Such amazing access to free art education. Parking is $20 but the museum is free, so carpool with your buddies. There are such amazing pieces at the Getty and theres so many different minds of art; photography, sculpture, paint... etc.
Do not plan on seeing the entire venue in one day. Choose what you want to see in advance, purchase head set IN Advance. Sometimes they are not available do to tours and school outings. We will be back.
Probably the most beautiful museum I've ever been to in terms of setting and architecture. The galleries are also great, and the fact that the museum is free (although parking isn't) is mind blowing.
The permanent collection at the Getty Center pales in comparison to the comprehensive collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, but the mountain top setting of the Getty Center is what makes the facility worth visiting.
Traffic and parking near the museum are a nightmare. Better public transportation and signage would greatly reduce the number of frustrated patrons. Employees performing crowd control were courteous, but it was clear that the facility was beyond a comfortable operating capacity when I visited.
Absolutely AWESOME place to go. No way to see it all in one day. Exhibits are super. Free docent tours ARE A MUST!!! Take advantage of ALL smart phone apps and audio guided tours. Take time to see your favorite styles of art, sculpture, and architecture and plan to come back to see the rest. Entrance is only $15 per vehicle NOT per person!!! Parking is only underground and fills up almost instantly. No RV parking. Gift shop is good & prices are fair. Views of the ocean to the West and of LA downtown is breathtaking. Food prices are outrageous. Plan to spend and ENJOY the whole day. GREAT for the whole family!
Beautiful European paintings: Italian art of the 14th and 15th centuries, Rembrandt and other 17th century Dutch Masters, etc. Beautiful gardens and architecture.
Spectacular, awesome and impressive! Cannot say enough about the place. Favorite space is the gardens, art in and of itself. The museum spaces are well laid out and the outdoor areas between buildings are very inviting. Most impressive is that you can go here for free!!
This is a can't miss stop in LA in my opinion. One could easily spend a whole day here. The collection is large and varied with interesting temp exhibits. There is a restaurant that is white linens quality and great service (There is cafe which is a cheaper option and plenty of snack carts throughout). The spaces are open and airy with plenty of room to take a break from crowded exhibit rooms. The multiple views of LA are captivating. We spent 5 hours there and we felt we just scratched the surface.
Nice museum but I feel like the people that were in standing next to the exhibits were not very good at explaining why certain things couldn't be done. They just said don't do it and that was it.
I have been to museums all over the world. This is in my top free favorites. 1) free entry only pay for parking (this includes audio tour) 2) not gummed up with niche modern art, highlights historical pieces 3) more than just paintings! There is displays of fun collections of furniture as well 4) staff are amazing! I sprained my ankle and security came to inspect, wrap and ice my ankle, and brought me a wheelchair too!
Definably check out the cool giftshop and get something!
Visits there are always a rebirth for appreciating humanity and the gifts of the artistic. Additionally, The Getty architecture and grounds are soul soothing as are the vistas of the greater LA area and Pacific ocean including channel islands. The services are excellent from parking, to courtesy train, accessibilities, and excellent cafe/restaurant. Ahhhhh.
This is an amazing value. For only $15 parking (entrance is free), you can see some of the most astounding western art - classic and modern. The architecture, gardens, and view are amazing. Highly recommended.
My husband and I had an amazing trip to the Getty. Museums are not his "thing", but he was impressed by the architecture and the travertine. He told me he thought he was going to hate it, but he had a blast walking around admiring the structure, asking the tour guides questions about construction, and admiring the stunning! views. The place is huge, so we picked one tour to get a feel for the place, and then we walked around on our own for a bit. I think it would be difficult to take in the Getty in one day. We got there when it opened Saturday, and while it was busy it was not overwhelming. I did go back alone during the week, and several schools were there on a field trip which made for a much more chaotic, less leisurely / peaceful experience. The gardens are a must see!
Beautiful views of LA. The garden was very calming to relax at. There s an uber drop off and pick up zone at the bottom of the hill that it sits on which is convenient.
Some very cool books and items here. Might want to put the Mapplethorpe books up a bit higher. Kids were looking at these works with no clear understanding why there were naked men photos on a museum gift shop. Fyi
I would say this is a quintessential stop for anyone visiting Los Angeles (and of course a place for those of us who are local to remember to take advantage of on occasion). The art collection is impressive, the temporary exhibits are usually very interesting, and the grounds themselves are a work of art. The architecture and the gardens alone are a good reason to visit. Another obvious draw is that it's free. It's $20 to park, which is still a bargain if you have a car full of visitors, but it also has a bus stop out front. Walking or taking a bike or scooter up can be dangerous on the high-speed Sepulveda with no sidewalks, but it can be done too.
I love this place !!! It's only $15 to park and it's free admission. I love the gardens the views of the city in diffrent parts of the museum. The restaurants also have wine which is a plus+
What an incredible place! Besides the numerous amount of art, it also has amazing garden and gorgeous view. The little walk to the museum has nice view of the city as well. It was like a trip to paradise.
A place where you can combine green trees and grass carving art with many fine art paintings, all the leisure you need is here. Coupled with California's sunshine and just good dry, it is really comfortable. If you visit, pay attention to the supplement of water.
Amazing place! Wonderful views inside and out. One day is not enough to see it all! A place to visit in different times of the year to see the gardens.
I can't imagine a nicer museum. Free admission, beautiful grounds, great pieces of art that captured my attention and made me feel happy somehow. Lots of famous names too - Degas, Monet, Renoir, Goya, etc etc. A must!!!
If you visited any average museum in Europe (Vienna, Paris, Munich, Antwerp, you name it), the art exhibited at the Getty Museum is quite disappointing. The entry is free and that is what you get. You pay ten dollars for parking and that is not really worth it. It takes quite some time to get in because you need to ride a tram up the hill. The museum store sells soap and jewelry where you really ask yourself what that has to do with art. Two stars: one for the views you get over the city and one because they don t charge you. For the rest, I don t really share/understand the admiration people have for this place.
Absolutely stunning. Loved everything about out visit to the Getty Center; from the tram ride up to the museum, to all of the fine art and sculptures, it was nothing shy of beautiful.
I have never been to an art museum before and this has ruined me for any Other!!! It is incredible!!! Food is a bit expensive for what it is, but if you bring a lunch thaat won't be a problem. I also met Luis Guzman there so you might see a celebrity on your visit so that's a plus.
It's a great museum, parking isn't easy.... not enough large car spots. Try and find the electric vehicle charging... its on the way out.... that's a great design. It's not marked.....and there's no signage really. People are nice , however no one seems to really care. They yes you to death..... that's fun.
I love love love this place. You could Uber or even better, take the bus to it and then you don't have to pay the parking, ($20) the actual entrence to the museum is free. I also recommend the arquitecture tour. It a great way to learned more about the origen of the museum.
If you go by bus, it doesn't cost to go to the Getty! Well worth it and the grounds will be spectacular in another week or so like this week. They have an ancient Nile exhibit, which was informative seeing the Ancient World connecting; Egypt; Greece and Rome. I particularly liked the Ancient papyrus with ancient incantations next to the Mummy. Had energy coming off of it like a relic! Be sure to go early as there is plenty to see and with a driver's license or Passport you can use the lecture CD with earphones to get the most info on the exhibits!
Such a nice place to visit, I went there on a Sunday morning and it was so pleasant. If to visit L.A you should definitely stop by at Getty. I spent maybe 2.5 to 3 h here
The Getty is a fantastic museum and a must see for any visitor. Admission is free and 20 for parking unless you come after 3. The museum itself is huge with multiple buildings all housing various collections, some permanent and others changing. The museum also has a fairly extensive grounds with some beautiful gardens and landscaping and views overlooking the surrounding area. Be prepared to spend several hours here and ride a tram up from the parking lot!
This is a wonderful museum. A variety of exhibits to see and the building and environment is also amazing. Free admission but you do have to pay for parking. You can easily spend several hours here and it's family friendly.
We only had few hours. Enjoyed tour of 'highlight' art, van gogh's, bernini, Turner, davinci sketch, excellent tour guide, easy access and free entrance!
What I'd consider the best view of the greater Los Angeles area and art to your heart's content, The Getty is far to the west of many of Hollywood's attractions, and subtly secluded within the hills near Santa Monica, alongside the 405. Parking has a cost, but coming to the Getty is free, and once you step onto the tram, you realize how much it is worth it. The tram takes you high as you look onto the highway and the city in the distance. Once you're off, you're free to roam and explore what the Getty has to offer. Countless numbers of art pieces await, but my favorite part definitely has to be the architecture and gardens. Very peaceful and tranquil. The Getty makes a great place to visit on a weekend afternoon.
We took the impressionism tour at 2pm. The guide Kim was very informative and enjoyable to listen to. The grounds are captivating and the art is unparalleled!
