This is a beautiful location and the hotel is grand and opulent, however their staff is out of character for what one would expect at such an expensive resort. I expect service quality to increase with costs but the service here was on par with a roadside motel.

Checkin-
My room was booked and paid for by an Omni Select Rewards member but the front desk would not allow my room to be put on the rewards card.
I asked for a map or guide but was told they didn t have anything. My coworkers were given very detailed guides which included info not available on brochures which were at various activity desks throughout the hotel. The brochures handed out by the front desk had weekly events that were not in the standard brochures. I was not informed of all the hotel amenities because they chose not to inform me.

Room-
My room was spacious and comfy and the view from the Garden Wing was beautiful. The beds were comfy and linens appeared clean. The carpet and wallpaper were very old and snagged/peeling in places. The furnace ran well but very loud.
The bathroom was filthy. Stains and mold were on the shower liner and shower curtain and on the floor tile. Only one bar of soap was provided to use for both the sink area and the bath area. There was a strange, constant gurgling noise in the pipes of the sink even when not in use.

Dining-
Woodys was the only affordable dining option open which meant they were very busy and you cannot get in if reservations are not made in advance. Overall the food was wonderful though small portions are provided. The food did come fast which was unexpected but appreciated. I sat at the bar and the waiter was very welcoming and attentive. I did have to ask for another drink when I was out, I m used to being offered a second drink when my meal comes at other restaurants, but the waiter was quick to return with my drink and overall I would rate Woodys at 4 stars.
The next two nights I at at Jefferson Bar Lounge. Myself and one coworker were the only two people at the bar and yet the bar tender was unwelcoming and slow to greet us, slow to serve us, and had to be reminded multiple times that we asked for refills. He would acknowledge the request, then walk off and tinker with other things until we d ask again and he begrudgingly poured our refills. His attitude was that we were an annoyance. With only two people at the bar, it should have been easy to keep the drinks coming. Again as mentioned above, I m used to being offered a second drink when the first one is getting low. Most bars are quick to offer drinks because it s money on the table and a quick way to drive up the check and therefore drive up the tips. This place doesn t seem to notice or care even if you ask for another drink.
On a third night we returned to Jefferson and sat at a table in the bar area. My coworkers and I stood for a bit deciding whether to sit at a counter height table which was large and spacious or a chair height table which was small, about the size of a two person cafe table. We were only standing for about a minute discussing this when some manager looking guy came over and said Ladies this is not a hard decision what s the problem? I found his comments to be rude and sexist. When we explained that their small tables didn t have enough room for more than two plates they did bring over a second table so we could sit staggered. The waitress we had told us she only started a week ago and she really should have had someone shadowing because she was not far enough along to serve a party of six. Our meal orders were not complicated and we had either beers or soda. I finished my beer before my food came and was never given another drink. No offer for a water or anything. The waitress delivered our entrees and didn t return until we were finished, at which point she brought out the appetizers. Yes we got appetizers after entrees. My coworkers asked for refills on their sodas at that point and had to remind her two more times after that while she brought our checks.
Jefferson was overpriced with horrible service.

I expect much more from a room that is $180 a night. Check in flubbed the room key, room is in the basement, bathroom tub doesn't drain and needs to be snaked, and the heating/AC unit doesn't work and emits a smell.

I noticed you put that Omni strived to provide excellent hospitality, I was curious as to when this would be provided during our Saturday to Weds stay? Not only was nothing communicated, it seemed as though it was a burden to talk and inform us. Asking about local towns and shops seemed to be a bother, and instead only provided us with Homestead activities that were not included in our visit's total cost and instead were additional fees. It was like pulling teeth trying to get a front desk staff member to advise us what activities were ACTUALLY included in our $39 a day service fee. On Tuesday, I decided to try out breakfast and as I walked in I asked "How does this work, do I help myself?", at which time the gentleman gestured me in, and advised I could sit anywhere in the dining room. As I sat down with my single omelette and orange juice, I was then asked to relocate to a different table, which required me to pick up not only my plate, but all of the table's breakfast condiments on my own as well, without assistance from the waiter. The waiter then returned and advised it was because they were "shampooing that part of the dining room", apparently at the same time they were serving guests breakfast. I was then charged $36.01 for my omelette and orange juice without prior info that this was not complementary. The entire hotel is a sham and does anything but provide excellent service. Also, on Tuesday I had decided to try to stay in and eat using room service, as there were few dining options outside of the hotel. I ordered the wrap to which when delivered tasted sour and stale. It was then that I asked for a grilled chicken salad. When it arrived, the chicken was cold, rubbery, and clearly undercooked. When I took it to show the front desk staff, the gentleman I was speaking to was attempting to resolve the issue, but then was rudely interrupted by front desk staff member Natasha who then stated " It is sou vee". Okay, Great. Well your menu should have then stated that it served its chicken in a "sou vee" manner to which it did not. It only stated grilled chicken. Every single day the cable went out. On Monday the entire electric went out, in the middle of trying to get ready to go the spa which had also cost us in an upwards of $300. When we attempted to advise the front desk staff of the power outage, they advised it was routine and scheduled maintenance, yet they never once communicated to us that we were going to be losing power to our hotel room. Communication is terrible. The service is terrible. I could not wait to leave.
In addition, they never mentioned the $39 a day resort fee at the time of booking our stay, and never advised us of what this resort fee included until after the miscommunication incident at breakfast, at which time I asked them to specifically articulate what activities are and are not included in my fee.
Upon our arrival to the town of Luray, we decided to skip the Mimslyn Hotel and instead go to the Quality Inn because Homestead ruined our experience. At the Quality Inn we have better service, the cable and internet has not gone out and they have been extremely helpful in telling us local spots. The Omni Homestead is an absolute joke and you can spend your money elsewhere for better service and communication skills. Never again.

The Homestead remains one of the loveliest of hotels in America. Nestled in the mountains, the view from every window soothes and amazes. The rooms are classic -- beautifully appointed, well maintained and large! They are rivaled only by the personal nature of the service. Each staff member is pleasant, helpful and prompt. I don't remember the last time we had such service, especially because this staff goes to great length to be welcoming. We were at The Homestead for a wedding, and in spite of torrential rains, everything was perfect, thanks to the staff and management. They nimbly moved a garden wedding into a beautiful room with large french doors overlooking a garden, giving the impression that we were in a garden yet inside. Food was excellent. All in all -- The Homestead continues to be one of the Grande Dame hotels of America, and one you should visit. Excellent value for price, too!

Have to visit location. Hotel is amazing... classic, tons of extras. Great food. Great rooms. Nature/hiking, lots to do on or around the grounds during all four seasons.
Friendly for families, couples, indoor and outdoor types. Something for everyone.

This place is great with amenities and staff is friendly and accommodating. The place is old and run down, that was disappointing. With all the money Omni has this is not acceptable. Luckily they are starting renovations in 2020 and the place will be cleaned up, hopefully the elevators will be cleaned and mopped by then , and the smell will be better, it smells like the 20's. Be back when it's new.

The Homestead used to be a very special place to go- the service, the food, the entire experience. I grew up in the 70s and 80s visiting often.
Now she is a sad ghost of what she used to be. Those of us who remember are heartbroken. Being a guest here is now such an average experience in the crumbing skeleton of past elegance. The physical plant is worn and tired. The service that was the hallmark of the Homestead is long gone. The food is overpriced and average. The Homestead used to be world famous for its gastronomic excellence.

I always have hope that she will be restored to her grandeur, but so far things are way off the mark.

Staff is pleasant, but property not well maintained or kept up.. rotting wood, leaks, flaking paint, broken tile, stained/damaged carpet, tattered everything else. Very expensive, mediocre food, and not kid friendly beyond lazy River and splash pad.

On a beautiful fall weekend, the first after weeks of humidity, we went for a drive. Even though the leaves have been slow to change color we thought how fun to drive to The Homestead. We were so lucky to arrive without a reservation and to get one of the last two rooms! Weddings and other events had hotel at 98.5% capacity. The Front Desk, Valet, everyone was so welcoming. We loved our stay and look forward to returning!

The Homestead is a gorgeous resort in a gorgeous setting year-round. The people - from every department - make you feel at home from arrival to departure. The exceptional trio, dance floor and staff, as well as the food in the Main Dining room are always a highlight for my wife and I. The lobby bar with its versatile and entertaining pianist make for a wonderful end-of-day treat. The spa is great to just spend hours on one's own or with a massage for a special treat. A bit of heaven-on-earth for us to keep coming back to. J&L

We stayed in the beautiful Landmark Suite! The pool service was swift and friendly. The Jefferson had the best shrimp and grits I've ever had and my husband raved about his porch chop. The wine choices here were excellent! Woody's was also very good and had a more relaxed menu. Our children enjoyed the arcade, playing chess and checkers and badminton on the lawn. We can't wait to come back with our friends and family next time!

Charming hotel nestled in the mountains with lots of southern charm. The buildings and grounds are gorgeous and the spa is the best I've ever been in. Absolutely gorgeous. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

I went here with my company, Honest Tea, for our annual company meeting and had a GREAT experience. I'm not sure how much this all cost since my company picked up the tab, but I do know rooms were much more inexpensive in February.

This place is almost four hours away from DC, but the drive is actually nice especially the last hour. The Homestead is HUGE and has it all from archery to ice skating to tubing. With several restaurants on the property, you're bound to find something you like.

Highly recommend this place!

We went for Christmas 2019 and love the history of this hotel. They sent up cookies for Santa and stockings for our son. It is very relaxing and the staff is very friendly. There are tons of things to do for families. Things move slower in Virginia so come wanting to relax

It was the nicest resort I have ever stayed at. The staff were all very kind, considerate and helpful no matter where you ran into them on the grounds. The breakfast buffet was the nicest buffet I have ever experienced! The resort was very family friendly and accommodating to families with young children.

Centrally located in the middle of no where, the Omni is a beautiful resort. This faculty is amazing and you can t believe how big it is. However, it is very over priced and everything in the hotel is as well. Our room was very outdated and much of the hotel and resort was in need of repair or remodeling. Chipped walls, torn carpet, broken tiles throughout the resort. There is no parking so be prepared to walk if you need your car or valet it every time. Hotel food extremely overpriced and not that great. Very nice and attentive staff, but not that impressed with my overall visit.

Beautiful, peaceful, and classy. We had an amazing time. We loved everyone that worked there! They were all super nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet is out of the world delicious. It is a great business retreat, couple's retreat or family vacation! Indoor and outdoor pools. Spa. Golf course. The hotel is a little confusing because it is so huge but it is worth the trip!

My recent stay at the homestead was an absolute delight. It was not my first visit and I hope it won't be my last. This is a respectable place that caters to a high class clientele and yet at the same time I turn no eyes from the staff when I strut through the main hall in my pajamas or workout pants. This is the pinnacle of professionalism and I appreciate it dearly. I stayed in the owners club villas and if you have the chance I highly recommend it. It offers the amenities of a resort trip with all the comfort of a family owned beach house. Every member of the homestead staff, from shuttle driver to concierge, was an absolute pleasure to interact with. I only wish that my night could have turned into a full weekend.

If you want to unwind, this is the place to go. The scenery is amazing, there's plenty to do, and every last detail in this hotel appears to be very well thought out and enjoyable. Amazing value for your money.

Large room, very friendly and helpful staff, but the building's age is very apparent. Plenty to do at the resort: golf, segway tours, ziplines, archery, pools, etc; there are also plenty of places to lounge around and enjoy some tea. Limited meal choices means that you will probably have to dine at the same location more than once, but the food is good.

Beautiful resort with a very welcoming and charming staff willing to cater to your every need. The scenery on and around the the resort is breathtaking! Many activities also on offer but it's also perfect for just relaxing.

Our Homestead trip was a wedding gift to my husband and I. The weekend that we had taken off of work to go for our honeymoon, we get a call an hour before departure saying the heat was not working so we would have to reschedule. Trying to reschedule was very difficult. We left several messages and no one got back to us. When they finally did, my husband and I took off from work to go. Our first experience when we got here was a $300 credit card charge. No explanation as to why this money was charged, given our trip was already payed for. Our room was 82 degrees the whole time. Our thermostat was broken, yet nothing was done about it. Being woken up every hour with the air conditioner making a loud popping noise and sweating throughout the night really put a damper in our trip. As we are checking out, there is still no explanation as to why $300 was charged to our account. We most likely will not be staying here again.

I came here for a work conference and was extremely impressed with everything. The accommodations were impressive. The staff were friendly and professional in every department. I noticed there was a flashlight in each night stand and it was a sign. The electricity went out and apparently happens in the area. They communicated well about the issue but be ready for a small inconvenience. However, everything else was incredible. The southern social hour, movie theater, indoor pool, Martha s market, the historical tour, were some of our favorite simple parts and most are included in the resort fee.

Great customer service and beautiful location and facilities. Somewhat nitpicky with add on charges, such as parking. Room service food was somewhat sub par for the price, but again excellent service. Hot springs were definitely unexpected but charming. Overall great experience, would definitely go again.

A beautiful resort, fantastic area and great history. Nice walks, with excellent views and plenty to do. The only thing that stops it getting 5 stars is the poor quality of the food. 2 star quality food in a 4 star hotel. Well below what I would have expected, with chewy vinegary eggs benefit among other bad tastes and the lunch and supper adult portions wouldn't feed my 5 year old.

We have been going to the Homestead Resort for years and this last visit was our favorite so far. The resort is so family friendly - we felt right at home with our 2 year old and 10 month old. The outdoor pools have something for everyone - a lovely sandbox, a children s pool, a lazy river, a regular pool, and water slides. We loved our meal at Rubino s at the Cascades the best. It was a nice getaway while the babysitter watched our girls. We look forward to our next visit.

Only cons were poor service at Jefferson s Lounge and minor maintenance issues in our room. It is a historic hotel, so there is a lot to maintain.

It is a very beautiful place. The rooms are a bit dated but the decor has a beautiful southern charm and is very authentic. BUT the service was slow when we were there and they do tend to nickel and dime you. If you go, make sure you get the "package" deals. And do go to the local restaurants. Some of them are really worth it (especially the ones associated with B&Bs)

A rather grand hotel. Unfortunately, it was completely overrun run with families with loud children over the holidays. The place was an absolute zoo. Rooms are nicely appointed in a tastefully classic Southern manner. The spa is very nice and worth a visit, though not nearly as upscale or plush as you might expect for the price tag. Dinner at Jefferson's Restaurant was superb. Breakfast in the main dining room was just so-so. Service is friendly and accommodating. Rates are sky high.

The Homestead is a historical resort that has been in service for many years. My first time was in 1964. And it has always been excellent at matching up guests with others that wanted to do the same things. Because of the history, Omni has a tough act to follow. Compared to any other resort this one is top notch. Compared to the old Homestead, may be not.

One area where Omni Resorts has definitely lost effectiveness is matching up guests that want to do participate in certain activities. If you want partners for tennis or pickleball, bring your own. The staff was no help and did not seem to be interested in promoting the use of the courts, etc. A bulletin board or on site web registration and a tennis organizer would have been very helpful.

While the staff did not seem to be well versed on activities in the area, the staff at Allegany Adventures is super. Marsha was a gem at finding hiking and fishing opportunities in the area.

The dining room maintains its historical excellence. If you like dancing and music the group that performed Friday and Saturday night were excellent.

I also liked David Hurt on the piano in the grand lobby.

Grounds were in excellent shape, and the minor problems we had in the room were rapidly corrected.

I definitely plan to come again.

Just returned from a week at the Omni Homestead during their July 4th celebration. Had an amazing and relaxing time. The falconry introduction was fabulous and my son is still talking about the canoe trip. The staff were all friendly and helpful with any request we had. Already talking about returning next summer.

One of the most beautiful places to stay any season around here (better than the Greenbrier), great staff and service with many options and activities to enjoy. In a small town with gorgeous scenery.

My husband, Truman DHaemers, previously submitted a survey response. I am now submitting my own responses.

The room was clean, but no AC when we arrived. The thermostat was on 3 and we thought this was the highest setting. We later learned that the setting should be on 1, not 3 (turns AC off). The coffee machine never worked. I was too frustrated to report. Would have been nice to have a mirror in the bedroom. When someone is getting ready in the bathroom, other person can get ready in the bedroom (makeup and hair).

Excellent service was provided in the restaurants. The food was quite tasty too. Relaxing dining experiences.

The personnel in the gift shops were helpful and friendly. An excellent selection of clothing and gifts.

I had a facial in the spa. Great experience. Certainly enjoyed spending time in the Serenity Garden too.

I was very disappointed in the afternoon tea. I was surprised that someone, behind the table, was giving each guest a plate with one pastry. I was shocked that guests couldn t make a selection from a tray of pastries. Sorry to say that the personnel, serving the tea, were not customer friendly. Not a pleasant experience. I expect tea time to be an extra special time. I do want to say that the piano players were excellent. The best part of afternoon tea.

There was a group of international students who were employed at the Homestead. These young people were so friendly and hard working. If I had a question, each person would always find the answer. We met young ladies from The Czech Republic and Poland. I would hope that they return next year. I was also impressed by Fenney who was working at the front desk when we checked in on the 27th. We met Don Holley when we were checking out. He was extremely helpful and friendly. One could tell that both of these employees cared about the guests. The van driver, who took us to the Seasonal restaurant on the 27th, was very friendly.

Beautiful resort in the mountains, especially so in the fall. Room was large and comfy, amenities enjoyed. We had one negative issue -- a bad mini-refrigerator that smelled terribly of spoiled milk. After an attempt from housekeeping to clean and deodorize the fridge and room (the rotten smell permeated the entire suite) an evening check from housekeeping to see if we needed anything proved most helpful and hospitable. Attendant immediately recognized a terrible odor still coming from the fridge and affecting the room. She apologized, removed it and sanitized the cabinet it had been in. She also radioed maintenance to bring a new fridge to us. Big improvement and we were so grateful.
