Great restaurant with lovely outdoors seating, partial view of the water. The restaurant manager was very accommodating with our reservation of 12 people. We had some drinks from happy hour and many appetizers. Tried the French onion soup, it was perfect and very visually appetizing. For main dish had the beef bourguignon, very tasty and tender meat. Would order the exact same dishes next time!

We have lived in Belmont for 4 years , having moved from SF and discovered this restaurant a year ago and had dinner. We were really hoping this would be a good med-finer dining option near us... We loved the atmosphere of the back patio on the water for diners and the bar patio but were so dissappointed in all other regards. We were forgotten by waitress most of the time and food was overly salted or off and we were not able to get the waitress's attention for so long that we never received drink refills and we had to leave a lot of our food uneaten - which NEVER happens I repeat NEVER happens (of course no comps for our major dissappointments.) We are so wary to ever try again (maybe the bar only) - too bad for Mistral b/c we spend quite a bit on going out to all kinds of restaurants weekly...

I rate Mistral Restaurant & Bar 4 of 5 stars. For full disclosure, my first visit to Mistral was a company related function and hence a large number of us dined from a special banquet menu. So, I can not comment on the regular menu. The environment was nice with Mistral set near the water in Redwood Shores. We enjoyed very good service including during our wine reception and then during the dinner service. Food was really good! The entire experience was very good and I've made a mental note to return to Mistral in the future. Yes, I am a fan.

Mediocre and expensive. I've been here twice for work and both times it was disappointing. Last time I got the chicken salad with fried chicken and greens. Greens were good, chicken was dry, over fried, and had been hanging out under a heating lamp for too long.

The bread that comes with the soup is really good. The seared scallop was cooked perfectly. My colleague ordered the sea bass and he said it was great. But the steak was not as good as seafood. The worst is they charged $9 for a bottle of VOSS water without telling us at the beginning. So we paid $130 for water for table of 16, we could have ordered wine instead.

My bf and I came here for a last minute dinner. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!
Calamari was not too oily for being deep fried.
Oysters were so good we ended up having two dozen
Lobster and risotto, no words! Will be coming back again just for this dish.
Chef clearly knows what he is doing. Mistral Restaurant and Bar

Waiter offered us drinks on the house after our meal and we respectfully declined. Then was sent home with a nice bottle of wine.
How nice right?! Definitely left feeling loved and cared for.
Can't wait to come back!

I've been here several times before for business lunches and dinners. Just celebrated a couple of Birthdays this evening and had a great time with family and friends. Entrees were delicious, portions were good-even enough for leftovers on some dishes. Sadly, I would not recommend the 'Crispy Calamari' because it was more like shrimp, artichoke, and slivers of calamari rings...not what we expected. Desserts were really good-Tiramisu and Creme Bulee. Bday celebrants got a the BEST dessert of them all..delicious Ghiradelli chocolate cake!

This place is unquestionably one of the finest place to eat in the area. Every time I come to this place I am absolutely happy. They manage their very high level service and the highest level of dishes they offer. You always win with this restaurant. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like this place. It's only 7 mins from my house and having a decent restaurant with a full bar so close would have been awesome.

Where to start. This was probably one of the worst dinning experiences I've had in a long time. Part of my low score comes from my expectations of a restaurant you pay $30+ an entree for. Was the food inedible, no, but I didn't pay Sizzler prices for what I would describe as Sizzler quality.

Drinks

I'm not too picky when it comes to drinks. I will finish a drink even if I don't like it, IF I recognize that my dislike is based on my personal taste (not a fan of darker liquors). I started with the sea salt gimlet which was like drinking sea water mixed with lime. So much salt it was undrinkable. I then went on to the Belmont '75 which was equally disappointing as it had a strange aftertaste that I can only describe as really stale cheap keg beer.

Main Course

Ahi Tuna with Prawn Tempora (+$6). They cover the tuna with what I had assumed was cheese (turns out it's something called Beurre Blanc) and then coat it with sesame seeds and top it off with two "tempura" prawns. I air quote tempura because it was more of a corn dog batter. Really the whole entree looked/tasted like it was designed by a Mid-West mom from the 80s (shout out to Beverley from the Goldbergs).

Service was mixed. We sat at our table for at least 10mins before I had to flag someone down to take our order. By then we'd finished off all the bread (which was pretty good). They forgot our appetizer and the initial waitress didn't seem too into her job except when trying to upsell me on the corn dog prawns. The second waiter was good (offered to get new drink, comped dessert for missing the appetizer etc) and genuinely seemed to want us to have a good experience. I tipped 20% since I didn't want to shaft that guy.

I really want to try again, but it'll never happen unless it's on business. There are way too many decent options within their price point in San Carlos and Redwood City.

I celebrated my birthday this evening in this great restaurant. I am glad to say that we passed a astonishing evening and the venue was absolutely the reason for the outstanding evening. The team helped in a lovely style, the meals were extremely good and my friends were very pleased. We shall no dout come back again for more joyful events. Thank you very much.

This place is close to a lot of corporate offices and tucked into a quiet corner with good views.
We were here for a corporate event and a pre-arranged menu. The service and food was great. The hors d'oeuvre and courses were all excellently done

I recently had my wedding reception at Mistral. They hooked us up with an amazing reception and cocktail hour. We were overwhelmed by everything they did to make our wedding so special. The cocktail hour hosted had an awesome view of the water. The staff was professional, friendly, and courteous. Everything about our reception was so special.
Our friends told us that the food was the best they had ever had at a wedding reception, the atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting, and walking in to the flowers, lights, and food just felt comfortable.
That is exactly the feeling we wanted our guests to have, and we re so grateful for all the hard work that was put into making our wedding reception so loving and inviting.

It's become our favorite Mother/Daughter special treat place. We usually get either martinis or margaritas but last visit we tried a delicious velvetty red wine to go with a homey artichoke soup and the beet salad.

Lackluster at best. We got filet mignon and skirt steak. Skirt was over marinated and undercooked. Was also too large of a portion. While that sounds weird, it also looked weird with a whole pound of steak on one small plate. Nothing was tantalizing enough to have cost so much. Thank goodness we had a gift card. This place has potential, but always disappoints with mediocre service and quality

We arrived just before the lunch menu changed to dinner. I had a delicious mojito, mushroom soup with truffle oil and fresh green salad I order an appetizer of bread which was the perfect amount to share and complemented the soup. The soup was delicious, creamy and a tasty way to warm up on a cold day. The view never disappoints We sat on the patio and barely noticed the patio is "open". There is a group area with a fire pit. My lunchdate has the Turkey sandwich and salad. It looked very fresh, and was confirmed to be delectable! The wait staff was delightful, charming, and kind. The "open gender" restroom was clean and attractive. I hope that I get a chance to come back after work with some friends to enjoy the generous wine list, or a martini at the firepit

Went there for an Art Reception, stayed for dinner. Had the sesame-crusted ahi with wasabi-mashed potatoes, and the Cesear salad - split both with the wife, along with a bottle of Talbot Pinot, and it was great!

I began going to Mistral Restaurant and Bar since 2000 when I worked at Electronic Arts. I came often for lunch, but the fun part is coming for Happy Hour (great Happy Hour menu and excellent happy hour wine and beer, and specialty drinks). Their menu is also very good and tasty. I am a creature of habit, and usually order the same thing - their bread and dipping sauce is a meal in itself so pace yourself - lol.

Fast forward to 2008, and Mistral Restaurant is under new ownership, GREAT vibe, Beautiful scenery of the lake and ducks from the patio which was remodeled - and an updated menu. I have brought many friends in for an early dinner and it's still our favorite place to meet up and catch up on our lives. I have also hosted many Meetup's in their private rooms which impressed the members of my Meetup's.

Mistral Restaurant is an excellent place for first dates; couples celebrating their milestones; for families (special menus for Friday and Saturday) and a great place to watch the sunset and check out the lovely stars.

I am a HUGE FAN of Mistral Restaurant and Bar!

I've eaten here twice this week. The Crab Cakes and Halibut special were delicious. Tonight I tried the Skirt Steak, and though it looked very appetizing, I thought it was extremely salty; I did not enjoy it at all. They have an extensive beer and wine menu.
