Well organized it takes in a journey through Van Gogh life from childhood until he died.
Well organized it takes in a journey through Van Gogh life from childhood until he died.
Van Gogh's self portraits are my favorite. I stared at it as long and as near as I could. It was really incredible. The best museum I've ever been. They will let you near to the Paintings. Cheap and very organized. I will go back again for it.
Tons of great paintings, and easy to explore in about 1 hour. They do stagger the crowds somewhat with the tickets / entry times, but it's still fairly crowded. Buy your tickets online when you get there or slightly in advance.
Nice museum, be sure that you need to order tickets online, cause they don t provide ticket over there, you know, lots of people.
Lot of Van Gogh's works here of course, must visit of you appreciate his work.
Beautiful art. In love. He was way ahead of his time and he was lost too soon.
I went on a Monday morning and didn't purchase my ticket til two hours beforehand. There wasn't a line and I was able to walk right in at 10:30AM. If you're visiting at a busier time plan ahead but it's definitely worth a visit.
I paid the extra 5 for the audio tour and it was very informative. A little over the top some times but worth the extra.
A plea to the people who take pictures, even though they ask you not to, please turn off the flash. This is the whole reason they say no pictures in the first place, the flash is bad of the art work and can ruin the experience for others.
VG is better than very good it is outstanding. The summary notes with each work or room theme are a quick insight into the work character and demons of a great talent. Well done VGM. Cafe apple cake is also worth a stop.
Even if you don't like art like me, the stories about his life were enough to give it a 5 star.
The collection is extensive and magnificent. Building itself is a great piece of early modern architecture by Rietvield. However, I expected better museum experience and organisation ( not enough spaces to sit and watch, no detailed information about key exponats, I was not happy with how the light was positioned etc.). Still, it is a must to see this museum. The story about Van Gogh life is truly inspiring.
Awesome to see Van Gogh s most famous works in person
They need a better ticketing scheme, something like 20% of tickets released day of like the Anne Frank museum would be nice.
If Van Gogh was alive he would hate it.
This place does 0 justice to Van Gogh. It's a tourist attraction for the whole family. not a place to go if you look for inspiration nor to learn about the artist.
Great museum with an easy to follow route so you don t feel like you re going to miss a section. Some sections disallow photography but as is expected sometimes.
Such an amazing place. I enjoyed the exhibits much and would like to visit again sometime. There are hundreds of paintings and so much more to see. Bring your gym shoes here, there are alot of hard floors and stairs and maybe even bring a snack. There is a restaurant inside if you want a snack as well, the soup is very good.
Elaborated museum, so much stuff from van Gogh it's worth your time
A must see museum if you stop by Amsterdam if you are a little art curious.
The circuit and audio guide where well made.
A quick tour is possible but a more complete one will require at least 3 hours.
Fabulous collection! We enjoyed Audrey our guide who was so knowledgeable about Van Gogh paintings it was a pleasure to be on her tour of the museum.
It is a lovely museum. I learnt more about Van Gough. We went at 10am and it wasnt too busy. The headsets were definitely worth it as you understood what you were looking at.
The cloakroom was free and very handy as you didnt have to carry you coats costs around.
The only thing was the numbers were all over the place. Your first number was 98 and then next no was 36.so it was abit confusing.
very good, but the tourists and visitors are horrible!! otherwise the museum is very well done.
I enjoyed this museum more than the Rijksmuseum as it s more focused and manageable within half day.
Certainly nice to see Van Gogh but the museum is quite weirdly organized.
Felt we understood his growth as an artist and that he had significant influence on modernising Art-great to see so much of his work and life in letters
Loved it! All work displayed chronologically, very busy but managed to see everything I wanted to see. Quite pricey (like all museums in Amsterdam! ) but worth every penny.
Wonderful museum with an intimate overview of Van Gogh's life and work. I hadn't known much about him before this museum, but now I'm a fan. No photos allowed and you should book tickets in advance to make sure you get in.
Buy tickets online! (That's hugely important!). Queues there are just enormous (me and my friend never regretted spending 3 minutes to buy tickets online)
Please, mention, that it is possible to enter only since the certain time you will buy a ticket to!
The museum itself is amazing!!! Audio/live guide is an absolute MUST! Atmosphere is cool, despite there are a bit too many people inside.
Amazing museum. Definitely one of my favorites in the world. It is a complete experience. I highly recommend to pay for the audioguide, so you can live the complete experience beginning from Van Gogh's inspiration as an artist and the evolution of his painting style through time.
I'm not a lover of art and for this reason only did not really enjoy it. if you are a lover of art, it's very well laid out with a good level of information available. would recommend it for an art lover... not for me.
Van Gogh's paintings are much more beautiful in real life than on the internet.. I think it's a must go to when you're here in Amsterdam.
Now who can miss Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. After more than 100 years Sunflowers are still shining
Really nice paintings and food. The audio guides are very well made and it is an overall very interesting museum. It is a really nice place. However, be warned that you are not allowed to take pictures.
Extraordinary place
Tickets are available online only
Amazing stuff
I lost my umbrella in the locker room and the gave me another one and when they found mine they sent me an Email to take it.
The museum is well organized and Wide enough to suit the huge number of daily visitors
One of the best artists ever, portrayed in the most beautiful gallery ever!
I love this place!! I could (and did) spend hours here!! Everyone was crowded around the sunflowers, but I'm a much bigger fan of his earlier work and found the sunflowers to be overrated... Take a look at the garlic chives for something more special.
I advice you to take audio guide. It has a lot of additional info and make nice connection between different rooms at the exhibition.
Great experience even for people who aren't interested in art like myself. Definitely must-see...
This is very busy. U must get tickets ahead. They will assign a time. U won't be able to walk in. Worth the visit. But a lot of people. So it will take some time.
Amazing works of art. Some special pieces that can t be seen anywhere else. The lay out of the museum and the lighting can be odd at times. It s built as a time line starting from the top to the bottom. It s great if you don t know much about Van Gogh. But if you do it s not the best way to see his work imo.
It is a famous place, but it doesn't mean it suits you. I couldn't understand the meaning of him. I think 99/100 of the normal people don't need to visit it.
Wonderful place, can't come to Amsterdam and not to visit it!
Had so much fun here. Wish I could have stayed longer.
The museum was run like a well tuned machine. The Van Gogh display was very enjoyable and informative. So glad we had the opportunity to visit.
The audio guide is 200 percent worth it. Had 0 knowledge about Van Gogh before going in and this musuem did an excellent job of presenting the history and details. Leaving I felt like I could really empathize with his work. Awesome gift shop and flow. Loved this musuem.
A must see if you are in Amsterdam. It lets you explore the lifes of one of the worlds greatests artists not just though his work but also through his inspirations and experiences.
Be aware, you can't take photos inside the complex except in designated zones
This was truly one if the best museum experiences I've ever had. Not only is the museum building one of the coolest I've ever entered, the layout is genius. Starting at the first floor, you go up through the building following Van Gogh's life. The first floor has many pieces from artists who inspired Van Gogh, including Millet. You'll learn a ton (whether you like it or not!) About him as you move from the Potato Eaters to the Sunflowers. There are multiple gift shops throughout the muemseum and some stuff is only in some of them. The bathrooms are free and are in the center of each floor.
If you are a local of visitor of Amsterdam. A visit to all the museum's on museum square is an experience. I doubt you can do this in one trip, but I closed our visit with van Gogh museum. I really like the building and the atmosphere. Due to covid19 it not that busy so we could enjoy the space more.
I am more a fan of pop art but the van Gogh should be on your bucket list and is an experience and worth a visit.
I really liked the museum and getting to know his history of how he lived was pretty interesting. Make sure you have time so you can look at all of his work and listen about his life story from childhood to the end of life. The only thing that bothered me was the flash of people taking photos of his art work when the signs clearly states no pictures.
The price is with 17 pretty expensive. We've been there during the week and it's was crowded. Recommended to but the ticket at one of the resellers around the city so you save the time in a long line. Good if you wanna rush through in 60 to 90 minutes but not too comfortable if you really wanna look at the pieces of art. Taking pictures of paintings is forbidden, there are many signs and I saw personal shouting at visitors trying to snap one. Not in a rude way. You can take one picture of the sunflowers in the 1st floor near the upper souvenir store.
I only saw Van Gogh Expo and i spent 3 hours there!! Every single second worth it. Learned a lot from his history, they have a really good overview of him. In the end i felt like i knew him.
Beautiful collection, nice museum and great audiotour. Unfortunately in times of corona it is hard for people to keep to social distance measures. The museum people don t take responsibility to tell visitors to respect the rules. I would absolutely advise to use a face mask when visiting.
I spent 4-5 hours in the museum although I think I can spend days there. You definitely must spare some time if you decide to visit it - more than 2-3 hours.
Beautiful beautiful museum!! Remember to make your reservation with anticipation online, as that is the only way to visit nowadays. Toilet doors don't lock well (colours for "occupied" and "free" don't show correctly) and they don't accept cash payments for anything, not even audio-guides. Just debit or credit cards. That's important to know.
O.k. but not enough light to see paintings properly. Staff rude. Even though it's the Van Gogh Museum and he was a prolific painter there really was that much work by the man himself. The map is a waste of time.
Lovely museum for Van Gogh paintings with good explanation.
Definitely the place to visit if you heard at least anything about Van Gogh
Very interesting to learn about Van Gogh while seeing his work. Highly recommend
To be honest was hoping for more it felt like a bit of s let down for me
Great museum with a kids treasure hunt which kept my wean amused.
Cool place to come, make sure you have online ticket because it is always full of people.
It's a excellent point of attraction. Historical. It does not have the well known paintings though.
It was a great place to visit and know more on Van Gogh life and works.
It is important museum which shows drawings of Van Gogh, Nice place to visit in the weekend .
Insightful! Allow sufficient time to go through all 3 floors. You'll walk out with a new found respect for Van Gogh for the tribulations he went through. Experiencing this will also bring more awareness into mental health as well.
Brilliant insight into the sad life a creative genius.
Crowded but so worth it. You COULD do the tour in an hour, but Allow up to whole day of you want to take in everything.
Excellent audio guide.
Super disappointed that every Van Gough is covered by glass. Really a suckfest. Save your money and time turn 180 degree and see the Stedelijik. That museum is Awesome!
Enjoyed the Hockney and Van Gogh paintings. If only I could paint with such detail as Van Gogh.
Spectacular! To get know more about Van Gogh is marvelous. You can understand his emotions and what makes his paintings so amazing. Get the audio tour for sure. And save at least 3h for the visit. It will be worthy.
I was so excited to be able to come here after waiting for almost four years, but I was extremely let down. My mother and I arrived early in the morning to purchase tickets only to find out AT THE DOOR that they had to be bought online. The woman was extremely rude to us and pushed us away from the front door. I thought, okay fine, I'll order them online for later today. I order them for 13:45 and killed some time by walking around the city. When I returned, I had to wait in a ridiculously long line to check my bag. The museum itself is a mess. There's a lack of organization and people there to tell you about the pieces. Almost none of Van Gogh's notable works are there! The place was absolutely packed and it was almost impossible to see any of his work up close. For 18 euro a ticket, this really isn't worth it. Save your time and money and visit another one of Amsterdam's many sights.
Buy tickets in advance. Big bags are not allowed but there are lockers inside available for free.
Great collection of artwork in the permanent exposition. Because this museum is dedicated to a single artist, it is set up in a way that takes you along the artist's development and experience. You don't feel exhausted or overwhelmed, instead you can see how the art changes and reflects Van Gogh's life at different stages.
Somewhat confusing ticketing system to limit the amount of people that can enter at a time. Was hard to use our I amsterdam cards but worked out in the end. Super intuitive layout and really informative. One of the best places to visit in Amsterdam hands down! Do not miss.
I love art and this was amazing. It advices itself!
This place holds a special place in my heart, and is by far the best museum in Amsterdam. The numbers speak for themselves, of course, and there are a thousand and one reasons one might find themselves enjoying half a day here.
The first time I went, I had already seen most of Van Gogh s seminal pieces in Paris, London, and New York. So I was curious how this museum had been getting such rave reviews without these vital pieces.
What really struck me the most on arrival was the authentic and genuine style of curation, which took me on a journey through the life of Vincent Van Gogh.
A lot of museums leave a lot to be desired contextually. Their curation feels primarily geared to academic audiences, and they wonder why they re having trouble getting foot traffic. Well, they ought to take a page out of this museum s book.
Such an amazing place to go to and visit! Expecially if you're a tourist and a lover of art! Have a bit of the before you go ;)
Visit early! Beautiful, very interesting and wonderful to see some if his works particularly the almond tree.
Fantastic museum, easy access with a great selection of paintings. I loved the gift shop too, though expensive. Would go again!
Not to be missed on a visit to Amsterdam. All the finest works well displayed & spaced out so no craning to see the artwork - I enjoyed it immensely!
It's Van Gogh.. It's absolutely amazing. It's a not to be missed experience.
It's a beautiful experience, the audio guide was pretty good. Love it
Lovely Museum if you like them go. They also had a kid treasure hunt that my kids did which helped educate down a lot more on Van Gogh. I always loved his work but now I really really love his work. Fantastic collection and historical perspective.
It was great, except for the young families with kids that can not be quiet. But apart from that I enjoyed it very much
It is so beautiful here. I was up very early (jet lag) and was one of about 20 people who gathered when it opened. You must check your bag and coat. I HIGHLY recommend the "guided" option, you can purchase for 5Euro a device you can follow and listen to the history of Van Gogh through an Mp3 like device. I purchased a pillowcase which is now on my couch and reminds me of Amsterdam each time I look at it!
Look... With famous places you should expect queues. But there were queues for the queues for the queues! Not worth our money. We walked out and spent the rest of the day admiring artists and spending our money on those that are still alive. Always loved Van Gogh, this was a terrible disappointment for us both, it almost ruined our day. Sorry guys but the system isn't working!
This place is home to the most comprehensive collection of Van Gogh works and related artists. Spread over four floors you will learn about his life and Dutch culture. The museum is not so immense that you need a full day, but when we visited it was somewhat overcrowded and this detracted from the experience as it was hard to appreciate the works amongst the crowds.
