While Wild Dunes Resort is located nicely outside Charleston, it is a massive mass resort with the purpose to squeeze $$ out of customers. We were a bit disappointed to find that the rooms are Motel or henhouse like; windows can t be opened and were leaking during the rain. The property and facilities are somewhat run down and the two tiny pools for kids are not sufficient on a busy weekend. We would have liked to have a good selection of decent food, instead we went to the shops nearby.

On the positive side: staff is very professional and friendly and tends to go an extra mile.

Ps: While I am writing this it s important to note it s the Easter weekend so this may explain some of the large crowds in this resort

Took my son and his friends there to have a Halloween party. First my booking got messed up. Then upon check out they tried to over charge me and the man assisting me was very rude and wasn't going to fix the problem. While handling my issue I over heard at least 3 others over charged. The beds were like sleeping on cardboard. There was a fridge but no microwave. We stayed one day and at 9 am the maid walked in and woke us Up! She should have waited until check out instead of bothering my 3 sleeping children. For the price you pay you should have pure luxury, I would of been better off at the Holiday Inn! Only positive thing was a beautiful beach.

The first time around last year was great and ever...

The first time around last year was great and everyone really went above and beyond service-wise. Being from a shore resort town and having worked in the hospitality industry I can definitely notice and appreciate those things. This being my second stay, I would say there were things that needed to be addressed if only to inform management of these issues.

Cons -
1. Check In was a bit inconvenient as we had been given the wrong room key type - after a long day of travel this was less than thrilling.
1a. Also I'd like to mention that upon arrival to the parking gate we were greeted by a very rude individual who was not welcoming at all; which was very disheartening as guests are the #1 reason why his job (or any resort employee for that matter) exists.
2. There was a missing item from our In Room Dining (Breakfast) order that had been clearly marked on the door card. This was just forgetful (I was not charged for this however)
3. **This was unacceptable - one of our bath towels had several spots of blood on it!! This was absolutely disgusting & unsanitary.
4. We had been bridging 2 reservations because we arrived one night early prior to an engagement on resort grounds. So prior to arrival we asked to be placed in the same room for the entire stay. Well you might have thought that we were asking the staff to do the most difficult task. On the 2nd morning of our stay I received a phone call while we were out that we were to change buildings that day. So we dropped what we were doing and headed back to pack all our bags. -after a huge confusion down at the front desk and another phone call, we were then told that our room would stay the same. So I wasted valuable vacation time trying to remedy a situation that the staff was notified about months in advance and failed to prepare for.
5. On our way out we headed to the club room to obtain some photos of our event that were being printed and was greeted by a very rude woman in an empty room who told us we should have gotten there before check out. What a lovely way to thank us for our business!

PROS:
1. After setting our bags down the first night and heading down to the bar, we were served by Dennis, an excellent, friendly bartender who really deserves recognition. The waitstaff at the restaurant there are absolutely stellar.
2. Michael at the front desk was the only hotel employee who was actually nice to us and seemed like he wanted to take care of our room switch situation. A friendly man.

I do enjoy wild dunes as a whole - location, look of the hotel and resort are all nice. But they have to work on their customer service or risk many more reviews like this one. With that said, I thank those who went out of their way to make our stay a more enjoyable one.

Different units widely differ in standard and standard of care. We've been to a very run-down unit which was smelly unclean and very unpleasant and then were moved to a fantastic unit which was a dream. There's no room service in these units. The service was helpful and attentive when we asked to move and the coastal restaurant was pretty good.

This was a huge disappointment! I was led to believe it was right on the beach to find condos blocking the view. The AC unit and the fan/light in the bathroom sounded like a 747 coming in for a landing. The walls were thin allowing us to hear the party going on next doid instead of getting some much needed sleep.

They came into the room to turn down the sheets. They turned the TV on and left it on in an empty room. What a waste of energy.

The staff seemed aloif. I will not be returning.

We live in the Charleston areaand this is one of the only resorts close in proximity. The resort is great for families and most of the staff is very friendly. The organization of staff is extremely disorganized and chaotic. Check in is always a nightmare, our luggage was misplaced for an hour, room service was a disaster, it took an hour for housekeeping to bring towels and it took three phone calls for a manager to call me back. They also charged the wrong credit card after confirming twice with them. Our stays have not always been so unpleasant, but this last one takes the cake.

Been going to Wild Dunes every year for almost 20 years. Lots of activities with great beaches, golf courses, tennis courts and boating. Live to take bike rides and golf cart rides around the resort. Wild Dunes is only 20 minutes from down town Charleston.

Have been to WD many times for vacation and golf packages. Usually stay at Ocean Club (Bldg. 4). Great space and views, on the beach, and only a mile from the Pavilion. Unit we were in for Labor Day weekend needs a serious updating but overall experience met all expectations.

Very beautiful and affordable. Eric who is also the massage therapist, he has been working at the resort for 8 years, best person ever, and so is the rest of the staff. I will come back again, and recommend this place to my family and friends in KY.

We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn. Very nice and spacious room. There seems to be a lot of activity on the site. Unfortunately we couldn't benefit from it because it rained almost continuously throughout our stay. Maybe next time ... we will definitely be back!

We recently had our wedding reception at Wild Dunes. We started with a cocktail reception at the Grand Pavilion followed by dinner and dancing in the Sweetgrass Pavilion. The food was yummy, the venues were perfect for our needs and our guests who stayed at the resort really enjoyed the accommodations. Samantha Martin, the catering manager, was very responsive throughout the entire process. She put together a great package for us that helped us really take advantage of all the amenities of the resort. It was a beautiful event that we will always remember.

great view of the beach, even on a cooler day this is a great place to go. It is always easy to find a spot to hunker down. I love the easy access. The quality of the rooms and rentals are top notch.

I walked into the resort for the Pokemon gym near the entrance. I only met a few of the guests who were out for their morning run or bike. One guest pointed out an alligator in the pond right in front of me. The resort was well maintained.

Beautiful resort and accommodations, however more than one member of our party was harrased by the security guard at the gate even after providing a confirmation of our reservation and the number of the villa we were staying in. We were also asked to recite to the exact address of the villa. A bit audacious in my opinion considering there is only one place to go to check-in.

Resort check-in is after 4pm, yet one of our 2 villas wasn't ready when we arrived at 5pm. While that isn't a significant issue, just don't count on it being available like we did in order to make a reception by 5:30.

Room was nice. Everything else was bad. They have an airport mentality where they feel they have you so they can charge what they want for anything. (Borrow a chair to sit on beach? $10. Bagel with lox and cream cheese? $17. Liter of water? $5) And the reward for these high prices is horrible service. Hotel is full so they have 1 guy that is the valet AND the bellhop. So much for 4 stars. We waited 20 minutes for our car. Called at 9 am and asked if someone could clean our room before 1 PM when the child takes a nap? Result? Someone shows at 1:30. Then proceeded to clean other rooms around ours and slammed doors. Not worth the price by any stretch. Have been served better at a La Quinta.

My family rented out a house for a week to celebrate me leaving for deployment. Upon arrival I was told I could not come on the property due to riding a motorcycle (all the way from Virginia beach) and if I did not leave the resort property immediately I would be detained. They failed to list on parking passes you can't have any 2 wheel motor vehicles. I calmly asked if they had another lot to park my motorcycle and if my family could pick me up and they reiterated if I didn't leave immediately I would be detained. I asked what I could do as I have never been to the area to park my motorcycle for the night as I had rode all day to see my family before I deploy and once again stated not or problem were well detain you if you remain on the property with the motorcycle. Not military or motorcycle friendly. I did not serve 10+ years in the navy to be so disrespected. I am working with navy legal to get this place as a "no-go" zone for military and seeing about retribution for fees associated with paid parking many miles away and not associated to the resort (find your own). I've been in third world countries with more human decency and respect. With how expensive this place is they should work for you, not ther other way around. If I could/can get this place shut down or the rules changed I will. Way too much to pay for a beach a rude service throughout.

We are staying in the condos at wild dunes resort. We have had a fantastic time. The condo is clean and right on the beach. Wild dunes had tons of great amenities. We have taken advantage of the lap pool to swim in and the trail system for a few runs. Highly recommended!

My new bride and I stayed 3 nights over Christmas holiday and were delighted by the southern hospitality and clean, modern, and fresh looking accommodations. We dined at the Sea Island Grill on the property and were treated to a wonderful Christmas Dinner of southern fare. The only complaint I had was that the hot water only lasted about 3-4 min before turning luke-warm or cool no matter how far the faucet was turned.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We hope to return in the near future.

Amazing resort with incredible views. The staff are friendly and attentive. I can not recommend this resort enough. We stayed in the beach villas and there was even a heated pool (kids had a blast). We tried all the restaurants and never had a bad meal. Great for a quick weekend away too.

Friendly staff and clean rooms. But pools are to small to accommodate the amount of people. Went out multiple times to get a chair by 1 of the pools. Most were empty but occupied by towels. I watched many people come and go due to no seating. Resort fees were not mentioned when we booked and they are over priced. I paid $2.78 for a 12oz pepsi that was warm. We will not stay here again.Had a nice little summer storm last night and over half of the elevators didnt work. The water pressure is the shower is terrible. The best part about staying here was waking up early to walk to the beach to see the sun rise.

Attended a Wedding. It was on the beach and then the reception was at the Tides ballroom. The resort was clean, the employees were friendly, and the experience was a pleasant one. The only things that could be improved upon were directions and parking. It is a bit of a maze ... And parking was hard to come by.

We were here over Thanksgiving and stayed at the hotel. In the morning of thanksgiving my dad got sick and we needed to go to urgent care. We hopped in my car ( valet service was great) and tried to make our way onto the main concourse. The only issue was that the thanksgiving golf cart parade was happening. There were no parade attendants or security in this area to tell us or direct us where to go to get out. We backed up the one way and tried three different ways to get out, all blocked be people. There was literally no way out other than to cut through the people and line for parade. We got yelled at by people and angry faces. It took us over a half hour just to get out from the hotel area. I was so upset and my dad was too. When we came back to the hotel, we asked the valet and the front desk why they didnt tell us what was going to happen to which they said we should have known. We told them that this is dangerous if there was an emergency situation and people needed to get out or emergency service needed to get in to which they said that those services 'know' how to open a gate to get in 'the back way'. If someone was having a heart attack I dont know if this would be time efficient or if they do truly know and if my dad was really badly sick this could have been an even worse disaster. Not to mention, our entire stay there the elevator was broken, and the ice machine on our floor was broken. I also want to point out the closest starbucks is about 20 min drive away. I would not stay here again.
