I enjoy both the cinema and events at BAM. Nothing too fancy but the quality of films and performances is great. They do need to update their listening devices though. Other movie theaters have subtitle readers that fit into the cupholder which works far better than headphones.
I turned up but there was no show going on in the Theater, I was so disappointed.
Interesting place for art a location has a variety of things to do beautiful location beautiful building
Excellent place to work and have a lesson on music with you and your family instruments pleasures.
I just watched Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am. Absolutely brilliant!
The teather is beautiful and the Madonna show was amazing!!
Theater is a good size with great seat arrangement. Disappointed with the grace Jones documentary though. The director of the film missed the mark with It's legendary subject.
Great curatorship of movies, dance and theater. Food is awesome.
Really beautiful place to see films, has a range you might not find at more commercial theaters. Also somehow the popcorn is better here.
Always friendly and knowledgeable staff. Top notch presentations.
I had a great experience here with Jimmy Kimmel live show. I loved the VIP special room at second floor.
Had a wonderful time watching the Peter and the Wolf Production! Looking forward to coming back.
Beautiful venue, very helpful staff. They even helped us during an altercation during the show and were quite attentive.
Yfg gh brut yh cf fff regret r teg t th u u uiu u just hi iou unbelievable
Wonderful acoustics and all round great performance space.
Beautiful mainstay of the downtown Brooklyn landscape. Movies, theatre, performance art. It's truly one of a kind.
We watched Cancer Journal by Lana Lin. It s about Audre Lorde.

Smaller, more intimate seating and quality, non-blockbuster features.
One of the few places where quality is presented in the world of arts. Few angst ridden artists pass through this venerable place. There is though an increase in the number of people in the audience who I would describe as being shee-shee-pooh pooh i.e. pretentious. But BAM is doing a decent job of bringing great performances that enlighten and inspire many of us in the audience.
It's a great space.. they also do great shows. My issue is they do diddly for veterans, although to hear them say it they do. If you want to attend a concert and receive the veteran discount you have to purchase tickets on the day I'd the show (read: we hope there are none for you to purchase that day but if so you can choose from a bad seat or an even worse one at a discount and forgive us if you and yours can't sit together but...).
This policy left such a bad taste in my mouth that there will be no renewing of my membership PERIOD! I bought the tickets that I set out to buy ( having spoken earlier to a clerk who told me it had to done in person, and after spending an over getting there, only to discover I could have bought them on line.
Other than the fake we honor the military veterans PR campaign I have no issue with BAM
Run down, poor restrooms, but hey, we're here for the show!
What a great space. Beautiful architecture to house great performances.
Love t hgv at place good show, the last time I was there was when my daughter was in high school.
It's a great theater. Good drinks and food. Awesome service also. Oh and the movie was good too....lol
The theater is great but way too cold. -1 star for that.
BAM is an NYC treasure.Great theater, dance. Also art movie house.
Jimmey Kimmell live, his and my 3rd time in Brooklyn, got there super early and was placed in nose bleeds, better to arrive late.
Children's film festival was amazing. Age appropriate films and a ton of activities for them to participate in afterwards!
Great acoustics, great seats, LEG ROOM!
And, great plays, stars!
Full of talent, constant quality programming all year long.
Great Cinema, prices are lower than some Manhattan ones and it wasn't super crowded, got a pretty good seat on opening night of the movie we were watching.
BAM is a landmark in Brooklyn and must visit place. Great performances, programs and a unique experience.
My Lord, I've lived out of the city too long...staff is very snappy and acts as if they're soooo much better than thou. Too bad their attitude doesn't match the beautiful space.
We saw Madonna here during her stay, so no pictures. The theater is insanely gorgeous. Her show was incredible.
We had balcony seats. I thought the sound and the view were both good. BUT...
It was literally terrifying going down those stairs to get to our seats with NO RAILING! They are incredibly steep and nausea inducing. No joke. If you have balcony seats: Don't wear heels. Don't have a fear of heights. Don't have vertigo. Don't have more than one drink. Don't have any balance issues. Don't carry anything in both hands. Don't look down.
We got to our seats after paying entirely too much for one drink each ($60). Incredibly slow service and you feel forced to tip the suggested amounts shown on the big iPad you pay on. Anyway, the only reason we even got up from the terrifying seats is because Madonna took her time getting on stage and we grew bored (not the theater's fault).
I suppose I would go again, but I would need to sit on the ground level. Oh and, I suppose if you are big, tall or both, the seats will not be very comfortable.
Amazing interior, sound and overall design...very good venue for shows! Easy to get to from lirr or Subway
On of my favorite places ever. Cultured inviting and open, its never forgoten itself and just going out to sit in the old theater for a flick is a treat.
there is a difference between a theater and a movie theater, the BAM is the first kind.
We saw "Sorry to Bother You". I had no idea I could see films here with a membership.
Great place to experience film as an art form! I came here to see a black and white Japanese film. Not a gimmicky one that's well-known, but one that people who've studied the field can appreciate. I am looking forward to watching Woody Allen's new film here.
Being a Bam friend is a great deal, they have this special parties with wine and cheese and really great crowed. Also you can get discount tickets. The opera is amazing, the acoustics are particularly terrific
Beautiful old theater. U have to take an elevator to the balcony.
I do like the fact that its historic but I thought the upkeep wld of been a little better alot of people told me they didnt realize it's a movie theatre inside of it which it is but it's not the best unfortunately.
A visit to Brooklyn would not be complete without checking out BAM. This building houses Rose Cinema (the usual blockbusters & less common offerings like Oscar Nominated Animation) and the Opera House (where you can see grand productions like Semele and the American Ballet Theater in the winter).
BAM also offers free WiFi.
BAM is a treasure. I mostly go for independent films. The theaters are small and the seating old-fashioned, single-level, but the sound quality is reliably good, and the popcorn is fresh. I recommend it for movies you can't find elsewhere.
One of the timeless landmarks that makes Brooklyn, Brooklyn.
Love the selection of movies, love the performances at the theater and the opera house. Always something interesting and top notch performances.
Took my class there for a performance (Dance Africa). They enjoyed it. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because we were sat in the balcony which was extremely steep and my students were very uncomfortable as they moved to their seats.
I love to attend events their. The staff is very helpful, and they always try to fulfill our needs. This is a safe place if you want to relax and watch a movie. The cafe is also a nice place to get together with friends are family.
I had an amazing time at the festival. This was my first time and I will differently come back next year.
As a member of BAM I can say that a wide variety of outstanding programming & exceptional customer service are just two of the reasons why I joined. This cultural institution continues to invest in the community by providing after school programs, resources that enhance high school curriculum, and substantive, relevant theatre, dance, music, and film that stays with you long after the performance ends.
What is not to love? My favorite cinema in Brooklyn.
A excellent historic architecturally beautiful space. Great programming represents the diversity of Brooklyn.
