Beautiful spot for a wedding or just to hang out and enjoy some live music and wine. The cookie and wine pairing is lots of fun!

The scenery and location are gorgeous. The wine is absolutely fantastic. I don't have anything negative about the experience. Even though it was crowded, the space was large and service fat so that it never felt oppressive or overwhelming.
My only critique is that I wish they could switch from screw call bottles to actual corks. Functionally it's not much more than an aesthetic critique, but makes the some appear cheaper than the taste and quality really are.
It s in a lovely area and the main building is beautiful but there was a lady behind the counter who was extremely rude. I feel like for me to buy an almost $11 glass of wine I would like to try it first! I wasted no time, seeing as how they were busy, and asked to try 2 white wines before I bought a glass and possibly a bottle with the people I was there with. I mentioned to the employee behind the counter exactly what I was looking for and she rolled her eyes and proceeded to lecture me on how she should make me pay for a tasting with all these wines I probably wouldn t care for. I asked her, ok, would you like me to pay for a tasting or is it ok I just try the 2 I was interested in? She told me to hurry up and try them because there was a line behind me. I had been at the counter no longer than 5 minutes and knew exactly what I wanted before I even approached the bar area. I was very surprised but assumed she was frustrated because they were indeed very busy on a beautiful Saturday night. The wine was delicious but the service I received the first 10 minutes I was there makes it very difficult for me to consider returning.
One of our favorite places to enjoy a beautiful afternoon! Beautiful surroundings and delicious wines! Plus its a great place to bring your kids (in the family section, of course). There are always tons of other families with kids and they can play and run around, and not annoy the grown ups! A rule of thumb should be, the nicer the day it is, the more crowded it will be so on those sunny 72 degree days, get there early! Also, outside food is allowed, just no outside booze. Works for me, they have plenty of wine there already!
Great , very nice venue close to home for a change!
Jared was our wine tasting host and did an excellent job leading us through the winery's offerings and educating us about the grapes and the idiosyncrasies of the Virginia growing seasons. He was awesome! Even though we prefer reds, we ended up choosing the 2018 Delaney, a white blend, and stayed for barbeque and live music. It was a great way to spend a holiday weekend Saturday.
Great ambiance, facilities, and wine. The place is historic and plays up the history in the tasting room.
We stopped in for a tasting in Early April during nice weather. Although ample outdoor is available for patrons, we opted for a simple wine tasting at the bar. The wine selection was pretty simple--full tasting with included glassware, or a half tasting (I think it was 4 wines versus 9). Wines here were on-par with the region, in my opinion. From those who have visited with regularity, it seems like they always have the same types, and they're consistent (kudos, that can be hard). I'd definitely come back and enjoy the outdoor seating section for my next visit!
I was first acquainted with this winery when I was at an event at Fairfax Station. The lady who was doing the tasting told me to come on by. I did, and I have been there a few times. Great place and great wine. Please note that it may get crowded at times.
Excellent winery!! Did an amazing wine tasting with Aryn. Left with several bottles.
We went in with high expectations due to the ratings. Staff was super, super nice. Very convenient location, grounds were pleasant and able to accommodate large parties. The wine was average, the whites better than the reds (in part because the reds were from 2012 which was not a great grape year in Virginia, but also have had better 2012 reds). It was a pleasant experience, but I would not agree with the five-star ratings. We have been to quite a few other Nova wineries that are better in either grounds or wines or both.
The tasting fee was $12 and we took home two glasses which we did not particularly want. Other reviews made it seem optional, but the no-glass option was not given to us. Not a big deal, but contrary to other reviews.
We went on a weekday, and it may be a different experience on the weekend when they have live music, a more festive atmosphere and as I understand unique concepts like separate seating areas for people with children. But our experience, as a result of being a weekday, was a straight evaluation of wine, service and grounds and, to that end it really was not anything special, but was certainly sufficient. If your expectations aren't for a five-star winery, then I think you will leave satisfied.
I booked my wedding at The Winery at Bull Run, which was obviously the most special day of my life! When meeting with Eddie and Paige in the Sales Department, all of my questions and concerns were immediately answered - and I had a lot of questions! They were very detailed and informative during the tour and throughout the presentation of the winery - I loved the rustic spaces. The wine-bar staff were incredibly friendly and the wine was delicious. We did our tasting with Caitlyn, who was very nice and seemed to be as excited about our wedding as we were. As an added bonus, the winery has a partnership with nearby hotels who offered discounted room blocks for our guests, as well as a complimentary shuttle for their safety and convenience.
As our wedding day got closer, we worked closely with the event team, Amanda and Sarah. They were very enthusiastic about every aspect of our special day. In addition, they brought us in for a pre-wedding meeting to go over logistics and final details with our vendors. I felt very relieved after this meeting, knowing the winery had our best interest in mind. On the wedding day, the event team was the first to arrive to set up. We were comforted that they were on top of everything and that our family could relax and enjoy our special day. We loved every minute of our wedding thanks to the winery's beautiful setting and amazing staff. I highly recommend booking your wedding or special event at The Winery at Bull Run!
I had an amazing time at The Winery at Bull Run - the wine was delicious and very well priced, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere cozy and inviting. I'll definitely be returning sometime soon!
My husband and I visited this winery on July 4th. The service was amazing. From the moment we stepped onto the side walk, we were warmly greeted by the staff....when we walked in the atmosphere was classy but laid back. The attendant that facilitated our tasting was attentive without being pushy. I can't wait until our next visit!
Have been to the winery on several occasions - very consistent, favorable customer service, attention to detail, and a fun atmosphere. Great for groups, or couples.
The wine and food selections, as well as the tastings are varied and make for a great day/evening.
The beautiful surroundings, and proximity to DC/Fairfax Co are a plus!
Atmosphere was great! Table spacing and staff was exceptional! Awesome place to gather with friends during these crazy times!
Came here for the first time and even during a global pandemic, this has become my favorite winery hands-down! Seating and social distancing measurements were in place and well-enforced despite it being a busy Saturday. The wines didn't disappoint either! Their sweet "Delaney" and "Estate Rose" hit the spot on a hot 100F July day. Management staff even stopped by to make sure we were staying cool and felt safe. Will be visiting here again soon to try more of their wines!
A really delightful setting close in to Washington DC. They have some good wines but it's the ambiance. Live music. Nice outdoor seating. Can get crowded but they seem to control the crowds. Children are welcome so be aware of that but they don't run wild. You can sign up for a historical tour since it is adjoined to Bull Run national park. We took it but found it only so so. There are wine tastings with that too. So it's a something for everyone winery and, at least for me, it works.
This place seemed to have it all figured out. From the moment we walked in the door someone greeted us and showed us to an open spot where someone was waiting to greet us and start the tasting. Despite being very busy they seemed to have things organized and running smoothly. The person who poured for us (I believe her name was Meg) was very friendly and when my friend expressed an interest in dessert wines she sent a staff person to pull an extra dessert wine to add to our tasting.
We went as part of 'the great skedaddle'- wine on 29 promotion which was $20 for tastings at 3 wineries. Great value and they treated us just as well even though we paid a discounted price.
Besides the great service they had some delicious wines and the location was beautiful! We will definitely be back to enjoy a glass on their porch.
Great scenery. Wines are fair at best but i would recomend for a nice day, great service, and great ambiance.
It was the BEST! Loved all the wines but the Meritage Reserve was my favorite! From the History at Bull Run to the staff you just can't beat it!
The wine was pretty good (tried the meritage and cab franc reserve), and we were able to taste a few reds before ordering a bottle. "Charcuterie" was overpriced, and involved being handed packaged meat and a block of packaged cheese with a paper plate and steak knife... Gluten free crackers were available, but at $8.50 per serving, we passed. No outside food allowed, except on the picnic tables. Given than it is winter and in the upper 30s, outside was not an option.
The musician (who played only covers) had his mic and amp turned up so loud that we had to yell to hear each other for the entire two hours we were there, and we were across the room from the musician.
Would not recommend their food selection, but for wine, this is a decent place with just okay ambience.
Beautiful location and great facility. Decent wine but not spectacular.
Came here for a tasting with my boyfriend and we had an awesome time! You can bring your own food so next time we will probably do that. Ryan was doing our tasting and he was very knowledgeable! This place and also beautiful indoor and out. Can t wait to bring friends and family here!
Fantastic wine and great food. The music was great.
The wait staff was very friendly. There is a nice screened in porch area. It was very cozy and the surrounding area was beautiful.
I have been here three times. Each of the previous two times I had an experience with rude staff and thought perhaps it was just coincident. Against our better judgement we brought a large family party there for our third visit only to experience their rudeness again in multiple fronts.
Beyond the staff rudeness, what really gets me is how strict they are on the rules they lay out. Be it with food, seating, order minimums, etc. Wineries are typically laid back, but not this one. Be prepared to be watched like a hawk.
The only redeeming qualities are the views and wine. The views are spectacular and the wine is excellent. But those two are easily overshadowed by the stringent and rude environment.
Worth the visit. They are doing everything possible to make your visit enjoyable and worthwhile. Had a great time, even with COVID-19 restrictions.
Beautiful setting just a few miles from DC. Great wine and great staff. Nice little escape.
For three years straight I have not been able to get tickets to the Haunted wine tours. Even currently, they only went on sale on August 21st, it is now the 23rd, and every single date is sold out. I find this poor planning. No one new can have a chance to come check out the event.
The place charged $30+ dollars for a table which included nothing but the table. The staff was unhelpful and the wine wasn't good. Will never return here.
Take the tour! Cameron is an awesome guide. We had fun.
This winery serves wine that has gone bad. When I went every single class of wine I ordered tasted like apple cider vingar. Disgusting. And their reds are all very oaky and thin. Wouldn't recommend.
Great venue - the atmosphere combines wine-making with history and beautiful Virginia scenery. The winery offers a diverse wine selection, using all Virginia grapes. The location is adjacent to the battlefield and offers a great view, and it is located right off of 29.
Meh. It's pretty but it's also overpriced and the wine isn't all that.
Great hospitality and locale. Katie was wonderful as a tasting guide and the wines are very good. I'm typically a dark wine guy, but ALL their whites were wonderful, with several complex and interesting.
Separate family/ children area was nice , as was the small selection of onsite Foos and the food truck.
If in the area, stop in.
We came here on a last minute whim and enjoyed ourselves very much. We did the wine tasting and then grabbed a pitcher of sangria. Our tasting host, Michael, was great and very friendly. We learned a bit from him. And then we hung out on the lawn with a pitcher of sangria and food from the food truck. I will be back and will be bringing out of town guests.
We came here for the haunted wine tour, and had an excellent time. The re-enactment was very well done, the wine was good and plentiful, and they have some very unique stories to tell. We ended up hanging around a little longer, and they do a great job keeping everyone distanced and keeping the outdoor areas warmed when it gets cold. A beautiful winery with a lot of history and some great wines.
Already sold out of the good stuff... Wait until next year
Friendly staff. Beautiful winery and scenery. Great tastings as well.
Location and grounds are great. Tasting room is rustic and open. Wine is good but expensive for the quality. Paying more for the facilities than the wine. Also wish they allowed dogs.
It s apparent that the demand is affecting the supply. Every wine in our tasting was too young , tart, and needed more tlc before being released. The scenery is beautiful but the crowds negate this places beauty. The wine isn t good. Period.
We went on Saturday, October 7. There were so many people, and the staff handled it well. Our tasting manager was the only male behind the bar and he was amazing. He was very considerate of our slow pace, he looked up the origin of the fig spread for us, and, after visiting with us, he recommended the Balkan tasting at the Wine Attic. I was very impressed with this service on such a busy day. Thank you. We had a blast.
I loved getting to try all the wines at the bar and then enjoy a glass outside in the heated porch area! The atmosphere was wonderful and relaxed and I never felt pressured to buy anything by employees. All the employees were very well versed in wine making and pairing, which as a foodie I really liked. The added bonus of live music added to the relaxed atmosphere that felt more like a family gathering than a business. I will definitely be returning with more friends!
Fantastic location near the Battlefield, and a great big sprawling lawn for nice days outside. The tastings are well priced and very informative about their wine. A lot of their wines are award-winning. The atmosphere is fun and historic.
It's a cute place but there are better wineries in the area. Never had bad service here.
Great place to have an excellent wine tastings and listen to live music
Went on the haunted wine tour- great time. Nice pour, super knowledgeable re-enactors. Very enjoyable.
Perfect place to come have a decent glass of wine and hang out and listen to live music. Love the building, super wine room, ample space to hang out with friends and family. The outside takes you right into the rolling hills of the civil war battlefield. Such a wonderful get away from the city. A great place for all seasons.
Was there during one of their events, it took over 2 hours to get our wine. I am sorry but that is inexcusable in this area. And it wasnt like they were understaffed, their exisiting staff was too busy chatting with pretty girls than moving the line along. This is the second time i have been here and the wine had not improved. Further the prices are not worth what the wone taste likes and they are very inflexible with events. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.
A great winery in a great spot, with some preserved history as well! The owners have done an excellent job detailing the history of the property and creating multiple displays of artifacts found on site and nearby. And oh yeah, there's wine, that's pricey but good, and even better when enjoying outside on their spacious garden and lawn area.
I love it here! There is lots of outside seating and some inside if you prefer to stay cool during the summer. My goto order is the red sangria in a pitcher (cheaper than the glass because it pays for itself if you have at least 2 glasses and you're splitting it with a friend). Their sangria is very refreshing and affordable. This place has a comfortable atmosphere and you can even bring your own food if you're sitting outside at the picnic tables. We usually pack some cheese and snacks to munch on while we drink our wine. Perfect place for a warm afternoon and they often have live acoustic music too!
I chose this place as my venue for my wedding because I love the rustic feel to it. Everyone was super nice and had no issue with them what so ever. I'd like to thank Meredith and Amanda for making my day run very smoothly and anyone else that was present for the event. Words can not describe how thankful I am.
Had a good time here, but was annoyed by the bag search and that no outside water was allowed, and no free water provided.
Amazing wine! I loved my visit out here today. I came looking at Bull Run for an event venue. The venue is fantastic, they have several rooms to choose from and the facility is made out of beautiful wood. The management are nice and helpful. The wine tasting is a must! The bartender is very generous with the tasting samples. The wines are excellent. They have a large variety of whites and reds. I loved the merlot. They have a very nice port wine and other desert wines as well. Plenty of space to move around. Great day trip from D.C.
It was crowded, and we were asked to move from place to place. We bought 2 bottles of wine and when we got home, they did not taste the same as they did at the winery.
We had a phenomenal visit here. It was a busy night but we were attended to so well by Eric. It was truly a treat to learn about the wines from him, and he is a treasure that shines bright in your staff, don't let him leave! Best wine tasting we had ever experienced and we have been to wineries all across the country.
It was ok.. paid 10 for a reservation, kinda pointless they weren't busy.. went to see the music venue today. Wine is mediocre, thought my $10 went towards my purchase of wine. But I was wrong need to have a wine membership .
People very kind! Great atmosphere! Even if you are not very into wine it is a great place to listen to great music hang out with friends and is very kid friendly! Love it!
This winery is beautiful. The staff goes out of their way for you. I was waiting for an uber and I was using crutches. It was a very hot day and I had to call three ubers because the first two weren't able to get to the winery. The staff brought me a chair to sit on and told me that they were keeping their eyes on me. They gave me three bottles of cold water because they were concerned about me sitting in the sun. As I was waiting for uber after uber they became more concerned and put my chair in the shade and brought a sun umbrella over for me. I was amazed by the attention they gave me and I was greatly appreciative of them. Thank you!
Location and history make up for the wine. They also have great hours and great seating. Indoor bathrooms and cheese available.
I went through the whole tour and was wondering why the tour guide was being so transparent then at the end of the tour the tour guide revealed she was a ghost... The toilet seats are comfy
Great experience but long line to park and get in (even if u have a reservation) so arrive early
Beautiful setting, good wine, and I was really happy with their safety protocols implemented for COVID19. I was able to enjoy myself.
We were married at TWABR in March 2013 and it was a amazing experience from start to finish! The staff event coordinators had an initial consultation with us explaining all the options and prices. The prices vary greatly depending on the season, day, space (if you want to rent the entire winery or just part) and open bar or cash bar. The price includes tables/chairs (nice dark wood ones), plenty of parking and their whole staff. The many options are great if you are on a budget like we were. The winery is as involved (or not) in your event as you want and they were very responsive to all my phone calls and emails (OK brides can get freaked out sometimes). We also had a walk through a week before the event with TWABR staff, our DJ, caterer and photographer to make sure everyone was on the same page. Make sure you delegate who will be keeping the flow (winery staff, DJ, wedding planner). The day went without a hitch and we didn't have or need a wedding planner. We did not rent the entire winery just the outside for our ceremony, side covered patio for our cocktail hour (which has heating torches-perfect for winter) and the barrel room for our reception. Some of our guests arrived early and enjoyed a wine tasting and letting kids run around outside before the ceremony started. We were married on the ruins/deck outside and as promised exactly on time all winery guests were out of sight and everything was set up. We timed the ceremony for 45 min before sunset which gave us the perfect opportunity for light, sunset and night pictures during the cocktail hour. Just about anywhere you go in and around the winery makes perfect pictures. By the time of the reception our guests were the only ones there because the winery had closed and we had the whole staff to ourselves. In the barrel room our DJ did up-lighting in our color and it really made it look amazing! We did cash bar and the winery set up a little bar off to the side and our guests purchased wine by the glass or a bottle for the table. Another plus is our out of town guests stayed at the Hyatt Place Chantilly because they have a free shuttle to TWABR and its close to the airport (Just call the hotel and set it up with the manager).
If I could do it again I wouldn't change a thing. TWABR was very transparent and responsive the whole process and we feel like we are part of their family. Its a great place to go and remember our wedding and create new memories.
Scenic views, very friendly staff. Two thumbs up for the bbq food truck.
Not a drinker, but they do have other options, though at a steep markup. Food trucks on weekends!
Plenty of space to gather and socialize over a glass of wine.
My husband and I really love TWABR. We have attended a couple of special wine tastings, one being a Merlot tasting and the other, Meritage. Dean and Eddie do a fine job of sharing wines from around the world and how the wine at Bull Run holds up against them. The staff is very welcoming and the atmosphere is enjoyable.
I went to the winery last year and loved it. Went today and it was horrible. One person from your table has to go to order drinks and food then bring back to your table (I get the COVID changes) but they do NOT give you anything to help you in serving yourself. Like a bag or tray. I would have been ok if I had 5 arms. The Sangria we ordered was the WORST we had a small cup and couldn t tolerate it so we left. I ll try it again in the fall and hope it s a better experience.
Excellent wine, awesome atmosphere, usually has music. Definitely worth a visit!
Amazing views with good wine. We like that we can bring food to enjoy at the picnic tables. The staff could be friendlier though. Very strict on rules which keeps order but needs to be done with more of a customer service and welcoming approach.
When do you like all wines at a tasting, very seldom... But was surprised at liking all Bull Run's brands. And our pourer Francis was awesome... She deserves a raise. And the BBQ truck's food was great too.
Paid $50 per person for New Year s Eve bash. Got in the door and every thing cost. Had to even buy bottled water to sober up for the drive. Disappointing and won t participate in a paid event again.
Really great experience today even in light of Covid restrictions. Just wife and i went and reserved a table for $10 (members get a credit for the fee)... and you get an outdoor picnic table with umbrella. Nice spacing. Folks are careful and are asked to wear masks unless at you tabke. Food was great and the cider is really nice this year. The family area looked pretty full but parents were good at monitoring their kids. Staff was attentive and enforced table discipline throughout our time there. Nice to finally get out to enjoy the weather in a safe environment. Next time we will try it with a couple of friends...
Nice place wine is a bit pricey, but bring your own food if you sit outside it's bring your own food!
The Winery at Bull Run is a treasure in the Northern VA area....beautiful scenery...awesome entertainment....excellent wines and food. The events staff is super friendly. If I were planning a wedding at a vineyard this would be my first choice for sure. Highly recommend you check it out if you are looking for a relaxing day in a scenic environment!
No flavor, watered down. Disappointed.
Nice setting though.
the ambiance is a 4. the wine is 3, the service was 2.5 but the server was very cute and knowledgeable on the wine-4. The place was very busy and there was live music. Lots of historical artifacts and available information about the surrounding battlefields. Try the Long Tom. I should have gotten pics of the I side. The foundation with fireplace is where they do weddings.
The customer service was awful when hosting an event there. Staff was not present for a private wine tasting. Wine was not delivered in a timely manner to my guests and nothing was set up for the DJ who played complimentary.
Very pretty location but dont come a half an hour before closing. The bartenders will not serve you even if its your birthday. Oh and won't even acknowledge and say 'happy birthday"
Very scenic. The wine was excellent, if a bit pricey. The historic site is interesting. There were plenty of picnic tables and people enjoying socializing, eating, and drinking. The staff was responsive and friendly. This is a great place to take a picnic or a bread and cheese plate to enjoy yourself. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that they don't serve food. They have some chips and containers of cheese; and there is a food truck that will give you a hot dog (eventually). The dining area in the photo seems to be an event that someone was hosting at the location. Otherwise, it was terrific!
My bridal shower was on the lawn, it was wonderful! The staff is great and we love the wine! I have bought many cases as gifts and for events.
