I had so much fun at this zoo. As an Oregonian I grew up at the Portland Zoo, so it was aweaome to see another one for a change. Feeding the giraffe was the highlight. So cool!My Mom can't stop talking about them now.
One negative was all the uphill walking, it was difficult for my Mom who has arthritis in both knees, by the end of the day she was exhausted.

Visiting from TX. The walk up the mountain is a great workout, esp with young children. I have kids ages toddler ti teen and they loved it. It was a rainy half part of day but we still enjoyed our time there. We got to bring in outside food and eat at the pavilion. Would love to go again before leaving.
They have made a ton of improvements over the years, the enclosures are bigger and more natural looking. It is still a good hike to get around the but that's not a deterrent, bring strollers or wagons for smaller kids, and they have rentals.
This zoo is spectacular! The setting is beautiful and relaxing, you feel like you're in the mountains. The animal set ups are so natural and large. You get an opportunity to see so many animals up close and interact with them, most at no extra charge. Really a great experience all around. Best zoo in Colorado for sure!
Awesome zoo!! And set up so beautiful!! I loved this place!! But I heard a terrible place to work for and lots of food waste. At the end of the day everything goes in the garbage I think they could do better.
Great Zoo! Our family has had a membership for 25 years! The membership is an incredible value. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the best in the nation. Modern exhibits and beautiful scenery. People from lower altitude need to take their time and drink water. The zoo is hilly and the elevation is 6700 ft.
The $10 cup that got you free refills now costs $1 per refill. These were not the terms agreed to when I purchased the cup. But what can you expect from something run by the broadmoor. Did you know they are the target of a class action law suit for violating labor laws?
Tons of animals, not a bad price for the experience. Feeding the Giraffes was very fun for my 2 year old. The goat petting area was also a hit. Food at the little restaurant in there is super expensive though.
Best zoo I've ever attended. Something for every member of the family. Feeding giraffes and goats for the kids and beer/wine with the artisan pizza for mom and dad.
Every time we visit is a different adventure. Early mornings to late afternoons, any time of day gives you new insight into the behavior of the animals.
Being up close and personal with the animals is a unique experience in itself, but staff are quick to offer cute anecdotes or helpful information making the experience even more enjoyable. Make sure you pet a wallaby and feed the giraffes when you visit.
Having been to various national and international zoos, we can honestly say, resoundingly declare the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to be one of the utmost best.
It works around the environment, making what is already a wondrous experience truly spectacular with the views of mountains, from heights to observe the city and beyond. They offer numerous close encounters, including opportunities to feed the lovely creatures being cared for within. There are an ample amount of employees should anyone need assistance or have inquiries. Their symbolic adoption program is extensive, the gift shop attractive and well stocked. Upon buying a ticket, we were given three tokens each to then put towards a donation of our choosing (i.e. toads, vultures, orangutans, etc). Though we went during the day, it looked like their holiday light display would've been marvelous.
If we lived here, we would EASILY buy a membership. The educational aspect is just refreshing, assuring, and, frankly, moving. Of the things we partook in during our visit to Colorado Springs, this phenomenal place was a favorite. *Is* a favorite.
Awesome zoo with interactive exhibits and a great setting. Expensive. Costs to get in and to do stuff like feed giraffes, etc, but goes to a worthy cause and the grounds are immaculate. Bring comfortable walking shoes and be ready for some cardio since it seems like you have to walk up hill everywhere!
Such a fun place to go. Would have loved to know about the expense of peak days however, it's a little pricy but it's such a large and well modeled zoo. Went to the electric safari and I must say, it was so much better and bigger than the Denver Zoo lights. Don't get me wrong I still love the Denver Zoo and it fits my budget better, but you must go to the cheyenne mountain zoo at least once. Your family will love to feed the giraffes and watch the animal demonstrations. Actually I loved it myself and I am past a child's age.
Hanging out with animals in their natural habitat is pretty cool. The sloth that slings around the ropes throughout the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a trip!
Not the biggest zoo in the world, but is an absolute pleasure to walk through. The animals here seem to be more active than in most zoos. The giraffe feeding is very affordable and a great way to get up close and personal with giraffes. Overall an excellent zoo that will take you about half a day to walk through but will be an absolute pleasure the whole way through.
For a small zoo it is really fantastic. The exhibits are set up so kids have an easy view and most animals are easy to spot. Plus, who doesn't love feeding giraffes?
Excellent family friendly activity. I have never been to a zoo with so many opportunities to interact with the animals from hand feeding giraffes to feeding birds and even walking with and petting wallabies that roam through the Australian exhibit. We arrived right when they opened (which I highly recommend for parking) With walking and seeing everything and getting a bite to eat and stopping at the gift shop we finished at 1pm. There was one area of the park that was under construction but it was blocked off to guests really well for safety. When we left at 1 I bet the line of cars waiting to get in the park was half mile to a full mile outside the gates to get in. A sign said it would be an hr wait just to park. We went on a Tuesday mind you. I dont want to know what that line would be if it had been on a weekend. So best advice is GO EARLY
Warm, friendly environment with a large variety of animals. There are areas where you may interact with the birds/animals as well, like the aviary. There is a children's area with things for them to climb on and goats for them to feed and pet. It is a bit hilly so strollers for the younger children is advised. Everything looks handicap accessible though some of the exhibits would be hard to view from a wheelchair. All of the volunteers and staff are super friendly and helpful. The shows are super informative and my family has learned alot with every visit. You also have beautiful views of the city from different parts of the zoo.
Boo at the Zoo, their special event for Halloween, was fantastic. They didn't have as many animals as I thought but there were plenty of stations for the children to get their treats. The kids all had tons of fun.
My boyfriend and I went to the electric safari. I have been to it before but he has never been. We enjoyed it very much! We had to park at a different location and ride a bus to the zoo and that wasn't so great cuz they crammed us in there like sardines lol but we managed. It was the Sunday before Christmas so I knew it would be busy. The only complaint I would have was that we purchased the tickets online and when I first looked at it, my card had been charged three times for one two ticket visit! It took a couple of days for two of those charges to be returned to my card.
This zoo is by far the most unique layout I have ever been to. Sitting right on the side of the mountain makes it an ideal place to walk around and see both animals and panoramic views. Attached picture of a trip to their annual Electric Safari
I ve been to several zoos, including the Smithsonian s zoo in D.C., and this is the best. The giraffe and elephant exhibits are simply outstanding, plenty of places to eat (typical amusement park prices), and very well designed. Definitely recommend!
This place was outstanding! For a fee you can feed the giraffes, elephants and goats. The zoo is built on a hillside so there is some uphill walking... but the do feature golf carts for people who have trouble. The view of Colorado Springs is amazing! I wouldn't miss this!
This is the BEST zoo I have ever been to. And I've been to a lot of zoo's. Definitely a family must destination. Go feed and love on the giraffes, take a walk about thru the wallabys and love on them also. Stop by the pizza shop and get some tasty treats. Or ride thru the zoo with your honey on the ski slope thingy . It's just an amazing place. Don't forget to ride the carousel.
