Great place to visit. Lots of things to see plus live music. Be prepared to spend up to $50 per person for whole day trip. Its well kept and clean. Most things cost $6 as an entrance fee for some sightings.

Fun zoo for being in NYC! A few exhibits are currently closed: Monkey House, Polar Bear, and outdoor Giraffe. Loved the sealion feeding and the Grizzly bear outdoor exhibit.
Great zoo. Watched the weather and saw a rainy day opportunity on a Friday with little to no people in the park. The rain ended and we saw our chance, enjoying the whole place to ourselves for the afternoon. Some attractions were closed due to spring, but plenty to see despite that. Gorillas a favorite! I can see it being extremely busy during peak season, but this is a must for those never gone. Also, excellent work out, plenty of walking.
General admission is free for every one on Wednesday but it is nice if you can give a donation of how much you feel like you want to baby. There are exhibits are not included-for example the children's petting zoo is I think $6 a person but you are able to purchase an all pass ticket for $15 per Person and that gives you the ability to go to all the pay per for one flat rate. It pays for it self pretty quickly.
I went to the bronx zoo today with my family and was very disappointed. First, there were no temperature checks. Many guests did not follow social distancing and mask protocols, and no members of the staff enforced these rules. After today, I can definitely see why this is the only county having difficulty getting rid of covid.
The Bronx Zoo is a great place to spend a day while in New York City. Yes, it is in the Bronx and yes it is super easy to get to from the subway.
Wednesdays are free days. They ask you to make a donation if you can.
Make certain to get there early and have good walking shoes as this is a very large zoo with plenty of hills. The hills have both stairs and ramps so everyone has access. What a great treasure to have so close to everything.
We were there on Wednesday during spring break and the place was PACKED! This added to the atmosphere as we were mentally prepared.
Our favorite moment was actually another zoo visitor yelling to his kids in an undeniable New York accent "THEY GOT BEARS! THEY GOT BEARS!!!"
Parking hard to find. Almost $24 for 3 12 oz sodas and 3 small bags of chips reason for only 4 stars. Animals were active and park employee's were very friendly. Did have a military discount which was nice.
Such a great family day. Wednesday is donation day and you can save a couple of dollars. You can bring your own food and drinks. Be prepared to walk alot and try to make a plan before hand to maximize your time there.
If there's a groupon or google offer on this jump on it! Even in the winter there's tons to see and do and not even finish in 1 day! Make sure you bring your own water and food to save money. Their cafeteria is mediocre but not bad just overpriced.
Everyone wearing a mask and there were social distancing markers when in lines. Was very pleased, highly recommend to for something outside to do in these crazy times.
The Bronx Zoo is a gem in the Bronx. You don't see animals in cages, you feel like you're in their habitat. Peacocks roam the grounds of the zoo and get pretty close to you! I love bringing my kids to the the Children's Zoo, as they can see animals like peacocks, chickens, sheep, goats up close and feed them. There are many fun interactive exhibits in the Children's section. Just go! You won't be sorry! Don't miss the gorilla exhibit. They carry their babies and come right up to the glass to see you!
I love Bronx Zoo. It's enormous. Not quite as big as San Diego Zoo, but you'll need at least one whole day here. There is a rail network which transports you around the Zoo. I highly recommend a visit to Bronx Zoo! :)
It's always been pretty fun to visit the zoo on school trips, being from The Bronx means elementary schools send the kids there every year. However it is a bit pricey not to mention that there have been a few escaped animals every now and again. Mostly snakes. I remember being 10 in a class trip walking by the reptilian exhibit, and the whole class stopping to look & point at an escaped snake hiding in the bushes while hissing at us. It's pretty concerning that a snake could somehow escape from their glass enclosure and that staff either do not realize this( we moved on from there but on our way back that snake was still there) or simply decide not to report it to visitors. I'm honestly just glad no one got hurt that day since there was no news report of a zoo visitor being bit by a snake.
Have been coming here since a child and im a WCS member .. they have been adding more attractions to the zoo which is great!! but avoid coquito/toy people outside near the entrances because (me) thinking the stuffed animals inside the zoo are expensive, i paid for a 15$ unicorn that i saw being sold at the 99c store smh so feel free to get the souveneirs inside the zoo ..
This is the finest zoo I have been to personally, and I have been to a bunch across America and in Europe.
If you are visiting NYC, you should make it a priority to see this zoo. The displays are so well done, and the habitats are incredible. The amount of knowlege you can learn in one day here is amazing. Do the full package and see every single thing you can! The train ride through the Asian section is beautiful. The obstacle course adventure is a blast for young and old alike. The tigers and bears are way beyond "oh my." The old Rhino house is incredible, and what a great story there. Another fantastic story/scene is the Bison paddock. The history behind the Bison herd there is a great story as well.
By far, my favorite spot is the Gorilla hall. These families are so awesome to see. There is an old silverback who is quite the entertainer. He frequently comes right to the glass and performs for all. I can literally sit and watch this area for hours on end.
It was a fun park and day, but the fact that they make you pay extra for select options is dreadful. Luckily I got the total experience and thankful I did since certain things actually would ve made or break the visit, but with certain situations like the lions sleeping or the bears hiding, it ruins the trip and makes the rest of the visit boring. However, the total experience is completely recommended. It allows you to ride the shuttle and see the gorillas. If you go, make sure you get it.
Definitely one of, if not my favorite zoo. It is a very big zoo. It is definitely hard to see everything in one day without getting a full experience at every single exhibit and enjoying what the staff has painstakingly created to showcase these beautiful animals in as close to their natural environment as possible. Big plus, you get a great excerise out of the experience!
It's always a go to place for a nice time with family. Wednesday's you can go with reduced prices, or free, which ever you prefer. Definitely recommend, do not go on (really) hot days though, not a good idea. Some people can handle it, but I don't recommend it, especially if you're gonna walk. But it's a nice environment, with lots of space. And employees are great also.
Having come from Columbus I'm a little spoiled; Columbus has the best zoo in the country. I was disappointed in this one; none of the animals were visible and the zoo just felt trashy. Not worth it for me.
Some exhibits are really good and well organized but in total I didn't enjoy the park that much - it felt like it wasn't about the animals since we actually didn't see many. But when I think about it, that's the exact reason why I should give it 5 stars. The reason we didn't see many animals is that the zoo seems to be trying hard to create the best environment for them. It results in huge areas that simulate natural habitats - so if you are not lucky enough you can easily miss a tiger cause he decided to go to the other part of his "cage". So I guess the park is about the animals after all.
A World Class Zoo - What a change from the 1950's (I grew up a stone's throw away). Bring your camera. The zoo had undergone a complete revision which has occurred over time. Gone are the cages for lions and tigers. All are now in a more natural habitat. The zoo is divided into sections: Wild Asia, Africa, etc. In Wild Asia there is a 15-20 minute monorail ride that take you through isolated sections of the park. The ride is narrated and the open air cars enable you to see the animals from the safety of the monorail while stopping every so often to allow you to better see each exhibit. A few places have remained basically unchanged - like the Sea Lion exhibit and the Reptile House but for the most part, the zoo is a much better place for the animals and the visitors. Be aware - food is relatively expensive (as often is the case with zoos and museums where you are a "captive" audience (pun intended).
We love the Bronx Zoo! It s one of the best attraction for a weekend afternoon with kids of any age in NYC. The park is big, so plan accordingly. It s easy to spend 3 to 4 hours there and to still not visit everything.
The food is atrocious so plan ahead. Bring something in or eat the nasty fast food options.
Pro tip: look up the animal feeding times online and visit the treetop adventure.
One of the gems of New York City, truly a place that you shouldn't miss during a visit. It's also right near Arthur Ave, so you can grab great Italian food afterward. If you live in NYC, then I would suggest looking into the yearly membership as it lets you enjoy the zoo at your own pace as many times as you like per year.
Could have better signs to the exhibits. I wasn't the only one that walked by one bc the sign was behind leaves or not big enough. Also monorail was abit boring.
Go with family and have fun. It was an amazing experience for all of us. We loved walking on the hanging bridges at nature trek. Loved the Bengali monorail ride. Be sure to buy "total experience" tickets. You will love it.
I love the Bronx Zoo. I have been going since I was little. Took my kids there and now I go several time a year with my Granddaughter. I encourage everyone to become members
Amazing place I appreciate how much attention they pay to detail, creating a unique environment in which you really feel as is you're running in the wild with these unique and beautiful animals!
Basically, I am grateful that this place exists and it is certainly a fun, educational experience for my children and family. It is still the best zoo in the City and metro area. When you are inside you literally forget that you are in middle of the Bronx and are transformed to the middle of a forest, or Africa, or other wilderness environment, especially on a hot, humid NYC summer day. HOWEVER, the place need a serious face lift. It literally looks the same as when I was a child in attendance in the 90s - including the entrance, restrooms, and, sadly, most of the exhibits such as birds, crocs, mice, etc. That's why I give 4 stars. The Dinosaur Safari is cool and I appreciate the children's zoo section. All in all a great experience, albeit a bit expensive. Thanks for reading!
It's the world famous Bronx zoo and it lives up to its name. Lots of animals to see and want as crowded as I would have expected. They are taking excellent measures to ensure everyone's safety during covid. I was even surprised at the affordable snack and did prices. I'll be back in the warmer weather!
