Food, service and views impeccable! Had a great time for lunch....this would be a great spot for cocktails at sunset. Right in Poipu beach!
Awesome place. Super close to the beach making it easy to get food to go and bring back with you. The second floor open air seating is also great. Highly recommend the fish tacos or fish and chips. Mai Thais are awesome as well.
Delicious burgers and the BEST fish n chips we ever ate!! Very friendly service as well! The thing is the pineapple in the burger was hard as a rock..wasn't sure what I was biting into at first, other than that it was great, we visited twice in our 1 week stay. Would recommend and go again if we come back to the island. YUMMY!
Great food and service second to none!
We had an issue with our drink order which was our fault. The manager and our waiter went way beyond to make things perfect. Can't say enough.
I loved the atmosphere here. We went at sunset and it was a wonderful view. The food was also delicious. I would recommend their seafood dishes.
World famous Mai Tai's Lol, laughable. Nice service and friendly staff but worst food on the island. I won t go into detail but just trust me and stay away from this place. You re welcome.
Always our favourite place to eat on south shore. Fish tacos and ahi sandwich are the best!
Great location. Friendly staff. Loved the live music too.
Diner atmosphere with good appetizer and pitcher deals
Wonderful food, service, atmosphere and location. Family owned and operated and you can tell! The personal touch is everywhere. The location literally across the street from Poipu Beach Park is perfect for midday snack, lunch or dinner. Great sunset location as well. Very family friendly. Suggest the burgers, the fish tacos and the poke bowl. The waffle fries are to die for!
Very disappointing. Worst food we have had in Kauai by far.
Fantastic location I'm just not a fan of the bright lighting.
Made reservations for a Sunday, which is recommended. Great views of the park and beach. Food menu is kind of to be expected on any Hawaiian Island. Lots of fish tacos, clam pastas, etc. We had 7 people, drinks were flowing, waitress was kicking ass, it was a good dinner. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good food. It's not always easy to find, but I'd eat here again for sure.
It was nice having the open Windows looking out at the ocean and little Bay
OK drinks & food, too heavy on the sports theme, great tunes
Great location by the beach and hotels. I enjoyed the variety of menu options. Knowledgeable staff.
Not sure how this place gets so many 5 star reviews. The only 5-start quality about this restaurant is the location -beautiful views of the beach and the sunset. Cute outdoor location. The food quality is seriously lacking though. Mixed drinks were weak and watery, nachos looked like they were microwaved. We even ordered a menu favorite fish and chips and it was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Dry, over cooked, flavorless. I always take leftovers home and this is one of the first places I ve left almost my whole plate of food. My recommendation: get the views of the beach from the beach and avoid this place. Overpriced and crappy food.
Food was alright, pina colada pitcher was pretty weak and very sweet.
Food was fine and drinks were good. Casual not fine dining and reasonably priced. Mai Tai was good and famous.
Very funny when I paid with a credit card they asked for an ID. I had no problem with it but have been to literally 2000 restaurants and even dive bars and that s never happened before.
We went for an early lunch on Christmas Day. Nearly everywhere else was completely full with long waits. We happened to arrive here just as they opened so we got a great table by the window with no wait at all. Service was friendly and quick. Food was delicious. Too bad they couldn't fix the windy, rainy weather for us...but that's probably asking too much!
Overall a decent place. The service was very good, but the famous mai tai was just OK, the food was just OK, and the prices were high. I was slightly disappointed from a place that brags about its famous food and drinks.
Laid back joint for beach views, happy hour, and great sunsets.
When we saw $30-$40 per plate online, we expected a decent restaurant. This was an underwhelming diner. The food was okay but not worth the price. Would not recommend.
One of our favorite places on Kauai. The coconut shrimp are excellent, the view and atmosphere are wonderful, and the service always great. Parking can be tough.
It was great! We all had their world famous fish & chips! So good! The, also world famous, Mai Tai did not disappoint. Service was excellent! Definitely coming back & recommend!
Excellent food and wonderful service, as always, and don't forget the views.
Food wasn't great, not bad but not great. Had Opah and Wasabi Shrimp. Wasabi cream sauce was good but no flavor on the 2 shrimp unless they had sauce. $32 for a piece of fish, 2 shrimp and steamed broccoli. I hoped for more. The bartender is super fun to watch, she's fast and a multi tasker. Great location after watching the sunset.
Last minute trip to Kauai and stopped here after swimming and snorkeling. Super location with a view of Poipu Beach and constant flow of trade winds. Happy hour drinks and pupus were AWESOME! Seared ahi hit the spot. The waiter was really attentive. Gave me a kamaaina discount because... he just knew. Coming back with the gf in a few months.
They say they have some pretty good Mai Tai's here (over 1 million served!). But you can find much better drinks elsewhere. The happy hour is so so. Make sure you have a reservation because this place is popular. Staff are all very friendly and food is pretty good.
Lovely atmosphere overlooking Poipu beach and the Bartenders are amazing (awesome drinks, super fast, & friendly). The food is only OK, nothing to write home about, i.e. Entrees come with frozen veggies and my Chicken Caesar salad was kind of limp like it had been sitting under the heat lamp. Underwhelming for $20 you definitely come here for the vibe and atmosphere.
We had an outstanding experience in 2017 here and decided this year to make sure we fit in a trip to Brenneckes as well. Already knowing that this place is busy, we made a reservation in advance. We weren t seated directly at the time of our reservation, but 15 minutes wasn t an issue for us. We were seated by the window overlooking Poipu beach. The restaurant environment is awesome and staff is nice. After smelling steak while waiting, a few of us decided to order the New York steak and scallops. I order my steak at a medium, but the steak I received was as tough as shoe leather. It was even tough to cut. It was as good as eating a dry pot roast. The experience was underwhelming this time around. Brenneckes cooks a mean fish and the scallops were good, but I would ve hoped that if they had a $33 steak on their menu, it would be tender and delicious. I would come back, but I now know what not to order.
Friendly staff, good food and great drinks (especially the Mai Tai)
Horrible food !!very very very expensive it s a cool place to have a beer and just look at the beach .,,the fish and chips are horrible (burnt and dried out).the French fries were cooked in old grease ..we had a group of 10 with one child the bill was 900 dollars ..i have eaten at a lot of nice restaurants and casual restaurants here ..this place is The worst food ever ..no one enjoyed the food ..
Good place to get quick bites. Don't expect anything amazing. But the location is great as it is across the street for Poipu Beach. Hits the spot for shaved ice and has a good bar for ice cold drinks.
Food is not something I'd come here for but like I said slim pickings in this area if you don't want to drive/walk and are just looking for a quick bite and want to get back to the beach quickly.
Good for a quick bite and friendly people working there. Don't understand jokes, but it's no problem.
Finally cashed out my sandwich stamp card and started a new one! Thanks!
This place is a must visit! They were overwhelmingly busy and the food, drinks and service were still great. Everyone clearly works as a team and gets it done.
We love it here and ate here three times on last trip to Kauai. It s probably a little overpriced, but the food is consistently excellent and it s hard to beat the view and atmosphere. It s a great taste of island life. The beach it overlooks seems to be a favorite spot for monk seals and sea turtles.
I d recommend getting the nachos and/or garlic waffle fries with your meal.
Coconut shrimp is great probably best thing on the menue. Ordered a steak and it was not very good it was quite chewy this is mostly a bar but has table seating and you could bring children here but I wouldn't. Food was still overall good the shrimp made ho for dinner as it was very good. Highly recommend reservations. Staff was great very friendly and good service
Great waitress and good food and beer. It was crowded, I'd recommend a reservation if you're going at dinner time.
Love this place!!!! Upstairs seating has a beautiful view of the beach. Food is terrific fish tacos and Pu Pu platter is mandatory!
Very delicious place with great views of Poipu's Beach park. Sad to see the same fish plate go up over $10 in the last couple years.
Incredible views and atmosphere and right across the street from the beach. Even the fish in the fish & chips was FRESH. Service was pretty good too. Place is decorated tastefully with sports teams hats and jerseys. They do serve breakfast so a good place to pick up a breakfast sandwich to eat on the beach. Reportedly has live music on Friday and Saturday. I strongly recommend having at least one meal here.
Amazing food very attentive service
That Ono fish and chips wow
Seriously awesome
The food was great the drinks were amazing as well as the feel of the place. It's everything you want from a beachfront restaurant. Super casual and welcoming. One of my favorite places we ate on this trip!
Visited twice in two days. Great drinks, delicious and fresh seafood and killer beach vibe. I really liked the grilled Ono and my wife enjoyed her 1/2 pound (local beef) burger. Trip #2? I went with the same and she went with fantastic Ono fish and chips. Must- go establishment.
We come every time we go to Kauai. Has the best bloody marys! The nachos are excellent.
Very nice place, great service great food..But if u order Nachos beware there pull pork on nachos has BBQ Sauce on it..
Very poor service. Mixed up orders our waiter ignored us and the table next to us. So very sad. We were here 4 years ago and so looking forward to coming back. Another table said they were hungry so the came here but the service had gotten terrible.
Fun spot for tourists and the occasional local. The service is always friendly and the drinks are solid.
Staff ist friendly. Location great. However, food and drinks are mediocre and overpriced. Okay place. I will not return.
We loved this place 30 years ago, 15 years ago and now hope our kids, Ernie and Noel and their friends will find it to be just as great in food, service and location when they get to Kauai this week . Aloha!
Excellent casual dining with friendly, funny stuff.
Great spot with nice ocean views. Go for brunch or dinner. Went with kids - they can t get enough of this place! Staff are all friendly and always helpful. Recommend ahi tacos, beer battered fish and chips, and coffee ice cream. Yum!
Great Poke and good fish tacos with Ahi! Drinks looked like they could be a bit higher quality and could be a bit cleaner (floor was crazy sticky), but enjoyed the lunch stop! View is a bonus
Hour wait. Service was great. But, food was mediocre. I had the Mac Nut Mahi, which was okay. We also had clam chowder, beet salad and for crispy shrimp. Nothing special
We've been traveling to Kola, Kauai twice a year (Oct & Mar) for 12 years. It's a great escape from the Pacific Northwest's dark and wet winters.
We always start and end our stay with pitchers of mango pina coladas at Brennecke's. Watching the sunset with a warm breeze coming through the large open shutters is a good way to start and end our vacation on the Garden Island.
Oh, and the seafood is always fresh, well- prepared, and served to perfection. The prices are also very reasonable compared to "resort" restaurants.
We ordered cocktail with alcohol but we did not taste any.
Wait staff is prompt and provided great service! Get the ahi poke bowl for a great meal!
After walking around the beach, I went to Brennecke's for lunch and ordered a salad with chicken. After eating several bites, I saw a little green thing moving in my salad. It was a green worn about an inch long. I showed it to the waiter and he appoligized and blamed it on the local farmer they got the lettuce from and took it away. He then came back and asked if I wanted something else. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to make a scene and even though I was grossed out by it, I was still hungry so I ordered a hamburger. A woman, who I thought was a manager came over and appoligized to me. As I was eating the hamburger, I couldn't stop thinking about the worm in my salad. I asked for my check and paid for the hamburger and didn't leave any tip. I feel as a customer, we should be able to trust the restaurants to wash their vegetables well and make sure such thing never happens. Unfortunately, I was the one to experience this horrifying ordeal. I wonder how many people ate worms and not know it. I think the least they could have done was not made me pay for my meal. This experience has made me not wanting to eat out that has anything with lettuce again.
Menu was reasonably priced for having seafood & being so close to a touristy beach location. We lucked out with a table just walking in, but it gets busy at dinner so I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. Servers were very attentive & you can't beat the ocean-front views throughout the restaurant. All the mixed drinks were delicious.
Food was okay but over-priced. There are MANY better restaurants in the area. Staff is nice and it is close to the beach, so it is convenient. Mai Tai wasn t great even though it was their signature drink. That sorta sums the place up.
Great mid-priced fresh fish restaurant overlooking Poipu Beach. The Ono was perfectly cooked and one of the best pieces of fish I have ever eaten.
I didn't enjoy the fish and chips but that may have to do with Oho being drier and meatier than what I am used to... this is saying a lot since that is their most popular dish and I am typically a fan. It seriously bummed me out at the first lukewarm bite... There was no succulence or moisture to the meat once you cut through a decent batter.
The place otherwise is in a good location where you can overlook the ocean, so if you are in a mood to get a few drinks down, the atmosphere makes up for the food.
I just like it, it is a fun place full of flare. Like a family restaurant that you go to as a kid over and over again until you are old and cannot remember if you had a million Mai Tais or not...
What a great vibe! Bartenders are fun and upbeat, food was great and right across from the beach. What's not to love?
Great location, perfect for a great Mai tau and sunsets.
Try the poke! Served on a bed of rice with nuts & avocado! So tasty & fresh
This place is in absolutely beautiful spot and theres a lineup of tables looking right out at the ocean. We hopped in there for some drinks and apps and weren't overly impressed for the prices. The coconut shrimp had great flavor, but you literally get five little shrimp. The garlic waffle fries were a fairly good value. I'd suggest coming in here for happy hour (we were a little too early). But for a few drinks and apps we felt our bill was high compared to other places we went to on Kauai.
Delicious nut encrusted fish. Fun atmosphere. Loved the views!! Fun cocktail menu for both kids and adults. We loved the double bloody Mary. A Poipu experience includes a visit to this place.
