I asked for repair because the safe in the room did not open. Because it is an old hotel, there is a problem in maintenance. The air conditioner does not work or the refrigerator does not cool.
It is very disappointing that the concierge staff who had been working for many years has been wiped out.

Service was excellent. They were very nice and approachable. Very quick to ask if we wanted anything to drink, needed anything else, etc. I really enjoyed my time at The Royal Hawaiian!

The exterior walls of the building are uniformly pink and retro in shape and very sophisticated. As it is an old building, it feels the oldness everywhere, but it is a hotel including it. I do not recommend it for those who seek modern comfort.
On the beach in front of the hotel there is a towel rental exclusively for hotel guests, and umbrellas and beds are available (use by reservation). The main street is very close to the beach, as the hotel is located far back from the main street.
There are a number of souvenir shops and branded clothing stores in the hotel, so you can enjoy shopping at the same time.
There is also a free lounge exclusively for JTB customers, but within a fixed time, you can eat and drink soft drinks, alcohol (beer, wine, etc.), cheese, snacks, nuts, etc.!

Ridiculous rates $300+ a night & they can't even pay their workers a fair wage? Also if you aren't a guest they won't allow you to use their restrooms. Last I was there Saturday 11/17th it was their 40 something day being on strike. Don't stay here or at any of the other hotels nearby, these people are on strike, they have their voice, bullhorns on loud, drummers drumming, if their management won't hear them out YOU DEFINITELY WILL. Don't let these hotel corporations gaffle you, their short staffed, & you won't get much sleep but they won't even warn you about the strike happening, ask yourself why?
Because they just want the money.

This hotel feels the history of Hawaii. The quiet garden and the Waikikikibeach are wonderful from the crowds of the Royal Hawaiian SPC. Early morning morning was a time of bliss while watching diamondhead!

I had a wonderful time with the gorgeous architecture, interior decoration, and space. You can see people wearing wedding dresses here and there, probably because they often use bridal dresses.

Our room is nice, but the pool & beach staff are terrible. Pool is a kiddie sized pool, when I asked for information I was told prices to rent a beach chair. Dont want a chair I said politely... I'm looking for the pool. That's it as he points to the kiddie pond. Unless you want to walk to the Sheraton.

It is still 4 stars because I can not stay.
A princess hotel where everything is pictured. It is the place I want to keep secret except for the use of the shop and the restaurant.

Bad customer service, was charged $800+ more for my stay at check in than quoted. Had an item stolen from our room and the management was not helpful until the police were called. AC doesn t work so good had to set it to 69 to maintain 78. Over priced for what you get. Would not recommend or stay here again.

Unbelievable hotel. Once inside their courtyard it's hard to believe you are still in the city. Love their layout and their friendly staff. Easy to get any where nearby with the hotel being so accommodating. Truly loved my stay here!

it has a great location. The valet staff is not up to par and I would not recommend this hotel over halekulani. I grew up here, and the aloha spirit at the royal hawaiian seems to be based on money, and how much you tip. There are better hawaii hotels than this currently. The staff is just not synced up to to the level of service of a 5 star hotel. I am disappointed but hopeful that the management improves the level of service and returns to the concept of the aloha spirit. That being said, the location on the beach is what we pay for and why we put up with less than acceptable care. just to say that the halekulani is a true 5 star hotel, and there are others better worth the price that is paid.

Unfortunately the timing was not good with the strike. Our room was dusty and not serviced. We had to make our own beds and remove rubbish from our room and replace our bath towels. Overall there was no porter for bags and there were no bars or restaurants to service the guest. More annoyingly we were not informed of the strike which started at least two weeks before our arrival. We should have been notified before and given the opportunity to receive a complete refund. To re organise an alternative itinerary. I see this as an appropriate portion should be refunded to compensate the disappointment of our vacation.

Finally got to stay here and loved it. We were able to find it on Hotwire and got a great deal (tip - look at reviews and ratings and you can usually tell which hotel it is on Hotwire). Absolutely beautiful place with lots of Koa wood used throughout. I loved looking at people in photos at the hotel from the 20s. Main surprise was how quiet the place was even though it is in the heart of Honolulu. Bar restaurant has limited (very pricy) menu but is right on the beach.

It is great other than two things:the lounge and the air-conditioning. The lounge has limited and basic food options. The air-conditioning unit in our room started leaking. Although they sent someone up to fix it and it was fixed by the time we got back to our room.

I want to start with a big Thank You to beautiful manager Brandee, she is sweet and helped our stay extremely memorable. For my husband s birthday and our anniversary in July, we stayed in The Suite with a look out to the ocean which was spectacular. Estrelita, our house keeper, was awesome at keeping our room nice and clean everyday we came back. Can t wait to come back in the future.

LOVE this landmark hotel. Although it is in need of an update, it might sacrifice some of the nostalgia. There is a covered patio restaurant where you can eat beachside and it offers direct access to Waikiki. Impossible to miss with the pink facade and marbled walkways that lead right to the beach.

Fun Fact: those 'old fashioned' phones by the elevators actually, immediately connect you to a live person. Surprise.

The Pink Palace has been an institution in Waikiki Beach since it opened in 1927. Absolute best location in Waikiki and part of the SPG program so can benefits if you have status with that program. Standard rooms can be on the smaller side but nicely renovated. We always come here when visiting Honolulu - really cannot think of any other place we would possibly stay because the location and amenities are that good for Waikiki.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Waikiki, less than a block away from the main street, surrounded by shops and restaurants, but having that private and cozy atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. He needs more restaurants and more accessible spa prices. The pool is pretty small.

Gorgeous place to stay, right on the beach, great food and depending on who you go through to book your room you'll get free breakfast vouchers for their restaurant. Beach towels ready for guests by the beach. Shops of all kinds on the first floor and the hotel concierge is also great, they can book anything for you! The only thing I would complain about and the reason for 4 Stars is their photographer isnt great and definitely not worth what I paid. He used his pop up flash for every photo leaving some photos with shadows and some looking blown out. Some photos were blurry and not in focus and the worst for me was the way he posed us. When I got home and looked through all the photos his angle was horrible and not flattering at all. I bought the most expensive package where I got every photo taken and was not able to see the quality of the photos as they were displayed very small.

My husband surprised me with a nice 2 night Staycation at the Royal Hawaiian for my birthday. We stayed on the 16th floor of the Mailani Tower in an Ocean Front room. Our arrival was easy, no stress at check-in. Our bags were brought directly to our room, quicker than I could get my phone out to take a few pictures of the view. All staff was very nice and helpful. We tipped abundantly since a lot of these kind people have been out of work for months. It's been a nice break for the island but low occupancy has caused hardship for locals that depend on tourism to pay their bills. Please consider this if you stay here, if you can afford to travel and have the disposable income. Spread some aloha to the people that impress you. There were some things I thought could improve; the shower had mold, the Japanese toilet had mold, the bedside table lamp in my room was very dusty, and the light switches and door handles had visible dirt when we got there. Thankfully they leave you some alcohol wipes and I came prepared with my own Clorox wipes. I went around and cleaned the room up myself. No big deal, I just thought it was unfortunate for such a nice place to have that issue. One thing I couldn't find in other reviews- the safe is large enough to fit a laptop, the balcony has an electrical outlet, and the mini fridge has a TINY roughly 4x4 frozen section in the top corner. Hopefully, that information is helpful to someone wondering what they can pack with them. I hope to stay again someday, maybe in a historic room next time.

Just got back from staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Great location in the Waikiki area. One reviewer said it was near the city center. It is not. It is the center of the Waikiki area. the hotel is tucked in and away from the busy areas. Once you are on the grounds of the hotel it is very quite. If you are looking for ultra modern this is not it. It has a very sophisticated style, reminiscent of the time it was built, 1928. I noticed a lot of dressed up couples and parties, who were locals came there for the fine dining.

Lovely

If you enjoy historic hotels with lots of character, this is definitely for you. Its public areas are full of thoughtfully curated displays about it's interesting history - plus a good array of boutiques that you can browse while strolling the thoughtfully designed and decorated halls. The views from my oceanfront room over Waikiki were amazing. The manager, Rachel, was immensely helpful, genuine, and friendly. The pool area is small and there aren't as many amenities or updates as newer hotels but that's part of the charm. For that reason, I feel like Marriott should have named this property an Autograph Collection rather than a Luxery Collection hotel setting that it reckons Mr more of the former than the latter. In any case, make sure to get the Pink Pancakes from the Mai Tai bar. They are, hands down, the best pancakes I've ever tried. If you're looking to experience the sensation of a storied past, staying at least one night here will be well worth it!
