated and needs to be replaced. Staff, food good. Golf courses very nice. Golf staff, outstanding. If you need a caddy ask for Brandon. Been there for years. Knows the course like the back of his hand. He gave a person I was playing with a disctance 144 yards. The person used a range finder and got 145. Not bad. Great personality as well. You will not be sorry.
Such a treat every time I visit. Even if only stay a night, I leave relaxed. Also, has to be the best breakfast in the Commonwealth.
The homestead is a awesome place for a get away plenty of things to do
The staff is friendly, and the activities are a lot of fun. You never run out of things to do here.
Beautiful Hotel with a lot of history. It's set in the mountains and offers beautiful views and different activities. Other than the activities offered, there really isn't much to do near the Hotel, so if you're looking for seclusion you'll find it there! The hotel is a bit dated but I guess that's also part of the charm :)
Exceptional quality and service from beginning to end. World class resort and amenities.
If you are looking for a classic, old-fashioned experience in a beautiful setting we highly recommend the Homstead. We never stayed in this hotel before and had the pleasure of staying because of a nearby wedding. The service was beyond exceptional as were the amenities.
We are so happy that Omni is taking on the old, classic hotels and resorts like the Homestead. It is truly a national treasure that needs to be saved for generations to come. However, it requires serious and expensive up keep. Omni is doing well and has made the resort a wonderful family vacation spot, but the hotel is still showing signs of it's age, such as inadequate AC in the rooms, certainly our room had a very old (1970's???) AC unit that could not cool the room. And the carpeting throughout the hotel was in much need of replacing. But, the activities were 5 star as were the restaurants. And the staff was world class!
Beware Although this is a beautiful place my visit is less than pleasant . Wifi worked but not in the room, swimming pool was not open, spa pool is $75pp, my pillow case had a blood stain, the first room assigned had a cigar smell, an elevator broke. Fees and taxes nearly doubled the room rate. Maybe stop in for lunch but have low expectations if you stay
Pure elegance! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The amenities just went on and on. I intend to revisit the resort with my family very soon.
Beautiful resort , in hot springs on business and we stayed there during a heavy snow event and the scenery was absolutely amazing our room was nice and cozy but not intended to share with a coworker. No fridge in room but housekeeping bought one up with no problem. We went to a local grocery store in town and got a few things to tide us over for a few days. We toured most of the property and took pics of this amazing place. I really enjoyed our short stay there, would love to come back in the spring or early summer to enjoy the scenery. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. There's a small coffee shop down in the lobby that was very nice and I enjoyed the large fire places in the main lobby.
Lovely setting in the Allegheny Mountains. Comfortable bedroom.
Service and food were incredible at times, but inconsistent. We have stayed at places with better service and food for the cost. In general overpriced.
Beautiful grounds and incredible decor and. Incredible stay plus awesome surroundings and scenery
The old hotel is getting shabbier each year. The restaurants are shrinking the options at each meal making it unpleasant to stay for more than 2 days.
This is an older resort owned by the Omni. Needs quite a bit of TLC. I only give this place 4 stars for the Spa, pool, and the activities.
Beautiful, historic hotel! Awesome restaurants and gardens. State of the art golf courses!
Incredible location and views! The hotel amenities, food quality, and customer service were all amazing. We definitely look forward to going back!
I love the overall atmosphere of this place. I think for the price I paid I would like to see a few upgrades 1. comfort of beds was a bit to be desire 2. Shower had low pressure and water temp was a mess. Casino and Jefferson's are a must place to eat. The pol side servers are worth every penny, the food was delicious and the drinks are spectacular. Love the slides and lazy river. My wife had a spa treatment and massage her statement was "the best I have ever had" Thanks for an overall great time.
I purchased a gift certificate for a weekend at the Homestead at a charity auction thinking it would be a fun retreat for the family whenever we needed to get away.
When I called the resort to make the reservation (mind you, I'm an Omni Preferred Guest), and looked to redeem the certificate, I was told over the phone that there was no availability for the weekend I'd requested.
Since the weekend I requested was in the middle of February, with no holidays during or after it, I found the lack of availability suspicious. So I went online to see if I could book a room.
Amazingly, and not at all to my surprise, I found plenty of available rooms - so I decided to call back, armed with this information. Upon calling I spoke with a different representative, and instead of leading out with the fact that I had a certificate I wanted to redeem, I just said I wanted to make a reservation.
Well - what room did I want? So many were available that she was able to list multiple options off for me over the phone. Then came the moment of truth - I wanted to apply the certificate they gave to a charity auction, which I paid more than retail for to support what I believe is a worthy cause.
They put me on hold, and the lady came back and said, awkwardly, there was no availability. Obviously I clarified that there WAS in fact availability, they were just refusing to honor my certificate. She tacitly agreed this was the case.
This experience solidified a few things for me:
1.) I'll never book a room at this hotel again
2.) I'm certainly going share this experience with my network of friends and acquaintances
and
3.) I'm definitely contacting the organization that I bought the certificate from - they should probably know how The Homestead handled the situation.
I can't wait for my weekend at the Salamander Resort in Middleburg. Hopefully it'll be great, but at minimum they agreed to give me an available room that I'm paying for.
Everyone was very accommodating and polite. We did the skeet shooting with David. He was such a great host 5 stars just for him.
Beautiful place to enjoy the historic Virginia mountains. Water slides, golf, and spa services. Pool house looks retro. Pool is filled with mineral water but chlorinated. No public access to warm springs. Buildings are being renovated.
The service and food have been fantastic as have the major amenities such as the pool, furniture and shops. Unfortunately the building is showing its age and fraying a bit at the edges.
My husband surprised me with coming here as a getaway. We came without our toddler and infant this round, but I could see how much fun this would be with kids also. I can't believe that by the end of our stay we will have hiked, sean, enjoyed the lazy river (nice and warm!), spa/massage, done archery, arcade games (e.g. mini bowling & air hockey), danced to the live band in the Dining Room while all dressed up, enjoyed little afternoon wine tastings and snacks, played chess, shopped st the onsite stores, and I'm probably missing other things we will have done! The hospitality of the staff is top notch. This is definitely now a favorite vacation spot which I hope to return to in the future!
Always a wonderful break spending a couple of days at The Homestead. Staff is genuinely friendly and welcoming, the grounds and buildings are lovely, it s a great place to unwind and just relax. Looking forward to hopefully getting back in a few months.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are average, but keep in mind this is an older facility. Very limited options for entertainment if you don't play golf. Very limited options for meals outside the resort. Food at the resort is of good quality, but very, very, pricey for what you get.
Nice upscale resort, lots of activities.Jefferson restaurant very good. Avoid shooting range, very expensive not provided variety of shooting stations. Segways tour excellent. Rooms small and no refrigerator in room.
25 years ago I was here and it was amazing. Not amazing anymore. Only 1 of the restaurants was open, we were told due to low occupancy . Was here in off season last time and everything was open. Hotel is falling apart, literally. Could not open windows in room(1482), I tried and it almost fell out on me, AC froze up and repairman didn t fix it. Spa indoor pool was closed, warm mineral baths in spa no longer offered due to inability to keep water in the tubs hot (or so I was told). I asked for a mineral mud treatment instead, told me they no longer had that, even though it was the second item in the spa brochure. Why go to a hot spring if you can t get a hot spring treatment?
Omni has cheaped out the place, no morning coffee in the great hall anymore, afternoon tea is an assembly line, no complimentary water in the rooms, you cant even hike the gorge trail anymore, unless you pay $35 for a guided tour.
We tried to order room service and was told it would take 50 minutes! What about that low occupancy ? This hotel will fail unless they get rid of the GM and bring someone on board who understands the concept of a high level of service is required for a resort. This place has so much potential, but Omni needs to cough up money for more than just the proposed renovation next year. They need to give guests the experience that people like me once had, when the resort was under better management
A very romantic place to visit. Don't miss the horse back riding. The spa is also a must. Hiking with tour guide, archery and more. Activities deffenetly a 5. The place has a rustic charm. Jefferson restourant outside seating with fire flies in early summer is magical. 3 due to upkeeping but would still recommend a visit.
Beautiful location but everything else about this place is out-dated and overpriced.
A 5 star experience , golf, spa, dining are all top shelf experiences .
Hotel has historical charm mixed with luxury and comfort.
The Homestead is in severe need of restoration. We had to stuff plastic in the windows to slow down the cold air coming in. The bed was so worn it had cavities in it and the pillows were awful. For the price paid I expected I lot more in relation to the room and overall look of the resort. It s time to fix it up!
Tucked away in the rolling hills of Virginia, this place was worth the 3+ hour drive from DC. The grounds are very big, including some that require a shuttle. We attended a wedding at the Gun Club and all was beautiful.
A special place in a beautiful setting. Hope to keep coming back regularly
Very well done across the board! Good service, food, and accommodations.
Obviously this place is very nicely appointed and the grounds and activities are top notch. We did not have that wonderful a time though for a few reasons.
1. The bathrooms were rough. No water pressure and the water dramatically changed from one second to the next. For the amount of money we paid I thought a consistent water temperature would be nice.
2. the people in the room next to us were loud and smoked cigarettes. we called down and asked them to ask to them to stop and they did nothing. All night my pregnant wife and I laid there smelling cigarettes. When we did open a window we got a nice blast of 15 degree weather.
I water pressure you can live with, but the yelling and loud music at 1am is just unacceptable. For that reason we won't be going back to the Homestead.
We loved the Omni Homestead ! It was such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The quality of food at the Jefferson Grill was exceptional and the service at all of the restaurants was excellent. Even the sandwiches and pastries at Martha's were delicious ...so much better than at any resort coffee shop. The grounds were beautiful and when you tired from the long walks there was always a shuttle to take you back to rock on the beautiful porch. The Spa provided one of the best massage experiences I have ever had and the Serenity Garden was a calming and relaxing treat. The "lazy river ride" was the best of any I have seen at a resort because the landscaping was a beautiful site as you floated around. This is truly a gem and is on my list of some of the best resorts in the countty!!
Great staff. Aging building. Lost my room reservation but compensated well with upgrade. Upgraded room had no hot water and very little water pressure, however. Just unpleasant conditions.
Spectacular...the historic Homestead has undergone a graceful series of upgrades, retained long term employees who delight the guests and remains a world-class resort.
Great history, amazing views, great pool, tons and tons of stuff to do for all ages. The only thing I have to complain about is the lack of different places to eat close by (in town and hotel-wise) for long visits
Beautiful property with excellent customer service and lots of family fun amenities!
