My first time here was with a group of girls for a surprise birthday wine tasting. It is a beautiful venue and the staff is very friendly. Honestly, I'm not a big Virginia wine fan, however, this winery had some great VA wines that I fell in love with. We did the private wine tasting in their quaint, cozy lodge then headed outside for a picnic, where they have ample picnic bench tables. It's awesome outside b/c they have a family friendly side and adult only side. Not only are they a great local winery, but also very giving. They donated a couple wine tastings for my company charity golf tournament! I would definitely recommend this local winery for any special occasion such as a girl's day out or a romantic tasting/picnic lunch!

Nice for family and date if u love wine We was there on the summer time and on the Covid19 spread so we was have u sit outside and chill with the simple test on that time was to hot around 1-3 pm month summer time but we still have a good picture at this place
Great atmosphere, clean and comfortable. Friendly service. Good wine tasting. Outside seating is enjoyable with a nice view of the pond and vine groves.
I've been to Bull Run Winery since it opened, worked for Vint Hill and Pearmund Cellars which used to be affiliated with Bull Run, and have been to 50+ wineries in the state of Virginia and have never felt so uncomfortable that I had to leave. First, I've never been greeted by a security guard before asking what was in my water bottle. Then once we got inside I'm greeted again by a host asking if I have outside food or drink, which we didn't bring inside because of the signs we saw. He then asked if I was bringing a group and had to approve of me pushing two tables together. At this point I feel like I'm about to get on an airplane after being grilled by TSA practically. We see people on the closed in porch with outside food, so we ask the host if were allowed to have food on the porch and he says yes, only because it's cold out, so my dad and husband go grab the food. I notice the security guard stopping them at the entrance and immediately get the host because I'm afraid the security guard doesn't know what the host just told me about outside food being allowed on the porch today. On my way out I overhear the security guard telling my dad no "hard" coolers are allowed in, even after being inspected like our other "soft" coolers because people will hide hard liquor in the bottom of them (only hard coolers, mind you, not soft... Ok). So at this point we decide we're leaving because of the amount of hassle we've been through in the first 10 minutes here. The worst part is we have my grandma with us and she's handicapped, so we finally had her seated and ready to enjoy the day and we had to leave.
Now I'm not saying they told us to leave. We decided to on our own. And the manager said she would let us bring in our cooler, empty it, and then we'd have to take it back. I get it, I'm a teacher, you let one person bring in their cooler, then others are going to raise Cain that they're not allowed. They're just keeping to their rules, I understand. But the overall spirit and experience we felt from the moment we arrived was stressful and unwelcoming because of the excessive rules and questions we had to answer on our way in. There are plenty wineries in the area that provide a relaxing atmosphere that we will go to from now on that are much more affordable too, if I might add.
I have enjoyed every experience I've had there from social gatherings to charity events! The facility is amazing and the staff is great!! I would give it 10 stars if I could
My family threw my brother a 40th birthday party here and it was awesome. Even though the weather wasn't cooperating, we had a covered outdoor area that was convenient to setup food, access to the great wine selection available, and the great live music that was playing in the background. Great atmosphere, great venue, extremely friendly staff and great wines, all within 5 miles of home...can't beat it.
Got Married here in May and it was beautiful! Great atmosphere and venue, not to mention the fabulous wines. Many of my guests have commented to us about how the whole experience far exceeded their expectations set from previous weddings at other places. My highest praise and thanks to the staff for help making one of the brightest days in our lives!
We had a longer than expected layover at Dulles and skipped for a tasting at The Winery at Bull Run! Highly recommend this stop if you re in the area period, or with a 3hour window to spare. RYAN was amazing, facilitated our tasting and was very knowledgeable. Thank you for making our layover fun! -Beanca, Lindsey, Kristen
Bull Run is doing a great job of social distancing and covid-19 protocols. Unfortunately this means the food and service is understandably not as awesome as it used to be. There is no indoor access, they still have live music on the weekends, you can do a self-guided wine tasting. No glasses, you can use plastic cups or buy glasses. Make a reservation on their website for a 2-hour window for up to 6 people.
We really enjoyed our first experience here. A couple friends had come here before and told us we had to check it out. Really beautiful setup, and in a historic Civil War area. They even add their own museum with local artifacts. The decor and service were both great. Really good wines, music playing, we will definitely be coming back.
I concur with Mike Smith's comment about the 80s party on Sat Night. People had to park up and down Rt 29 and wait 45 min to an hr to get wine. At one point Rt 29 Southbound was shut down!
Unlike other reputable venues who address their patrons concerns the Winery at Bull Run just deletes the events along with the comments and pictures in the hopes that people forget what a ClusterF**k it was.
Hopefully other people who attended review as well!
What a fantastic winery! Come for a tasting or bring a picnic and enjoy the landscape with a bottle of wine. I loved the viognier and bought a bottle to share with friends back home. I do wish the wine club membership was a little better. Here you do not get any bottle per quarter just discounts and free tastings.
Great winery in Virginia. The Winery at Bull Run lies on 225 acres adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park. beautiful winery. plenty of outdoor areas to dine and enjoy a long day of wine tasting. cheese platters and cold cuts. Great way to meet like mined people. Highly recommended.
The winery at bull run is lovely, and the live music is great. It's spacious, and I love the fireplace! It's a truly divine setting. And the wines are delish!
Wine is OK... but very very over priced. $12 for tasting and most bottles at $28-29+ ..umm no thanks. Also only 2-3 glasses of the tasting were actually decent out of 10-12. Best thing they have here is location, seating and scenery.
My fiancee and I are members at this winery and have never had a bad experience here. Their Pinot Noir is incredibly unique. Everyone we've taken has fallen in love. Stop here. It's great.
Wine was definitely Virgina wine. The Delaney is the only one I found to be good. The merlot was also ok. The scenery and service was fantastic. Definitely go with friends to get drunk. The wine is also over priced. It was a fun experience.
Thank you to the Bull Run Winery for donating a beautiful wine basket to The Paul Stefan Home Annual Gala! The basket helped us raise money to support women in crisis pregnancies. Their support is greatly appreciated!
The winery is beautiful, the wine delicious and the staff fabulous. Make sure you check it out!
The closest winery to D.C., the Winery at Bull Run's best feature is its sprawling, scenic grounds. It's located just off Lee Highway (Route 29) and you drive down a long gravel road before you see the winery. There's a vineyard on the left across from the parking lot, where they grow the grapes for the Norton wine.
The tasting room is pretty spacious. Vintage barnwood and oak beams create lofty ceilings and a comfortable atmosphere. There are three separate tasting counters which is smart for minimizing crowds at one particular spot. In the middle, there are some tables and chairs for folks to drink and snack. There are even a few couches in one corner to lounge in. They displayed artifacts and relics from the Civil War found on the property such as muskets found on the grounds, which I thought was really neat and added a historical component to the winery that doesn't exist in other wineries. There's a porch outside the tasting room with tables and chairs (including rocking chairs), as well as a small stage for musicians to sing and play songs.
The setup outside is the real kicker. They have designated areas for adults 21+ and those with children which I think is very clever. Surrounded by wooden fences, both areas have wooden benches to sit and enjoy some wine and soak up the sun. On the adults 21+ section, you can see the ruins of the original Entwisle House and it's been converted as a patio area and also used as the platform for wedding ceremonies. The outdoor seating area is very open and lovely. Folks drank wine, chatted, and even played cornhole. When I went, there was a BBQ station and they'll have other restaurants and caterers to offer food during the summer, so you can get other chow besides cheese and meats.
Now for the tastings, it's $10 for nine wines, $12 if you want to keep their etched wine glass. All of the tasting wines are available for $9 a glass. Plenty of both red and white wine to try, such as their 2011 Merlot, 2011 Meritage Reserve, 2012 Petit Verdot, 2012 Pinot Gris, 2011 Chardonnay, 2012 Delaney, etc. Dessert/fruit wines - Classic Blueberry and Fort - are available by the glass or by bottle. Whether you like light, sweet whites or complex reds, there's a wine for everyone to try. I came here with a group and after the tasting was over, we got bottles of the 2011 Meritage, 2012 Pinot Gris, and 2012 Delaney to drink outside. When you buy bottles to drink at the winery, they'll give it to you on ice in a metal pail.
The winery is rife with history and provides a beautiful view of preserved farmland from the 19th century. It adjoins over 5,000 countryside acres of the historic Manassas Battlefield. So not only are you able to sample some award-winning Virginia wines, you're also getting a view into Virginia history.
Historical winery in nearby location. Very friendly staff and servers. Wine tasting included 7 varieties of their offerings, 3 white and 4 red. Pours we're not generous, but enough to judge the quality of the wine. Unfortunately, the reds lacked maturity which was disappointing. Of the whites, the Pino Gris was acceptable but not extraordinary. Come for the Historical experience and the atmosphere, but perhaps not for the wine.
Fantastic wine! I am a wine club member and often gift bottles of their wine to friends and family. Everyone I have given a bottle to asks me to bring another bottle or two next time I see them! They also have a 21 and over section and a section for people with kids which is very nice if you don't have kids and want to have a nice relaxing quiet time at a winery!
We have been visiting The Winery At Bull Run since it first opened, and love it! The location couldnt be better! Their wines are superior and the staff is amazing! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you have an awesome visit! We have been to many of their events, Music festivals, Wine tastings just to name a few (check out thier calendar there are so many more to choose from) Eddie Fam and Natasha Hamad of the Event department do a fantastic job keeping everything fun and interesting!
I went to this winery a few years ago and had a wonderful experience sipping wine out of actual glasses while sitting outside on the main deck overlooking the picturesque landscape. So I had high expectations when I went yesterday and those expectations were shot straight to hell. I made a reservation ahead of time (the winery charges a non-refundable fee for this and the fee does not go towards your purchase of wine) thinking that they were using the reservations to aid in social distancing and crowd control. Wrong! The place was packed, and we had to wait almost 20 minutes just to get a parking spot. Then, after being seated, we had to get up and wait 30+ minutes in food and beverage lines that were reminiscent of poorly designed, understaffed concert venues, and most people weren't social distancing or wearing masks. And then the wine was served in cheap, disposable plastic cups and there were no crackers or cutlery with the tiny cheese "platter." They don't allow you to bring in water bottles, and to my knowledge, complimentary water was not available; instead they charged $2 a bottle for water that likely costs less than $5 a case. It just felt like we were being nickle and dimed while getting a sub par experience. I know some changes needed to be made in the age of 'rona, but this place seemed to be milking it to cut costs, pack as many people in as possible, and charge them as much as possible for a cheap-feeling experience. Our mistake for trying to get out and about for a good time at what we thought might be a safe venue. Maybe they'll be better post-pandemic, but for now, I would avoid them. You're better off buying Trader Joe's wine, cheese, and crackers and just hanging out at home.
We love the Winery at Bull Run! Not only do they have some of the best local wine, but the grounds are beautiful and cozy, the staff are fun loving, and it's also a great place to hang out with friends and family (it's even kid friendly!). There's also great live music on the weekends, which always makes the visit enjoyable.
What a great winery! We went for the wine and donut pairing and stayed for a shared bottle. It was busy but not overly crowded. Definitely want to visit when there's warmer weather so we can take advantage of their picnic tables.
Beautiful views, great atmosphere, fantastic wines, terrific location and exceptional customer service. I had my birthday party there in the fall and I could not have asked for a better event. The Winery staff catered to our every need and made it a memorable experience. Can't wait to go back.
First. I will say I am a member. But even if I wasn't. I'm so impressed with how they're handling Covid rules. Tables are spaced out well. And like Always. The staff is not only friendly. But you can see they care about their guest. If you're looking for somewhere to go and feel Safe. Bull Run Winery should be on your list.
First time going to a winery and it was an excellent experience. Not too crowded and the wines (white) that I had were just right. Definitely recommend as a nice date or just for fun experience.
Purchased a gift card online as a holiday gift for family members who live in the area (I live several states away and do not have access to get to the winery in person). Once I received the e-gift card, I was alerted via the gift card details that the gift card can only be used online. Called to inquire and was informed that this gift card can t be used for tastings or tours. I am disappointed that this information wasn t mentioned prior to my purchase as I bought the gift card for my family s use at the winery and now they can only use it online rather than in store.
Plenty of seating outdoor seating. Nice view of the vineyard and mountains in the distance. Wish the prices were a little lower, but over really enjoyed visiting here.
I just discovered this place while scrolling online. Who knew there was such a cool vineyard 6 miles from my house. My friend and I decided paid a visit Saturday after work and do some winetasting and stroll around checking out the Civil War artifacts. It was a little crowded and little confusing on what to do or where to go but we figured it out and were able to taste six wines. A few red, a few white and one rose then grab a full glass of our favorite and go for a walk around the yards. The was a gelato stand , very good but a little pricey. Bonefish grill had a good stand there. The band was pretty good too and they were setting up for a wedding but we were hanging around. All in all a great afternoon and a very cool place I would come back here. Not sure I would join the club to purchase wine though.
There were maybe 2 wines that tasted okay; the rest were not great. The wine is also served in small plastic cups that are prone to blowing over even while full, and is quite overpriced. While the surroundings were pretty, the tables were very crowded together as well. The worst of it was the winery's rules on not allowing water inside, which they enforce through a long security line, but do not provide free of charge once inside. It's especially egregious given that the water sold is plastic bottled water, creating unnecessary plastic waste.
Beautiful winery complete with umbrella covered picnic tables and an expansive lawn for picnics. The wine is very good and they have a large range of whites, reds, and even a rose'. They have on site food options including full meals but also allow outside food should you choose to bring your own. We enjoyed the live music on Saturday.
I love this winery. The tables are nicely spaced out doors, there was a guy on a guitar playing some decent music but most of all it was peaceful and relaxing. And they have some amazing horses to look at. Oh the wines are great to. My favorite is the Delaney.
I love this place! Great Wine! Beautiful scenery, lovely staff, and such a welcoming aura! I highly recommend for a date, events, weddings, wine tastings... best part of all, it's so close to the DC Metro!
The Winery at Bull Run was the site for our annual holiday party this year. Our party was a huge success and by far one of the best parties we have ever hosted. The folks at the winery were extremely easy to work with and they introduced us to The Purple Onion to do the catering for our event. The staff at The Purple Onion were top notch and the food was delicious. They hosted a tasting for us and we were able to pick the menu that works best for our clientele. The clients who attended the event could not stop complimenting the food and the winery. We were able to start the party in the barrel room and then moved the party upstairs to the main floor. I do not believe we can move the party to another location now because it was so popular. If you are looking for a place to host an event this is the place for you. Eddie and Natasha were easy to work with and they worked closely with us to make sure our event was a success!
had a great time with friends. facility was well run, however, winery did not have enough staff for tastings and wine sales. seating area was muddy and not well kept. wine was priced at dc pricing. inability to bring bottled water in to the winery is unacceptable. with the exorbitant amount of wineries in the area each needs to be on their A game. being a historical location does not skyrocket them to the top.
Plenty of open space in and outdoors. Great selection and variety of wine. Also, try the cider! Came for the Derby event and wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend stopping by here
The Winery at Bull Run is a fun, fantastic place to go with friends or for a company team building or for a wedding....I know because I've done all of the above. The staff is nice and friendly, the decor and environment is rustic and so nicely put together. I have seen kids there so they all seem kid friendly which is nice because that is more inviting for my different groups of friends. I like the wine and well I really can't say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend The Winery at Bull Run!!
We love coming here! This winery is located right off of route 29 and entering the grounds makes you feel like you're miles away from traditional civilization. There's a marvelous and picturesque view of the vineyard from the outdoor patio. Inside there are are three floors for patrons and the most upper floor is reserved. We've experienced the wine tastings as well. There are food trucks that visit on weekends, though you can buy cheese, cured meats and bread from the winery. We've brought our own food to snack on. There's plenty of parking in front of the winery and leave your four-legged friends at home.
One of our favorite wineries but when you ask for a glass of water so you can stay sober to drive and they charge you, that is ridiculous. Also they check my wife s blanket when we walked in to verify we did not have alcohol wrapped in it. They lost a lot of points today.
Some of the wine was decent. Unfortunately this review wasn't for the wine, but for the lack of service that was given. My friend and I were there for a tasting, and potentially to have a couple glasses and enjoy the weather. But that did not happen. The woman that helped us was obviously more concerned about talking with the other staff, than helping us. There was quite a few minutes in between each wine before we were served the next. So much so, we didn't even want too continue our experience there.
I came out to the Winery a couple weekends ago with my girlfriends and had a fabulous time! The staff was always smilling and very knowledgeable about the process of wine making. Sitting around with a bunch of friends enjoying their tastey wine and snacks was great. The fact that they had live music was an even bigger bonus to our Saturday! If you are looking for a fun filled saturday with some friends go here! (Get there earlier than later, it can get pretty packed!)
Last Christmas, as Chapter President of a professional association, I arranged to have our Holiday Party at The Winery at Bull Run with catering provided by Amphora Restaurants. Amphora catering director suggested the winery which I had not heard of and based on a visit to website and correspondence with Event Planner at winery, I selected the site without a physical visit. I was pleasantly surprised with the location once we arrived. They had decorated the private Barrel Room beautifully, and the space was ample and comfortable for our 75 members (the largest party we have had since I have been a member!). Additionally, I hired a band to play, and the acoustics in the barrel room were great with all the surrounding wood. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the on-site event coordinator happily took pictures for us. But the best part was the excellent wine! They had a great selection to pick from at various price points, and I picked a selection of whites and reds mostly at the lower price point to keep costs down. Having been to VA wine events before and not being terribly impressed with VA wines based on those experiences, I went in with the expectation that I would not find the wine to my liking. (I am a bit of a wine snob, preferring French, Australian and Argentinian wines.) I was absolutely shocked to find how MUCH I enjoyed the Bull Run Winery wines. My friend and I got to take the leftover purchased bottles home, and we were fighting over who got the rest of the award winning white! Since last Dec, I have had wines from two other VA wineries since, and I can honestly say they are not even in the same class -- Bull Run wines were significantly better. I highly recommend the Bull Run Winery, and look forward to going back for another event -- a meetup group I am in is planning one in early 2014 and I can't wait!
Lovely place to spend a Friday night. Live acoustic music. Picnic tables outside, tables indoors. Food inside and a food truck as well. Great for large groups like meetups and romantic date for two as well.
Bull Run is always a good time. They have a nice variety of wines for everyone. This is usually my go-to spot when I have a mixed group of sweet and dry wine drinkers because they have something for everyone. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well. And I recommend their wine club if you like the wines. Its totally worth it. I buy the wine anyways so might as well get membership perks while I'm at it.
The Winery at Bull Run has great wines, a charming atmosphere, and great staff! My favorite bottle is the Norton. They also have a delicious peach wine that's perfect for sipping on a warm summer day. The winery is a great place to visit with your family or a group of friends and can also host a beautiful rustic wedding or private event. Don't miss out on this gem conveniently located a few minutes off 66.
I highly recommend The Winery at Bull Run (TWABR). We have visited TWABR many times. The experience has always been wonderful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The wine is fantastic. We had the pleasure of working with the event staff on a fundraiser and the entire process was well planned, well executed and extremely well marketed. The number of people that attended the event, despite the terrible weather, was absolutely amazing. I could not have hoped for a better event. We expect to do many events at TWABR and recommend them highly!
Open, great prices, busy, saw a couple get married here, u get a glass with ur tasting, and the wines are great. Family friendly with plenty of people picnicking, and a historical site to boot (battle at bull run, civil war).
I had the opporunity to work with the marketing staff at The Winery at Bull Run. They were great and made a donation to our silent auction! They helped us raise a lot of money for a worthy cause! Thanks TWBR!
This is our new favorite hang out. The wine is fabulous. The food is great and I love the rotating food truck's out front. I highly recommend becoming a member because you'll get addicted to this place. The view, the atmosphere, the SUPER friendly employees, and the live entertainment make for a great time EVERY time.
My review is less for the winery and more for their Haunted Winery Tour. Considering that this event sells out within minutes, I was largely disappointed. First of all, the website clearly states that this tour isn't about jump-scares. Yet three times on the tour, someone leaps out and screams at the group. I don't care about having that on the tour, but to state that the tour will be about the history and the wine and a way to get into the season, and then have intentionally scary moments, that's wrong. In addition, the stories were relatively generic. There were a few highlights, but most were surface level and focused more on generic spooky tales than about the rich and horrible history directly next door. I know that not everyone will want a history-laden tour, but there's a way to meld both incredibly successfully. Alexandria has a fantastic historical ghost tour, as does Congressional Cemetery, which I would recommend heads and shoulders above this. Not worth $40, especially since the tour didn't even last the full hour.
I went to the winery on a Sunday with three friends and we had a reservation. I have been on numerous occasions over the years and this was the first time that I was absolutely stunned at the terrible customer service. My party ran over the reservation, the hostess informed us that we needed to leave as the next party would be arriving. In the immediate area where we were seated there were 3 empty tables in front of our table and one to the back. She then proceeded to go to another picnic table and also ask the guest to leave. In my opinion as we were still drinking wine that we had purchased she simply could of asked for another deposit on the table or placed the next guests at one of the empty tables. To add insult to injury as we were leaving I then noticed that over half of the tables near the patio were empty. I will be less likely to return based on this encounter. It's also very bizarre that you can bring your own food put they will not allow you to bring in bottle water
