The Winery at Bull Run Reviews

This is an interesting winery considering it is placed on/near a Civil War battlefield. Aside from the historic appeal, the wine is decent (not at all the best) and the 'menu' lacks a charcuterie. They should really put together a cheese/fruit/meat/chocolate platter or sampler for those wine tasting. Instead, they give you blocks of cheese, bags of chips, and deli packets of meat to cut yourself and share. It just makes it inconvenient to share with the group as well as pricing gets a little odd. If you're going to do a sample wine tasting, maybe pair it with an edible platter for others to snack, share, enjoy, and not just nibble on crackers. I understand you can bring your own snacks for the picnic tables outside, but then you can't do a wine tasting... so it just made for an interesting time with my group. The winery itself is nice with Civil War artifacts spread throughout and the scenery is gorgeous of course. I don't think I would come back though...maybe give it a second shot over the weekend (I went on thursday for the ladies day) with the live music and additional benefits.

Good selection of food and wines. Enjoyed the mulled wine and tent with warmer to stave off the cold! Good live music as well.

The Winery at Bull Run was a nice surprise. When I was invited to go to a wine festival there I was hesitant. I had an image of a long drive outside the beltway. It was surprisingly close as and quite a nice place. The people that were working there were really friendly and helpful. The event was well-organized and everyone had a really good time. I'm sure we will go back!

Beautiful winery! I went for my birthday, unfortunately the staff was so rude!!! It was our first time there, we brought some charcuterie with us and grabbed a table inside, a staff member rudely came up and told us we had to move. We had no idea that outside food could only be consumed on the patio and that is completely fine, but she could have been polite about it. We actually had an appointment to speak about the potential of having our wedding here but canceled our appointment after this unpleasant experience.

I made a reservation for a specific area, they reseated me somewhere else. When I asked about it, they said there was nothing they could do. Also... wine tasting in plastic cups? Garbage attitude, decent wine, prices were too high. $10 for prepackaged foods from Whole Foods.

This is usually the first winery in the area where I take guests.

I'm highly embarrassed to ever come here again. I came to spend time with a friend and one of the employees came over to our table to tell us "she's trashed she needs to leave". Having several friends in the bar/club area of work I highly understand. However, I closed my tab after my third glass of wine, having someone come to you and say you're trashed in front of people is embarrassing and the cause for me to never want to come me again. I'm a lawful citizen and respect all forms of police and law but being told I'm the reason he called police because I'm "trashed". I paid for a third glass of wine I never got to finish or got reimbursed for. I will never come here again nor will I ever recommend this establishment. To be embarrassed like that is mortifying and don't wish that on anyone. After being treated like this I will never come here again;! Nor will I ever recommend this establishment to anyone!!

Too crowded, Overpriced wine that you could easily get at Costco served out of plastic cups, full of people pretending to be fancy by dressing up, too far out in the middle of nowhere

We celebrated Bridal Shower today and had a bit of a reservation situation and wanted to thank the General Manager (Dean) for his problem solving and customer service! It s tough times and we re all trying to make it work. Thank you!

My company held a Holiday Party for our clients at The Winery at Bull Run and had an amazing experience. Our turnaround was very quick and during one of the busiest times of year, but they were able to pull everything together seamlessly.

Of course the property and building are stunning, but in addition to that the service is top notch. It actually snowed the day before our event and they assured us that everything would still be ready to go without a problem - and it was. All of our clients had an amazing time! The one issue we found we that since we started in the lower room there was not enough signage for the guests to know where to go.

Can't bring a cooler anymore -- no more picnics. They just lost my business. Disappointing too because the wine was good and it was pretty close to home.

Recently happened upon this winery while in the DC area. So glad we did! We loved the scenery, the atmosphere and the wine! There is so much history and the owners did a fabulous job. We were able to take the wine tasting tour and throughly enjoy each wine but loved the history lesson. Very creative. I already want to go back!

Absolutely perfect peach wine, never tasted something like that.

Beautiful Saturday afternoon. We did the $10 reservation and were seated under the coverings & there were fans. On a hot day the $10 reservation was totally worth it.

This was a very unpleasant experience. I will never go back. The assistant manager Connor Ducket treated our group terribly. The allegations in your response below are simply factually inaccurate. It was not our 3rd winery of the day and no one fell out of the bus. It is most unfortunate that the facts are not being conveyed accurately here by Bull Run. I will never be back to this winery. I would recommend that groups avoid this winery.

I had a blast and the music was great and the service was AWESOME!!!

It was the first time I went there lived in the area for many years, and we had to travel outside the city to find good wine and have a relaxing time, glad there is something closer and the music makes it all worth it.

The haunted tours were great this year! The wine and atmosphere here are very good too.

Been here for several events. Its a great location, friendly staff, good food and wine. Great for events too.

Average at best. Awful at worst. More of a hangout place for the local winos and their kids than a reputable winery. It's become more about the $$ and less about the wine. The club used to be great, now it a burden. Take the 30 minute drive and go west to a winery that cares about their fruit and customers.

Strictly mediocre wine with very overpriced snacks. They also make you pay for water.

Gorgeous winery featuring spectacular views, indoor/outdoor seating, and enjoyable wine. Bull Run allows (limited) "bring your own food" to their lawn and picnic areas. They also offer a "homey" & inviting tasting room, barrel room, and a covered/heated patio.

As with most wineries without a dedicated kitchen, I do not recommend ordering their in-house food during your visit. Their in-house food is good, but is mostly prepackaged items and their staff are not accustomed to offering to groups, i.e., we were given a plastic knife to cut the 2 baguettes we ordered... not very effective. We will be back, but will bring our own food or plan around when an outside food vendor will be available. Bull Run Winery is great for small groups!

Great wine great customer service turns me back to when I used to go to the wineries in Germany it's awesome.

I do like this winery, but not all staff was friendly. We dropped by for a wine tasting on a slow Tuesday afternoon in June. There were just a few other customers there. Since we had been standing or walking all morning, we moved chairs to the bar during our tasting. An employee other than our server then interrupted us and informed us we could not use chairs at the bar. I replied with a comment about the place having too many rules. It was a lazy Tuesday afternoon, after all. He then replied, "WE REALLY DON'T HAVE TOO MANY RULES". Seriously?! Did he really have to get the last word in? We nearly walked out, and would have had I not had to run direct to the airport afterwards.

What a place -- what a team!! TW@BR was the perfect place at a really difficult time. We lost my mom this year -- one of our dearest treasures on earth. We needed a place for family and friends to gather and remember her that was befitting of her beautiful personality. The Winery is simply stunning -- set in picturesque and historic VA horse country with beautifully manicured grounds and state of the art facilities. Eddie Fam and the thoughtful and caring events team could not have been more sympathetic and responsive. They took care of everything. From transforming the private space in the Barrel Room to the catering to the fantastic wines our family enjoyed in Mom's honor. These guys are exceptionally talented and caring -- we are still getting rave reviews from everyone who joined us. Now - we find ourselves returning to enjoy the splendid views, the wonderful vino, and the friendliest staff of wine professionals around. Thanks for making this so perfect. Cheers!!

What a great venue for our wedding! We were one of the first couples to book a wedding here, and we are glad we did! The place just keeps adding on and getting more and more beautiful. The on-site staff did a great job on the day of our wedding and things ran smoothly despite portentous weather. They have many different areas that one could utilize for break out areas and the place could be used equally well for small, medium or large events! Of yeah, the wine is excellent too!

Pleasantly surprised! Try the Cabernet Franc if you like red. Great scenery and Kendall was lovely and very helpful .

Beautiful venue - air conditioned indoor area, covered outdoor, picnic tables under the trees, views of pasture and vineyard. The wines are fine if you like sweet wine.

As a history buff the location drew me in but the outstanding wine sold me on The Winery at Bull Run.

The Winery at Bull Run combines history and wine in an amazing setting. This is a welcoming, family-oriented winery appealing to a wide variety of visitors. The decor is in keeping with its surroundings and along with the delicious wine great attention is given to the magnitude of historic events that occurred at Bull Run.

History buffs and wine lovers alike will enjoy sitting and sipping in the rustic-style tasting room or out on the patio. I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful winery with an amazing story to tell.

I also suggest trying their Norton - a fabulous offering made from a historic Virginia grape!

You can't go wrong here. The wine is amazing and the scenery beautiful. Had a fun time talking with Benjamin Franklin on the 4th of July!

Used to love that place. Nice atmosphere, music, good layout and good wine too. The wine is still good. but the food and atmosphere have changed: no more fresh bread or meat and cheese. Plastic packaged 3 pieces of meat? Very disappointing. So now, bring my own food when i go there.

I have been to this winery at least 4 times now. Each time I go I ask - why did I come here? Then I remind myself it s the one closest to my house and that I am lazy. when I go to a winery I want slow, easy sipping wine with a relaxed atmosphere. This place is more on the level of a bar or outside music venue. I could look over these things but it just isn t good each time I come. A) the wine is very mediocre b) fellow customers are roudy bachelorette party-bus types, and the c) search and seizure process when you get in is very offputting. Let s go through these points: A) let s start with the wine. It isn t good. Everything I had here tasted like box wine. I had a few different varieties and each time I am disappointed. Secondly they sell you a bottle of wine and give you Dixie cups. So to be fair we are in COVID season so maybe this is just a temporary thing, if not, totally lame. B) my fellow customers, they are the type that enjoy laugh yelling and getting sloppy at a winery. So more of a cleanendon ballroom type, who enjoy getting cranked in their best sun dress going from their u-street haunts to a winery then get on tinder for a late night hookup C) the search process as you get in. As you pull up the security guard hands you a flyer that says no outside drinks - understand beer, wine, liquor - but they mean any type of drink - so water, gateorade, soda....fine it is what it is. People are trash and hide liquor in water bottles, and this has happened enough that they need to TSA search your bag as you get in. pretty demeaning, and not keeping with a winery vibe.

So net net. This is the closest winery to dc. It could be OK with kids, and not bad if you just want to get outside. But if you are looking for a winery experience - keep going down 29 you can do better.

If you're in the area, definitely stop by the Winery at Bull Run! It's a great place to bring guest or meet up with friends. I love the rustic atmosphere/venue which also has interesting items on display that history buffs will love. It's a great winery for tastings - there is a variety of both dry and sweeter reds and whites which makes it nice for groups of friends with mixed palates.Tastings are $15 per person plus you can keep the wine glass which is etched with their very cool logo. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The live music and food truck on-site is a plus! We will most certainly be visiting again in the near future! - Dana Hyde, Keller Williams Realty

As both a performing Artist and a lover and connoisseur of wine, I have to say this is one of the nicest wineries in all of Northern VA. The plush landscape down to the beautifully decorated ineterior combines elegance with a historic and rustic feel, and is a must see for all wine lovers.
The Live music adds a perfect blend of casual but fun ambience. The Management seems very dedicated to producing top notch wines and catering to your needs, and the Events staff is easy and great to work with and committed to making sure your experience is an enjoyable one. This is the perfect Winery to come spend a day with friends or to book an event for a truly memorable time. Five Stars!

Beautiful place, excellent customer service, delicious wine, live music, food truck on site during weekends.

We love sitting outside with our picnic, enjoying a great wine, and relaxing. Lots of room for the kids to play while the grown ups chat.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff serving some pretty tasty grapes. I liked the reds most of all. We enjoyed some of Bull Run's wines on the "adults only" covered patio. They have plenty of space indoors and out for many people. It was interesting to hear and see the history of the property which is detailed well throughout the winery with artifacts on display. My friends and I have been to the winery numerous times and have always enjoyed the ambiance and the great vino here. The scenery indoors and outdoors is absolutely beautiful. The staff is top notch and super friendly. Whether spending an afternoon with friends or attending a special function they really know how to take care of their clientele. Location wise, it is nestled within the serenity of the Battlefield but is still close to the city. In our region there are certainly a cache of wineries to visit; once you have been to The Winery at Bull Run it is guaranteed to become your favorite.

We came to Fall Crush Festival, and even though it was rainy we had a great time. The grounds and views are beautiful. We were quite surprised that such a nice winery was so local to us. It's such a short drive (even from DC) but it feels as though you are transported to the middle of Virginia wine country.

This is a good place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the busy surrounding area, and enjoy a flavorful bottle of wine and good food.

Been coming here for years. Disappointed they shoo parents to the back of the premises. Also think the staff can be extremely rude around closing. Love the venue and think the location is great, but won t be coming here if customer service continues to decline.

My sister and I wanted to experience the winery scene so I called and ask questions about seating, rules, & concerns of social distancing the young lady I spoke with mis communicated a lot of the information I dont think it was purposely, she sound very busy at the moment. However upon getting there we were told by a young man that if we didnt have reservations we could only sat on the lawn I explained to him that we were told we didnt need reservations that it was first come first served we decided to stay anyway since we had came all the way here and I'm so glad we did as we were walking around to get food we were greeted by Kalieigh Herderson I began to explain my situation and she said she was the manger and she would see what she could do to follow her.. not only did she find us an open table with shade she ask which wine we prefered an recommended the Petit Mengang (I think I spell that wrong) and escorted us to purchase our wine after we were situated she came back to check on us and ask how we like the wine we explained that it was a little bitter she then gave us another bottle on the house the Delaney which was delicious and two glasses as souvenirs. From that point on our sister day outing was a blast this place is awesome Kaliegh Herderson you are the epitome of excellent customer service I will continue to come here and have recommend another group of friends who said that would like to attend a winery. THANK YOU KALIEGH your the best!!!

The wine was great, the winery was very family friendly, and the view was picturesque.

Loved the place, view and ambience. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there wee not much food options but again they do allow you to take food there!! Definitely will bring my family here.

Visited cause my office is having an event. Beautiful place to visit. Got to taste some excellent wines and the scenery is gorgeous. Such a great experience. Two recommendations: Reconciliation and Fort.

Spent a couple of hours on the General's Deck today in celebration of our Birthdays. Super clean, well spaced out. The sun sail provided much needed shade on this 93 degree day but there was a nice breeze, cool wine, and great company! Can't wait to go out again!

Just had their new release of their Cabernet Franc Reserve and it was fantastic, a subtle pepper taste with a distinguished black cherry flavor. A very good medium body wine.

I've been several times and always enjoyed it but this past weekend we had a different experience. It was the first nice day this year really, so it was packed more than normal. That is fine, the issue was with double the normal attendance and a wedding taking place, there was no running water to wash your hands after you discovered the toilets wouldn't flush. The numerous bathrooms outside were overflowing and "out of order" signs on the door. How were they open? Isn't this a major health code issue?

Atmosphere was great, wine was fair. Would prefer a decent smoking section.

Nice place to hangout with family and friends. I like how they separate family and other to have specific areas for them. We like family area because our kids can enjoy their time with other while we don't have to worry about they bothering other people who doesn't have kids.

Went for a tasting today by default (other wineries closed) after having a few bad experiences but our host Jessie has rejuvenated my thirst for this winery. She was so attentive and showed us a few wines that even after visiting The Winery at Bull Run several times I never knew they had. Btw, if you've never tried the peach wine....DO IT!!! I don't like sweet wines but this wine tastes like biting into a juicy peach on a hot summer day with after notes of fuzz! Yum! Thoroughly enjoyed this visit.

your family look no further than a trip to The Winery at Bull Run! This beautiful vineyard in conveniently close to DC (around 40 minutes away) and they have some of the best tasting wines in NOVA (my personal favorite is the Delaney!) I absolutely love everything about this winery, from the rustic decor to the the impeccable service from the winery staff. The winery also hosts private parties and events. If you have an event coming up in the near future you will want to contact the event team ASAP as dates are quickly filling up for 2014/2015! If you haven't had the chance to visit you should; trust me you won't be disappointed..

I've been to several winery's, mostly in Maryland. This one is nise enough. However, for a large as it is and for as many people it attracts, the facilities(restrooms) are few and small (ladies). From what I can tell they attract alot of women.

We love the Winery at Bull Run! My (now) wife and I celebrated our one-year anniversary of our first date here a couple years ago, making this the perfect place to scheme with the staff to plan out a surprise proposal last summer!

We love the wines, the grounds (try the historical tours!), the events (outdoor movie nights this fall were a blast!) and the staff. We re now members and can t wait to keep getting to know the community!

Most of us can probably agree that going to wineries is a nice way to relax. But with The Winery at Bull Run, you can actually learn a little something while you're there, too! Set adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield in Fairfax County, Virginia, Bull Run is located on hallowed Civil War ground and has the dug-up artifacts from the war to prove it. The wine here is also top-notch and has already received multiple awards in its short lifetime. The staff is friendly, super knowledgeable and offers you an experience you won't soon forget. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone! Also - if you're looking to plan an event or wedding, don't overlook this place. Great event planners on board and a unique setting that your attendees will surely be blown away by. What are you waiting for? Go now!

Their wine tastes like the bullets they keep finding in the fields. Beautiful scenery though, and free parking.

Very disappointed. First of all I paid $10 for a table for 2 to be reserved. But when my wife and I came to this winery, there were so many empty tables and nobody even checked who is sitting where and we just chose any table... A glass of wine for $10 is served in a small cheap plastic cup. They should advertise on their website that the wine will be served in a small plastic cup. The staff have no knowledge about the wines. Bad wine list. Sangria is just a JOKE! We bought a pitcher of white sangria and it was a waist of $31. Just bunch of ice and water. The prosciutto and mozzarella cheese that we purchased there tasted and looked like it was packed in a dollar store. Won t come back there again. Only plus is a fresh air, bc you are sitting outside. DON T RECOMMEND!!

The place has truly become lively. The wine was still ok but the atmosphere was so fun!!

Great place if you love a good combo of wine and history! The tasting room overlooks a civil war battlefield, with civil war relics around the room. You can even take a history/wine tour!

Very nice historic property and good quality wine, but I would say the tasting is overpriced. As a local, it feels like a bit of a tourist trap especially as far as pricing goes. A specific critique: I came for the teacher appreciation event advertised as buy one get one free glasses. My teacher friend and I were dismayed to find out that they limit you to one bogo per pair of people, regardless of whether you are both teachers. The cashier was sympathetic (a fellow teacher!) but said the policy came from upper management. It seemed unfair that we couldn t each get the deal. Who else is free during a weekday to go hang out at a winery? The policy came across as unnecessarily strict and stingy for a large, successful winery.
Overall, a beautiful place to hang out and enjoy good wine, but be prepared for high prices. There are other nice wineries in the state that are more affordable and accommodating.

Not happy with customer service. Was doing a wine tasting and ordered food. Person behind bar told us not to eat at the bar. We didn't touch the food. Manager came over and rudely said the same thing. We didn't even touch the food after the first person told us not to eat at the bar. Felt like we were in the way and not a valued customer who PAID to be there. Was not impressed with the customer service. Employees seemed rude and hurried. Will not be going there again.

Reasonably good wines. Pleasant outdoor areas to sit and socialize. Easily accessible. We'll definitely be back again!

Always nice to be out at the VA wineries. Wines ok. Not enough to my liking on the testing menu (often the case for me with VA wines though), but enjoyed sharing a bottle of their Petit Verdot. Plenty of space for gathering inside and out. A live musician was a plus. Cheese and charcuterie purchases available.

Definitely not as good wine as some other local ones (imo) but it might suit your taste... Nice aesthetics, feels more like a day at the park than at the vineyard.
