This place is good for staying while on business I stay here regularly as the rooms are fairly big, clean and the service is good especially the breakfast team. Oh and the view from the restaurant is amazing.

We brought our 2 adult sons and their families here for 3 night Sun 23rd Aug 2015 and it was great. Maria on the desk booked us in efficiently with a welcome smile and manner. We later met Asst Manager Juan Suarez who organised a change of room from a noisy part of the corridor to a quieter area for one of us and later ensured that our whole party including our 3 yr old grandson enjoyed their dinner. Each time we met him he treated us with polite, professional friendliness. Breakfast was helped along by Vicky with tables that gave us glorious views over the lakes but didn't disturb the other guests. The weather was awful but we walked in the grounds around the lakes between the rain and then enjoyed the pool and 10 pin bowling alley at other times.

Terrible experience. We visited for an 80th birthday dinner and had the worst dining experience I've ever had. We had pre ordered the food and weren't asked about drinks. Our starters arrived at which point we had to ask to order a drink which eventually came AFTER we had finished dinner and even that took a lot of chasing up and complaining. Craig, the restaurant manager, is an absolute joke. He can't run a reasonably quiet restaurant and has a terrible attitude. Don't make the mistake we did and avoid!

Stayed just for a night on business. Room was a fair size, clean and very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and polite. Breakfast is buffet style with tones to choose from and all good quality. Only real criticism is the shot glasses provided for the juice

We stayed at Hellidon Lakes recently and did not have a pleasant stay. The overnight package we selected had breakfast, lunch, dinner and a treatment for each of us. With each part of the package there were issues.

The next day, during breakfast - the only option was the hot buffet, or additional priced items. With the hot buffet, half of the items were cold (mushrooms, scrambled eggs) and there were no sausages available. When asked, the waitress said the chef isn't doing any more sausages. There was still half an hour before the end of breakfast so we were quite shocked that they would not do any more sausages.

We had pre-booked the lunch, and it arrived at least 15 minutes later from when we arrived. There was no one else at the restaurant at the time, so it was odd that we had to wait for this long on a pre-booked meal.

Lastly, the "massage" that we had booked in was verging on ridiculous. The first part of our massages included a back massage. For about 20 minutes or so, it just felt like they were rubbing oil all over the back, rarely any pressure was applied (and when it was, it was awfully painful as we had asked for soft massages) and it honestly felt like they were unsure of what they should be doing. My partners massage then went on to legs and feet, which was unpleasant for her as the pressure applied was too much and painful, and left her feeling tense. Mine went on to a facial (although the package said "face massage") and scalp massage. Whilst the facial left my skin feeling soft, there was less than 15 seconds of scalp massage at the very end.

In the showers in the female changing rooms for the pool, my partner used 3 different showers and each one had lots of hair around the sinkhole which was causing the water to backlog - which was an unpleasant experience for my partner to shower in.

All in all, we did not enjoy our stay there and have left feeling tense and far from the relaxed feeling that we had intended when booking this.

VERY popular with golfers.
The hotel decor really needs a refresh.
Maybe we're not the typical clientele, but to me this place is just old fashioned. And worn round the edges

Hotel is set in a marvellous location with stunning views. The service was excellent and room was spacious and well appointed. Dinner in the restaurant was nice and when there was a mix up with the orders the waitress gave us our side order on the house to make up for it. No issues other than how boiling the rooms were but not much you can do about that in a heatwave!

Spa looking a bit tired...but if you get a deal, it's ok.

Visited the spa again this week (last visit was a few months ago. Top marks for scones and the treatment (back massage and facial). Lower marks for the swimming pool (it was quite chilly), the Jacuzzi (a bit small for the number of guests using the facilities). I didn't use the steam room. Changing room had good size lockers, but dated showers.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and had a spa treatment too. Location is the highlight, can't fault the views and surrounding areas for walks. Facilties and rooms are nice but a bit tired.

Loss of one star for the spa facilities, lots of condensation on the ceiling around the pool (cold drips falling on you while relaxing isn't the best!), sauna, pool and jacuzzi a bit scruffy. Shared spa area also got very busy on Saturday - making the jacuzzi and sauna rammed.

Overall a pleasant stay but think a few areas need a bit of work to justify some of the prices.

This hotel is good for a romantic/relaxing getaway. My girlfriend and I booked in for 2 nights to use the spa and celebrate our anniversary, upon checking in it became clear that there would be a very high standard of service. Sam the lady on reception was exceptionally helpful, smiling and treated us with the upmost professionalism. Our room was lovely with great cleanliness. When visiting the spa we were disappointed that even though we had treatments booked and intended to use the facilities throughout our stay we were not entitled to a robe each, I raised this with reception and they quickly found us a solution. We ate a couple of times in the hotel, whilst I would suggest the room service options are avoided (we were rather disappointed with the cheese board and price of drinks) I would suggest a visit to the restaurant as the food standard dramatically improves. Again we observed a high standard of service another specific mention for our server Olli who was friendly, appropriately sociable and obviously knew how to do his job well. The spa itself is small however the treatments are excellent, I would recommend the hot stone massage. Overall there are some faults with the hotel but the staff more than make up for any failings, they have ensured our repeat custom.

We had a fabulous golf break with friends. Everything was superb from start to finish. Hotel, food, service and golf course were all excellent. I can't rate Hellidon Lakes high enough. We'll definitely be back for a return visit.

My husband and I wanted a quiet place to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have chosen better. Not only do the amenities and the beautiful location make for a relaxing stay, the staff is so wonderful going above and beyond to help make it a memorable one. Upon arrival, they upgraded our room, at no extra charge. Then after a delicious dinner when server, Hayden, found out it was our anniversary, he brought out a special dessert totally unexpectedly (I have shared the photo).

Awful, completely ruined our wedding.

Awful, completely ruined our wedding.

Would be zero stars but can't choose that option.
Wedding breakfast was nothing like the one we had a the menu tasting. Lamb was so fatty it was disgusting. Cheese cake was completely different, again nothing like the beautiful delicate one at the tasting.
It took an hour after desert was served for the glasses to be filled for toasts. When I complained, I was told well these things take awhile and we are only 15 minutes behind.
We then started the speeches while they were still filling glasses as it was taking so long. Some guests didn't have a drink to toast with until about half way through.
Evening guests had begin to arrive and come into the room.
All staff then disappeared, guests were getting restless, so my husband and I had to announce what would happen next. There was no master of ceremony provided but a girl in a hellidon t shirt, who sometimes announced when she was around. Serious lack of staff and professionalym.
I went up to bed and realised I hadn't taken the post box out of the room, so went back to get it and found the box had been emptied all over the table.
This was supposed to be a secure place to keep wedding cards that could contain money. I was very angry as these could have gone missing.

Our bridal suite was dated and had a chair in the room full of holes and scuffed. It was horrible.
There was a constant knocking noise coming from the bathroom.

Absolutely ridiculous ruined the whole day for my husband and I. We complained to the manager that was on site on the Sunday. They will get back to us Tuesday but I don't see them doing anything about it. They have had their money now. What do they care, we waited 19 years for this day. It was so important to us.

Gym member. For some reason management has decided to play very loud and thumping techno music from speakers. Why? Other members agreed with me to turn it off. This was mid morning when most are older members. Perhaps for a younger crowd in the evening this is ok but it should be what the majority at the time want.

The gym should be run for the benefit of the members not the gym manager. Have reduced rating to two stars.

A good overnight stay. Food in resteraunt of good quality. Bed comfy, room clean. Shower good and powerful. Breakfast nice. My only thing is the room is a bit dated and needs investment to bring it into line with the approach this hotel is marketing itself towards. Highly recommended.

Lovely grounds but that's about where it stops. The whole place looks dated with old decor and fittings. During the winter thing may not be as bad but in summer, with no AC and beds with thick duvets, it's nearly impossible to sleep. Food wasn't much better. All over cooked and dry (both the buffet lunch and set menu in the evening). Staff were nice at points but all seemed to have different ideas around what was going on.

Nice surroundings right in the middle of the countryside. Rooms are what you'd expect with a flat screen TV (on the small side & freeview only), kettle for tea & coffee, ironing facilities, but are somewhat tired and probably due a refurb. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Due to the rural location the mobile signal is very patchy but there is free WiFi throughout.

The staff are brilliant here, really welcoming. The rooms are adequate but really clean. The rounds are vast so great if the weather is nice. Got a decent gym, the pool and spa area is ok and they got bowling, which is cool. Would stay here again

Normally Google only allows 1 review per me account per place. Its given me a second go, so just to be clear if it wasn't the first time... AVOID. Stay or play golf elsewhere. Complete muppetry and baffoonery from this lot when we stayed, ruined our friends wedding night. Give them a refund!!!!

The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful however the hotel itself seemed dated and tired.
The bar area underneath the main bar which looks out onto the 18th hole was very dirty and tables hadn't been cleaned as were sticky to touch.

The reason for my visit was to play golf with friends over the weekend. The golf course does look good however the upkeep of the holes were not great and this could have been due to the weather.

When I spoke to the the staff in the golf shop they weren't interested.
Sadly we won't go there again even if it was free.

Rooms were roasting and supplied with the most pathetic fans. My steak was burnt to a crisp and so were the chips. Dessert was disgusting. The gym is in a random layout of rooms and the equipment was last refreshed in 1890.. Staff were nice but this isn't a 5* resort it's maybe 1 at a push.
