I've stayed in this hotel, hosted a conference and dinner here and attended a corporate event most recently. It's an experience to stay and visit this hotel and they do a solid job for event planners. If you have a large group, chances are you'll be in multiple spaces and the walk isn't really that bad from space to space. In fact, it's quite pleasant to see the various elegant parts of the hotel, including a gorgeous clock near reception.

One of the leading hotels in New York and still an institution. Some people say the rooms are aged, but I would rather say that the rooms have character. They breathe the history of this hotel and I think this is also what makes this hotel special. The staff is friendly and although it is a large hotel they make you feel special and notice you and your habits. This is one hotel which made me really feel home away from home.
The location on Park Avenue makes it ideal for shopping and sightseeing with many sights within walking distance. Subway station is close.

Make sure to bring an extension cord. Our bathroom did not have an outlet in the bathroom so we had to use a hair dryer in the other room. The television volume seemed to fluctuate from sound to mute, but we did not watch much television anyway.

The staff was wonderful, especially in the presence of some very obnoxious customers but housekeeping did forget to take care of the room one of the days we were there.

Overall, I liked the hotel but it is quite pricey. I am guessing this is due to the history and prestige of the hotel. If you visit, enjoy!

There is nothing that will describe being in a place that you've dreamt about all your days. From the clock, the Sunday brunch, the evening aperitifs to the historic rooms- all was great. I don't know that I'll return- only because I like to explore all hotels, but this is one to put at the top of your list if you haven't been.

Why?

One of the only old money hotels left in the city. I would recommended this hotel if your a younger couple or have ever stayed here as a child because everything has stay the same in a good way. I've never had an issue out of 10 times I've stayed here along with their spa bravo!

Largely enjoyed my stay at the hotel, never got around to the world famous Waldorf salad made popular in the UK by Fawlty Towers.

Warning: Every employee is a concierge, not a doorman or busboy, address them as such and tip appropriately.

We stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon. Check in was easy, when we got to the room there were rose pedals just inside the door, champagne was chilled and ready to pour, rose pedal heart on the bed, everything was perfect. Good view of the city, couldn't have asked for more, highly recommend this hotel, we will be back!

The Waldorf-Astoria has certainly had its moments,...

The Waldorf-Astoria has certainly had its moments, and no doubt is historic for a reason. Unfortunately, as seen in so many recent reviews, it no longer carries that luster or sensation of days gone by. Instead it combines great antiques and memories with dusty walls, dirty carpet, and sad service.

Knowing that it is closing down in a month, we decided to join our friends visiting from Detroit in a weekend stay-cation at the historic hotel. We opted for a large suite that would accommodate our entire group, and I must say I was impressed by the size of the space. Huge living room, large bedrooms, spacious bathrooms, etc. I'm certain someone will pay a large sum in a few years for this to be their updated condo. However, as beautiful as I am sure it once was, I couldn't help but also notice the dirty carpet, the dusty windows, and crumbling wallpaper. It is nice to remember the old days, but at some point, things need to change... which is apparently exactly what is about to happen.

We did enjoy several cocktails in the lobby lounge, which were good, if not grossly overpriced. And the same goes for Bull and Bear restaurant, which we went on multiple occasions (once courtesy of the free drink vouchers provided for our rooms not being ready on time). The atmosphere is certainly elegant and old world, but the service was mediocre at best, relying on disgruntled workers that have (literally) worked there for 30+ years. That old school mentality, especially when attending to a younger crowd, was quickly lost on me. Absolutely no conversation, no attention to detail, no courtesy... just make a drink and collect your money. Same goes with the doormen, with their frazzled clothes and lack of greeting, which really is their only job! The friendliest staff was the cleaning crew and bell boys, who were very attentive and pleasant, always greeting us with a hello and a smile... lovely!

The biggest disappointment of the weekend was when a security worker named Frank came to our suite door to ask us to lower our volume during a late-night conversation. Mind you, we realize we were having a discussion at a very early hour, but we were sitting around in pajamas having a normal-volumed conversation between friends. I'm sorry if your walls are so thin that people could hear us talking. Frank was incredibly rude and disrespectful to our civilized group, claiming that it was time for people to sleep and not a reasonable hour for whatever our group was doing. With all due respect, I don't care what others do with their time and how they maintain their schedule, but that does not mean that I have to abide by the same schedule or follow their rules. I paid the same amount as others in the hotel and can sleep whenever I choose. I do not need to be approached by security to teach me of a proper lifestyle and scheduling - especially when he has improper etiquette and a horrible approach in doing so. Huge letdown that this was the way their team approached this subject!

All in all, I was sad when I heard that it was closing down... until I stayed there. It's definitely time for change, and I hope that it will be gorgeously remodeled and staffed with a strong and elegant group that establishes new tradition and builds a new bond between its clientele. God speed in doing so!

Saw Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic - beautiful location, really interesting, historic venue. All staff (hotel and event) were excellent. The show was superb and I would highly recommend it, even though it's moving to a new location soon.

Unsurprisingly disheveled and in need of its upcoming renovations. I stayed here in '92 and it didn't feel like much had changed. Even being on an expense account the charges seemed unreasonable. Cheeseburger and a glass of Cabernet (house) ordered through room service? $61.

No doorman available upon arrival or check-out. Same goes for bell staff.

I read many of the reviews here giving the WA very low and poor marks, so it made me somewhat nervous when I made my reservation for a stay to celebrate our 25th anniversary. But there were good reviews as well, and it is the Waldorf - you can't find many hotels as historic or well-known - so I decided to take a chance.

I'm so glad I did. The hotel is amazing, and I saw none of the concerns the negative reviews listed here. The staff was always gracious and helpful, the young man at reception gave us two free drinks to celebrate, and the room - ours was a Luxury King - was very spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was clean and tidy, and the bed was a delight.

This is a luxury hotel in every sense. We look forward to another stay on our next trip to the city.

I stayed in this hotel many years ago coinciding with a visit that George Bush Sr. made, it was a tradition at that time that the US presidents stayed at the Waldorf Astoria and it was well worth it, as all NYC hotels have small rooms compared to what our Spanish or Caribbean hotels have us used to, the building is an art-deco monument in all aspects from its main hall to the elevator doors, lately I know that it was refurbished and its location is exceptional

Nice stay, though they had given away my suite on arrival they immediately accommodated me in another room and provided a number of drink and food vouchers totaling over $100. Though you will need it, this is a top tier hotel in NYC, drink were about $25 each and food was expensive as well. Close to all you might want for dining and entertainment downtown. Will update next time I stay, if they have my room right...

the hotel might have been "grand" in its day, however, I found the hotel to be old in that the rooms are not inspected and kept up in mint condition.. as an example, the shower door was stuck and would not close. the water hot and cold are old fashion and the pressure and shower head was old and in disrepair..those are easy to keep up and they were not..

it is so unfortunate that the hotel continues to charge to use wifi and the gym facilities..you can use free wifi in the lobby but that is just not practical..

very very noisy location with horns blowing for almost 15 hours a day with no measures of sound proofing that I could tell in the rooms..even though I was on the 19th, felt like I was right on the street with the traffic..it got quiet at around midnight and started back up at 7am..

from my own personal opinion, I think it is and "overpriced" old hotel that was certainly great back in the day, but not up to modern standards..

the service and care was outstanding by the staff, but they are limited in what they can fix or do based on the age of the hotel..

the prices of course for everything in the hotel were also ridiculously high, $10 for a bottle of Amstel light, etc..Although I certainly expected to pay higher prices, I just think this was too high..most folks like myself just leave the hotel and find other places to eat and drink.. I think if the hotel was more reasonable in the prices, I would have dined there..

so very nice sophisticated elegant old atmosphere, but unfortunately it was a 1 shot deal for me, I think I have learned it is "overrated" now, but I understand was one of the finest hotels in nyc years ago..

Worst customer service experience - ever - do not stay here. I've been trying for several days to have them send me my hotel folio and they wont answer or return my calls or emails, have left me on hold so long I've had to hang up each time and one person at the front desk hung up on me.

Stayed here for our honeymoon. Staff was wonderful, hotel bar is a must, concierge was very helpful. Our room was immaculate and up to date. Unfortunate to hear they wont be taking reservations past march.

King Suite: Pretty horrid. The rooms are incredibly outdated, the wall paint is thick/chipping and everything in the room scratched up, torn, dirty and cheap. The windows are so cloudy and dirty that I wanted to vomit. I'm sure this place was fabulous and grand in my grandfather's era, but it's nearly run to the ground now.

Unless your staying in a suite don't bother. Price paid for room (double bed superior) not worth it. Room very old, chipped paint on window panels, scratched bathroom surface, old furniture, and not an impressive bed. Should have stayed at a new modern hotel in the city, but I wanted to stay in a piece if American history and this is what I get.

I had stayed here in 1993 and remember the hotel being very nice. I booked based on my experience in 1993. I recently stayed here in July 2015. My overall experience was not that of 1993. Rooms looked very outdated. The telephone in the room appeared to be one of the cordless beige phones from the early 90s,with buttons hard to push. The paint was peeling from the bathtub in the restroom. The base of the vanity looked like it needed to be replaced. Water was dripping from cealing in the restroom after a hot shower. Possibly from bad ventilation in the restroom. Caulking in the restroom above the toilet had mold. I generally don't notice these things, but all it takes is 1 of these things to expose the rest. Outside the room, parking attendant in the garage was rude. He asked me for my last name for the parking ticket. I have a long last name, so I showed him my drivers license so he could write it down. He did not look at it and just told me,"I can't read that". This hotel had a great reputation, but that seems to be something of the past. I dont think I will be staying here again. I beleive there are much nicer hotels in Manhattan for the same price point.

Yes, this is the famous Waldorf Astoria. If you have a lot of money to spend, do it here - it will be an amazing experience! If you don't, stay elsewhere...the rooms for us middle class citizens are small, there are no amenities, and little in the way of views.

Rooms are very outdated and don't feel clean. Stains on the carpets, bad smell, peeling wallpaper, dusty, dark. I needed to get into the minibar for a drink of water and it was locked. I couldn't wait to go home.
