Visited Brenneckes during the summer for lunch. Tried the Mai Tai, Paniolo Burger and the Deluxe Burger. The burgers were delicious, thick and juicy. Perfectly cooked. The view from the restaurant is amazing. Friendly staff and fast service.

You know when you and your love are in Hawaii and you spend $200 every night on dinner??? Well, put a stop to the madness and head on over to Brennecke s for some relief! After fancying it up a few nights in a row elsewhere, I opened the menu tonight at the ole Beach Broiler and said... Oh cool! Bar food! :-/ Sorry for thinking that... because I totally misjudged this restaurant! We started with the Crispy Poke Tacos appetizer... delightful! I had the blackened ahi sandwich ($20) and my lady had the fresh fish tacos (I know two taco dishes in a row... what was she thinking?!?! Well, good choice, because they were great! ($20) This restaurant is at a great location on the beach and their T-shirt motif is pleasing to the eye. Stop by for lunch, happy hour, or dinner and I doubt you ll be disappointed. Your wallet with thank you too!

My wife and I decided to never go to the same place twice to eat on our trip to Kauai. However, after our first trip here we knew we had to come back for more of the delicious fish and chips. We also had a pulled pork burrito that was excellent.

I've had fish and chips made with halibut, cod, and now ono, and I think the the ono ones here are the best!

Decent food, friendly staff, but really pricey... $18 burgers, $18 salads, $12 appetizers, etc. The quality of the food does not match the prices. I think the prices are just high due to the area - lots of tourists who don't mind hemorrhaging money on vacation.

We stayed in a condo just up the street for a week. These guys were great neighbors!

We sat on our lanai and enjoyed their live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

We got coffee and yummy breakfast burritos in their deli after snorkeling at Poipu Beach Park in the mornings.

We got tasty deli sandwiches from their deli to take on our hiking excursions.

We treated ourselves to both lunch and dinner in the restaurant a few times and were never disappointed.

We enjoyed drinks, pupus, and their stellar view from the bar.
(Extra good: chicken satay, clam chowder, caesar salad, and ahi sashimi.)

Every member of their staff was friendly and full of the aloha spirit!

Thanks Brenneke's!

The worst service experience of my life. The waite...

The worst service experience of my life. The waiter couldn't stand still long enough to hear our order. In fact, left in the middle of our order to deliver plates to another table. We spilled a glass of water while he was at the table, he said "back in a minute" and we thought he had gone for a cloth. No such luck -- as the water dripped into our laps he was taking orders from another table. Finally the meal arrived and it turns out because my wife and my son ordered the same thing ( a burger), he thought they were sharing the burger. Dropped an empty plate in front of my son and disappeared for another ten minutes. When we confronted him with his mistake -- made because he wasn't paying any attention to us -- he copped an attitude rather than apologize. If you want to be treated like a human being, you should avoid this place.

The service at Brennecke's is always great despite always being incredibly crowded. The servers are attentive and always on top of an empty Mai Tai.

We went a few times while staying in Poipu, and I'd certainly recommend the Ahi Poke tacos, as well as the pulled pork burger. I'd recommend the latter if you spent all day kayaking and hiking (as that thing is massive).

The happy hour mai tais are always good, but I prefer the next-level option for $1 more.

Come for the sunset and thank me later. The food could be better, but wasn't bad by any stretch. Good beer and drinks selection, very friendly and cheerful staff, and overall a great quirky little place to listen to the surf and enjoy an evening.

The view isn't much and the food is expensive, but the atmosphere is great, the staff are great, and the food is more delicious than I was expecting! The ahi poke, ahi tacos, and kalua pulled pork sandwich were amazingly tasty!!

You can always count on great service, views, and food at Brennecke s! The restaurant is directly across from Poipu beach so depending on the time of day you can have an incredible view of the beach and ocean! My mother has been to the island six times and always raves about their clam chowder. They have classic seafood and land dishes, as well as a vegetarian section. I had a Put Da Like in Da Coconut martini which was delish. Not too sweet and the perfect amount of citrus punch. For dinner, I had the butternut squash ravioli in curry sauce. It was outstanding!

Dave was the best choice for catering for our wedding. We loved the food during our tasting and amazingly, the food on the wedding night was even better. He was one of the easiest vendors to work with and was highly accommodating and responsive. He was relaxed about the timing of the final guest count and provided us linens at a great price. The Chicken Roulade was delicious with the taro leaves providing tons of flavor. Months later, our guests were still commenting on how delicious all the food was. Note: the Brennecke s catering menu is a more refined than what you will find at the restaurant, which is crafted for those rolling off the beach.

Wedding Menu:
Passed Pupus:
Fresh Ahi Sashimi: Served with shoyu, mustard & pickled ginger
Coconut Shrimp: Coconut crusted fried shrimp served with creamy mango sauce
Thai Chicken Skewers: Served with peanut sauce & cucumber
Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms: Jumbo mushrooms baked with spinach and three cheeses

Dinner (Buffet style)
Garden Salad: Tossed lettuce with organic Omao greens, cherry tomato and carrots with your choice of two dressings
Classic Caesar Salad
Garlic croutons and parmesan cheese

Kalua Pork: Traditional Hawaiian imu style pork, served over seasoned wilted cabbage
Chicken Luau Roulade: Rolled chicken thigh stuffed with taro leaf and coconut, sliced with lilikoi cream sauce
Vegetable Tofu Stir Fry: Wok stir fried vegetables and tofu in Brennecke s Stir Fry Sauce
Potatoes Au Gratin: Potatoes cooked with cream and four cheeses

Go elsewhere if you re looking for quality food and service. Our waiter walked away from the table, without any warning, twice as we were ordering lunch. Literally, he just took off to service another customer or ask the chef an unrelated question. When he returned, he d ask us to repeat the orders we d just placed after he abruptly left. He was short and curt when we asked questions about items on the menu.

The food is of low quality - I ordered the Caesar Salad with ahi, which is listed on the menu as traditional , although the waiter confirmed that the dressing isn t homemade nor contains traditional ingredients (e.g. anchovy, garlic, egg, etc). I also questioned the freshness of the ahi and didn t finish eating it.

My husband ordered the ceviche salad. For an unbelievable $20, the salad was served with no more than 1/4 cup of ceviche on top of spinach. He did not finish the ceviche due to concerns about lack of freshness.

I would only recommend this place for a drink and ocean views. If you re looking for fresh food and quality customer service, try another spot on the island.

We went in and got Shave Ice because of a coupon in one of the tourist books. The peach, mango, passionfruit Shave Ice with vanilla ice cream was delicious. The two servers where kind and courteous. I would recommend you add this stop to your South Shore tour.

The view was great. The fish tacos were horrible, the tortilla wasn't even toasted. If you want a good burger however, the kid says it was pretty good. If you are looking for fish taco's, this isn't where I would go.

Upstairs dining (there is an elevator near the back of the building), very open air feeling but completely covered. We shared the Kalua pork nachos, that I wouldn't recommend, and the fish and chips that I would definitely recommend! The nachos slightly cooled into a mass that was difficult to eat (I've never had that problem before.). The fish and chips, one of their more popular dishes, was two pieces of Ono fish. Very mild and meaty. I was a bit surprised when the plate was brought to the table with only 2 pieces of fish, but they are thick cuts of Ono and I could only eat one piece! It's served with garlic Parmesan fries... Really Good!! I would go back again, just skip the nachos next time. It's definitely casual, and has good, friendly service.

The service and atmosphere were spot on! We were dining with our 17 month old son and the waitress gave him a toy that captivated him for most of the meal! Brilliant! We are actually going to purchase one like it for his go bag! The food was good although we didn t have seafood which is probably great considering the location. We got there in time for happy hour so we shared a picture of banana strawberry colada s which were great except a small wooden stick they use for garnish got blended in with the mix and I ended up with a splinter in my gums when we got to the bottom of the picture! Fortunately I had tweezers in my bag and was able to quickly remedy the situation with a trip to the ladies room. We alerted our waitress to the situation and they offered to comp us another picture or a desert since we had already paid our bill. We would definetly eat here again.

The food and drinks here were good, and location was fabulous, but what is the coolest thing about this are the photos on the wall showing the building after Hurricane Iniki. Check those out. It shows what that hurricane did to the island, which is incredible.

Great fast service, food is good. On our first visit, we arrived before the lunch time rush and got a window seat which was nice with the breeze. The second time it was busy and we sat at the bar - watching the bar tender whip the orders was impressive, she had next-level multi-tasking skills - we were in awe.

The first time I went here was in 2012. The food has been amazing from the start. They have a wide variety of foods to choose from. They have a very nice view of the beach and I would highly recommend their lava cake as a dessert.

Jazmine our server was great! She got nachos started quickly for hungry boys and also expedited our orders as every table in the place filled. My wife's bacon burger was really good. My daughter-in-law's poke bowl was very good. My grandson had a good cheese burger. Unfortunately the fish and chips were overcooked and dry aas were the shrimp. It's convenient to the beach though!

It really is tough to beat the ambience at this place. Situated across Poipu beach, this restaurant provides respite from the heat that can sometimes overwhelm the south shore, especially in the summer months. It also has unbeatable sunset views. It does tend to be pricey, but being the only big restaurant in the area does allow them to command such a price. This also means that this place can get very busy. The staff however are very friendly and do try to get you a table as fast as possible. Mahalo.

We really enjoyed this place. We tried a few of the mocktail non-alcoholic drinks, Monkey Sea Monkey Do, Strawberry Mango Colada and one other and they were all very good. The service was also excellent. The food was pretty good too. I tried a burger. It's pricey so not sure the price of the burger matched what it cost but we still enjoyed our time here. We had a birthday in our group and they brought a large piece of ice cream cake that was excellent (it was coffee flavored in case you don't like that).

Been here several times over multiple trips to Kauai. Love this place. Its been great every time. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Fun to watch the ocean view. Everything we ordered was great. We had clam chowder, Ahi sashimi, milkshakes, specialty cocktails, fish entrees, fish and chips just to name a few. We had a party of 7 and I loved that I could use open table to make a reservation. Will return for sure!
