One of my favourite museum in Amsterdam. The Van Gogh museum has the largest collection of masterpieces by Van Gogh as well as other artist whom he collaborated or was inspired by him. The museum also provides a very detail timeline of his life and how it influence his art. It also showcase letters that he wrote to his brother. The artworks are preserved greatly. No photos are allowed in the museum, especially on the paintings.
Would recommend to buy tickets online, otherwise need to queue at the machine and only do payments using cards. If you have a museum pass or iAmsterdam pass, you need to book your time slot on the website.

What a waste of 36. My wife and I queued for 20 minutes after paying on line with a time slot. It was pouring rain and when we got in, we were told that we couldn't take the umbrella in. We would have to leave it on the cloakroom. The queue was long, but when I saw the queue for the people waiting to pick up their gear, we left. I would recommend that you look at the art online. Not happy about this place at all.

If you re a Van Gogh super fan, then this is your holy grail
It s a small museum with 3 levels and you re not allowed to take photos but the museum did a great job putting a wall where visitors can take pictures.
Spend about 45 mins. and buy some souvenirs. A little expensive but hey, it s Van Gogh!

This museum does such a good job of capturing the scope of Van Gough's life and art--particularly how troubled he was, which I sometimes forget because a lot of his most famous paintings are so bright.

Seem this is an excellent museum for people that love Van Gogh. For all the other people this place has the vibe of a nuclear bomb shelter. The sad architecture combined with the blunt Dutch hospitality makes the museum a sad place to be. I was super interested in the Van Gogh story because we watched a recent movie about his life. The museum destroyed everything we loved about the legend and wanted to see. There was no storytelling, no information about the characters in his life and no information about his struggle as a tortured human being. We loved the gift shop though. Especially the Van Gogh socks and the dog vest. Super stylish!

Exceptional museum. Although I had to wait 15 minutes under rain and wind to buy a ticket because tgere was only one machine working, the overall experience was amazing. Superb collection with some of his masterpieces. Loads of personal information displayed in a very interesting way. Also, great paitings of other impressionists masters as Monet helping to illustrate Van Gogh importance. Worth every penny spent!

The museum tries to be child friendly but they have a long way to go. They do provide free strollers which is very nice but their policies and their enforcement are unreasonable. I visited with a two years old kid and during my visit I learnt that he is not allowed to carry a closed bottle of water, that I can't have him on my shoulders (even though we weren't near any paintings) and that I should hold his hand all the time... Overall they welcome kids as long as they are sleeping or can be motionless for 2+ hours. I wish they displayed the same zeal when enforcing their no photo policy.
Needless to say, the art collection is top notch and definitely deserves 5 stars. It's a pity that they don't want children to admire it.

Look, if I have to explain what makes the van Gogh Museum great... For what it's worth, the collection is beautifully curated and presented. I learned a lot, and seeing his paintings in the flesh was very interesting. Really glad I went!

An amazing museum dedicated to one of Holland s most talented artists Vincent Van Gogh. Be sure to book ahead and online before planning your visit. There is a free cloakroom with your ticket. I would totally do the media tour for 5 , it makes your visit even more enjoyable. You can use the headphones or your own EarPods as well (use a splitter if you are with 2;) )

Great works show the artistic journey from Van Gogh from young age until his death. Officially you cannot take any photos, but managed to take a few. Store is great and toilets are clean as expected. Visit take about 2 hours.

A beautifully designed museum where more dutch people should go to. Their use of lighting and space to accentuate the museum is very well done. Besides that the museum is very clean, big and displays a great image of van Gogh.

An in depth understanding of a magnificent artist. Goes from his early works and takes visitors through his evolution to the works we know today. This is for anyone that's interested in the evolution of art and a biography that remains as legend for time to come....head in early or late afternoon book your ticket online and you get free multimedia headset.

Just nearby the Rijkmuseum, you can walk to the Van Gogh museum. You can enjoy is painting frenzy, see for yourself the evolution of his art, changing almost daily at the end, depending on his mood I guess. The museum did a very good job of collecting many items from Van Gogh as well as his fellow painters to recreate the atmosphere he was influenced ith.

Amazing museum. I loved the ability to experience the paintings so up close.
Only thing that annoyed me was the poor catering for disabled people, the lift took ages to arrive and was used by people who can use the stairs so the wait was even longer. The doors would be impossible to open for someone on a wheelchair.
Few more sitting benches in the gallery could be nice to sit and view the painting.
The museum staff could be more helpful, especially when you had people staring at a painting so close and long the no one else could see it, a polite notice to be mindful of other visitors could helped and in some cases staff asking people to move along.

it is a museum to celebrate and commemorate van Gogh. The most brilliant part of the museum is the showcase of the exchange of letter between van Gogh and his loved one. i really have a great time

100% must see. The paintings are really something else.

Very special place the Dutch have here. Got tickets at a local stand .. walked right in the next day. Busy place. It is a bit dark but it adds to the experience.

The cafe is pricey... nothing great to eat. Quick snack and probably head to a restaurant later.

If you are a love of Van Gogh, and I am, this is a must. There is depth (do get the weird audio guide. Full of interesting insights.) I learned a lot and the museum is a manageable visit. Just wonderful.

I am not an artistic person, but this was life changing. The life of this man is something everyone should know. I knocked a star off because the gift shop sold me a folding "magnetic bookmarker" for 10 euro that was junk.

Great experience. There are a lot of paintings along with the stories of their creation which gives a vast look at Van Gogh's life. The exhibition isn't huge so you won't feel tired. Audio guides are great. Woupd recommend for everyone, a must-visit place.

A stunning display of his life work with a timeline and story of his life by the painting. Very beautiful and informative. Go early or late, after 11am it's a hot mess during the high season.

Be sure to book your tickets in advance even if you have a Museum Card or a city pass. The opening hour is the best, because it isn't that crowded yet. And it would be crowded, no matter the day or the season.

This is one of the most exquisite museums I have been to around the world. It is a very peaceful space. The artwork never fails to surprise me. And of course, Amsterdam is a beautiful city with iconic art.

It was ok and i had been looking forward to visiting it for a while but was a bit disappointed with work i feel has been over sung about really. I have seen better. The museum in genral was well set up but it took a while to get the touring aid to work! I think it could be more user friendly.

The organization handling the museum have done a great job of facilitating general public to view the works of a master. With Euro 19 ticket bought online and carried on phone, it was convenient. Apart from seeing the paintings of Van Gogh and some of his compatriots, one gets to learn a thing or two about his life, take photos before few of the paintings, buy items in prints from master's paintings. It was a good over an hour experience, but a fan can spend a full day. A caveat, many important paintings of Van Gogh are displayed in London. And he lived a sad life despite such talent.

It is very nice Museum of collections of very famous painter Vincent von Gogh. Museum has two parts, one is exhibition of painting on some particular topics and other part is classical paintings and letters of Von Gogh. It has story of his life too.
Please book your tickets in advance. Overall it's a nice place for arts and painting lovers.

Buy the tickets from their website especially if you are visiting on weekends. Keep in mind that Amsterdam is a city full of tourists 365 days per year. Great exhibition BUT there are a few famous paintings missing. Check Wikipedia just to be sure. There are many paintings (all of them are original) and many letters of Vincent to his friends and family. Time you will spend inside is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.

Always love visiting this museum in Amsterdam. Great works of Van Gogh on display. They made the museum big enough so even if it's busy, it doesn't feel busy. I always am concerned when there is quite a number of people, but when you get inside, it's like the building is big enough to accommodate everyone and still have space for more people.

Had no problem getting in at 7:15 pm on a gorgeous Friday night. Bought tickets online while standing outside, only a brief wait. Facility is huge, should have taken more photos in the areas where this was allowed. Neat little cafe on site. Huge gift shop. Amazing collection of artifacts and Van Gogh's work (I've been mispronouncing his name all these years). Easy to navigate. Friendly staff. Inspirational and worth the visit!

Amazing artwork and history! This museum includes the work of other artists that Van Gogh worked with or got inspiration from. There is both written word history and information and a listening guide. Great museum! It does get crowded, so I would recommend buying online the pass so you can skip the line. Also, not super friendly for having to push a stroller around being as it is a very popular spot.

Museum can be heavily crowded, but that is to be expected given the subject. Space is used effectively and the layout is well structured, adding to the immersion. Gift shop contains prints and other mementos and it isn't heavily overpriced. Well worth a visit but make sure to order tickets in advance.

The first available ticket I could get online was 27 Apr, 2 weeks from booking. It was much later that I found out it's King's Day and buses will be re-routed because the city centre will be closed to traffic. I wrote to the museum and they sent me a link for transport. Not helpful.
On that day, the ns.nl app gave me the wrong station to stop at. When I finally reached the museum, I was told to wait in line because i'll only be let in 5 min before my timing of 12.30pm. A long string of us queued in the cold rain getting wetter by the minute, looking at the cosy people inside the EMPTY museum foyer. Why couldn't they let us wait inside?
Finally got in and there's a Q for audio guide and a Q for coats and bags. That took more than 10 minutes. Then of course, the Q for toilet before going to the cafe for a hot drink. That took 30 minutes. I wonder why the museum can't give a grace period of 15 minutes before entry time for patrons to do all this?
Nevertheless, I had fun. First off, I saw the sign that the atelier was open for watercolour workshop. I had fun doing a little piece a la VVG.
All in, the museum itself was worth the entire 2 hours I spent commuting, the half hour in the rain and Qs, and the 5 hours I carefully looked at the artwork of Vincent and his contemporaries and those inspired by him, like David Hockney. If Vincent had but lived another 10 years, he may have evolved into a style as modern as David's. He was that visionary and insightful. I'm glad Vincent left us a huge legacy despite dying young at 37. Such a genius.

THAT WAS AMAZING. honestly as engineer never think about how I impressed by atmosphere of the arts and I must added the best structure of the museum and gallery, by my change I had chance to saw sunflower in special conditions

Great museum that shows the journey of a big painter. Exposition is set up in a great way showing the development of Van Gogh's style and his life journey. Lots of works have interesting backstories explained. Works are grouped by theme, and sometimes presented next to works by other artists that were a source of inspiration to Van Gogh. Amazing museum for both art lovers and people just discovering the art of art loving.

Really enjoyed the museum as VanGogh is one of my fav artist. Lovely and very modern museum located in Museumplein or museum square. Got to see his famous except for Starry Night which is in NY. Tix are only available online and do get booked out so book in advance. I paid for the audio guide which was good and cost an additional euro 5 which came to total of euro25. The only negative is his works are displayed by floors so you keep climbing stairs 3 or 4 floors. There's an elevator but only one.

They do a nice job of mob control so the viewing is enjoyable. They tell a good story on Van Gogh so you get a much better perspective on the man. Gives more meaning to his art. Allow for 2.5 to 3 hours. No photos allowed except for particular areas.

One of my favorite museum. I really like the way the museum has grouped the paintings by era. I am not a big art fanatic or critic, but the way the paintings were grouped made it easy to follow and appreciate the message behind the paintings. I enjoyed listening to Van Gogh's letters because they allow us to see his complex thought process while drawing. The gift shop has good selections at a reasonable price.

Amazing museum! I also visited a temporary exhibition about the Japan influences on the Van Gogh works (also included on the ticket) and it was very interesting to understand better his style and genius. The audio guide is good and plenty of informations and extra content, very useful. Highly recommended

Quite busy place, but worth to visit. Tickets are available only online, so book them few days before planned visit. There are few floors with very interesting galleries, beautiful painting and details about Van Gogh life. There is shop with souvenirs and gadgets, coffee stand, but not too many places to sit. So they don't want you to spend too much time there, what can be justified. Planty of people would like to see it, so if you need a rest, go outside. Highly recommended museum.
