In the past week, I've spoken to 5 different service representatives. Every one of them was impatient, short and unclear. Every phone call I would hang up the phone more confused than before I spoke to them. The biggest problem I had was that each representative gave me different information and instruction than the previous. Not to mention, after I would ask even one clarifying question, each of the assistants would become strangely frustrated and extremely impatient, then repeat the same insufficient information. Needless to say, our conversation would then go in circles and I would make up some excuse to end the pointless phone call.
The worst part is: My solution ended up being much simpler than any of them said. I only figured it out because I gave up and called our accountant. My advice to anyone trying to call the Utah State Tax Commission for answers is to call at least 3 times, know that they are going to be rude no matter what you say, then ask the same questions each phone call. Afterwards, compare information and go with the most consistent answer and hope it's right.
