Luxurious but a little pricey. The historical value was amazing
A beautiful resort. We love tea time, the fireplaces, the food, and the service.
It's was a beautiful place to go we will come back a amazing experience.
Such a get place to get away from everything. Its near the Virginia, West Virginia boarder. Has everything here to do. Golf, shooting range, horseback riding, tennis, pool, ice skating. You can find something to do.
Although in a remote location the resort is amazing! The pools, lazy river and water slides kept the kids busy, the game room was a great option to eat while the kids play, and the casino restaurant had a fire for s'mores.
The service was amazing and you can't possibly run out of things to do!
Hotel interior and exterior appearance looking very tired, wait staff at breakfast, and negligence of bellman at check out resulting in a broken bottle of expensive wine.
I had a lovely stay. The hotel itself is in need of some updating, but I feel quite sure that since Omni has acquired the property, those spruce ups will take place soon. I would also like to mention a man by the name of Roderick Ottey; he is the Senior Sous Chef in the Dining Room. Roderick was so kind and and helpful when I spilled my breakfast plate all over me. He immediately got someone to clean up the mess I accidentally made and got me a new plate of food with everything I had on it before I dropped it. Thank you Roderick and the Dining Room staff!
Beautiful location! Friendly staff! Great place to visit!
This is a super grand place. The sprawling building complex is absolutely massive. Interior is very elegant. Grounds are gorgeously landscaped with lush plantings, there's an awesome fire pit (and they sell smores kits!) The Omni has a huge waterpark type area, spa, pools, etc. though they were seemingly beautiful, they were closed at the time of our visit. We ate at the Jefferson Lounge twice and were thrilled with our meals both times. Would recommend this spot if you're in the area, even if a bit pricey. Very nice. Also, on the 4th of July they did an amazing firework display when practically no one else was doing one, what a real treat! Thank you guys for an excellent time. We'll tell our friends (already have) and will return when we can.
Just the best old time resort! Perfect place to get away with the extended family or only the two of us. Friendly staff and great accommodations.
The Homestead is a gem but it is in desperate need of renovation to bring it back to its glory. From a distance, it all looks beautiful and lovely but you don't have to look far to see that this place is not aging gracefully right now. Our guest room was very clean, which is the most important thing for me, but it is sad to think about the direction this beautiful place is going.
Friendly staffs, beautiful surrounding, minor note is facilities are a little bit outdated
A very well run and maintained luxury resort. A great place for families with children of all ages.
Outstanding as always! Staff always goes above and beyond. Our daughter loved the pools and running around the grounds and we loved the food and memories.
The Homestead is a beautiful place at least I think it might be when it's not under construction.
We chose to spend our 1x/year vacation for 5 days at The HomeStead. Friends told us about all the great restaurants, spa, bowling alley etc etc. When we arrived, we found out that their was MAJOR renovation being done. 3 of the 4 restaurants were closed for renovation or for the season (Easter break). The "spa" was in a make-shift portion of the lower level. They just took sleeping rooms and put in massage tables and hung some sheets over the windows. The bowling alley was closed. We had to wade through construction workers and table saws to get to the pool. Heat in our room was nonexistent for a day (we used hair dryers and turned the shower on HOT to heat the room).
This was a major vacation for us. 2 airfares, rental car, etc etc. When we returned home, I sent a letter to the manager. We received a form letter back offering us a free room upgrade (if available) on our next stay.
Our displeasure is not that the Hotel was going through renovation - hey, venerable old treasures like The Homestead need to do that. My quibble with them, is that they did not tell us in advance that the Hotel would be under major reconstruction and most amenities would be unavailable. We spent thousands of dollars on this vacation, and the The Holiday Inn Express in Milwaukee would have been a nicer stay.
Rooms where clean. Staff where nice and the shuttle services where very convenient
DO NOT let your GPS send you on Highway 606 to get to the Omni Homestead Resort. It's a nightmare - ONE LANE with many blind curves, steep grade, poorly maintained road. The resort is lovely, the road is horrible. Take ANY other route to get there.
The hotel is lovely, in an old-fashioned, southern charm way, as are the rooms. The grounds, setting, and view are beautiful. The pool area is wonderful, with the lazy river and slides incorporated into a luxurious setting for kids and adults. The spa area has a spectacular indoor pool and beautiful spa garden for adults with a warm springs pool. All of the restaurants have great atmosphere - with some variety in style - and good food. Wide variety of activities, and our family really enjoyed the ones that we did - archery, horseback trail ride, gorge hike, and falconry. (Where else would you do falconry!?) I was unsure about the resort wear dress code, but found that it kept folks from wearing sweats and swimsuits all over the hotel, which was kind of nice. Staff were friendly and pleasant throughout the facility.
I had to take off a star rating though because everything was overpriced. If you assume that the room rate is including the beautiful facility and setting, that's acceptable. But the hotel tacks on an additional "resort fee" which includes such standards as wi-fi and in room coffee. They include shuttles to activities in this fee, which should be folded into the activities fees, most of which are overpriced anyway - like double what they should be. The food is good, but not as fantastic as the prices would lead you to believe. Again, about twice as much as they should be for much of the menus. There aren't good options for a quick, cheap lunch - especially needed if you have the big buffet breakfast and want to splurge for dinner. The packages aren't a good deal unless you are committed to getting the most expensive options for every thing for every day. For instance, they price out at $30 a person for activities, when the choice of activities ranges from $12-$50. Same differences with food.
We had a wonderful vacation in a beautiful resort, and I would recommend the Homestead for families. But I'd suggest to understand, accept, and plan for the pricing before you go. (Also make reservations for activities and dinner at least week before your trip.)
Checked in on July 7, 2020 for a three night stay. We ended up staying in room 1702 (Governors' Suite) after some confusion regarding our reservation. We drove all the way from Ohio since we have had good experiences in the past. When we checked in, we noticed that the room was very hot! Well, the room was constantly between 80 and 85 degrees for our stay. We left early (after two nights) due to the excessive heat. We called regarding this problem, but nothing was done. The maid said the hotel was having problems with their HVAC. Also, the hotel is getting very rundown (paint, elevators among other things). We will never go back!
Poor service. Took forever to get our food. Most of it was wrong. Hot salads. Sent back. $1 for tomato slice. $3 avocado to add to burger. WAY OVERPRICED!!!
Excellent service. Great location. The friendliest of staff. Wide and varied activity list. We chose this location for to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Bring your whole bank account. Opulent dining like you will seldom first day in American culture, especially surprised to find it in the middle of nowhere Virginia
Needs some updates for this price. Stained carpets everywhere and rooms are outdated.
We visited the Homestead for our 15th wedding anniversary. Our room was super nice with its own balcony (premier view). The staff was nice throughout. One front desk assistant gave us a s mores kit on the house which we really appreciated! We did the skeet shooting and archery and the staff that helped us were fantastic!! They were young local guys who knew what they were doing. We would have done more activities during our stay but the activity prices are way too high. There weren t many people doing the activities that we did so I m wondering if price was an issue for others like it was for us. Also, there is a bit of improvement needed throughout like some power washing and painting, but it was still very nice. We got the spa passes for 2 days. The spa pool and aqua thermal suites are beautiful! Fireworks Friday night we re great. Food is also very pricey so we went out to some local places for several meals.
Overall my stay was quite enjoyable. Staff was incredibly responsive and friendly. Hotel a little run down in some areas. Two fireplaces in the great hall were wuite enjoyable.
Historical resort in Blue ridge mountains. Wife and I enjoyed our anniversary, however surprised by how geared toward children.
This is a great get away location. Beautiful building from the early 1900's. Lots to do here but everything is a la carte
The perfect escape! Lovely, historical, entertaining, interesting, and incredible. The views are stunning. The activities are a blast. I felt pampered and cared about all weekend. I can't say enough good things about my time at the Homestead. I think it's an experience everyone should get!
Absolutely beautiful property in the heart of Virginia. The grounds are very picturesque, and the service is top notch. The pools and amenities are fantastic whether you have kids or not. They do needs to update the furniture in the rooms though, that is my only qualm with my entire experience here.
Amazing place to stay with a beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back!
Can only comment on the reservation policy since I ended up not staying at the resort. I booked a ski weekend trip for the family 5 months in advance. 2 weeks prior to the trip I was concerned about the lack of snow, warm forecast, and only 2 trails open but was assured they were making snow and conditions would be ok. A week out from my stay I saw zero trails open and the ski slope area closed on their website. With barely freezing temps in the forecast, I have no confidence in their ability to make enough snow to open by this coming weekend. Fine print on the reservation details indicates that I m out one of my two nights, as a penalty for cancelling, and apparently lift-tickets and equipment rental are entirely non-refundable, regardless of when you cancel. So of the $1000 tied up in reservations for the weekend, I m only going to get $300 back apparently. Will never book a winter weekend here again.
We love this place in summer and now we've experienced it in the winter. It's an old place and there's definitely some maintenance issues (wallpaper, carpets in places, SLOW elevators, paint peeling) but the quiet, the pools, the game room, and the staff make up for those issues usually. It's between a 3.5 to 4 star place.
We had a wonderful stay at the homestead for our family vacation!y husband, 1 year old daughter and myself stayed in a beautiful room and enjoyed all of the amenities! The pool was great and our daughter really enjoyed the little splash pool and sand box perfect for younger kids! My husband played the main golf course there and said it was great! Also, all the food was wonderful; we especially enjoyed Jefferson s and the breakfast buffet! And the afternoon tea with the piano in the grand lobby was a great every afternoon! I would definitely recommend this resort for couples and families alike!
Went there last week and was surprised at how cool and neat it was. The food was also great. Pools where nice but VA u have to love va back cut country. Its the best and timeless. Driving to omni makes u think this is real america good country living. Overall place is a blast. Was a last minite jump in the car road trip. They even brought chocolate chip cookies to r room for kids furst night there with milk:)
Very Nice and very commercial. There is an elite shopping avenue inside and several reasturants. Some unique finds.
All hail the amazing customer service at this hotel! From the moment I arrived until driving away because of an early departure that they did not charge me for, I was impressed and well cared for.
The beds were comfortable, the grounds were beautiful, and the atmosphere was relaxing.
I look forward to returning soon.
The location and building is beautiful and breathtaking. I wish there was more dinning options and also renovations to keep the place looking beautiful. Carpets and minor details needs attention all over the place. The rooms and amenities was not clean sometimes and you could see dust/dirt on surfaces and towels.
Also, Markell is an amazing and super helpful at front.
Nice place building getting run down over age wallpaper pelling off in room, outside wood decay is shown on windows and tooth molding..food good but price higher than should be..staff is extremely friendly and as long as you tip every thing is good...
Great get away with lots to do and great accommodations.
Location is a bit remote but beautiful! Our experience was great beginning with the welcoming gentleman at valet parking, to the warm welcome from Casey at check-in. We arrived during afternoon tea which was nice and we're greeted by tea, cake, jovial staff and roaring fires. Our room was a nice size, well appointed and comfortable. The following day we got a day pass to the spa but were disappointed that the outside pool and hottub weren't opening bc the temperature and wind chill were too low but there were enough amenities inside to keep us occupied and relaxed. All service we had was excellent so overall wonderful stay!
Service was on and off Im a basketball player so I went to go get a massage to loose up and that was excellent but some of the restaurants were good and some were bad some waiters were absolutely awesome and some didn t talk to us a lot but it s really old and has a lot of history to it
Has lost its former glory, bad management, lots of negative changes.
To celebrate my sister's birthday we had dinner in the Jefferson Room. (We drove to Hot Springs from Waynesboro for the afternoon.) Claudia, our server, was OUTSTANDING. She even joined me in singing Happy Birthday to my sister. The dinner was probably one of the best I have had in years. If you are a foodie you need to try this place!!!!
Nice hotel with beautiful grounds. The hotel staff was very friendly. I would improve the average overpriced hotel food. Also, the decor is dated and some ceiling have pealing paint.
Great escape. I forgot all my worries. A natural high.
Most amazing place! We go pretty much every year per request of my daughter!!! We went once and ever since then she asks to go every year. It is a resort that is truly made for both parents and children. It was completely relaxing for everyone. I did not come back from vacation needed a vacation lol. There is soooo much to do there it was amazing and restaurants were phenomenal. I went off property once but liked the one right there in the resort so much every other dinner night out was enjoyed right there. The lazy river has to be my daughter's favorite spot especially with that 300 ft slide. I think it bigger but either way she loves it . And while she went down the slide I got to grab myself a pina colada poolside with out too far from her that I would be worried. The staff in remarkably friendly and remembered us daily. Everyone is super helpful and they truly seems to enjoy their job. They rooms are clean and tidy. There's just not enough I can say about the resort. Love love love it!!! Oh and when we were worn out from a day in the sun but still wanted to have fun we either could go to the Olympic sized indoor pool or the arcade!!!! The arcade won our visits most of the time as we would meet with people we met there and duel at bowling!!!!! Absolutely phenomenal resort highly recommend this to everyone. We also sometimes coordinate vacations with other friends that are close to the area and we all stay there at the same time for extra fun!!!!
Great place to bring the family with many things to do.
A wonderful family summer vacation!
My mom took her three adult children, spouses, and eight grandchildren (age 18 down to 7) to The Homestead for a recent family reunion of 3 nights in July. It was absolutely spectacular --- we loved it all, the spacious rooms, fun activities, delicious food & drink, friendly staff, and amazing views. It was truly a perfect vacation for our family.
Here are a few thoughts on our stay:
- Each family had their own suite with pull-out sofa and/or room for a blow-up mattress. The kids slept great and we had a fridge to store sodas, beers, and snacks.
- We went for the unlimited activities package and boy did we take advantage of it: Canoe & Kayak trip (4.5 out of 5 stars --- a very pretty river), Nature Hike (5 out of 5 stars --- be sure to ask for Brian as your guide....he's the best!), Horseback Riding (4 out of 5 stars --- a short group ride through the forest), Archery (3.5 out of 5 stars ---- what you would expect), Paintball (5 out of 5 stars --- the stuff little boys dream of), and the Shooting Club (5 out of 5 stars ---- a really fun time for a family who doesn't own or shoot guns regularly).
- We spent a lot of time on and around the stunningly beautiful and landscaped property, including the Allegheny Springs pool, hot tub, lazy river, and water slide park. The kids loved it and adults were content kicking back and hanging on the poolside chairs. There are plenty of cornhole sets around the yard which make for fun little diversions.
- We also did the Meal Plan (breakfast and lunch) for two of our days: The Breakfast Buffet is out of this world. Seriously. Don't think we'll ever have a breakfast/brunch of a similar quality. Couldn't be better. We also had dinner at Casino's (pastas, pizzas, etc) and it was quite good; Sam's Snead Tavern (typical bar/pub food, including an excellent burger); and Jefferson's (high-end steakhouse). Overall, all the food was quite good.
Overall, we would highly recommend you consider a stay at the Homestead. We hope to be back for another visit sometime soon!
Stayed July 2016
We had a great time together with family and the staff was very helpful.
The Homestead was beautiful, however it seemed a bit outdated. Christmas decorations were still up at the end of February, the grounds were unkempt, and the downtime game room smelled like skunk. I was very sad to see the facility in such a state.
We had an incredible experience at this hotel. The customer service was wonderful, food was delicious, and the grounds and hotel are simply beautiful. There is so much to do here, and the rooms and hotel were immaculate. I highly recommend and will return in the future!!
I only had breakfast there, but it was very good. The service is outstanding! It's nice also to walk around and look at the facility.
Great place to get away. Only one weird thing about the place is they do not take cash for a way of payment on basically anything.
Amazing location. Beautiful. But.... Our room was ridiculously damp and they could do nothing about it for us.
Good food. Lovely grounds but the hotel carpet is dirty, faded, and worn out.
The Homestead deserves four stars in my opinion because of the beautiful decor (though there are some areas that show signs of heavy wear and tear), stunning views and unmatched historical importance. The rooms are adequate, but less than what you'd expect in a modern resort. The beds are very comfortable, but most are only full size. Queen size beds in the guest rooms would be nice. We stayed in a Deluxe Room and I believe full size is standard for these rooms.
The food service and dining options need some work. As a word of warning, be sure to book your dinner reservations at least week before you arrive. This seems crazy to me, but if you don't book early, you may end up with no dinner reservation or, if you are lucky, you might get one for 9pm. We were traveling with two children under the age of 6. Eating at 9pm is not an option for us. The first day we checked in at 3pm and called around asking to reservations at 4pm. Clearly a newcomer mistake, but the attitude we got at The Jefferson restaurant was simply rude and unhelpful. The staff at Sam Snead's was more sympathetic, but still said 9pm was their best option. We ended up buying the kids sandwiches at the nearby Subway, which was really disappointing. The Casino Restaurant managed to fit us in at 7:30pm, so at least we did get a table the first night, but by then the kids had already eaten Subway and they fell asleep during dinner. The food at The Casino was just okay.
The next day I called for a reservation when I woke up. The concierge said she would work on it, but 30 mins later she called back and said the best she could do was an 8:30 reservation at The Casino or 9pm at Sam Snead's. No thank you. Not acceptable options with two young children. We ended up ordering room service. It took an hour for it to arrive, but it was the best meal of the trip.
Be warned that they will charge you a 15% daily resort fee based on your room rate regardless of the amenities you use. Resort fees seem to be the norm now at higher end vacation resorts, but be sure to factor it in as part of the overall cost when you book.
Besides the frustrating dining experiences, we enjoyed our stay. Our kids liked the indoor pool, the popcorn and movies each night, the birthday cake offered every afternoon at 2:50 and the kids craft offered.
If you want to get away and relax, this is a nice place. Little bit of everything going on.
Great amenities for kids. The staff was not knowledgeable on several occasions. May be a management issue.
The property and staff are wonderful. Great place to spend a weekend or a week long vacation.
Wonderful resort to relax and enjoy. Historic place with character and beauty everywhere you look.
Excellent service, comfort, and plenty to do...who wouldn't love it?
The grounds are very beautiful but getting to the Homestead is a bit inaccessible. Wish it could be closer to an airport. Outdoor activities are plentiful. Stores have a variety of good items. The guest rooms in the old section could use a bit more renovation. Otherwise the staff are very friendly and helpful, always greeting with a smile. And the food was fabulous!
Employees were great. Food was great. Only downside if you're not aware beforehand is that everything is an extra cost, and usually a hefty cost. The stay price itself is fairly cheap, but they do somewhat nickel and dime you. That's just something to be prepared for. If you plan for that then everything is great.
Clean , 1st rate, left item behind, professional service and return of item
Recently attended a weekend conference. Excellent professional staff attention with always a friendly smile and willingness to go the extra mile. Very impressed when any of the staff members would offer a greeting to a guest without being spoken to first. The facilities are beautiful but showing signs of being a little worn. I understand a major renovation is scheduled for 2019-2020. Food and beverage are excellent as are the spa facilities. Guest rooms are immaculate and well appointed. A pleasurable stay as I can't wait to return and take advantage of warmer weather for out of door activities.
Celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at the Omni Homestead. From service to amenities to the food...it was a perfect weekend. This is a pic of the 16 oz Prime Rib, with bacon wilted greens & White Lightning Whiskey with Fresh Berries.
Exceptional staff, beautiful grounds and will definitely be going back!
Love this hotel. Great service, lots to do. Excellent food. Love the nightly ballroom dancing.
An amazing location for a getaway... We loved the first class spa, great hiking options and most especially skeet instruction with DON. Rooms are charming old school luxury and the property itself has an amazing and interesting history. We definitely recommend highly!
