VERY cool exhibit and beautiful art. The trip through his mind through his art was amazing!! Never forget the experience!!
This is definitely something you have to visit if you're in Amsterdam. The museum is modern, and it shows all of Van Gogh's works in order of his life. I was lucky enough to go when the Paris Prints exhibition was happening. Easily one of my favourite museums. Tips: There is no student/senior discount.
- Children under 18 enter free.
- If you can, book tickets online, as the line can be very long.
- If you can't book online, go early. I went to the museum around noon, and the line was already long, and getting even longer.
The legacy of Vincent Van Gogh is still alive at the museum. A lot of his collections are well maintained and moreover, paintings by his friends are also on display. His tools used for painting and writing letters are really well preserved and worth going to the museum. Recommended to not go during weekends as way too many people will visit the museum and too much crowded.
Best art museum in the world for me - so clever in the way it is set up!
Learned so much about Van Gogh! Lots of art but also a great lesson on one of the most well known artist.
This was the best thing we saw in Amsterdam. The way the collection is displayed and the audio guide makes it an extremely interesting and comprehensive guide to Van Gough's life and artistic journey.
The museum is full not only the painting of van Gogh but also some painting of his friends, and also van Gogh's biography unfortunately not a happy ending life
Excellent art. Nice perspective on the times he was living in and his associates. Too many people at the same time. No clear direction unless you pay for the guide. Lightning is not adjusted to the time of the day.
Very nice museum and an excellent place to visit in Amsterdam.
The museum successfully tells the story of Vincent Van Gogh through his artwork as well as artwork of other artists that inspired Von Gogh. If in Amsterdam, definitely visit this place.
If you like art and you are also a big fan of van gogh then I highly recommend you going to this museum. Even if you are not a fan then also you should visit this museum. It's worth it. It's clean and organized. Take audio tour. And also buy tickets online as chances are you will find long queue for tickets at the spot
A most comprehensive and excellent journey through the life of one of histories great artists. I spend 6h here and apart from my feet complaining i had the most wonderful day.
If you like art this museum is a place to go. Every time I go to Amsterdam I stop by.
Vincent Van Gogh museum is a must see sightseeing in Amsterdam city.
It is very comfortable to visit if you have the I Amsterdam city card where the ticket for the museum is included (22 without the card).
Paintings of his life followed by sentences that explain each paint and how his life was.
Amazing, teaches you a lot that you never knew and really shows you all sides to the artist. The art is beautiful and they explain how he painted and how they keep the paintings looking new and the touch ups they do. It s also very interesting to see life from someone else s perspective.
This is an amazing place to visit. Must place if you visit Amsterdam. Van Gogh's life's work is displayed here in a terrific way.
An amazing tribute to the life of Van Gogh and the story of his life from his beginnings to his death. His self portraits are haunting and incredible sunflowers which are masterpieces.
Actually it s so sad when you just in front of one of the greatest museums, and you don t have a tile and money to inter :(
Tells the story of Van Gogh's life. Immaculate collection in a stunning gallery.
I was disappointed with the way the museum was laid out. There was no order to the pictures or his life. The audio was good but you went from #42 to #3 to #86 - it was helter skelter. The famous yellow flowers picture was in another wing in another section of the museum. After taking some pictures someone told me I couldn't take pictures. I would not go again.
Must see in Amsterdam. Still few very important paintings are missing there. Free guided tours are available.
The Van Gogh museum is a fantastic memorial to the tragically short life of Van Gogh. The paintings are well arranged and the order gives a context to who he was as a developing artist. There is lots of great paintings and well as information about him and his friends and contemporaries. There was also a free sunflowers painting class downstairs when we went. A must see if you're visiting Amsterdam.
Amazing! Very well organized: you deep into Van Gogh mind and see his art in a different perspective.
Van Gogh is a favorite, and the layout of this museum does a fantastic job of capturing his development as an artist and telling the story of his life. I highly recommend the audio/multi-media tour, as it provides a whole other layer of knowledge and nuance to the collection.
Fun museum to visit. There was an art class happening that was taught by a professional artist that was really fun. It was geared toward all ages so I painted with kids and adults, all with a common theme. Was awesome to see everyone s imagination at play and learn how to mix a rainbow of colors with a limited palette. This is a must see attraction in Amsterdam!
Nice if you are a fan of the artist. Otherwise stick to the rijksmuseum. Be sure to get the tickets early online and bypass the queue in front of the museum.
This musuem is very overhyped. Most of the space is used to sell you terrible souvenirs with Van Gogh art plastered on top of them. Gogh's actual art is hardly available. It is also very crowded for the few pieces that are displayed.
A life story through his work.... Fantastically done and so easy to follow his life story. One of the best art museums I have visited
Lights in this museum is good for enjoying these masterpieces. But a little bit crowded.
Wonderful museum, love how it is set up with a timeline and parts about his family. I'd recommend if you are staying in Amsterdam and want to visit to go early in the day, we went at 10:30am, and it was already quite busy, but more so when we left. Would definitely go again.
Mandatory stop in Amsterdam. Beautifully tells Van Ghogs story with photos and documents.
One of the highlights of our Neatherlands trip.
A great collection of works and excellent gift shop.
Definitely a must if you're visiting Amsterdam! So many beautiful paintings and letters.
A very disappointing experience, especially compared to a similar size/type of a museum (Dali museum in Figueres, Picasso museum in Paris, Rodin museum in Paris, villa Borghese in Rome, etc.). The museum is located in the centre of Amsterdam in a very dark modern style building with minimal access to natural light, all artificial lighting in the museum is poor, which made it practically impossible to view (let alone enjoy) the artwork. About 60% of all pieces presented are by other artists who one way or the other were related to Van Gogh at different times in life. Audio guide presentation sounded more like a selling point for the museum lacking facts. On Monday afternoon in February when the weather was at its worst, the museum was packed with people, making it again nearly impossible to approach the paintings. Annotations to paintings are done in small print which you can't read. Don't waste your time and money.
Huge collection of paintings and articles about Van Gogh. For art loving people, it is a great place
A good place to spend a few hours and a must visit if you re going to Amsterdam. Make sure you get an audio guide for a more wholistic experience.
I really enjoyed my experience in the museum. I bought the audio tour for 5 extra and I should say that it's worth. Keep in mind that the museum doesn't hold all of the Van Gogh's, so you don't get disappointed! And make sure that you book at least two days in advance!
If you love his art or would like to have a better understanding about his life, definitely visit the museum.
I really loved it here and their audio guide is very useful
Beautiful museum, the audio guide was worth every cent. Spent over 2 hours in there and enjoyed it a lot.
A must-see in Amsterdam. Make sure you buy tickets online and try to go when there is less crowd (I believe the website will tell you their busiest time when you are buying tickets online). Great collection of Van Gogh's artwork and good narrative on his personal life. Loved it!
A nice museum. Crowded. Prior ticket reservation is needed
Amazing but few paintings. Great place. Recommended for art lovers.
I literally LOVED the Van Gogh museum. An amazing collection of Van Gogh work in a place that is well laid out ! The place is super nice even from outside.
I recommend you to buy your tickets online which is more practical to enter quickly (especially in such a popular museum) !
The flow of people is well controlled by a super kind and professional staff.
The museum offers free cloakroom where you can let your coat and bag (it is actually imposed by the museum in order to preserve the paintings and it is also better for you to fully enjoy the visit)
I highly recommend you to visit the museum with the audio guides which explains you a lot of things about Van Gogh, his life, inspiration, family...I was totally in a bubble why listening to the stories !
Fabulous museum. Well worth booking the audio tour. Leave at least 2 hours to fully enjoy.
I am not a huge art enthusiast but I wanted to give it a try and I wasn't convinced. The art itself was good, but price and amount of pictures didn't satisfy me.
A must when you're in Amsterdam. Incredible seeing all these works by Van Goch in one place. Some of the explanations next to the paintings and of the sections were good but some were lacking in my opinion, and the audio guide was very confusing, so perhaps joining a group with a human guide is a better idea.
Great art, beautiful building, well planned. Be sure to purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid long long lines
Beautiful museum with lots to see. Fairly busy though. The elevators are rather small for those travelling with a stroller. A great gift shop with lots of fun knick knacks. When we visited there was a free painting class, which our three year old really enjoyed. There is also a family area where kids can colour and read. The cafeteria was decent and had lots of options, as well as high chairs.
Amazing! Big enough. Not like those boring and heavy museums. Left the place knowing a lot more
I willl give 5 star to this
Must visit. Some painting are really wonderful.
Really well organised museum with a vast amount of interesting work to see, wish there was slightly more interactivity as part galley. Really enjoyed the speaking letters from his past. More of things like this would be great.
Great journey to van Gogh life, amazing to learn about his time and his life. Must see place in Amsterdam
A great museum to see in Amsterdam if you are willing to shell out 20 euros. This museum is more expensive than the "Anne Frank House" and more expensive than the Louvre.
The phrase, the early bird gets the worm directly applies to the ticket purchasing process and how early you should arrive at the museum. Being in the first time slot possible will help you avoid the crowd and enhance your overall viewing experience. As an aesthete, a person who appreciates the arts, the museum pours burst with beauty. Let again, arrive early, so your moments of ecstasy aren't ruined by the crowd is pertinent. Spend a minimum of 4 hours here to consume every once of Van Gogh's work thoroughly!
Well structured, good information and pleasant environment. Thoroughly enjoyed it
Fantastic museum with many of Van Gogh's works on display. The museum layout and audio tour does a great job chronicling his life and walking visitors through the different stages of Van Gogh's short but impactful artistic career. There are also several mini-stores on different levels of the museum to find a wide variety of Van Gogh-related merchandise.
I recommend purchasing your tickets online in advance-- the ticket kiosks outside the museum cost slightly more. There is a luggage and coat check on the first level, but try not to bring too large of a bag as they may turn you away. Also, there are no photos allowed inside the museum.
It s great museum, but you should book it a ticket by online because sometimes the ticket machine isn t work. Unfortunately, they didn t have a ticket office. I don t know why
Must see if you like art or want to know anything about Van Gogh. Expect to spend an hour here.
Bring your reading glasses! Lots of information about his life and artwork in both English and Dutch, but all the writing is very small, making it a nightmare to read unless you are right next to it, blocking the view or the art from other people
My adventure to the Van Gogh Museum was an interactive educational experience. I truly enjoyed every moment. Thank you
Nicely organized collection also with a bit of insight into the painter's life.
Great staff, very friendly and accommodating. Superb selection of artworks of the renowned painter, accompanied by material like letters, scientific analysis, enlargements etc. However, I can t rate my experience with five stars because it all felt quite explanatory and repetitive. It felt more like an educational institution rather than an art one. Plus super-super busy.
Enables you to explore not only his art, but how it came to be - the evolution of it and its influences. Unlike most art museum, this gives the best context of all Ive been to so far.
Absolutely amazing!!! Well worth a trip I spent a lot good 3 and a half hours going round. Big fan of the Big VG and I it blew mme away. I walked around quite literally in wonderment! Go and see for yourself.
Great museum that you have to make time to visit while and Amsterdam. Even if you're not an art lover there's something for everybody Here.
Excellent place to see so many of the works of this master artist, his birth, his life, his growth as an artist, his influences, those who influenced him, his descent into madness, & finally his death. The frantic brushstrokes with a heavy hand & thick on paint are a sight to behold, along with his use of colors for poppy, contrasty scenes. This museum is a must see. May take you 2-3 hours to see it all. It's so worth it. Just know that you can take a camera inside, but there are certain works that you are not allowed to photograph, like the famous sunflowers, & you can't use flash on any that you can take a photo of.
Naturally, it has the greatest collection of Van Goghs, even if it was missing several big name items to other collections. The only thing that bothered me was it was crowded with people doing the audio tour, who were more interested in looking at the handheld device giving them the tour, and not actually looking at the art.
Plus, with three different gift shops there is definitely an 'exit through the gift shop' vibe.
Book an early slot online in advance to avoid massive crowds. Interesting, large collection, well designed and informative audio guides. Note; not very child friendly
Highly recommend this museum and I would suggest to book a time slot for at least 2hrs before the closing time to get the full experience.
Very crouded with patchy lighting.
Audio tour is helpful, mostly.
Even though they control and limit the number of people, you quickly find yourself crouded out of viewing. Sitting and viewing is impossible, making the experience tiring.
In many cases you need to move about as the lighting is reflected off the oil. Overcrowding again prevents good vewing.
Gift shop disappointed as its really focused around a few paintings.
So many people there! But the exhibits are stunning and the story behind is well presented.
One of my favourite museums. It has a great collection and you will learn a incredible amount about Vincent van Gogh.
It's not to crowded but buy you tickets online. It will save you a lot of money. Also they don't like it when you take pictures in the museum. Not even without flash. So keep that in mind.
Wonderful place to visit in a whistle-stop tour of Amsterdam. Tip - spend the extra to get the tour, helped me to see the paintings and portraits though others eyes as well as my own.
Definitely buy tickets ahead of time! I loved touring this museum however it was huge and I would've preferred to only see Van Gogh and maybe a few of his inspirations but not Hockney... that was a waste of time.
The museum is very well managed to ensure that accessibility is easy but that it never gets too overcrowded. Multiple gift shops ensure that buying a souvenir is not frustrating
As a lifelong fan of Van Gogh I had to visit here on our short trip to Amsterdam. Buying tickets online was easy and they put them in my apple wallet. I loved the video sent via email which was personalized with my name and gave easy instructions for our visit. The entire experience at the museum was very easy and modern. We took the first entry time which I highly recommend. The visit was very moving and everything was presented with class and a lot of thought. The story they told about the almond blossom painting was particularly moving.
Lost my cloakroom tickets and the staff were so helpful finding my bag and coat
Situated in a nice place, awesome exhibitions and cozy place to visit..
Good information about Vincent and good info about the paintings. A lot of paintings and we also got to paint our own paintings for free. Totally worth it!
Fabulous your, not too crowded..buy tickets in advance!!
The mode of delivery is excellent. With the rented audio device, you can roam around the museum at your own pace. I gained valuable info on Van Gogh's life.
I suppose everyone knows about this fabulous museum but if you are in Amsterdam and want to know more about Van Gogh get yourself there.
