It's not always easy going to a zoo where you are seeing animals outside of their natural habitat, however you can definitely tell that the Bronx Zoo cares about its animals. We had a great first visit and will definitely be back. There is so much to see so come with a plan and get there early if trying to do it all in on new day.
Big Place, Too little animals. What you see the most is birds. They need to bring more animals. The walk for the few animals is not worth it. We ride the Asia Monorail, you see a few different animals there but more trees than anything else, and one old elephant .
One of the best zoos in the world. Too bad they don't have pandas. But the Asia monorail and the Congo exhibit are amazing.
Well organized and fun! I highly recommend to buy season pass to visit different zoos and aquarium for family groups.
I loved the Bronx Zoo as a kid and Arthur Avenue is minutes away.
Lines are too long and loading and unloading is mismanaged making lines seem even longer. Parking is not guaranteed when you buy a prepaid $30.00 ticket online. There is a disclaimer in two locations on the website, but it is in graytones and microprint at the bottom of the page with a double asterisk.
Great place maintains by the city, great environment for children and families, great for picnics and photography, must visit in summer time, enjoy alot with family.
One of the favorite things I love to ask my parents to go to
Nice to visit the zoo... Haven't been there in 20 years... Most people were wearing their masks since it's a park requirement... Parking is a whopping $17... Free park admission on Wednesdays if you reserve free tickets on line Monday at 5pm.
Oh I love the zoo. There is no way I never not go to the zoo. The food service can be a bit better but the atmosphere is just fantastic.
Absolutely most comfortable I've felt with my wife and 5 year old!! Super clean, staff everywhere reminding those select few people that we are still in a pandemic and to cover with a mask, including nose, hand sanitizer everywhere, clear markings to keep safe distance while viewing animals inside enclosures. Please let this review be the last one you read before buying tickets!!
Great month to visit with its Halloween themed decor
This really is a wonderful Zoo. My Grandfather use to bring me here in the late 1950s. It has changed, but in a positive way.
Pros - great exhibits, great educational programs, wonderful zoo.
Cons - price, price, price... day for 2 adults almost $70 (granted this include the trains and tours). Parking $17 and a pain in the a$$.
Will definitely go back, but only on special days and occassions -
I feel bad for families with kids. It's an expensive day for 2 adults. I cant imagine paying to take 2 or 3 kids.
One of the loveliest place to visit. Healthy animals. Polite staffs :)
Great place to bring the grandchildren to give them the supervision of nature.
This place is huge there are multiple attractions.. We found out that the zoo was free on Wednesday but only to see animals if u want the "full experience" I believe it's 15$ a person
Hard to believe there are so many acres of trees and bushes and wild animals right in the middle of the city. The animals are fantastic they have such big areas to roam no matter how busy it is it does not feel crowded. The gorilla area is the absolute best in my opinion I love those creatures
One of the biggest zoo on east coast .... lots of attraction and learning for kids. Having membership will be best option as you can visit NY Aquarium etc in same membership and also get free parking.
I love going to this zoo!! Prepare to walk if you think on going... love gorillas
Winter lights at the zoo was fun with the family. Its not over the top but you can enjoy a walk through the zoo at night with some Christmas lights.
Nice zoo with a decent collection of animals. They strictly followed Covid social distancing guidelines with proper capacity management and sanitizer stations.Buying tickets online was a piece of cake. Thanks to the Military discounts, we scored an excellent discount on tickets! Staff are helpful and friendly.Beautiful nature preserve with lots of resting places and benches to enjoy nature and stretch your legs.Overall a wonderful place to explore on a weekend with your kids.
Everyone should go to bronx zoo. Kid friendly. Adult friendly. Good food and so much to see :)
Beautiful experience. Spring is the best time to come and visit. You get to see the blooming trees & flowers and there is less people.
AWESOME!!!! Staff & animals friendly & informative Spent 5hrs exploring even with many exhibits closed. Saw Rhinos up close.. Can't wait for gorilla, etc exhibitions to open
I am not a zoo fan in general, I don't like to see the animals locked up, it feels wrong. I was told that the Bronx Zoo is the best zoo. I was told I really should check it out. I was disappointed at the habitats they set up for most of these animals. I was led to believe they were wide open spaces with lots of room to roam around. In fact, they really were cramped and the spaces were not very interesting. I don't think I would be going back. The one plus side is that they do have several near extinct animals that don't exist in the wild any longer. So from a conservation perspective that is a good thing.
They need those mist sprays it s been yrs come on!!! Also a better route for those huge carts they take lazy and expensive ppl on when other visitors are trying to walk and enjoy their park too SMH
I miss the tram....but its still amazing going here
One of my favorite places to visit when my kids were younger. Now that they are older I look forward to taking my nieces and nephews. I feel like a kid every time I go
I had a wonderful time with the grandkids at the children's petting zoo.
Really really fun zoo! The World of birds was great, so many pretty animals, lots of great photo ops. The asia jungle monorail was also very very cool! And the staff working it were very knowledgeable about their animals! Definitely need a full day or more for this place! I'll definitely come back to explore the rest of it.
The traffic close to the entrance is terrible, takes me more than 2 hours for parking, never back
This is a wonderful zoo. Animals have plenty of space to roam especially on the monrial and in the congo where sometimes I have never seen animals in some areas of my 47 vists. They do have a little bit of a hard time re enforcing the mask mandate. Once they get more money it would be nice to see more Australian Animals like Kangaroos, Koalas, along with other animals like Cheetahs, and wolves (again) and maybe allow more multi-species exhibits epically since some herbivores like the Zebra and Gazelle (both kinds) which have seen each other through the fence for years. Honestly some zoos should be hated but not the Bronx zoo
Tip: I like to go on weekdays, during Cold and Hot weather when its not crowded If you must go on the weekend i recommend going to surrounding zoos NJ: Turtle Back Zoo NYC and LI: Any other WCS park
If you are looking to just have your toddlers in their strollers and want to experience the park for the first time, we went on the Free Wednesday. Most sections are blocked off for Free Wednesdays, but you can see all animals that are outdoors. We enjoyed the 3 hours there without paying.
Our daughters are 3.5 and 2years old. They enjoyed it and i would probably spend the money for a membership in a few years.
Fun time at the zoo, food and snacks are expensive might want to pack a lunch. Total experience pass is your best bet to see all the exhibits
Beautiful Zoo my favorite part the monorail i was awesome
The Bronx zoo, world famous, don't have to say more
What an amazing zoo. Great staff, cool exhibits and awesome animals. Such a wonderful urban oasis. Give yourself plenty of time, as there are a lot of great animals to see. The World of Birds was probably the biggest surprise.
Literally 70% of the zoo experience is an extra cost after you pay admission. Small animals like rats and reptiles, which looked unkempt, malnourished, and scared, were free to see and while they are cute, paying for anything else like butterflies or gorillas adds up quickly at $4-7 an encounter. It's a good walk on its free days though!!
Such an amazing zoo! Very clean and open. So many different animals to see and the environment of the animals is well maintained. It is a great experience for young children to see and learn about a variety of different animals. The children s zoo also offers a close up look at some of the animals as well. Definitely worth visiting!
Loved it! You need more than one trip to see everything.
Zoo's are a tough one, you always feel like a horrible person visiting one, and even worse when you actually have fun (with the kids). My 4.5 year old is completely crazy about this zoo, and we visited many times. It's absolutely huge and extremely well kept. A wide variety of animals and always something new to see. Food and stuff is average and what you expect from these types of places, just more expensive.
What an amazing place to visit. Whatever you might've heard about the Bronx, put it aside to visit the Bronx Zoo. Lions, Bears, and freaking Peacocks that roam freely within the Zoo. It's a short subway ride to E 178th and Boston Rd and a two block walk among some of the best roads in New York. We loved it and can't wait to go back. We came from Central Georgia.
I love the Bronx zoo and always have! A day at the Bronx zoo is always enjoyable!
One of the best zoos in the country. Don't miss the tiger enrichment. Save yourself some hassle and get the total experience ticket. All the exhibits worth seeing are an add-on.
Put your walking shoes on if you plan on seeing the zoo in one day and get there early. The zoo is open and spacious, staff is friendly, shops are full of good quality zoo souvenirs and friendly employees. Some of the animals are aloof and hard to see but nobody can do a thing about that. There's a LOT of birds here.
The sea lions are so much fun to watch during feeding.
Very good place for young children .childrens zoo was amazing
We just went there and the zoo did a great job with signa everywhere regarding social distancing and hand sanitizer available. You have to book your tickets online and i really like that because only a number of people can be inside at same time. You have to wear your mask and it's not a big deal for our family. We still enjoyed the experience. The kids were able to see more animals this time because it wasn't so crowded at every animal exhibit.
My home town zoo. Lots to see and explore. Can be exhausting after walking so much to see all the animals and exhibits but totally worth it!
Best Zoo Ever! There s so many places to go and there s so many animals to see!
The light show is great for the kids but there is a lot of uphill walking
It's not bad. I didn't see many animals though and I feel like there could be more interactive activities throughout the park
Great place to spend the day. Not a lot of animals in the winter, but that's to be expected.
Get the Web Family Plus package with Parking from the Bronx Zoo website. You will not regret it & you will save a lot of money. Just check how much the individual things would cost just for a single visit. This package is for a year for multiple zoos as well. After you park, count the rows until you get to the Zoo entrance so that you can find you car on the way home. Also take a pic of the gate that you pass thru so you know where you parked your car.
We've been members of the zoo for many years and love visiting with our kids. There always seems to be something new to do.
Aim to eat in the cafe during off hours or outside. The room echoes wildly.
Attended an evening event here with poor signage and even worse exit plans. Tried to exit at multiple exits and they were all locked. No communication and seems to be a safety risk. Would strongly not recommend this as an event space.
Didn't have high expectation entering this zoo. But to my surprise, Bronx Zoo is really amazing. The zoo is kept really clean. It offers so many animals that are so unique and endangered that you don't normally see at other zoos.
Always a fantastic family trip. You can save a few dollars if you take public transit or park on the street outside of the parking lots. Make sure you wear comfortable walking sneakers - the place is huge.
It was a great experience in the midst of this pandemic and everything. I was really concerned about the cleanliness and safety precautions. First of all, It was not overly crowded even though it was a Wednesday. And secondly, they had more than enough people to clean up and maintain the places where it needed attention. Wash rooms were very neat and clean, hand sanitizers everywhere! No complaints
Many animals and many picture taking opportunity s. And lots of fun. A very big zoo and plenty of room to explore. Many schools take trips and other programs visit here. Don t forget to get a map or it can be confusing especially if you want to visit the whole zoo. There are bathrooms just outside the zoo they are near the parking lot and close to where you pay and enter which is very convenient. This zoo has been around for a Long time and it has everything you need within the zoo there is a nice outdoor eating area to have lunch. To find the zoo from the road a good thing to remember is that it is the last exit before the Throgs Neck Bridge. Leave early because the zoo can get crowded. Something to keep in mind keep the flash off on any cameras when shooting animals.
Went here last weekend with my boyfriend and it was awesome! Wish we were able to see some giraffes though, but apparently giraffes only show up at particular weather conditions. :)
The best zoo I have been to. You can tell they take care of the animals really well and make sure they are comfortable.
One of the largest Urban zoos in North America, you would be hard pressed to see everything in one day. There are activities for everyone, and the proceeds are devoted to wildlife conservation and the world.
Grounds could have been cleaner. I saw several plastic shopping bags in various animal enclosures, not good when you're spreading the word on conservation. The animals were spectacular as always. Many peacocks roaming freely.
We had a great time, bit will never go agian on free Wednesday
Love the zoo would give a higher rating but the mobility scooter I rented broke and there was no replacement, had to cut our day short
What a disappointment, not at all what you would expect from a zoo that has it's own TV show on Animal Planet. I hope the entry fee goes to good cause in their efforts, because I certainly did not get my money's worth from the Zoo itself.
The Bronx Zoo was an amazing place to bring my 2 and four year old. It was so interactive and the Children s Zoo within the park was unbelievable. I would highly recommend it. Especially, in the fall with all the great Halloween and Fall activities they offer.
This really is a world class zoo, even if it is a bit dated. Easy to get to from the subway (We went to West Farm). We went on a Wednesday and bought the reduced price all inclusive ticket which was well worth it. Watch out for the black squirrels on the way to the zoo, I didn't even know they existed!
Recommended to visit. It was so good to see every animal & experience it all, a lot of information too.
There are no animals?!!!! All what we see a picture for graph a picture for tigers and lions. A lot of signs of don t enter.I feel so disappointed we spent more than $200 me and my family for the pictures.what a zoo!!!!
More interesting than the Bronx Botanical gardens. Come here on a summer Wednesday afternoon for free admission.
The animals were beautiful and we were luck to see so many. The monorail enabled us to see every animal in that area. The best part of the day was the Wild Animal Encounter with a cheetah. To be able to hear him purring and look into his eyes was amazing.
