Good views, expensive restaurants, midtown location. Pay the extra few dollars for the upgrade though, a colleague didn't and their room was pretty awful, while I ended up with a nice suite.

Get there before it closes down. Great location an views. Good proximity to all of nyc and transportation.
It can certainly stand to have the upcoming renovation
A great place the history is present the super friendly staff excellent service and location
Nice place with amiable staff. Is supposedly closing down soon.
The waldorf Astoria was simply delightful. Twas a grand old time.
Lovely hotel with the best staff in NYC. Staying here is an experience more than anything. So much history in this place.
The bartenders are top notch, as are the drinks and liquor quality. Although it can be a bit pricey.
just stopped by to check out the building. very nice architecture and detailed craftsmanship
Fantastic lobby and wonderful Ambiance but if only the rooms were kept up to a higher standard for the price you pay.
The bathtub/shower did not drain well in our room so you were showering in 6 inches of water.
Paint peeling on the walls too
The a/c did not work either and no free wi fi in your room. For over $500 a night
I've stayed at hotels under $80 and the rooms are just as large and beds just as nice and free wi fi.
The staff where fantastic though and always polite and ready to help.
One evening, an elderly man and woman entered a small hotel. They wanted to find shelter because it was raining. The two headed to the front desk hoping to book a room.
"Do you have an empty room?"
Not wanting the old couple to go to the streets to find a place to stay while it was raining, the receptionist led them to a room and said: "It's not the best but at least you won't have to run around looking for guests in weather like this. "
Seeing that the room was arranged very neatly and tidy, the two old guests happily entered.
The next morning, when they wanted to pay, the receptionist immediately replied, "No need, the room you live in is my room, have a nice trip".
It turned out, because of two strange guests, the receptionist had a long night outside the counter. The old man, deeply moved, told his opponent, "Son, I met the best hotel operator, right in front of me. You will receive a reward."
The hotel staff beamed, saw the old couple go to the door and quickly forgot the story of that day.
Two years passed, and suddenly one day he received a letter. In the letter, the old man reminded him of the story that night with a ticket to New York for a set date.
The old man made an appointment with the receptionist at a corner of the intersection of 5th Avenue and 34th Street. He pointed to a new, fairly large building and said, "That's the hotel I built for you." "Are you joking?" Replied the surprised receptionist.
The old man is the famous millionaire William Waldorf Astor. The hotel he built was called The Waldorf Astoria. This is a gift the man gave to the young receptionist George Boldt - the first manager of the hotel.
A remarkable tribute to culture and refinement. Ah, what memories. Even before I attained success and wealth.
A NY institution closing down is always a sad thing.
We stayed at the Waldorf-Astoria January 3 - 6, 2013, to celebrate our 28th Wedding Anniversary and we loved it! We were upgraded from a queen room to a two room suite and the gentleman that checked us in was wonderful to us! I read the reviews before we went and was kind of nervous but was so relieved when we were checked into our room and saw just how fabulous the Waldorf truly was! Our room was quiet, the bed was a-m-a-z-i-n-g and we truly enjoyed our time there! Truly a landmark hotel!
One of the great hotels in the city. Even if you are not staying you can visit the lobby and enjoy all the luxury that exudes.
Very nice hotel. Classic.
Perhaps the rooms soon will need a little attention...
Located very good.
Expensive breakfast...
Absolute rude staff with a preconception of their guests. Stayed as part of a package for my wife's fathers 75 birthday and my wife's 40th. Would never stay again. I tried to get a coffee and a biscuit in the lobby and was told I would have to pay for it. I told the waiter to charge my room as I had expected to pay but told the rude so and so he could swim for a tip. We had just cruised 1st class on the QM2 so we don't do things on the cheap. We will stay in the Plaza next time
The hotel is beautiful, but their rooms are very outdated. Should def. renovate. Good location.
This was the most gorgeous hotel I ve ever stayed in. I was blown away by how stunning the room was. I saw the lady from The Notebook in the lobby but I didn t want to say hey you re the old lady from The Notebook aren t you? I wish I had of seen Jimmy Fallon I probably would have just died from an instant heart attack because I love him so much though. If you re reading this I love you Jimmy Fallon!!!, oh they also have free breakfast
