DO NOT buy a bike from these guys!! I took my bike in for warranty work and as soon as they found out i bought the bike from someone else (another Giant Dealer) they would not do the warranty work, without charging me for labour. I told them that this was illegal, the manager did not want to know about it. I have since taken the bike back to Cycology on the Central Coast, who were more then happy to do the warranty work free of charge. I have since learned that Hadley's do this all the time, BE AWARE....

Absolutely appalled at the customer service we just receieved at Hadley's Cycles Broadmeadow. Phoned ahead to ask of they had Beto baby seats in stock and asked if we could sit our sons in one to try for size before we buy, and was advised yes they do and that wouldn't be a problem at all.
Packed our 2 babies into the car and drove to store, only to be met with a unknowledgeable staff member who seemed to have no clue about the seats and fumbled his way around the box looking for answers to our questions. He also advised that he would not open the box for us to try the seat on for size before we purchased!
He provided irrelevant excuses about the store being unorganised due to recent rennovations. If you are not ready to provide quality customer service and adequate stock levels, then DO NOT REOPEN until you are!
I never write reviews, but have walked away this morning utterly furious at the conflicting advice and shameful in store customer service we received.
We have purchased all of our bikes at Hadley's, but will never be shopping there again on principle.

I went to Hadley's looking for advice on a bike after not having riden one for many years. They were very helpful and the stand out was Ross. He took the time to set me up on a bike that suits me and my size. I also dealt with Jono who was helpful
The only area that they let themselves down from a 5 star rating was the delivery/pick up side. I had a different team member that just wasn't as interested and just appeared to want to get me out the door. Didn't give me much at all. I would still return and look out for particular staff.

I bought my Giant Trance-e here 12 months ago, in that time I've come in for servicing and repairs and always, the service has been impeccable. John, the mechanic has always looked after me and goes out of his way to get me back on the trail as soon as possible .

A quality bike purchased, checked over and adjusted by knowledgeable staff, in a timely manner.
Wasn't getting all the add ons the sales rep was suggesting, yet that's how businesses make the extra dollars I suppose?!?!

Huge range to choose from!!!
You won't find the same quality in the regular supermarkets like K-Mart or Big W, though it depends upon your budget and what you're willing to spend.

Overall, happy with the purchase and glad I shopped here.

So after I had bought my bike you get the free service which is fair enough and so when I took my bike there because I had put the bad frame and bike that I shouldn t had been recommended I had to take it get serviced because it had gone through a war. I take it in there and it s got a brake, lever, leaking fork seal, loose chain, and countless other things, this one guy gives me this docket thing and asks me to come back later. I ride home and haha you guessed it they didn t do anything and the free service still counted so I took it to get serviced, and walked out with the bike the exact same way I walked it in there.

(Other reviews have similar problems not the other one that this is happening to)

I am a regular cyclist and occasional racer and I bought my first racing bike from Hadleys a few years ago and have dealt with them quite a few times since. They are probably Newcastle's biggest bike store (in terms of turnover) and stock the full Giant range and have a pretty good selection of spare parts. Service can be slow when they're busy, but that's inevitable really. Parts and accessories are relatively expensive (typically double online prices), and they have to book you in even for the most minor workshop tasks (eg changing a freewheel) rather than doing a two minute job on the spot, which is probably the most annoying thing about them. But I've never had an issue with their workshop work, and most of the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Called about a crank arm replacement for my Giant. They asked me questions to narrow the part down( guy on phone going back and forth to ask the mechanic).
They tell me they know the part and have it in stock.
I said are you sure as I have a 2.5 hr round trip to come and get it.
Yes 2 in stock.
So I drive down and they say no we don't have that type
They tried to help by selling me a whole crank set at no discount for stuffing me around...
Not good enough.
No wonder internet sales are booming.

Helpful, friendly, professional, respectful and knowledgeable. No question too silly, no request a problem. These guys know how to deliver personal, quality service. Service takes time, and the guys are now much better at multitasking, acknowledging waiting clients while retaining focus on the current customer.

Great bikes , dear prices but thats what online is for . Haven't had a service there yet so I can't comment on that. I've been there probably 3 times and always been helpful yes if you pretend you want to buy. But thats how you do your homework before you find a good deal / cheaper price somewhere else. As deals are foreign here.

I have just ordered my 3rd bike from this store which resulted from me taking the test model home for 2 days and loving the bike. Great to be able to have access to such an extensive range of mtb test bikes to really help make your mind up which bike is right for you. And at no cost (just a fully refundable deposit required). Staff are always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Great bike shop to deal with.

The type of customer service you would expect to receive if you were a convicted rapist serving a life sentence.

I purchased a bike from them under a year ago and unfortunately the front quick release axel sheared and I had to take it back. No dramas, as the parts are covered under warranty. I brought the broken part in along with the receipt.

As soon as the floor manager found out that I was trying to claim a part under warranty they made my life as difficult as possible. He insisted that I travel back home to bring in my bike so it could be photographed, knowing that I lived and hour and half away. Furthermore he stated that once the new part arrived I would again have to bring my bike into the store to have the quick release axle fitted by his staff. I told him that this was impractical and not required; as all I was going to do was again take out the quick release axle to fit the bike into my car?!

The conversation continued along with the narrow minded managed informing me that he had '50 years experience in the business' and he knew better. Its such a shame that 'experience' doesn't go very far to compliment COMMON SENSE!

This in no way to treat people in life, let alone customers who have purchased a $5000 bike from you.
You can take your over priced, corner cutting bike shop and shove it.
Do everyone in Newcastle a favour and close your shop.

DO NOT buy a bike, or even consider getting your pride and joy serviced by these clowns.

Bought a 2016 glory from hadleys, the staff had very little idea about downhill bikes they even came out with a shock pump to set up the suspension (which is a spring system not air). The after sales was so bad after 8 months of owning the bike I sold it to buy a bike off a proper bike shop. First ride the front wheel was loose and the handlebars fliped beacuse they werent tightened.a few rides later the rear shock went which some how took 6 weeks to replace, the chain guide snapped off through chain slap and they wouldn't even take it to their Mrp rep because it had scratches on it. Than the sram guide brakes had a recall which took them 2 weeks to replace the levers and when they did the brakes were not working. I took them to sram themselves who told me that the wrong fluid was used and the air was not bled out of the brake lines. I only rode the bike 11 times, i have been racing mountian bikes for 13 years and have never been subjected to so much incompetents from a bike shop before DO NOT BUY FROM HADLEYS CYCLES go to a real bike shop.

Dropped my bike to hadleys Newcastle for its first complementary free service (place of purchase)

I brought up a few issues I had notice why riding the bike such as front wheel slightly buckled rear wheel bearing had movement and how it 5th gear was not engaging properly.

Staff was good on arrival I left it with them and told I d get a call when it s done,

1 hour later got a call to say it was all done.

When I pick up the bike in the afternoon I was simply given the bike with no explanation to what they had done, and nothing about the issues I had brought up.

When I got to my car I notice all the issues I had raised with them were still present and nothing had been done. It left me questioning what had actually been done.

I went back in and questioned staff about the issues and what had been done. I was then told to wait why they address the issues , 10 minutes later and told it was all done.

Got home and noticed the chain is still covered in mud and very dirty, and the issues where still present

In all it was a waste of time, a poor experience and will be taking my bike elsewhere in the future

I took my bike in for two new tires the service and attention i got from Dave made me feel like i was spending thousands of dollars on a new bike, they say that first impressions are the most important, they will be in this instance as i will definitely go back Hadley for my new bike next year.
Thanks for your amazing service Dave 5 stars is not enough!

I bought a bike today and I was served by a new staff. The regular staffs did not ask if she or us needed any help at all for the whole time we were there. Every time we asked question and young girl was passing messages to her colleagues and she passed it back to us, so we were like wth? We finally bought a bike with them yet we felt very uncomfortable about the unsupportive environment in that shop, and my wife was upset by the fact that we always had to ask for information but no one proactively served us except for the innocent inexperienced young girl.

When I wheeled in my broken bike, they went out of their way to fix my bike even though they said they don't do repairs on the weekend. They offered heaps of great advice and even fixed up some loose cables. Outstanding service and huge collection of bikes. I wish there were more shops like this in Sydney.

Great variaty of bikes and gear for cycling. Staff is always friendly if you want to spent some money. I can confirm that they don't allow you to try out any bike in the carpark. I bought a decent bike and gear for 1000$. I am using that bike every day on a bicycle path. A spoke broke after 4 Month and they repaired it. After that repair, the rear tire frequently lost pressure.
I brought it back after the second broken spoke. I wanted them to repair the spoke, make the first free service and take care about the pressure problem. They just cared about the spoke. For free though... Staff was not very helpfull. I ended up, pumping up my wheel in front of their store with my own pump, although the technician asked me about the low pressure.

I bought a new (padded) bike seat at the Hadley's bike store at Lambton today.
Nick was very helpful guiding my purchase , suggesting I sit on the various padded seats to test, fitted the seat on my bike for me, pumped up my almost flat tyres without me even asking and provided vital information. All for free, (paid for the bike seat), and with a friendly cheerful manner. I appreciate it and thanks so much, Nick.

Fantastic customer service with bike service and repairs as well as when we bought an e-bike. Sam was helpful and knowledgeable- thanks Sam! And to Bernard too, for your assistance. In fact, everyone we dealt with were professional and helpful. Thanks again.

My father and I have been local racers since the e...

My father and I have been local racers since the early 80s as members of Muswellbrook and Hunter Districts Cycling Clubs. Hadley Cycles, who my family and I have been loyal to and buying from since the early 80s, wouldn't allow me any test rides of their road or cross bikes when I went in with 2 grand in my pocket to buy a bike for bikepacking.

A couple of decades ago I used to train, race B-grade and was on friendly terms with the shop's owners Rob and Brett Hadley, as mutual members of Hunter Districts. However when I went in after 2 decades break from cycling due to ill health, I found the shop culture was one where you're treated with complacency, distrust and disrespect. I went there because of my loyalty to the shop owners, however I now wish I hadn't.

Brett was in there and was the same. The last bike I bought from them in early 2000s (TCR) I test rode. I never even asked, they offered that test ride. However the first day I went in Feb, 2018, the employee agreed to a test ride of a ToughRoad, although it was raining. Therefore we agreed I'd come back the next morning for the test ride.

I came back the next morning, when another employee I got acted surprised at being asked for a test ride, as if that's the first he'd heard of "that one". Raised eyebrows and everything. The employee then made sure of it by asking Brett Hadley in person, who didn't recognize me which is understandable as it's been a long time. As we went up to ask, the employee instead asked Brett into the back room obviously to discuss if I was worthy.

However Brett disallowed the test ride and never even bothered giving me an explanation, he simply refused the employee then just walked by me when he came out without acknowledgment as if I was a loser no worth a damn. And as the employee relayed Brett's refusal, he still didn't give any explanation either, even after inquiring. After trying to find out what the deal was, all I ended up with from the employee was "Well not anymore".

After a while the employee then grudgingly offered me to ride around their tiny carpark as long as I kept within eyesight as he stood out the front watching. He never offered to fit the seat height, and when I mentioned it was too high, he adjusted it way down but didn't fit me to the correct seat height. I went for a couple of circles like that with a seat ridiculously low, crouched up like a frog for 2 minutes at 5 kph.

I wanted to buy a bike from them that day, however I ended up with a Contend SL 1 Disc from somewhere else and won't be attempting to buy anymore bikes from Hadley's. It's not even the refusal of a test ride that concerned me, but the way I was treated surrounding that situation. May as well have been an insect. Not even offered a trainer to test ride on, they are just so apathetic and just want you to buy something without any effort or customer service on their part.

The day before when it was raining, I asked about ordering an AnyRoad as they didn't have any in the shop. I asked if I could sit on the bike before purchasing to make sure it was the right size and fit, to which he told me that if they ordered it, I was committed to the purchase no matter what. When I asked what if the size isn't quite right, he replied that the size would definitely be right, without a fitting. It doesn't look like much fitting goes on at Hadley Cycles these days, even for bikes in stock.

You have to initiate everything, they won't offer the normal things bike shops normally offer, they just want you to sign off on a bike without any care given on their part for it being the right bike for you. No interest in discussing the type of riding I planned on doing and what kind of different bike options they had available for it in their catalogue.

Extremely disappointed on my return to cycling. F...

Extremely disappointed on my return to cycling. Front light had to be returned as the mount was an elastic band which would have broken quickly having to remove it and charge it frequently, also able to buy elsewhere a lot cheaper than $129. They had no lights available with removable rechargeable batteries and a fixed mount on handlebars. I needed new SPD shoes and they did not stock even one pair of wide fitting shoes which I got easily in another store. The saddle replacement was cheap and nasty and nearly crippled me with far too much pressure on the prostate area. Touring cyclists can spend all day in the saddle unlike most of Hadley's cyclists who are head down and bum up for a quick race. Handlebar stem replacement made the bike truly uncomfortable to ride and I had to remove that and replace it with the original. I am so disgusted that I won't even bother to take the product back, not worth the effort. The one star I gave on the review was for the replacement brake pads, they were OK. I also overheard them refusing to allow a customer to try a bike in the car park they wanted to buy. Absolutely disgraceful as other shops do not have this restriction. In fact I recently went into a car dealership and took a Porsche Boxster for a drive and they did not say you can't test drive the vehicle. I did buy the vehicle and I am sure it is worth a lot more than any one of Hadley's bikes and they trusted me as a prospective customer.
However I have learned a valuable lesson on where not to shop next time.

I bought 2 tubes from Hadleys Belmont today, fitted one without issue. Fitted the second one and it split while pumping up. took it back and both staff gave me every reason they could think of why the tube CAN'T fail without user error with no intention of replacing it. Now I've been a engineer/fitter for 40 years and have changed enough tubes to have some idea what I'm doing. After reading all the negative comments and the unprofessional responses to them from the owner, I now understand why I was treated the way I was. I've bought several bikes from here over the past 30 years but I'll be spending the $1000 on a new bike that I planned to get from Hadleys elsewhere and won't be back. All for the sake of a $9 tube. Your loss.

Lots of variety of bikes, in various styles from children to casual riders to pro. However the biggest criticism is that they make it so difficult - can't believe that they wouldn't let me try out a $700 bicycle in the carpark without buying it! Absolutely ridiculous, I'm not buying a bike for that amount of money without a test ride! Furthermore, you cant possibly justify $70 for a basket for the front of the bike!? Bad form indeed, and would thus recommend a more local and friendlier dealer.

Selling bikes higher than advertised RRP by Australian supplier Giant. Claimed that it s $60 from Melbourne supplier in freight for each bike. However, this is selective price gouging with some bikes and raised just before Christmas by the manager for bikes. (This was later disclosed by the staff). The phone on hold music Makes claim to free old fashioned service for bike service. However, they used this to justify higher selling price in addition to freight. Last purchase was told they d look after us next purchase. This didn t happen. This is the last purchase. 4x kids from Belmont 1 x adult touring bike from Lambton. Support local business they say. Want to thank the guys, took my wife s tt bike in for a brake problem and a service 4pm Thursday and asked if it was possible to have back next day ready for a group ride Saturday morning.
Under the pump they delivered on time and I have just had a 5min ride to make sure everything was good and it would be as good as any service I have had on any of our bikes and the price was fantastic,
Thanks heaps Brett and your staff

Most of the guys were great, one of the mechanics told me that it would take 5 days for them to remove the crank from my bottom bracket (Saturday afternoon for a Wednesday pick up) . What a joke, he was happy to sell me a crank puller though. I removed in under 5 minutes.

Bought a giant defy 2 a while back, worst experience buying a bike ever. Wanted cleats, shoes, pants and a bottle holder with the bike and just got sighs each time i asked for each item. Not exactly the cheapest store out there either. Has a reputation amongst serious riders...

It's actually such a shame I could have spent $1500 here if they just let me test ride the bike I was looking at. Every other bike shop in the region loaned me the bike in their respective store that I liked, loaned me a helmet and told me where a nice place nearby would be to ride it.
I was then able to try the bike, learn if I enjoyed riding it and learn anything I needed to change if I were to purchase the bike.

Hadley was the first place I went to because it seems to be the oldest store in Newcastle, how it's open I'll never know though.

The first visit I had I spoke to a lovely guy and we went over our options and he gave me a nice list of costs and such and said I'd be back, my second visit I spoke to somebody else who said I was unable to test ride ANY bike they had on offer and I left after hearing that.

I won't be returning to Hadley and thankfully I purchased a great bike from a competitor and they offered a whole year of free services, whenever I like, no limit.

Tried to buy local but what a mistake

Tried to buy local but what a mistake

I order a Giant Toughroad SLR GX 0 from Hadley s.
I was told that it may take a week or so get it in, No worries
A few days later I get a call, Your bike has arrived Great , I make arrangements to collect it.
I arrive at the shop and had to wait for them to inflate 5 minutes me thinks
30 Minutes later Bike arrives, we finish the paperwork, and look at my new purchase with a flat tyre that s not right, back it goes to the Mechanic!
40 mins I m out of there.

So I get home and show the wife my new bike (which she s not happy I ve brought as have 7 other bikes) low and behold Flat tyre Your kidding me.

Anyway, being unable to ride for two weeks due to surgery, I check over the bike and find a raft of defective items with it, no worries gives me something to tinker with. Two weeks later, I finally get to ride it.

Gears not indexing correctly
Loose cassette
Front disc brake shuddering

Your kidding me

This was supposed to have been set up at the shop by their professional Mechcanic! My Arse

So I call the shop and get passed on to the Mechanic! and he has no idea why the brakes would be shuddering, but bring it in and we ll look at it for you as if it s a favor to me . No no that doesn t work for me how about I drop it into your Maitland shop? All good.
I called up their Maitland shop and was spoken to as if I was an annoying fly at a picnic. Well bring it in, but I m really busy!
I m done with this Lassitude service, time to go elsewhere.
Amazing how I have to pay someone else to sort out a brand new bike.

In frustration I call up and ask to speak to the manager, amazing he s busy, I leave my number for him to call me back, but no he goes home and leaves another staff member to call back.

Well shame on you Hadley Cycles, shame.

I hope anyone who takes their time to read this review will think hard before they consider purchasing from this company, for it was an extremely disappointing experience for me.

Don't go here for anything more than family amateur bikes. The stock they hold for anything enthusiast level and above is woeful. I needed a new road helmet a few months ago. Since it was a Sunday and not asany places were open I went to Hadley's. They had 1 road helmet in my size which didn't fit my head. I went to Drift bikes after and bought a specialised helmet that for perfectly for cheaper. There I had multiple choices and could pick the helmet I wanted. Another time I tried to buy a set of basic yellow Shimano road cleats. They didn't have any. They ended up convincing me to buy a set of blue cleats which didn't work properly for me. After that I vowed never to buy from Hadley's again.
