Incredible collection of works by this wide ranging artist. We loved the Sunflowers special exhibit, very educational.

Very well organized. It gets very busy by noon so make an online reservation for early in the day.
Book and go early, it gets busy. We spent four hours there and loved it. We found the audio guide insightful.
Excelente museum. I wish a starry night was here. 20 euros is a lot.
Better than I imagined. The gallery told an amazing story. Lots of art from Vincent, his friends and inspirational artists spanning three floors. Excellent gallery and all the involved working there.
A true testament to the Genius that was Vincent van Gogh.
Great museum, however it cannot cater for the sheer volume of visitors it allows to enter. In some areas it is virtually impossible to see any of the work on display. Definitely does NOT cater for people who have vertigo. Disappointed.
This is my first top best attraction in Amsterdam! I just love arts!! Stunning! You really need an audio so you are able to enjoy to the fullest!
Great museum, very well organized.
Nice souvenir store, really pricey though.
You can find Van Gogh in museums all over the world, but it doesn't compare to the experience of this museum. "Oh look, here's a Van Gogh!" is very different than willing through the timeline of his life and work and seeing the progression of his styles and studies.
What a great museum it is.
Many pictures of genius Van Gogh.
Smoke before you go and take audioguide (must), and you will fall in love with this famous painter.
Loved this museum! I recommend this museum if you are near Amsterdam.
Definitely a must-see when in Amsterdam. Don t forget to book online ahead of time or else you might miss a slot during your stay in the city. Suggest you go through the galleries the way they are supposed to be done i.e. from 1st floor to the 4th floor. Go on a Friday when it s open until 9PM and you can have drinks.
A great collection of works by one of the greatest artists ever. Not just paintings, but drawings and every letter he wrote to his brother Theo. Paintings by artists who inspired him as well as those he inspired. An afternoon well spent.
This is a phenomenal collection of Van Gogh's work with a comprehensive audio guide. Get your tickets before you arrive to Amsterdam or you may be disappointed.
Wonderfully present3d museum and history of Vincent van Gogh.
i loved the museem but kind of dissapointed because i was expecting to see his most famous paintings and they wernt there and there is nothing to tell you that . i found out online when i was there
Very interesting, the entire family learned so much about his life.
Beautiful Van Gogh collection..!! Must go for art lovers..!!
Nothing can capture the colours of Van Goghs paintings as they are in real life. It's amazing to see them and other works, the museum is a fitting venue for such treasures and still maintains a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff who made our visit so pleasant.
Superb range of paintings. Wasn't a great fan of Van Gogh however pleasantly surprised.
Very nice museum, only criticism is that the special exhibits are a bit mislead on what you will see. One is on the sunflowers and there was only one of five paintings at the museum.
Totally worth to visit! Remember to take the multimedia guide, it's totally worth the price. The special exposition the dream of Van Gogh it's astonishing. I had the luck to have also the access to the temporary section dedicated to Laval and Gauguin
Sorry but I didn't not feel this place. And could not recommend it didn't feel personal to me. But the history of van Gogh's life I found more interesting than the art.
We were able to purchase tickets right at the museum, as we did not prepare ahead of time. When we went to the machine we were able to book slots of time when we would visit the museum, so there definitely isn't the feel of "stay as long as you want" but more of a structured "hurry through and get out we are very busy". There is a lot of physical security...almost to the point of distraction, I get that art is very expensive but the amount of security constantly standing around you and walking behind you and having 2 of them at every door frame takes away from attempting to get lost in the artwork and enjoying your time in the museum. The building is about 3 floors packed with a few hundred of Van Gogh's drawings and paintings. They have assisted tour guide devices so you can listen to the facts the museum has for you in the comfort of your own native language. Getting around the museum is very easy, it is a large building, open concept flooring and wide hallways so you aren't bumping into any one. As someone who isn't a huge art lover myself I had an enjoyable time and learned a good amount just from doing a casual walk through. I would suggest this as a destination to any one who simply enjoys art and has an hour or two of down time to go an enjoy what the museum has to offer. I would suggest arriving at 10AM like I did, there were no lines and I was able to go through the entire museum in an hour with no rush, when I was leaving however around 11 you could see the lines were getting longer.
Great museum with a fanatic audio tour - i m not normally one for art museums as can often get quite bored but found this really interesting and learnt so much about the very talented Van Gogh!
the museum was well laid out but apart from the sunflowers there wasnt many of his well knkown work
The paintings are very pretty. Students get a discounted ticket at 10 euro. Do make sure that you buy an online ticket.
Great museum, that's all I can say really. I'm not the biggest art enthousiast, but this museum was the first to keep me interested for the full two hours it takes to see the collection. The museum explains everything about Theo, from his first paintings to the last days before his death. Would recommend to pay extra for the audio guide as it's a good addition for some extra insider knowledge.
Loved the Dreams exhibition!! Great place to see Van Gogh's most famous pieces
Even if you aren't an art lover, this trip will plunge you not only into his amazing work but into something different, the very human side of van gogh's world. An absolutely enjoyable walk between masterpieces and history, a sensational mini-pilgrimage to a spectacular artist's life.
Very modern and interactive. Audio guide is easy to use and offers some questions and answers section. Recommend to get tickets at least the day before.
3 floors that tell a coherent story. You need at least 2 hours to visit.
Extremely rude staff. Hope written complaint at service desk reach the board of directors.
Too high the price of admission ticket. Pretty small galleries and quite a reduced collection of pieces.
Gladly you may also find other good van Gogh's works in many highly appreciated museums around the world for free.
If you like to waste some time and money you may waste it right here. Otherwise go somewhere else and enjoy it.
Beautiful museum, a bit expensive, but very informative and with all that's needed to understand and appreciate his life and work.
Interesting to learn more about the artist's personal life and struggles.
Another wonderful art museum, dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh and his art during his short life, his story and paintings that influenced his own. His life's story is told through his artwork on display. This museum is different from the Rijks museum, as photography is not allowed and the focus is on Van Gogh, just one artist. Still, it is well worth your time and money to see and experience it! I learned a lot about him and his life story.
Amazing place, I liked the place and Van Gogh s story.
One of my fav museums. They really make you get to know the real Vincent. An amazing artist, an amazing museum just make sure you spend quality time at no rush, but it does get crowded.
Its very amusing, it took my breath away, such a talent and enthusiasm, so much to see ,great service
Best museum! Enjoyed my experience here. The exhibition is organized in a story line that s easy to follow.
Simply a lovely museum that reflects the geniality of a master.
Best collection of his work displayed over different stages of his life. A must visit
Amazing collection of paintings, different periods and stages. Oil paintings, draws and a great museum. Very nicely lighted, is comfortable and plenty with space to view and get the true spirit of the painter properly. Wide corridors and spaces, glass railings that allow light pass through. The shop has many nice souvenirs and a big amount of books about the painter. One of the greatest collection of Van Gogh's I've ever seen and enjoyed. A must.
Excellent museum, very well organized, unique paintings, Excellent experience
Absolutely loved it. The gift shop was surprisingly cheap. Great show, not too crowded and a lot of interesting things to look at along with the paintings; Vincent s and Theo s letter, the van Gogh family, other artwork that inspired V. van Gogh etc. Highly recommend visiting.
Vincent Van Gogh has always been my favorite artist. Getting to see a museum dedicated to him was truly amazing. I spent around 2 hours in the museum, and was able to see each painting, and even the temporary exhibit (which was phenomenal). Afterwards, I went to the gift shop. Many things were overpriced, but I bought a few postcards and a Van Gogh Museum tote bag. I wish they had a postcard that said Van Gogh Museum in the front. Also, no pictures allowed. Respect Gogh!
An amazing experience for any Gogh fan, or any fan of art!
Great experience. Can be a bit busy but it's to be expected
Really great, but they need to work on the coat check. Just get lockers!!! The lines to put away and retrieve your items were too loooooooooong! You can't bring in backpacks, so you HAVE to check it and they make it as inconvenient as possible. Otherwise the museum is beautiful.
The story of his life and how he found his unique way of painting was interesting. The security staff on the floor have a chip on their shoulder. Saw the same painting of van Gogh Sunflowers in The National Gallery in London a few days earlier so not sure which museum is claiming to have the real painting or if any of them are real at all...
A wonderful and worth visiting museum, however the lighting in some of the halls + Overall wayfinding of the museum could have been more convenient and better.
Overall it was a good experience but lighting in some areas was pretty bad, especially in self-portrait section. I could not see the painting due to reflections standing right in front of it. I had to step on one side and then other. This takes away from the experience. Not sure why lights were positioned so badly and also don't understand some lights shining directly on paintings given that Van Gough paintings have colours that are not lightfast and have already degraded over time. I hope the curator of the museum reads this and takes steps to fix the lighting issues.
Visited during David Hockney exhibition. Took almost 5hours to cover both Hockney and Gogh artworks.
amazing paintings, the audioguide was old fashioned and did not include commentary about any painting shown that was not by Van Gogh.
A very nice museum to house the master pieces of such a great artist, the audio guide could be better with more details for the exhibits, the layout and the way the museum is structured is great and nice to see.
Not a very big museum but enough to house the essence of such a master
Great selection of his works and history, many paintings and prints from his collection on show. The shop is terrific, huge variety of items
Great place to learn about Vincent. Liked the sunflower exhibition as well.
It was a fantastic experience. The building is divided into three levels each of them has magnificent things .The entrance is quite expensive 20 but if you like art it worth it .If you want to learn all about Van Gogh this is your chance .Don t miss it ..
Open room views, popular attraction so plan to explore for at least 5 hours, worth every minute for an extrodinary artist with a rich history.
They had audio tours in nearly every language to guide you through the museum's exhibits and the pieces, but experiencing the museum without the guided tour was fun, too. There are interactive exhibits on one of the upper floors and the variety of pieces kept things interesting. In addition to his art, there are furniture items from his home, letters he wrote to friends, and a board of all of his family members to show his lineage. There's also a tiny cafe with pastries, meals, wine, and juices in addition to any coffee concoction you could think of for when you get hungry after.
Brilliant. He was. Despite booking online for skip-the-queue tickets we had to queue a little because this wonderful museum is packed at any hour on any day. It is so worth it to see the works that are not so commonly known. I was exhausted after it, but glad that my short visit to Amsterdam included this Van Gogh experience. He was a poor tormented soul, but so generous in his attitude to other artists and refreshingly not into painting naked women, favouring landscape and skyscape instead. The bits about his time in the asylum and the paintings of the garden are very moving.
appropriate amount of displays and you get to see Van Gogh's famous self portrait and the sunflowers!
After being to the Louvre museum in Paris this was kind of a let down. You get the feeling it's going to be good but in reality it's very boring there was not much to see. Mostly the same pictire over and over again.
The museum is reasonably priced and contains a good variety of work by Van Gogh and other artists. If you are a fan of this man's work it is well worth a visit.
With all the lovely buildings in the area, it was slightly disappointing that the building itself was a lot more modern, and perhaps lacking a little in character.
Amazing to see about the history and artwork of this maniac
Fantastic museum, excellent for kids - kids treasure hunt was a great way of getting them to spend more time looking at the paintings. Spent three hours here including lunch in the cafe.
Perfect place for any art lover, and I d that anyone who wasn t super into art anyway would still enjoy it because of Van Gogh s interesting art style. A lot of interesting information about the artist, and a lot of artworks that I hadn t ever seen of his anywhere online. It was great to see other sides of his art style, and to view his works close up.
A worthy museum with many more artists than Van Gogh. But the Van Gogh pieces were amazing.
A great insight into Vincent's life and work. An outstanding venue that is well managed and operated. The food choices in the cafeteria were limited.
Was good except that you had to walk UP the stairs to follow his life story rather than come down. OK for young but not so for the not so young.
Awesome gallery with a lot of stories about Vincent. I recommend the tour with audioguide to know better the paintings and facts.
Lighting were not enough for the pictures also some staffs were impolite, racist while warning the audience...
Pricey, but worth it, since you will learn a lot about Van Gogh!
Well organized and thought through.
Buying tickets online prior to your arrival is highly advised as well as presenting early on as the galleries tend to be packed throughout the day.
Some exhibitions are seasonal so one should heavily consider returning.
Cool to see Van Gough and other artist pieces in person. I for one am not into old world art what so ever, but thought I should experience it. Get your tickets online instead of dropping in for a walk up ticket. If you buy the headset tour it is inexpensive yet you will learn a lot. Prepare to bump elbows constantly with others crowding each painting. I don't know if it is a must see for the Average Joe but it is good to see a large collection of paintings from such an influential artist if you have the chance.
What an amazing experience! I recommend taking the time to listen to the letters and audio. Also, make sure you buy whatever souvenirs you want, as you can't go back to the store without another entrance fee.
I always been a massive fan of Van Gogh, it's amazing how they organized it and watch the painting.
In love, the only shame is not been able to take pictures inside but apart from that is an amazing way to discover such a great artist!!!
This museum did not disappoint me but also did not satisfy my expectation(too excessive expectation?). The main reason was that there seemed to be not so many artworks by Van Gogh. A few famous works by Gogh were not seen. Nevertheless, this museum was impressive because I had a chance to meet Gogh indirectly, everywhere my eyes touched. The food and the view were good in Museum restaurant.
+Rijksmuseum Amsterdam was more impressive.
Great museum! Three floors devoted to Van Gogh and all of it is wonderful. Lots of famous paintings including The Room, and Sunflowers.
Could spend 2 to 3 hours just looking at everything.
Can t take any pictures, even with a cellphone so keep that in mind. They re pretty strict with this too: I saw a staff asking a woman to delete the pictures of her phone.
Overall perfect !
Interesting background knowledge on most of the pictures and facts about VG's life, family and friends.
Nicely fleshed out museum, it has a great collection and the staff is very friendly, keep in mind that no photos are allowed inside, they have free storage for backpacks and jackets/coats.
Was really nice but there can be too much people, issue we did not have with other museums booked online.
Incredible place! It is amazing to be able to follow Van Gogh history line trough his paintings, drawings and letters!
I really feel like we know Vincent van Gogh much better now and can understand him and his art more....
