It's Versailles, palace of French Kings. Splendor and excess of every variety. Allow time to wander the gardens.
It's Versailles, palace of French Kings. Splendor and excess of every variety. Allow time to wander the gardens.
It is hard to say something that have already not been said about one of the most famous buildings in the world. My own impression was that the facade was so huge and opulent that when one faces it one really feels the power of the French king. He managed to put his name well in history for a reason. Such a masterpiece was copied so many times, that it feels familiar if you have been to any other palace in Europe like Peterhof or Drottningholm. However, it remains one of the most iconic places on Earth.
Very grand palace will a lot of delicate and beautiful things. It s amazing to walk in the halls. Definitely worth spending a day here. To avoid the long queue it s better to go there either early before 10 or in the afternoon after 1. Otherwise you might stand in the queue for 2 hours. Also museum pass holders won t get any fast lane.
A truly magnificent place! I don't have enough time to discover all the areas but the palace itself is amazing! Beautifully designed, palace of Versailles is a must visit for your Paris trip! It has free audio guide (you should bring your own headphones though) and it's free for EU/EEA residents under 26!
I'm in Love with this palace since the first enterance and see the corridor. It s a very beautiful place and must visit in Paris. There are always many people visiting this palace. The palace is huge, takes time to explore. If you have EU resident permit and under 26 years old, you are free to visit this museum!
Bought ticket in advance online, still 2 hours queue to get in. Thought we'd just do the garden but had to pay extra because it was a 'musical day' even though the website stated those were only on weekends and not weekdays. The music part is just some speakers playing classical music in some parts of the garden. Not worth it.
We didn't know the garden tour is separate from the palace and forgot our Paris pass back at the hotel. But the musical gardens is a lot on it's own without being able to explore the palace. Definitely see the musical gardens if you can during the days they're turned on. It's really something. We took the tram and stopped by Marie Antoinette's estate as well but only explored the house since it was too hot to walk all the way back there since her estate is so grand. Would love to come back on my next trip and explore the rest!
Over crowding and really poor entry management. Kids having panic attacks due to the over crowding in the palace. Gardens really nice but spoiled by additional entry fees and again over crowding.
Beautiful estate with hundreds of rows but you are only able to see about 30 or so during the self guided tour. There needs to be more signage as to which number of the tour guide you need to press since its usually at the front and everyone is gathered around it. Marie Antoinette's room was my favorite room! Didn't get a chance to walk out to the garden due to it raining pretty hard.
Its a pretty stunning view. When you walk inside the gates you feel like you stepped back in time. There is so much art to see and many pictures to take. The sad thing about this is the story behind how the palace was built and with what money and how the owners lived.
Amazing gardens, but WAAYYYYYY too many people. You have to buy the 'timed entry ticket' if you don't want to waste an hour of your time queueing up at 9am. Way overcrowded. The gardens are amazing though, wear comfortable walking shoes!
Stunning. However i have to tell two stories happened to me during my trying to go there. The first when i used the GPS and wrote that my destination is Versailles, it guided me to a wrong place, 15 km far from chateau de versailles. The second thing was during my return when i decided to take the metro and discovered that versailles is officially outside Paris.
Mesmerising palace with a beautiful garden. Unfortunatly, Versailles is absolutely overcrowded. I recommend every visitor to arrange enough time to fully enjoy the beauty of this place.
Uou need time and be patient to see the whole palace but it rewards you! Speechless!
Beautiful place. The gardens were the draw for me. It was also neat to see the different bedrooms of past royalty etc. bring cash the terminals don't always work for tickets or pre purchase them online. Come early otherwise the crowds build. You only need a half day at most for this adventure so make plans for the second half of your day. Uber works great to get here and get back into the heart of Paris.
Impressive. Make sure to buy the Passport avec Reservation Horaire to skip the lines (a surprising amount of visitors do not)!
Great place to spend the day seeing the history of King Louis the 14 through 16. Take the behind the scenes apartment tour. Well worth the time and bypasses the crowd to provide and up close and personal look at the lives of those who lived there. The gardens are the best I've ever seen
So we saw all the reviews about this place and thought we had to visit it on a Musical Fountain day. Our minds and our son's mind were totally blown by this place. We took a quick tour of the palace then headed for the gardens. If you are willing to take your stroller on the most off road adventure of its life...then go ahead. The entire garden is covered in gravel and small stones. Have you ever pushed a stroller through beach sand?? That is what is feels like. There is a part leading down into more gardens. Its about 100 steps. The entire experience is going to be a work out so prepare yourself. It is totally worth it. Your kids are going to lose their minds. You are all going to come out covered in dust and dirt and you are going to have the time of your life. Once again...if you are ready for a physical workout...go Versailles with a stroller.
Stunning in many ways..on thel list of places to see before you die!
I enjoyed walking the grounds more than being inside the palace. The self-guided audio tour is good though. Don't skip walking through Marie Antoinette's estate area (included on the Passport ticket). Several restaurants on the property which are passable.
One of the most promising places. Please spare 4-5 hrs for the garden alone . The palace is though less interesting than the scenic beauty that the garden has to offer. There is a separate ticket for the garden. It cost around 11 Euro for the adult. Also the part of the garden as accessible to public and free. So if you just need to take a walk then you may even go to the other end of the garden for the same
Very historical and quite beautiful. Not my taste since there's so many foreigners holding up selfie sticks, it's almost impossible to move from room to room. They should limit the amount of people that get to go inside at the same time.
Beautiful palace n magnificent gardens n musical fountain shows. Visit between 3-5 for the shows
incredible place. gardens were truly amazing even in winter.
it was so packed when i went you could literallh barely move... it was so uncomfortable.. Im talking like fire hazard level of people inside a room.. there must have been like 150 in one room it was wild... it was beautiful so too full
Simply amazing experience everytime. Highly recommend booking a ticket with scheduled time or else find yourself waiting minimum 1.5hrs this time of year. Gardens are really nice and are seperate ticket now if you have a paris museum pass. Tickets to garden plus musical waterfall show cast 10 .
We did the fat tires bike tour.Highly recommended. The tour guide was very good.Friendly and knowledgable.
It was over an hour in line (no shade) to get into a room that was so packed with people you couldn't enjoy the architecture. The free garden wasn't free because of an event going on. We heard from others that if you get through being packed in like sardines the gardens on the tour are great. It was out last day in France so we cut out losses and went back into Paris to the museums.
Pretty amazing. Musical garden day is a ripoff-- no fountains and just PA speakers throughout
Beautiful building, but absolutely filled with tourists. The gardens are definitely worth seeing though.
This is a jaw dropping example of the excesses of the ruling class. Absolutely stunning palace that words can't do it justice. You would need a whole day to truly do the visit justice, especially the massive gardens.
A spectacular palace. Wonderful gardens. Well worth a visit.
It's Versailles. Do you really need a comment ? (Alot of people in summer. But that's all)
Really kool place. Not a must see unless your a huge French history buff.
The place overflows with grandeur, but... honestly, having done a good amount of castles in a week, the audio guide for this one was pretty bad. It focuses too much on the art and architecture (which I love!) and leaves aside almost completely the history factor. What happened in this castle? How was everyday life? What great events took place here? I was lucky to have a French friend with me who knew a little of the place and its history, because otherwise it would've been a very pointless visit.
On the bright side, art is everywhere on this castle. Wherever you look there's a statue, painting, carving or just something that deserves appreciation. There's also plenty of seating spots so you can take your time and really see everything.
If you go, keep in mind that the castle visit itself lasts around 1.30h (2 if you do it thoroughly). I recommend getting the access for the Trianon too, bringing some sandwiches to eat in the parks and making a whole day out of it :)
Apart from the queueing(one and a half hours with tickets) it was grossly overcrowded..like sardines as you move along. Very difficult to see anything. The audio is hopeless...this is Louis bed etc!!. Toilet facilities are very poor. The gardens are well laid out but very repetitive and in places unkempt. All in all not worth the time. Restaurant Angelinos was nice if pricey for what you get but at least there was room to imbibe the atmosphere, lively waiter too.
No doubts , the palace is worth visiting . Even if you do not get a chance to visit a palace you can always visit the gardens of the palace and take some magic pics with the canal or a palace in the background
Amazing palace and gardens. Book early and go early!
It's impossible to see it all in one day. You just don't appreciate it's size until you're there. The pic is just a small part of the huge gardens.
The fact that such a huge building and important monument doesn't have two entrances dividing groups from individuals is hilarious. Also, why place in the site that free admissions can skip the line and directly go through entrance A when EVERYONE in reality has to wait in the line for the entrance A. I would expect better management from such a famous and well visited monument.
If the weather is bad, be prepared to not see the gardens at their full glory, the statues are covered and the trees are bare. Also, the waiting line is huge and combine that with cold wind and rain, really not a good idea.
The interior of the palace is worth it though, for sure. Lots of history and you get a good hang of how the royal couple used to live.
Very beautiful palace! You can buy a ticket in advance and save your time. But in case if you forget - don't worry, let start look for a tickets machine (beading on your left when you fencing on palace Versailles)
If you are in Paris then this a must visit place. Make sure to go early and also buy your Palace ticket online to save yourself from the long queue. I would recommend the audio guide which handy and informative. A beautiful Palace and worth the visit.
Beautiful! Favorite parts were all the painted ceilings and the doors. All the doors had different emblems.
Initially we thought it might not be worth it to go there as it might take almost full day to properly visit this place. But once you get to this place, it's amazing and one of the best place to be visited. Specially garden is magnificent and so picturesque. Must go place even you are not history lover.
Breathtaking palace. Words cannot describe how magnificent this place is. You must visit for yourself. My only issue was that there were renovations which prevented us from seeing Marie Antoinette's room
Amazing experience seeing the grounds of Versailles! Truly spectacular! But I will say the line was insane to get it . You read online how busy it is and how long large line is , but even showing up at 9am when the grounds opened, I was shocked by how many people were already there. It was 9:15 and there had to be 1500 people there already. And that was having purchased a ticket prior to arriving (which I recommend doing). That being said completely worth your time! And it will be a memorable experience! We stayed there all day long, there is so much to see!
Try to get there early. After 10-10.30 the queue becomes very long and you will waste a lot of time. Given the opening time of the different areas I'd suggest starting with the palace, then the garden and last the Petit and Grand Trianon. Don't miss Marie-Antoniette "farm house" at the very end of the garden, it's really worth it! Hopefully restoration work will soon be completed.
Exquisitely beautiful - can see it all on a self-guided tour in an afternoon. Very cheap to catch the train from Paris, the station is very close by.
Fantastic place to visit plenty to do and see buitifull inside lovely gardens spent quite a few hours their
It's huge, wasn't able to visit the gardens, bit it's very cool
A must-see for any Paris trip. It is just a short Metro ride (although you have to pay to get back to Paris if you bought the ParisPass as it is outside the zone included in your Metro pass). It is so incredibly ornate and so lavish that it basically caused the downfall of the monarchy in France. It is important to note that it takes almost a full day to see just the main Chateau so if you want to see the gardens and auxillary buildings plan on needing 2 days. Also show up about an hour before opening bc if you arrive late the lines can be over 4 hours long!
Truely amazing place and a must visit for every tourist
Gardens are high quality, nice self guided audio tour.
Get there 30 mins pre opening and line up. Even with prebooked tickets after 9.00am there is a line up. Save the gardens for last to avoid the massive crowds.
Stunning example of the greatness of all the artists that build this extraordinary masterpiece. You should make sure to have at least one day for the palace and the other buildings, the gardens and the fountains. For me if you could plan more time it's better - you will have the possibility to really dive into the atmosphere and the beauty.
This is an amazing place. It definitely shows why France was a great colonial power. I will probably come back to see the Hall of mirrors again. There is so much history here.
Great gardens and all is well kept even in the dry summer time. The exits could be a bit better marked on the trails , although the map is of course well done, but you actually have to have a photographic memory to remember the gardens, or take a picture..
To see how Royalty lived in comparison with the rest of country, one has to visit the Palace. give yourself lots of time to enjoy the grounds as well as the palace. There is long lineup to get into the palace and the place is usually crowded; the day we were there with a group we had pickpockets pointed out that were in the crow, so beware.
I've never seen such disrespect with people! They let in way more people than it fits there and close the most important rooms because there is no staff??? They just don't care as thousands of people will come anyway. You walk inside being pushed by other people. Like cattle. I came here more than 5 times in the last 15 years but I am never coming back again.
Super cool place and majestic place. Bring good walking shoes, it is a very big area to explore, you can also take a tour bus, But for the person's with ants in there pants is a big recommendation to walk around and explore.
One word.... SPECTACULAR!
While you are there, ride a bike, row a boat and really soak in the surroundings.
One of the largest palaces in Europe. It has many richly decorated rooms with the most famous being the Hall of Mirrors. The park is also enormous with many large fountains that are functioning on special days at certain hours.
The queue to the palace will be long even if you buy a ticket on-line.
Hello Wich is th official website to buy tickets on line?
If I dont buy tickets before getting there, how much time in line to get in?
Very cool. Line too long. Gardens are nice - I want to take a picnic next time. Very hot and crowded inside, but pretty. There was a gentle swan hanging out
Tip to travellers : book ur ticket in advance
Be ready to stand in a queue for hours, be there early so u won't wait that long. And bring umbrella if you have it already if the weather is wet as standing in the rain won't be pretty. Its worth the wait
Four hour que in the sun with no sign of refreshments or shade - and that was after buying a ticket online beforehand. Inside it was so crowded that you couldn't even get through the doorways from one room into the next. Absolutely terrible service at the only available restaurant and that was after having paid a fortune for a very average lunch. Tried to see the gardens but was told that we'd have to pay extra despite our tickets supposedly including them. By far our worst experience in France - don't bother!!
Simply loved it although the weather was absolutely dismal
Very beautiful. I was initially on the fence with respect to visiting and then decided to make a go for it. I'm so glad I did. Go early. We got there 30-40 minutes early (i.e., around 8:20am) in early May 2018. At the time, the line was about one half length from the security gate to entrance gate. By the time we will entered the palace the line was three full lengths. So going a bit early really paid off. Ticket office doesn't open until 9:00am. So buy your tickets online. It doesn't cost any more than buying in person. Also, buy the pass. The extra few bucks to get the palace AND the Trianon is completely worth it. Loved visiting. Check it out!
Beautiful inside and out. Definitely worth a visit, better on a sunny day.
Is not in its best moments...
Filthy bathrooms. Gargabe acumulated around garbage cans. Unreasonable long lines
Building needs a massive restoration. They only open about 10 rooms of a HUGE building. Awfully crowded rooms.
Fountains with seaweed! And they are only on for 2 hours!!! So everyone pay to get into a garden and they only turn it on for 2 hours a day!!!
It is an iconic place to go. But I think french gouverment is relaxed on its maintenance because people will go any way...
Absolutely overrated. There is one room that's worth it (the mirror room) and the rest is just normal rooms with average paintings. 30-minute visit
Magnificent. 2300 rooms. But you do not get to see all of them. The grounds are just as great as ever. Take a camera.
Beautiful place and lovely walk around the gardens but all Versailles communications policy is atrocious : the website advertises fully active fountains during summer but the reality is that there are only 3 fountains open during the day- the others are turned on only on Saturday nights. The garden maps are partly unreadable as they have inserted pictures onto the actual map. NEVER hire a golf buggy, those people are arrogant and the service is not acceptable. And don t get me started on the staff inside the palace, who are plain rude and treat the visitors like cattle to be yelled at. This ruined the day for us - but as the palace is extraordinary and they know they ll always have visitors, why bother making any kind of effort ? That s Parisian arrogance for you.
A wonderful experience to tread in the footsteps of ancient Kings and Queens. The interior is opulent and beyond beauty, truly magnificent as is the surrounding architecture.
A number one stop in Paris! For history, architecture and art seekers
Everything is beautiful here! Don't forget to visit the gardens.
Beautiful place! It s huuuuuge! Beware line cutters and... ehem-eastern a**** tourists who don t know what lines are! I swear they are good at boxing out, but not for basketball purposes. I would recommend signing up for a guided tour through the Versailles museum itself. You ll avoid the ridiculous line but they sell out pretty fast.
Beautiful surroundings and all very clean and tidy, did get a little lost after getting in regarding the bag drop but otherwise just take a drink and snack with you as we waited an hour to get in but all worth while, certainly recommended getting your ticket in advance
Although the palace is far from Paris centre but it worth the visit. Very beautiful place (especially the gardens).
It s just a very impressive palace! Nice architecture, views, and gardens.
Historic Place that you should see once in your live. I was a bit disappointed of the Garden.
A place where history meets art. I have enjoyed the Palace and the way everything was organized in order to try as much as possible the long lines.
A must see in France! Plan several hours to see this beautiful place! The Gardens are unreal! They have music and fountain shows that are worth it all ! We visited here our last day in France and so glad we got to visit , it had not been in our plans. So glad we did it, the line was long, lots of tour buses, and it was HOT but so worth our time! The gardens were the best part of it all ! Don t miss them !
A historical monument that is the embodiment of decadence. Expect to spend 3 hours here if you do the gardens and make sure you purchase your tickets ahead of time. Also the palace cycles through exhibits so make sure you see the ones just off the beaten path .
Beautiful! I advice to visit the Gardens of Versailles which are breathtaking as well!
Quite possibly the most beautiful palace in the entirety of Europe. Amazing architecture and super construction. The large amount of tourists and visitors does make the experience less enjoyable so perhaps a visit during winter, or fall is more enjoyable. Still, the palace is amazing in so many ways and one could spend days looking at all the amazing paintings, sculptures, rooms, and gardens. Just as well Versailles is a beautiful city and worth exploring just as much.
