Historic hotel in New York where presidents of all nations of the world have been hosted, including the USA, and visited by great personalities from the entertainment world. It will only be operational until February 29, 2017 as it was sold and will be part of a renovation process and will become separate suites.
So take advantage and visit this icon of the city.
We visited since we heard it was closing down. Didnt stay there but the lobby was pretty nice.
Grand old lady, now under renovation. Wait for the reopening.
When we arrived, we were given the opportunity to upgrade which we did and what a fantastic suite we were given (thanks Daniel, you were true to your word). The hotel itself is simply beautiful and fascinating and most of all, central to many of the iconic sights - Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Plaza, Time Square, Grand Central Station to name but a few. Breakfast at Oscars' is not to be missed neither is dinner at The Bull and Bear. The best way to end the evening is to visit the hotel's bar - Michael and Blenny produce some wicked cocktails:) Will most definitely go back.
Exciting hotel
Have stayed at the hotel with my family for a week. Stayed in the older department, which therefore did not live up to our expectations. Location is for 5 stars.
This is Pre-Review. I am surprising my wife with 2 tickets to opening night of Jeff Lynne"s ELO at Radio City. on Friday, Sept 16th. I heard this "Historic Hotel" was going to be renovated (shameful), so I knew she would love one night there before it closes to public. So this is a surprise for her also. Jeff Lynne at Radio and a night in the WALDORF! Anyone wonder why New York City is GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD?
Every year I go here for a Worship His Majesty Praise Service and I am so Blessed to share this experience with my Mom, along with our Brothers and Sisters in Christ! The Hotel is very Beautiful and kept very clean.
The Waldorf Astoria New York is a luxury hotel in Midtown Manhattan , New York City . The hotel has been housed in two historic landmark buildings in New York. The first, bearing the
same name , was built in two stages, as the Waldorf Hotel and the Astoria Hotel, which accounts for its dual name. That original site was situated on Astor family properties along
Fifth Avenue , opened in 1893, and designed by
Henry J. Hardenbergh. It was demolished in 1929 to make way for the construction of the
Empire State Building . The present building, at 301 Park Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets in Midtown Manhattan , is a 47-story 190.5 m (625 ft) Art Deco landmark designed by architects Schultze and Weaver, which was completed in 1931. The current hotel was the world's tallest hotel from 1931 until 1963, when it was surpassed by Moscow's Hotel Ukraina by 7 metres (23 ft). An icon of glamour and luxury, the current Waldorf Astoria is one of the world's most prestigious and best known hotels. Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts is a division of Hilton Hotels, and a portfolio of high-end properties around the world now operate under the name, including in New York City.
The service was lovely. My husband and I had drinks before bed at peacock alley and our waiter was quite knowledgeable and friendly. The room did get a bit warm as the air was off for the season, but it was a very nice stay.
This place is basically a constant big F U to the clientele. To simply check in, the line went out the door, while many reception desks were empty. We waited for over 45 minutes for the great generosity of a smile and having a key handed to us. Checkout is the same length - truly bizarre. At the price it is pure shamelessness the degree they skimp in not having more employees to move people through: they basically might as well have just said F U explicitly. I've never seen anything like it.
Everything was beautiful and was nothing but the highest class. Spectacular food.
We stopped in to have a drink in the bar. The bartender was great.
I love this hotel, every time I come I think of (Mom I missed the plane)
Oh my god what a beautiful hotel. The service is 2nd to none. I recommend this hotel to anyone ever! It's like stepping back into time...
I went to the Waldorf Astoria to see Steve Cohen's "Chamber Magic" event (mind boggling if you'd like to know) and feel in love with the iconic piece of history that the hotel is. The lobby is breathtaking and their period piece rooms are luxurious.
I was saddened to hear it will be renovated into condominiums beginning in February. What a shame.
I wasn't impressed. Hopefully after the renovations it will be amazing.
We were accommodated, in the month of April, excellent location, service. clean and comfortable rooms.
I have stayed at this absolutely fabulous property several times. The lobby is extraordinary and I love both the ambiance and Sir Harry's Bar.
Just walked through the lobby to see the place before it closes. Beautiful architecture that transports you to another time period. There were lots of people enjoying lounge in the lobby where there was live piano music. Worth a visit!
One of the finest experiences of my life. Utterly memorable.
Hilton Honors member, regardless of level, absolutely does not matter. If what we got was an upgrade due to status, I'd hate to see what a non-upgrade is like. We've stayed at other Waldorf properties and received impeccable service, so we thought the flagship in NYC would be the best of them all. Wrong!!
The rooms are outdated and in need of aesthetic touch ups. Bathrooms are mauve and terrible shades of beige from the late-80s. The elevators are loud, shaky, and dim. The hallways of a Days Inn are likely in better shape. Chipped paint, dust and cobwebs in crown molding. All a shameful display on the Waldorf Astoria brand.
I appreciated the pre-war thickness of the walls and doors to drown out the hallway noise. The restaurant downstairs is nice and the food is good, pricey but that's expected.
I'd stay several different places before staying here again, unfortunately, until Hilton gets serious and makes this hotel what guests are expecting. I will go for the Sunday brunch, but I will stay elsewhere.
Beautiful building with so much history. I've heard the new owners are planning renovations, hopefully all the beautiful art deco details will be preserved.
luxury hotel with singing very well located and excellent service. Good ratio quality \/ price
Food wasn't that good but the facility itself was gorgeous.
I like this place our band stays here while touring New York
I love. I love this hitel that shirs is in remidelation and is going to be closed for about 2 years
Rooms and hotel are antiquated. Lots of history though.
Went off season and had a lovely room at a reasonable price. Who couldn't love staying at the Waldorf
Location was easily accessible. Cannot comment on rooms service
Classic, iconic NY landmark hotel. Lived up to its reputation. Everyone needs to stay here at least once.
Stayed here two nights. Never again. After a nice dinner out on the town we brought back our dessert to our room. Called down to room service for a simple glass of milk and silverware. 40 minutes later we call down and someone rudely tells us it will be another half hour.
I called back down after the half hour, sat on hold for 5-10 minutes and was again told it would be another 15-20 minutes. Told them not to even bother.
You'd think for a $400+ a night hotel you wouldn't have this problem...
Very nice and clean hotel. Everyone is very helpful. The work out facility is has every workout equipment needed to get the job done. The spa is unbeliveable with first class service.
We had a wonderful time at the Waldorf Astoria during our four day stay in February, 2013. The hotel is one place everyone should visit at least once on a stay in New York City. It is so full of history and tradition, and even though we were new to the hotel, we felt like all of the people there treated us like old and trusted friends.
We were able to take the Thursday morning tour of the hotel with Karen as a guide. She told us many of the stories of the start of the hotel, and numerous anecdotes about the hotel and its many banquet and ball rooms. The tour includes lunch and I highly recommend it. It is also available on Saturday mornings.
The ticket desk was able to get us great tickets for Broadway shows, and Matt was very helpful and knowledgeable in every way. Sunny from the bell captain's service showed us our room with all of it's features. We didn't visit the health spa, but it looks like it could be a very relaxing experience. The hotel is missing a pool.
We had one fabulous meal at the Bull and Bear restaurant, with out of this world tastes. The breakfast buffet features everything you could possibly want for breakfast, and is worth the price considering what it would all cost separately.
The doormen give great service for getting cabs, and we found them to be more reasonable considerably then the proferred limo service for getting to the Met or Broadway shows.
The hotel is next door to the historic Saint Bartholomy Episcopal Church, and I would recommend taking in a short walk in and around the church.
There always seemed to be people asking if they could help you, and we felt very relaxed and at home in this marvelous crossroads of the world and of New York.
Great old world hotel. Rooms feel elegant, dated yes, and rather large. The lobby is enormous and decked out in grand carpets and marble. Stay here once even if you prefer modern hotels.
Definitely the most charming hotel in NY. The beauty of the Hall is unsurpassed. In the evening there is a pianist who cheers the already splendid atmosphere. The only downside is the lack of wifi in the room but there is indeed a fee in the lobby is free.
The interior design is outdated. The hallways smelled like cigarettes. Nice toiletries and staff. The lobby is huge and the lobby bathrooms were carpeted(I thought I walked in a dressing room!).
I was very surprised by the mediocre quality of the food. The service was very good under very crowded circumstances, but the food was mediocre (not bad, just not good) and very very rushed.
I made a reservation for 5 person (4 and a kid )so I made it with 3 beds when I get the room there was only 2 twin beds they said that they have to charge more for additional bed but never say nothing by the phone when I did the reserve also really bad costumer service
It was OK. Didn't feel so welcoming for regular people.
Central location for meetings conducted by Asset Management firms. Recall the days when my Mom went to hear Guy Lombardo perform on New Years Eve.
Great place, high class good service.. very accommodating.
This rooms in this hotel are large but very tired and worn. Don't be fooled by the lobby which is renovated. We will not be staying again.
Sorry to see this going Condo - a lovely hotel with wonderful service and a perfect location near Grand Central
What will happen to this iconic NYC establishment is anyone's guess. Scheduled to close in under two weeks to close for renovations. The history surrounding the Waldorf is unparallel, get there while you still can for their historical tour!
Great service in this historical hotel. I actually stayed here on a mini convention (meeting) from work. The rooms are a good size for a Manhattan hotel. We had high tea, which was fun. There are several restaurants in the hotel. But plenty of good food nearby. It is conveniently located to shopping, theatre, across the street from Central Park, Lincoln Center, FAO Schwartz (toy store), and more. Fun expensive place.
Loved the Art Deco and you feel like you went in a time machine. They have done a great job with the preservation.
This year I decided to spend my holidays with my family in this supposed 5-star hotel, but the impression I get from this hotel is the worst, starting because they handle a DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING, in our mail we managed the reservation and we had to Canceling $ 840 and leaving us with that is $ 953, aside from that, they charged us a deposit in advance, which even at the beginning they had not mentioned to us; As for the rooms, we were 4 adults and two children, and they only gave us 2 small beds, before the hotel reception we informed about the said accommodation and the receptionist very unwillingly gave us no solution, it was a lack of respect that before A problem like this, the receptionist or other hotel staff, do not have the kindness to solve it and finally the Valet Parking also had a terrible attention, knowing that we were guests of you and we received a lack of respect from the staff ... Being a 5 star Hotel Disque expected to spend a real vacation with my family and have a pleasant stay, but on the contrary, I bring the worst, a DECEPTIVE PUBLICITY AND LOUD CUSTOMER ATTENTION. The only thing that remains for me to say is that I am not satisfied with what happened, I will complain to the competent authorities.
Absolutely gorgeous. Perfect place to stay on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Christmas in the city! A neat ancient cliche yet so perfectly fitting and quite a liberating experience to have a break from the overobligated and tension of the masses during the Holidays. There are many different classes and styles of rooms it sends to occur to me, as I had spent my Prom Overnight at this Hotel in 1998, and I remember the decor and feel of the stay was certainly luxurious and 5 stars of exquisite hospitality. This time around, the room was not as fantastic and magical as the one I'd experienced 18 years ago. However, on the other hand there was nothing wrong with the room at all, nor the stay itself. It was just rather a bit "oldish" and not so much in a fashionably rustic appeal but moreso in need of a makeover. For an accommodation of 4 adults, for certain this room was shockingly tiny. The double beds were not even queen sized, they were full sized, but so luringly comfortable, it was about 1 notch of test beneath euphoria. This review is not myself complaining even though it may perhaps be interpreted that way. I am simply reviewing all that I'd experienced, and any flaw I'd mentioned was only mildly disappointing at most, for all the rest of the experience effortlessly compensated with its highly motivated and personable staff, and it's fabulously wide open, lobby of sheer royalty. While the establishment is blessed with the multitude of Wondrous surroundings with endless possibilities of entertainment and bustle, the mere magnificence of this 5 star hotel is enchanting enough to keep any guest on a short term stay mesmerized enough to enjoy the facilities and comfort within the building itself!
I booked a stay for my parents last night and yesterday morning it dawned on me that they were going to want a credit card presented at check in. I called the hotel at 6:30am and asked. They told me they had a form I should have filled out and sent five days prior to check in. The women I spoke to was very helpful and pleasant and told me she would email me the form and to fill it out and fax it. She would expedite it for me personally. Sure enough when my parents checked in there was no issue.
Upon checkout my parents receipt didnt have anything regarding the minibar. The receipt I got emailed to me had approximately $70 in charges. I asked my parents, they would NEVER use the minibar, and they told me they had a bottle they wanted to put in the fridge and moved a few things. I called the hotel's guest services and explained what happened. She said she would refund the charges immediately. She also mentioned since my parents used the in-room checkout they were unable to see the minibar charges.
While I did not stay at the hotel, my parents absolutely loved their room. Had a separate living room and second bathroom. Top notch. The customer service alone would make me stay in this hotel exclusively when I go to NYC.
We only dropped by to ask about their dinner options, but the staff was very friendly and helpful.
I always enjoy staying at hotels that charge $400 a night , and will offer wifi for $15.00 a day..
This place is an institution with the only personality of making feel little and sucking up from you as much monies as they can.. Breakfast for 6 ( buffet) $225.00 + tips.. Please make your reservation at a Boutique hotel, you will be better off then this train station..
great great hotel, a good address when traveling to the big apple
First and foremost, if you are visiting NYC and are looking for the true experience, the Waldorf Astoria is where you should be staying. If it's not, replan your trip. Almost anywhere else would be criminal. Second, why would you need to tead any further?
Absolutely gorgeous property. Staff are beyond helpful. Rooms are vintage with history but lovely bedding.
Easy commute via 6 train to 51st Street. Upset that they don't provide coffee but at social events, there are freebies involved!
Rooms are old, service wasn't impressive. Long lines at reception. Room service food sat in hallway for a long time.
Rooms were clean bed was comfy but don't know why you would pay that much yo stay there.
Sad to hear of closing of Historic location with fantastic touches and design.
"Lovely atmosphere, very relaxing". We recently stayed at the hotel as part of a one night. I felt very well treated & relaxed. Would definitely recommend & will definitely stay here again.
Mythical Palace - Skyscrapers
It is an inescapable place marked by history with its art deco style.
Excellent bedding
Space
Privilege a high floor for the view
Look at the photos for the view
My wife and I stayed overnight because we attended a wedding in NYC. Definitely overpriced for what you get (older room and the such) but the historical look was neat. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Good prices, room isn't as extravagant and the staff/service isn't as accommodating as other hotels. Its a trade off with this hotel.
Took my mom to New York for her first visit to the city. We stayed at the towers and everything was flawless in Suite 36J.
