An intense immersion on Van Gogh's life and art. Great experience! One of the most intelligent and modern museums design ever.
An intense immersion on Van Gogh's life and art. Great experience! One of the most intelligent and modern museums design ever.
I was really positive surprised. So manny beautiful paintings and a good view in the life of Vincent van Gogh. All the important paintings are here to see.
I would advice you too take an audio guide. They have them in many languages. The guide gives you really extra info, especially useful because the info next to the paintings is sometimes scares and many other people want to read it at the same time. So its more relaxed to stand back and listen.
The museum is easy accessible, spacious and has a wardrobe.
Enjoy your time.
I looooved it. I loved being able to see a great collection of such a great artist with my own naked eyes and hear about the background and artistic highlights of some of the pieces. I took a star off only because I found the audio guidance a bit inconvenient the way you have to trace the numbers around the circle and there is no particular order to it. And some explanations were repetitive too.
A must see museum if your visiting Amsterdam / Holland! Could be interesting! I enjoyed my time there
Wonderful to learn about Van Gogh's life. The letters between his brother and himself were very interesting, a nice look into the brilliant artists mind. Makes his paintings so much more magical and awe-inspiring.
Temporary exhibit was phenomenal. Gift shops were good but a little overpriced. Very beautiful museum with interactive displays and lots of information. Well worth the money if you're interested in the artist.
Very well structured and organized, lack of interaction. Depending on audio guide you can spend from 45-60 mins to two hours.
Photos not allowed:)
Wonderful museum in my opinion. I saw Very exciting creating, either that was in google street view)
What a lovely museum. Art, history and character is all you can ask for. The only thing missing is 'starry night' but for the rest, just Absolutely brilliant and breathtaking.
We booked online so avoided the large queue. It was a very impressive collection of his work so takes a while to look round. I found it would be better if there was more benches to sit on while reading all the information. But i love van goghs work so love it.
Amazing! Just go and enjoy all the art. There is a nice cafe and shop to also enjoy.
You have to buy tickets in advance there is no way to do it in person. The museum is great and informative, the problem is that being Van Gogh it is way too crowded. But if you are an impressionist fan this museum is a must
Surprised that the twists in the movie Loving Vincent was not tackled at all in the museum. Perhaps too controversial? 3 hours was not enough to see all the paintings in detail, and didn't have the time to see the other exhibition, Dreams
Amazing museum, even if you're not into art. The visits have a scheduled time, so it is easier to book the tickets online. The physical ticket office is close but not in the museum, which can be confusing sometimes. When you come in, go straight to the cloak room area since you are not allowed to go in with almost any carry on and because of that huge lines form very fast (at least the cloak room price is included in the ticket). The tickets are not very cheap, but this is definitely a must see museum in Amsterdam.
Wonderful, five floors depicting the life and influences of van gogh. Beautiful gallery
Fabulous place. Gallery is spacious, building itself is also very interesting structurally. The best collection of Van Gogh anywhere. Great selection of other artists too. An absolute must see for anyone visiting Amsterdam.
I ve got to say: when I go to a place that I e heard of before, I tend to expect the worst when tourists are all over the place. Here, I was surprised at how well put together the exhibit was and how well it told the story of Van Gogh. I left pleasantly surprised and overall it was a good experience having booked a timed entry.
Van Gogh was a genius. This is an excellent and suitable museum to remember him with.
This Museum chronicles the life and works of Van Gogh beautifully. I spent about 2 hours there and learned many things. I was touch by viewing the original works. Be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time from a travel agent or online. They allow you in the museum only at the time posted on your ticker ( you can be up to 30 minutes late, I believe). We'll worth the wait.
Nice museum with interesting information about the artists and the paintings.
I would definitely go there again..van Gogh has such an interesting story.
Very nice museum, well organized. Suggested the audio guide
Interactive: shows you some details you would not notice. Good display of the painting, you can access and have a very close look.
From known works they have Almond Blossom, Self Portraits, Bedroom, Sunflowers. Starry nights is in New York
Would recommend buying ticket on line to avoid the unnecessary queue and plan your visit better.
Time needed: 3-4 hours
Great atmosphere and lots to learn. Most definitely recommend a visit!
Entrance price 19. Its important to buy in advance because sometimes its crowded. There are self-portrait of Van Gogh in diferent years. There is one of the Sunflowers. The Room. Its not allowed to make photos inside.
Great museum, loved it. Only issue is there are far better managed museums. Ticketing machine is outside, who likes to cue outside in the rain? Website wasn't working, apparently servers were down in Amsterdam? Anyway turns our there's a lot of places that sell the tickets near by for the same price and all legit. Back storage definitely chaotic! Quite a noisy museum.
Great art to see also the building is interesting new design and modern architecture. When I went it was 19 euro a ticket and you can only buy online
Beautiful museum. If you like Van Gogh, you will not be disappointed.
If you're a Van Gogh fan then you will fall in love with this museum went to the Hockney exhibition and it was wonderful!
Better than expected. Gutted there was the painting me and my husband wanted to see
Still one of the nicest art museums I've ever seen! It provides a good overview of Vincent's life.
Everything is nicely organized. long and slow line for wardrobe.but very nice museum.
Fantastic! If you go to just one museum in Amsterdam, make it this one. I spent more than three hours here and could have spent longer. I caught the wonderful "Vincent and Japan" exhibit, which shed a lot of light on the development of Vincent's style. This is unique to Amsterdam, which is another reason to go here.
Fantastic compilation of Van Gogh's work, beautiful displays, with historical references if Van Gogh's life. Also Gauguin, Monet & various other contemporary artists of Vincent's time. A definite must.
Surreal experience. Strongly recommend the media package.
Best time to go is when they first open! It got really crowded early
Amazing. Take an audio guide. There are audio guides in brazilian portuguese :)
Very thought through museum.
With the audioguide which provides you a ton of interesting information about Van Goghs live and works you can go with your own pace trough the museum. The artworks are presented in the best way and at the museum shop you can get some nice Art Prints.
Incredible. Very informative. The volume of works is amazing.
Totally worth the visit!
I loved the museum and the paintings. If you follow the chronological order you'll be able to follow Can Gogh's steps and how he changed technics according to where he was.
There are some big pieces missing but still very happy with what I saw. If you purchase a " I am Amsterdam" card then this is included in the price.
It's not very big - I was left under the impression that Paris' impressionists exhibition had more of Van Gohg. The organization is very great though.
Make sure you reserve your ticket online, and photos are not allowed inside the exhibition rooms. Very well organized museum in chronological order including a demonstration of what inspired Van Gogh as well as a collection of the works inspired by him. Nicely done iPad description with educative information on the painting.
Such a lovely museum with a strange cafeteria. They closed for a half hour due to restocking during lunch hour.
They would not even provide water or let me purchase a bottle. Very disappointing!
Another, absolutely fantastic place, enjoyed the whole experience.
An excellent place to visit!
Very convenient and educational institution. Cordial staff.
For the full details of his life and some of his art this is a great way to learn his story.
But dispite the cost and booked entrance times it was crowded and I had recently seen some Van Gogh at the National Gallery in London, for free.
Really great visit! This museum is very well curated, mostly Van Gogh works but paired with some of the art that was influencing him. It gets extremely busy so you will benefit your trip by purchasing your tickets online, in advance and picking an early entry time. They have some of his most famous works and, unlike most museums, it's small enough to visit in a morning and still fully enjoy it without rushing or taking a whole day.
Just a shame! I booked two tickets in advance for 24 euro each with entrance at 21.30. At 22.00 the staff of the Museum litterarly told us we had to go out. Immediately. In the meantime, at the ground floor, people were dancing high volume and bad quality music.
Nobody advised us we had only 30 minutes to give a glance to 250 paintings!! The worst museum experience ever had in my life. Sorry because I really appreciate Van Gogh, but the way you are trying to get money is a shame for Art and for Holland.
Easy enough to go to, lines are manageable except for the coat check. As for the art, I think you know what you're gonna get. No surprises here.
Very well organised, it is one of the most interesting museums in the world. Several notes and explanations near the pictures guide the visitor in a journey through Van Gogh's life and experiences as an artist as well as a man.
It was just amazing! A once in a lifetime chance to view such precious works of art. Don't think twice about going, just go, you won't regret it.
This a truly amazing place. It is possible to see and study all phases of his life. So many great pictures including some by others who influenced him.
Expertly done museum. The exhibits were absolutely beautiful. If you didn't know much about Van Gogh, this place offers a ton on information about a fairly prolific artist. A plethora of works are provided, as well as some of his friend's works as well as artists he has influenced. Make sure to get reservations, this place is a must see while in Amsterdam.
Vincent Van Gogh!! My favourite artist... sad story as his self portraits. Nice, contemporary environment. each floor is dedicated to a different age of his paintings! If you love art you should definetely visit this musem. The shop is also really good with big variety of products! If they were 6 stars I would put it!
Wonderful museum dedicated to Van Gogh's life and masterpieces, expertly and lovingly curated. Well worth the visit.
Amazing work by an amazing artist, the facility is well organised there is a cafe and gift shop inside. The tickets to Van gough allow you admission into a selection of Milet's work.
Great museum a mast for all Art lovers.
Try ordering your tickets online.
Do pay the extra cost for the multimedia tour. It amazingly lifted the visit!
The staff is rude. They have no comprehension of customer service. The museum was unexpected closed for the first time in history on the day my ticket was for. They would make no exceptions for a single person. Prior to the final "NO". I had been there trying to get in five times including one attempt later in the day hoping they might reopen after the game which they did not. The manager was happy to give the final emphatic"NO". I've been basically stolen from. Don't worry about pick pockets, they're not real. The event organizers are the real thieves.
You can spend anywhere from an hour to all day here. The audio guide is well worth the money. For 5 euro, I feel it adds plenty to the experience and it is interactive. It is paced with a narrative that progresses as you ascend the museum.
A very troubled, talented guy. A very interesting place. We are definitely not artistic. But see the art in his pieces.
Museum is excellent as always. We try to visit at least once a year. They did great job dealing with covid situation: directions , sanitizer dispensers, staff instructions. But visitors are completely different situation - people behave recklessly and it is annoying. Overall great visit.
We like Van Gogh so we loved this Museum. If you like paintings at all, I think this is a must see. Audio tour is very good.
Don't wait in the LONG line. Buy your tickets before hand on their website.
Fantastic collection of letters and paintings from van Gogh and truly brings his life to life. All information is displayed in Dutch and English, including the audio features. However, it is always busy so book in advance!
Love this museum,
Quiet, spacious rooms and many different exhibitions.
The ticket is a bit expensive but worth it.
I learn a bit more about van gogh as a person and also as a artist
Amazing art. Massively overcrowded. Crowd management and control is non-existent.
It would have been great if this museum could include "The starry night" in it. Or at least mention that he draw it there, because the people who don't know Van Gogh might end up returning back from this museum without knowing about the most famous painting of his as this is not mentioned anywhere.
Truly amazing museum. I believe many people are familiar with Van Gogh, but this museum really went in depth to his life and mental illness. Even more than just his artwork, this museum is a view into his life. The special exhibit of Dreaming Van Gogh was especially stupendous because it gives you a sense of his anxiety and depression. These are touching exhibits that should be seen if you are in the area. Best to go early as it can get pretty busy.
Very good place to visit. you might not see the most popular artworks on your first visit cz they rotate arts weekly.
On a dreary Wednesday in September this place was packed. The place is definitely a 5 stars museum, and the location is great too. However, if you don t like people you ll feel like you re enduring them just to see the works of Van Gogh. Many people with the audio tours are rude here, more so than other museums...they are completely ignorant of anyone else in the museum, then they stick their noses about 5 cm away from the paintings
Amazing detailed evaluation of Van Hogg s work. The media helped me to understand what I was looking at. Amazing to he t a full understanding of an one of a kind artist.
So much info about his life. I felt I got to know him!!
The museum exceeded my expectations! Spent 3 hours there admiring Gogh's works and learning about his life. In the end I was tired but fully satisfied. Buy your tickets early for a certain entry time, we had to wait for 1.5 hour but the park between Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh's museum is beautiful and there are lots of souvenir shops.
A modern and interesting museum. Just went to see the expo van Gogh - David Hockney. The ticket gives you access to the main exposition of Van Gogh. The free cloackroom is more than welcome.
NO PICTURES ALLOWED! These 3 stars are for the museum NOT for the actual art works! Art works are absolutely awesome and it s a great collection of his works and the museum is presenting his works creatively. The lightning in the museum is not very good and for seeing some of the works you need to move to different angels to see the art as it doesn t have a good lightning! The other thing is you are not allowed to take a picture or video and the reason they have is too much inconvenience for other visitors right! It s really nice to spend time to see the actual art works and not take too many pictures but people like to have their own pictures! I was walking around and seeing people taking pictures ridiculously!! They were trying to hide their phones and take pictures!!!! and I know all the art works are online on the website too see in details. And the ticket price is 19 Euro and if you want the audio guid you have to pay 5 more Euro!!!!
One of the best art museums I ve ever been to. The collection is extensive, and the layout is easy to follow. Highly recommend if you re in Amsterdam and have time. Just make sure to buy your tickets online to save time!
A must visit in Amsterdam! Do be prepared to spend around 3 hours or more in the museum
Comfortable meseum for spending 2 hrs. Great arrangement for deeply knowing the genius artist.
An amazing artwork collection that resembles the lifetime of the great artist Vincent Van Gogh.
If you are tired of really big art museums, this is great especially if you like Van Gogh. Can not take pictures of art works.
Nice. Not big, easy to visit in about an hour. You can see some of Van Gogh's best known paintings like The sunflowers, Almond blossoms and the Bedroom in Arles. Cons: They don't let you take pictures (even without flash) and it gets pretty crowded.
Van Gogh's art is excellent. The museum is good. However sometimes there is too many people to be able to contemplate a piece properly. Also, some small kids were very noisy and naughty when I visited it. A member of staff should have had a word with the parents.
Nice place but it is hard to be a best in such a modern city. The paths are fruitful in descriptions and matched paint positions. However I feel a little bit disappointed compared to Rijks museum. It it very easy to get there by a tram.
Very nice museum, and also for children - they have different workshops weekly where they create paintings themselves while the parents can take their time exploring the museum
I absolutely loved it here! Remember to book your time slot!
Absolutely amazing museum. First entry time has a line around the building. Around noon when I left there wasn't a line anymore. Recommend getting tickets in advance as certain times sell out. Definitely get the audio guide. It makes the pieces so much more meaningful. Such stunning work.
One lady of the museum stay following me all the room, I felt very uncomfortable. I know how follow rules. (All the pictures are from allowed sites)
