Bad experience- reserved a booth 4 days ago, cause it was a special occasion. They confimed the reservation that morning thru text, but when we showed up 15 mins before time and were ok to wait, hostess insisted that we take a table instead. Had a great server Voitek and also a great and lively bhel puri server. Bartenders were lively and made amazing cocktails. Loved it. Manager went to every table and intentionally avoided our table. Rude. Bhel puri was really what it was supposed to taste. Lamb shank very low on spices than prior orders. Methi malai catch of the day - absolutely tasteless(wonder why its on the menu). Lamb keema nachos were yummy. Jalebi cake was good too. Rude manager. He needs to go. Overall 3 out of 5. This was my 8th visit. They should strive harder cause this is a high end restuarant. Hospitality training should be made mandatory for all working at the restuarant. They shudnt discriminate with customers. Super disappointed in that aspect.

Experienced just about the worst service ever! We were offered the main course before the appetizers, offered the wrong check at the end of our meal and just completely ignored by the service staff. Do not fancy this restaurant just because of the owners reputation! The staff is doing a fine job sinking that reputation.

In short, this was life-changing. Showing up for happy hour was the best decision I've made in a long time. Highly recommend the chicken tikka poutine and the blackeyed pea croquettes. Also, the bartenders are super sweet and helpful. A wonderful Nashville experience!

Those not familiar with Indian cuisine may like Chauhans, but in my opinion definitely not the best Indian food in Nashville. But it is probably the most expensive. Small protein portions, bland sauces, complicated menu.

The service was amazing and the food was fabulous. I ordered the "make your own dish" and added a vegetable to it for 5.00 more. It doubled the size of the dish. I will be going back. Not because of the portion size, which was perfect, but because of the quality.

After seeing Maneet on chopped for almost half my life, I thought this place would blow my mind. However, the food was average, if not below, and the 'fusion' bit isn't really all that innovative. The ambience is great, but the food was quite disappointing If you actually enjoy good Indian food, please spend your money and time elsewhere.

Although it seems to be extremely difficult in obtaining a table (it was a very busy Thursday evening and we mistakenly neglected to make reservations, to be fair), it was a welcome and pleasant surprise to experience Indian cuisine in such a charming and cozy atmosphere. The only regret was that we had to leave. I'm highly impressed with the flavors and presentation of all the items we selected. I will return with my significant other so that she and I can enjoy a more intimate and private night.

The food was amazing! My husband and I just had our 1 year anniversary dinner there. He had the duck leg and I had the lamb chops. We were greeted with a complimentary app for our anniversary. Everything we had was spectacular! My lamb chops in the tamarind sauce with the squash was amazing. My Husband had the duck leg and he said it was delicious. After our meal we where also given complimentary glasses of champagne to toast our love for one another. Great service, great food and love the atmosphere.

Do yourself a favor and go. This place is so next level. Whether you love indian cuisine or youre a little unsure, there is something for everyone. We ordered several items off the menu and enjoyed every single one. Will return.

We were really looking forward to trying this place. The waitress was pleasant started well. The appetizer was nicely presented and was good. That was the end of our satisfaction. We ordered breakfast and took an hour at least. Food was cool but by that time too late to send back. We finished our meal then waited another half hr for our check. Should at least offer bread or something if too busy for small tables. I doubt we will return in the future. Too many options in Nashville for 2nd chances. Value not present. Decor nice but acoustics poor for dinner conversation.

Great concept. Coconut curry sauce didn't live up to my expectation. Too salty. Spice level needs to be clear on the menu for each item. If you don't ask it can lead up to a disappointing experience.

We love Chauhan!!! The flavors are absolutely delicious and a welcome modern take on Indian cuisine! Chef Chauhan is very friendly if you are lucky enough to be there and catch her! The breakfast tacos at Sunday brunch are the best breakfast tacos I've ever had, and I've had my fair share of them! Also, the curried deviled eggs are an exciting twist on the ole southern staple!

Fresh and ambitious take on traditional Indian fare. Dishes like the Chicken Tandoori poutine bring a fascinating fun fusion of American favorites with Asian flare. Service was excellent and knowledgeable. Enjoyed the lamb vindaloo and came away greatly impressed. It is a spicy dish, no doubt, but one that is just the right amount of heat. Will return soon.

Our waiter was spot on with the recommendations and everything we tried was amazing. I'm only disappointed in myself for not coming here sooner. I ordered the lamp chops and it was Delicious! Nice portion too! The cheesecake was to die for, Gulab Jamun Rose Cheesecake. Even my drink was great, it was their version of an Old Fashion. Believe it was called the ol Chauhan. You will not be disappointed here. Everything had lots of flavor and cooked to perfection.

The food served is very delicious with a great mannerism portrayed by the serving staff.the ambience is soothing on weekdays and happening in the weekends. You might even have to wait for entry during busy weekends. All in all a good place to be when you want to have good food and nice service.

Just wow. Food was great. Generous portions. Fantastic service. Certainly worth the cost. I had a couple drinks and a basic dinner, and it was about $35 before the tip. If you're on your own and want a good place to grab a meal the bar was a great place to do just that.

Everything we had was delicious. I had salmon kabobs and I would have drank the mint sauce it came with from a cup. My wife had "meat and three" and everything was good too. You can ask what the chef's choice is before ordering it. I'd happily go back.

I went for their monthly High Tea on Jan 20. The service was terrible; every staff member present forgot about our table repeatedly and when the orders were made, the waiter forgot about them on more than one occasion. To make matters worse, the tip was automatically calculated for our table of 4. The food was well made and very good, but over priced for the portion size. The atmosphere was well done.

Ordered Carryout. The food is excellent and refined. The online ordering system does not ask you for your preferred spice level. Sauces are perfectly smooth, rich, and aromatic. The flavors are complex and distinctive, but not assertive. Portions are generous. I feel this type of dining does not translate well to carry out. It excels when delivered fresh and hot to a table that will savor flavors and discuss the food. If I'll be eating and reheating at home, an ability to specify spiciness is helpful. In general, I like spicy - especially if I need to substitute assertiveness for elegance. Dine in customers can probably add spicy condiments to taste. Perhaps I should have ordered some chutney. Instead, I'll get my carryout from Best of India and take guests to dine at Chauhan Ale and Masala house when we start entertaining out of town guests again. Or - carry out the more assertive food from Chaatable.

We really enjoyed the food and ambiance at this restaurant. We love Indian food and weren't disappointed by this more modern take on traditional Indian food. The decor, lighting, and atmosphere were very soothing and relaxing. Not overly loud so could easily hold a conversation with my husband (LOL). We had appetizers earlier so wish we had ordered one meal to share because we were going to a show and could not take any leftovers with us. The portions were very generous, the huge chunks of lamb were perfectly cooked, and the sauces were moderately spiced and very enjoyable. Honestly, we nearly had an entire meal left and were disappointed to leave so much great food. All of the staff were friendly and engaging. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning and eating ALL of our food on our next trip to Nashville.

The food, drinks, and appetizers here are all amazing. This time we tried the Tandoori Chicken Poutine. That was the best idea we had all day. I could eat three of these, skip dinner and go to bed happy.

It looked promising from the reviews and menu. However, my husband and I had a subpar experience.
The theme was a modern fusion of bar food and indian food. The food itself was decent but overpriced. We had to wait 20 minutes for 2 appetizers in a 2/3 filled resaurant. Unfortunately, the worst part was the service. We were seated at the bar and the bartender completely ignored us except for once.

Mind Blown! I wasn't expecting a lot saying as though I'm Indian. While the food is on the heavy side (think loads of heavy cream and butter) this is definitely one of the best Indian places I'm the US. Period.

I would describe this as approachable Indian food. I'm down for whatever, I'll eat out of the garbage if I'm hungry enough but some people really freak out about trying Indian food. They think if they take a bite they are immediately going to teleport into Slumdog Millionaire, I don't understand it.

Anyways when you have one of those people take them here. It's all the rich steeped Indian flavors and cuisine presented in a super approachable form. Most restaurants in Nashville as of late are kind of "one and done" to me. You go, you see what all the hype is about and it's more compelling to try the next spot than it is to go back and try other dishes at the original. This restaurant is one I'm excited to go back to and try EVERYTHING. This restaurant is the one I would take visitors to. In a sea of hype and gimmick this spot stands alone with actual delicious food.

My wife and I came here for Sunday brunch. We like good food, and will give the disclaimer that we've found the Nashville food circuit a bit overrated. The flavours were authentic, portions terribly small for a good brunch, a lot of the ingredients sadly did not appear fresh. After spending $36, one probably shouldn't walk away hungry when you've had the most pricy dish on the menu. We were really excited to try it out, sadly were better off cooking at home as Nashville continues to disappoint.

The prices of curry here are almost double what you'd find at another Indian restaurant. I wish I could say the food here is great but it's just okay. I ordered a veggie curry and the potatoes were undercooked.

Nashville is the "It City." Now everyone wants to open a restaurant, store, etc. here. And that is just what Chef Maneet Chauhan did; however, this restaurant was not executed with the precision of the other great places that have recently opened.

Believe all the bad reviews Chauhan Ale & Masala House has received. I didn't. I took a group of friends and left the evening apologizing for the service, the food and the experience.

The Service: Slow. Indifferent. Irreverent. We waited 25 minutes before ASKING our server if we could place a drink order. She then requested that we order our entrees simultaneously. (We would have ordered cocktails and appetizers, then wine and entrees. However, that was not an option.) The entrees were served at different times, as in 15 minutes a part. There was never an apology or recognition that the service was slow and poorly timed. Generally, our server was irritated that we at her table.

The Food: Meh. Underwhelming. Uninspired. Yes, the typical Indian flavor were there. However, there was nothing excellent or stand-out about the food. It was average at best. Several of the meats were overcooked. And the execution and attention to detail were missing. (We decided that we could get the same quality of food at South Street or we could order the same dishes at Tavern and it be excellent.)

The Experience: An amateur's attempt at joining the big leagues without seeking advice/expertise of those in the big leagues. The space's acoustics are poor, thus, extremely loud. While the light fixtures are pretty, everything else about the space is cheap, random, incohesive and poorly executed. The service treats customers as though they are irrelevant and a nuisance. And the food is common.

For Chef Chauhan to have received the accolades that are touted when gracing "us poor 'ole hillbillies" with her presence in our fair city, the effort was uninspired and underwhelming.

Bottomline: If you are looking for great food, you know where to go... Holland House, Adele's, 404, MStreet restaurants, the Southern. If you are wanting Indian food, Woodlands is still and will always be king. Because Chauhan Ale & Masala House is not the place for either.

We were a group of 5 Indians. Didn t like the taste of anything we had - gol gappa, chicken parkora, malwani fish curry, steak, veg korma, veg tikka Masala, paneer bhuna, jalebi dessert. If the taste had been better, would have talked about the presentation which could use a lot of work as well. Had expected much better from Chef Chauhan, after viewing so much food network!

Nice looking place inside / trendy and modern. Make sure you get the daily chefs menu. You get a good selection of items for a fraction of the price you'd pay by buying a la carte. The menu is way more Indian than Southern but still some interesting items there like mango ribs. It's fairly pricey but if you get the $23 set menu its great value.

The place was packed, but that was expected for a Saturday night. We had reservations and arrived a little ahead of time and didn't need to wait more than five minutes for our table. Our waiter was very friendly and checked on us often. The menu is a very interesting spin on traditional Indian food. The ambiance is excellent, although with the music and people talking it becomes hard to have conversations at your own table. Of all the dishes that we ordered the Kale Pakora Chaat and the Tandoor Roasted Pork Tenderloin stood out! They were also able to customize the Lamb Keema Papdi Nachos to make it vegetarian, and added Paneer to it instead of the lamb. The Kheer Sundae was the perfect way to end our meal. Will definitely visit again when we're in Nashville!

Before you read the review, please note that this is restaurant by a famous chef and expected more. The food was good but not great. I have had exceptional food in not so famous restaurants for a little bit less $. What's great is the idea of fusion food and the recipes. Deserts are interesting and good. The menu too seems limited. Overall, it's decent food but not worth the price or the hype.
