We didn't have a good experience. Though we booked 2 months earlier the room was underground and the bathroom had no bath for our children. Customers deserve better in this kind of hotel.
The rooms were nice, restaurant service can use improvement.
I got locked in the bathroom and it took 20 minutes for a manager to free me. Generally poorly maintained rooms and terrible hairdryer.
Great building outside with big rooms inside but with some small problems. It needs a renewal process asap
Parking was terrible, lucky to get a spot. Room itself was freezing cold, despite trying to adjust the temperature settings. Room was made up for 1 person even though it was booked for a couple--1 key card, 1set of towels, 1 bathrobe, 1teacup. Service at breakfast was non existant, we were shown to a dirty table after waiting 15mins to be seated and told there was no clean ones available and to wait until someone came to clean it-which we ended up doing ourselves. No cutlery or service for tea for another 20 minutes and possibly the most disgusting scrambled eggs I've ever tastes. Checkout was extremely slow, staff only seem to have 1 speed in this hotel and are not very friendly. Didn't even ask if we had a nice stay, just not interested. Lifts are shabby and slow.
Enjoyed our stay there in 2019. Highly recommend. Thank you so much. Attentive staff and comfortable accommodations.
Very good breakfast, attractive prices for room service and it's worth.
Clean and stylish.
Overall perfect but superior rooms need to be updated
Other hotels in same price category were more luxurious
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Lovely hotel steeped in history.
Very poor service in the bar. Tables left with dirty plates and glasses. Won't be going back to bar again.
i was staying in the hotel for my brothers wedding. the room i stayed in, the draft excluder above the door kept falling down everytime the door was opened. stains on carpets. laundry bags constantly left in hallways. had to wait too long for food or someone to even approach me with a menu so we went elsewhere to eat. no atm in the hotel and no cash back. i had to run to the adjacent hotel for money as otherwise the residents bar where automatically charging it to the bride and grooms room, which made no sense. i mixed my room up with another on the fifth floor and the keycard opened the door which under privacy and security, was a disgrace. i walked in on people having sex and felt awful about this. there was no attention to detail or proffesionalism by staff
Great building with new refurbished rooms. The breakfast is also very good.
Very nice hotel, converted from a convent, building full of character, very good breakfast, lots of options, area very close to British and American Embassy. Lots restaurants nearby.
Not a 4 star hotel in my opinion interior is very dated. Breakfast was below average. Staff were friendly. Stayed here because of the beautiful building, disappointed.
Very pleasant stay in comfortable surroundings. Excellent breakfast.
Nice hotel, we stayed there when there was a little bit of construction going on but it didn't interfere with our stay.
Very nice hotel and the restruant was nice. Parking is expensive though
Very friendly helpful staff.. Clean lovely room.. And tasty food
Impozant building, with own history, big beds and very confortable, great place to stay
Historic building, restaurant and bar well framed in the main building, large garden and comfortable rooms
Hygiene in 2 of the 4 rooms 321 and 323 was poor. The beds were only pulled, they were not made, a paper that remained inside a bed continued, there was blood on the duvet and the double bed sheet and the floor was not vacuumed. Very bad The cleaning is terrible.
The reception staff was absolutely incompetent, they didn't solve any situation, they charged for the first day's breakfast when the chekin was made at 4.10 am ... they didn't correct the situation, even to call us a taxi and other guests were complaining because they didn't that they managed to solve, a lot of confusion with the distribution of the rooms, a lot of incompetence. There is no justification for this situation.
The Hotel is very good but the reception and room staff are not good ... it sucks. Except for the restaurant employees ... breakfast and dinner where everything went smoothly.
We will take steps to complain on search engines and other sites.
Had a great stay in the Clayton Hotel. Brilliant location, lovely clean rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Nice building. Reasonable price. The shower was tilting. Couldn't stay one temperature.
Very clean and it was a great place to stay in Dublin. Had very good breakfast and service! Showers were nice and warm :)
At a wedding we attended recently everything was lovely. In general the food was good but the main course was cold. I asked the server if I could get the food heated up and she took the plate away. The girl returned with the plate piping hot but the food was still only luke warm. I was not the only guest who had this problem. It's something that needs to be looked at for the future. The staff from reception to the restaurant and everywhere else were excellent and very helpful. Lilian our server was particularly helpful and pleasant
My stay at the Clayton Hotel was a very pleasant experience. The staff was super attentive and went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. The lobby, halls and room were very clean. The included breakfast had a wide variety of choices. They recently renovated and installed new rugs in the hallways so there was a strong "new rug" smell but I am sure that will dissipate as time goes by. I needed an electric adapter and someone from the reception desk promptly brought one up to me. I was having a problem getting it to work, and they came back up to my room to help me. They were also very accommodating in helping me with transportation to and from the main city center. Surprisingly, the cost was much less than the other hotels in the area. When I return to Dublin, I will definitely use this hotel again.
My husband and I needed a hotel close to Sandymount so after looking at our options, we chose the Clayton Hotel, not knowing that it is the former Beweley's. Staff were very helpful upon arrival. We were given early check in which was great because of the jetlag. We called down for an extension cord, then a fan and staff came straight away. The bar staff were exceptional.
Excellent staff, new image since I was here last and quite funky. Had dinner which was excellent too with a very knowledgeable maitreD
Spectacular! Beautiful hotel! I was able to park on the street for being Saturday. At 100 meters there is a bus stop to downtown (3 euros per person).
Lunch - had a lovely lunch in the bar very reasonably priced. Plenty of seating. The only downside was the very slow and disjointed food delivery. A sandwich and two bowls of soup took over twenty minutes. Bar not busy so no excuse for slow service
Unfortunately, cannot recommend this hotel at this price until repairs are completed (due later 2018). Wish I had read the comments on this before booking!
- Very old dated rooms (considering the price) but very clean.
- Woken up at 8 am to drilling and banging above (renovations take place on a daily basis it seems) I've never ever complained about a room but couldn't hear myself talk - called the front desk where they apologized and it wasn't due to to start till 9am and they would call to stop and offered a later checkout. Unfortunately it didnt stop and had to checkout because it was so noisy.
Good hotel but they got rid of some amenity's . good staff. Bar food needs Improving Worth trying.
Stayed here for work - the pillow had what looked like blood on them, stains on bedding and thick dust on many surfaces. There was also several long hairs in the bath and sink. When I brought this to the receptionists attention, she said she would pass this on to accommodation department but nothing was done about it. We stayed for 2 nights in the room in this way. At breakfast, there was no bacon or baked beans and no one offered tea or coffee. (waiter said someone would) Also after making payment, a retention fee was taken from my card which has not been returned as of yet. Location is great for rds and there is nice restaurants nearby but so many elements let this hotel down which is a real shame as it has the potential to be super
Nice hotel with helpful staff. Construction in progress during my stay. Breakfast was OK but I did not like the dinner I was served. Waiter was rude and impatient. No air condition which was unfortunate since the weather was very hot.
Good hotel. Reasonably priced restaurant. Don't have a gym.
Better when the hotel has hotel water upstairs and down. There were shortages during my stay.
Customer service is 5 star but they're rubbish beds. On every single floor, I know because I checked. Best beds apparently level 2. If you're young and fit it'll be grand, but if you've any back issues or any disability (like I do) I wouldn't recommend it. To the Clayton come on it's nearly 2018 get some decent mattresses to match new building and new refurbishment for 2018
Nice hotel, big rooms, very good service and great stuff, not near the city center, hop on hop off bus passing near the hotel, close to train center and business center
The rooms are beautiful, the food very good, the service is excellent and has a lovely garden at the entrance
I stayed at the hotel on a business trip. My room was very noisy with drilling and banging when I checked in. I presumed this was temporary and went out for dinner. When I returned the corridor was filthy with dirty footprints and dust flying all over. I went down to reception to complain and that told me they do not clean so I have to deal with it. I asked about noise the following morning and they told me nothing before 9 am. An even greater amount of noise began at 7 am the following morning. No cleaning had taken place. I insisted on a room change and was permitted this. I went out to work while this happened and was given a better and quieter room. During the transfer my laptop charger went missing. I understand this may have been my fault for leaving it out of my bag. However over 24 h after reporting it I have received no communication from the hotel - not even a message to say that can not find it. I stay in many hotels for both business and personal purposes. This is the worst place I have stayed in the past few years. I strongly recommend to look elsewhere.
Truly a great place, the only drawback was we had a room with a shower without a curtain !!!
The hotel is located to a very tranquil and good neighbor, with good access to the city center, as well as to the airport (by bus). The reception's personnel was kind, professional and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and cosy.
Comfortable enough hotel but lacking a couple of basic features such as no fridge in room and the lack of assistance in getting luggage to and from rooms.
Very comfortable and convenient, Staff are ace too!!
The staff is very friendly, helpful and accommodating, especially with answering questions about how to get about in Dublin since it was our first time. Beautiful area of the city, very close to the train and on the bus route. Rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet. We highly recommend.
Historical building, friendly staff, cozy rooms. The equipment may be a little dated (especially the toilet flush buttons which tend to break), but it gets fixed the same day you tell about the issue.
P.S. best checkout approach i've experienced so far. Thanks for making it quick and convenient!
Very happy with our stay. Clean room . Great staff, ready to help. Will come back again.
Nice hotel in Dublin going through renovation at the moment
very nice hotel, the interior is upscale and the staff very friendly. Even as a young adult, they felt taken seriously. the rooms were clean and well equipped, we had a large bathroom with a bathtub. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel with buses going in different directions
First, how fun it it to stay in a historical building? I really liked how they repurposed what was once an orphanage from Dublin's past into a quality hotel. We chose to stay outside the Dublin core so that we could have a quiet place to retreat to after busy days sightseeing and were not disappointed. The hotel is right on the major bus lines, so it's just a quick bus ride into the center for sightseeing, pub-hopping, touring, and shopping. We chose to eat both nights at the the hotel - one night in the restaurant and one night in the pub. Food was excellent both nights. We were driving around Ireland and had a car - no problem, there's a car park right under the hotel with direct elevator access to room floors. Be sure to check at the desk to trade in the ticket you take from the entry machine for a special discounted exit ticket for guests. The only issue we had with the room was warmth. We were there in August, so it was not terribly cold outside which tended to heat the rooms up. There was a window but it opens only a bit (for security purposes, we assumed), so the room did tend to get a bit stuffy during the night. Without air conditioning, there was really little the hotel could do to remedy that, but we found that keeping the curtains and window open while we were out went a long way to cooling down the room. For Americans, I should note that feather-free pillows in Ireland are foam and are not soft. This is not the hotel's fault - we found this everywhere we stayed in Ireland. So, if you can't use down and like a soft pillow, you might want to think about bringing your own. Overall, the room was impressively clean, comfortable, and stocked with amenities. Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay at the Clayton Ballsbridge when we visit Dublin again.
Close to local transit services, nice comfortable rooms and beds would recommend
Hotel was nice, glasses were dirty when having dinner in the restaurant. Parking was very expensive.
The building and rooms are beautiful. The staff was so kind and extremely helpful. It made our stay in Dublin most pleasant. It's a place we will always want to return to. Although it is a distance from the city center, there are many 4 modes of transportation that you can take from the hotel to get to the center quickly. Again, I must stress how helpful the staff was with our every request!
Spent the night here with my partner, the room and hotel was lovely the hotel staff treated us well, however the staff in the bar downstairs were inattentive leaving us waiting 15 minutes to be served , when paying my card had declined due to a bank error and a member of staff felt the need to announce this louder than necessary in a rude manner, I settled the bill and left but felt that we were treated in an unprofessional manner. This ruined the experience of drinking in the hotel bar.
Fantastic location if you're in town for a concert or event at the RDS.
Really interesting historical buildings, good comfortable room sizes and breakfast is great value
Very nice rooms, friendly staff, good restaurant, nice part of town.
Hotel was lovely. Service left a bit to be desired but I would return
We are a couple in our seventies. We visit Dublin from time to time for hospital appointments in the Ballsbridge area. We found the Clayton to be CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, & CONVENIENT. The bar food was good, and the breakfast was excellent..The breakfast staff were hardworking very helpful (we both have strict medical dietary restrictions) and extremely courteous. Our only small grouse is that the front of house staff could have been a little more welcoming. We look forward to visiting next year when we might be able to sneak in a second night.
Car park is very tight and bad layout. Plus after spending so much on the hotel and in the hotel. You have to pay for the parking.
My mother, husband, our four children and myself absolutely loved the hotel. The most beautiful, luxurious hotel we have ever stayed in. The grounds were beautiful too. Everything was spotlessly clean. All of the food was delicious. It's hard to find a hotel to accommodate our large family request without breaking the bank and we struck pure gold with you. All of the staff were incredibly polite and helpful. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. We didn't want to leave and I'm already thinking of returning. We have all recommended you to our friends and family. Keep up the good work.
Great room - fantastic breakfast - good location - was here on a business trip for 3 nights, didn't eat here in the evening so not much more I can say about it. No issues recommending it.
Lovely traditional old building with very pleasant staff.
This was a lovely building inside and out, though the rooms were dated in a way that came across as very boarding school dorm - not what I would call spacious. The staff was incredibly helpful and pleasant. I will say, as a tourist, this was not convenient to explore downtown. We had to take a bus or taxi every time we needed to go to and from the hotel - coins only for the buses as they would not except paper Euros. One negative was the food in the dining room. We ordered lunch on arrival, service only slightly better than the food - which was not good at all. None of our group of 4 enjoyed their food and therefore opted not to partake in breakfast or dinner during the rest of our stay. Overall, the rooms could have been nicer and windows that opened more fully to allow cool air in would have been much appreciated.
