Had to attend a birthday function at the Chester, downstairs of Gansevoort. Granted, it was on Saturday night, Mayweather-McGregor fight night. The front was chaos and even if we had a reserved table, it took us well over 20 minutes to get More

Ripoff Central. Everything in the room you expect to be free (and doesn't have a price tag) is actually quite expensive. Very frustrated with this underhanded marketing tactics. Simply not what is expected at a luxury hotel. They are losing status by this penny pinching. The duck in the photos (v similar to the free gifts given at Conrad hotels and Four Seasons)... $10 if you are unfortunate enough to take the "gift" home. See all the photos of the tags - no prices on it anywhere. The drink stand by the bed? Huge visible price tags on the water bottles, the others have no prices. Free? Nope. The coffee pods in the Nespresso machine? $2 each. Ripoff. Oh yeah, and they put the chain on the door backwards. Idiots.

Like many of the reviews I agree the rooms are clean but cheesy. I can even agree that the rooftop has a beatiful view. But what shocked me is that I'm not the only one who has been assaulted in the elevator and management would not respond. The deal is that the GM Jean Francois won't even call to discuss the issue. They couldn't find us another room at another hotel and offered $100. Unlike the majority of their partygoing fans - we don't need the money, we need to feel safe. And believe me, you WILL NOT feel safe here since they let pretty much any fist pumping loser through the doors on the weekend. As has been pointed out ANYONE can get into this hotel bar but it seems as though Snooky wannabes have truly made this their home. The concierge desk is a joke. They'd have a hard time recommending anything they can't see from their desk. They couldn't get you reservations or tickets to anything as simple as McDonalds if their life depended on it. It has definitely nose dived over the past couple of years. Spend your money at the Standard or Soho Grand where you don't have to dodge trash and the staff truly care about your happiness while staying there. I was a fan, but won't be staying here again.

Very nice staff. Convenient location with quite a lot of restaurants nearby. Nice PH level including pool and bar with very nice views. Rooms well decorated although not ultra modern. Regular room with good size and wide and tall window overseeing the city. Comfortable bed. Complimentary water. Good experience.

Be careful with using your card for security. We had a total of 4 bookings across friends and family, 3 bookings the Gansevoort deducted the total booking amount even though we had already pre paid and discussed this at check in. Very bizarre. PLEASE NOTE, we had to hand over our credit card for a security deposit it had nothing to do with how or where our booking was made.

Otherwise it was a good stay, ask for a quieter room if possible can be very noisy friday + saturday and some rooms are tired.

Gorgeous hotel with beautiful views. From my room I could see the sunrise over the city which was beautiful. I love the pink accents in the room which makes it look very chic and just a delight to stay in. They provide a hair straightener, iron, robes, slippers, etc. Lots of places to eat nearby so it's in a great location.

This hotel does not have proper air conditioning in the rooms, which makes staying there absolutely unbearable in the summer. It is very hot AND humid because their version of "AC" is a fan with water. They sent a technician to "fix it" but there wasn't much he could do.

I also found a large cockroach in my bathroom (picture attached). I called the front desk and a staff member came up and took care of the roach. However, no apology or money back was offered. I was only given keys to another room.

PS. I decided to leave the Gansevoort right after the roach incident and to stay at the Standard for my remaining 3 nights in NYC. The Gansevoort front desk employee still charged me for the night that I stayed there, even though a refund would have been much more appropriate given the circumstances.

Great view and location. Rooms are tiny (which I expected when I booked) and run down - furniture is worn, broken window, misaligned fixtures, uncontrolled room temperature (sooo incredibly hot over night) and the hotel just seems tired. There is construction happening inside and outside of the hotel though so future visitors might have a nicer experience. The beds were terrible - main bed mattress was so thin and hard the floor might have been comparable in comfort. Although the pull out bed was worse - the metal bars on the edges hurt our legs getting in and out and the mattress was so thin you could feel the bars underneath. The sheets on the bed weren t appropriately sized for the smaller bed either so it just looked sloppy in the room.

Rooftop Swimming pool is heated and open Year round which I wish we knew before we came because the rooftop has an amazing city view.

NOT a family friendly hotel. Cool during the day for our 14 year old but very much a club after dark with loud music and a lot of people coming to the club. Bouncers everywhere, even in hotel elevators. Out of town tired travelers are definitely out of place at the hotel bar at night unless dressed in their shortest skirt, highest heals, and sport coats.

Everything is nickel and dimed - water, snacks, booze & drinks in the room. All plentiful and an up charge. Although the can of Heineken in the fridge ($10) was cheaper than the draft beer at the bar.

Overall: cool hotel and great location, but choose a different hotel if you have anyone under 21 or are over the club scene.

Hidden gem I would completely stay at. Fantastic interiors service and location. Price cannot be beat. Only downside I had was that the water was not warm enough. I think that this is an actual mechanical issue as opposed to it just being a busy time because I was unable to achieve hot water temperatures at a variety of times. Despite this drawback, I would still absolutely stay here again The rest of the hotel experience was that good.

Good location and nice views but ultimately this place is loud, dark, and standoff-ish . If you love the Kardashians, want a party in the elevator, and enjoy listening to club goers in the hallway, this is your place.

Perfect location in one of my favorite areas of the city. Rooftop is nice, but is more bouji. Room was fine but nothing great. Bed was ok. You can find better hotels for cheaper prices in other parts of the city. But you can't beat the location.

Very comfortable, the best beds I've experienced in the US, plus it has a rooftop swimming pool and a great location. Go for the west side upper rooms if you can. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Very nice upscale hotel. Penthouse rooftop restaurant and bar had nice atmosphere & good food. Best sangria I've ever had, even though it wasn't on menu, bartender made it happen. Check-in staff were very personable.

Great location to visit the Whitney museum or Chelsea, but it's overpriced for the quality of the accommodations. Beyond the price of the room, little extras you might expect in an expensive hotel all carry surcharges here. Even in-room coffee. There are better options in Chelsea with a little research ( my beginners mistake)
