Fantastic historic hotel in the middle of Waikiki....

Fantastic historic hotel in the middle of Waikiki. The rooms face the ocean and are spacious with a balcony which has a seating area to enjoy the view. At night it can be a bit noisy as the beach bars can be heard but once they go quiet one can only hear the ocean. The bathroom is big and they provide all amenities. Upon arrival I had a bottle of sparkling Rose with my name on it in my room. A nice touch and goes with the pink theme. The hot grounds are have shops a bar pools and they have their own bakery. The staff is super friendly. The entrance to the hotel is past the Sheraton with which the Royal Hawaiian shares the grounds.

I think this is the oldest hotel on Waikiki. It is super nice and just has that old school luxury feel. It's not as new and shiny as some of the other hotels in the area, but you can almost feel the presence of Elvis walking around the property.

A definite Luxurious stay and it s worth it! Hotel is very clean and it s connected to the Waikiki Beach and also next to the Royal Hawaiian Centre. Food is also amazing at the restaurants here. Only thing odd was you have to pay for the beach chairs and umbrella - which I found odd since every guest is paying a daily resort fee!

It must have been excellent to be a memory that has remained with me ever since September 1965 !!
Moved to Honolulu from Oregon at that time as my father was to be a professor at the university of Hawaii.
Upon arriving at the airport we were taken by our host to the Royal Hawaiian for dinner. What a memory - in such a plush restaurant we were served Mai Mai, French fries and peas.

My Stay here with about 18 other family members was horrible, Let me start by saying when I first got here on the 12th of July I was scheduled to be here for a 3 o'clock check in but due to delays at the airport I didnt arrive her until after 10 PM so my family entire day was wasted.i informed the supervisor romeo to see if they would be able to refund my day that was wasted if not maybe give me a upgraded room due to the inconvenience and the fact that I had about 5 different families that had rooms here at first they agreed to it and upgraded me a room for just one night but then I had to check out and go into a smaller room,I was very unhappy due to the amount of money that me and my family had spent here and then I also asked I they could waive my resort fees at the end of our stay and they only agreed to half and then our refrigerator went out and all of our food got spoiled and they ended up giving me 50 dollars for that incident. Then the next day our toilet was stopped up smfh on top of that the rooms was extremely small and you had to rent every spot by the beach or the pool which is crazy when you spend that much money to stay here,The list goes on but I'm done writing but when I tell you me nor my family will never stay here again and if you in ur family want to come somewhere to have a nice time and not have to worry about paying for everything then dont come here please!!!!

Did not stay here on this trip as it was booked - but we had to visit for pictures and happened to visit while a show was going on. Beautiful property with a great restaurant right on the beach (great food and drinks)

Overpriced traditional hotel.
Not very impressive service.... great location on the Waikkiki beach but.... closing the beach services at 5pm , running out of clean towels at 2pm and pool that is smaller than a normal private family pool is just not what you expect of a hotel in this price category.

I stayed in the Historic Garden Suite! Because the garden side or the room was dark, the room was old (historic?) Feeling and the area was big enough but personally it was not a preference. However, I could use the pool of Sheraton, so children 2 and 7 years old enjoyed the pool But the front floor was a really nice atmosphere and I felt good at check-in. Next I want to stay at the Mai Lani Tower.

Mai Tai's at sunset. Nothing better! Best patio on the beach in Waikiki. The drinks are awesome and the atmosphere is superb. I have been coming back here for over 35 years. It is a must do each time I visit. The patio has amazing views of Diamond Head and the ocean breeze is always lovely. Hawaiian music and hula dancing is just right. The hotel lobby is an experience all its own. A place to sit and rest from the usual frenetic Waikiki pace.

Beautiful hotel in Waikiki. Expensive, but one of the best locations on the beach. Walk to the beach in minutes. We stayed in the old building and found all the staff to be very professional, friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful and it has a bit of old imperial English charm about it. The Mai Tai bar was excellent - great views and a good selection of drinks and snacks. The breakfast at Azure was also very good. Highly recommended

This hotel is overrated.

This hotel is overrated.
Perhaps it's classified 5* because it's architecturally looked charming?
Comparing to other 5*, it does miss some details: small bathtub, refrigerator not working, garden view=no view (couldn't open the window curtains because my window faced directly to other people balconies), small pool, both garden and front lawn blocked entire week for use of a big group of hundreds noisy oversea tourists. This hotel charged $38plus taxes Resorts Fees per day, but to use the beach I had to pay another $40plus taxes per day for beach chairs.
Of course I had to wait hours to check in because my flight came early, but my room still wasn't ready at the check in time. My bathroom didn't have a shower curtain, I had to call and waste my valuable vacation time to wait for shampoo and shower curtain brought in. Then room key didn't work when I came back later. Front desk staff was sure that I demagnified my keys. They made me go downstairs to get new keys which still didn't work. Then I had to waste more my valuable vacation time to sit around while they changed the batteries on the door lock.
Since this hotel brags 5* and the cost start from $500 and up per night, I expected higher quality than a 2* hotel.
I found that staff attitudes were overall fine even with their little mistakes here and there.
Attitudes from managers level bothered me. When I brought up my concerns, the managers didn't wait for me to finish expressing my frustration, they already responded with their typical bs "ok ok yes yes sorry sorry" and acted like they couldn't wait for me finish talking because their time are more valuable than mine. For $500 a night, hotel managers could at least pretended some sympathy to a tired customer. Talking to the managers made me more angry beyond words. This was the third visit to Waikiki and I slowly grew to hate it. My experience from this hotel surely is the final straw. I'm so done with Waiki

This hotel feels so much more "Hawaiian" than most of the other mega-hotels around Waikiki. I love the sprawling pink buildings, the pretty grounds, and the open air lobby. The mai tais at the bar were very fresh and with some more creative twists than other places.

One of the best services from hotel personnel in my many years of travel. We stayed in the old wing which was nice. The high ceilings made up for no sea views. Great hotel location. The establishment itself was majestic in it's own way. My only gripe would be the scrambled eggs at the breakfast buffet. IMHO they were horrible! Nevertheless, the breakfast location and other items in the buffet were great.

This is a place where my father used to visit back in the day. I went in my first honeymoon there, and later celebrated 2 birthday weekends w my boyfriend when we lived in the Big Island. I cannot think of a more glamorous and memorable place that is surrounded by beauty and history . It s strange and sad to me now tho, bc my Dad and my bf whom I adored are both gone from cancer. I spent time there as a young girl in my twenties: so it s bittersweet: but it was so beautifully remodeled it was a real time machine experience. The Gardens where the oldest Palm Trees grow are still breathtaking , to walk the paths and smell the scent of plumeria blossom is beyond description. Mahalo for always being there. the pool area was where we used to lay out, and the posh feeling remains.

First placed that I stayed in Honolulu, so not too much to compare to. They only have one restaurant open in the evenings which required a reservation every night. There was only a breakfast buffet on sundays, however the breakfast menu was tasty. The Oceanside bar was very nice, with a limited food menu. The pool facilities were lacking big time, seems common in Waikiki. Rooms were excellent.

I do not recommend this hotel for anyone. Their customer service is horrendous!! Specifically Len in their guest experience department. I had the most bizarre interaction with him. FYI, this is a long story... I live in the mainland and my team pooled their money to purchase a $200 gift card to the Azure Restaurant for our boss and his family to enjoy while vacationing in Waikiki. I worked with Len's team on purchasing a gift card online and arranged for pick up. This situation takes a turn when, the gift card was picked up and delivered to the hotel that my boss was staying at (not the royal Hawaiian), but the hotel lost the gift card. To correct their mistake, they went to the Royal Hawaiian to repurchase a gift card to Azure. But the Royal Hawaiian said the original gift card was still there and gave the gift card to the hotel rep. Then, the hotel found the original gift card (they now had 2) and told me the Royal Hawaiian said they charged me twice and asked what I wanted to do with the 2 gift cards. At that point, my boss was going to arrive any time and I had no way to confirm if I was charged twice, b/c the charge took place on the weekend and it didn't hit my account yet. To not be liable for an extra $200 gift card laying around, I told them to include it with the other one and I would sort it out later. The situation turns bizarre when I get a call that evening, at 8:30pm PT, from Len (sp?) saying that they accidentally made two $200 gift cards and "What was I going to do about the extra one?" At that point, I was appalled, this guest services manager was shifting the blame from their mistake to me. He went as far as to tell me I knew the 2nd card wasn't charged to me when I told the hotel to include it in the gift and should have returned it. Then he tried to argue with me when I told him I was not going to pay for the 2nd card because it was their mistake, they shouldn't have made the extra card. I come from a customer experience background and the one thing you NEVER do is blame the customer, never. He then said they were going to cancel the 2nd gift card and offer some drink vouchers in exchange for the trouble. Keep in mind, they knew this was a holiday gift to an exec who was in Hawaii with his family to unplug. I went back an forth with them for 2 days and asked them to sort it out with the hotel my boss was staying at. During this time I called Marriott customer care and documented the situation and opened a claim. In conclusion, I would not pay for the extra card and they chose to reach out to my boss on his vacation and tell him they cancelled it. What is so frustrating about this whole thing is I am an event planner at a major corporation and I have booked MANY events, meetings, and hotel rooms in Marriott and SPG properties and have always had good service. However, this incident has caused me to pull out from working with Marriott in the foreseeable future. I will take my offsites, all hands, holiday parties, happy hours, and hotel bookings to other businesses that value their customers.

An amazing hotel! Truly luxurious from the moment you walk in and offers such a unique and refreshing take on hotel accommodations. The rooms are luxurious, the staff is attentive, the hotel grounds are kept meticulously, and it has an unbeatable list of amenities

The Queen of Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiian out classes them all. They manage to keep a piece of tropical paradise around the hotel which shields you from the noise of Kalakaua Avenue. The best time is the evening, with the night lights, the casual surf, and a romantic dinner with your sweetheart.

I only walked through the grounds checking it out. It was peaceful and serine throughout with a nice upscale feel. Only drawdown was that it was surrounded by the chant of the Union striking. Feel for them though since everything's about the mortgage usually.

We came for our honeymoon. Apart from the beach being close there is nothing good about this hotel. Not happy with the supposed king sized room. It was very small and dull- almost depressing. Bathroom is so small I kept hitting my arm on the toilet roll dispenser because it was so cramped. (I'm a pretty small build as well) Tv is old and weird, it doesn't tell you what's on you have to just keep flicking through channels. No balcony. Barely any light coming through to the room. The walls are paper thin so you can hear EVERYTHING that your neighbour's are doing. (Crying babies, shower, AC machine, talking and frequent door banging) Lots of shouting in the corridors as well from staff outside your room. Disgustingly overpriced for no reason - breakfast was $80 and I've had a lot better! Then they charged $440 for laundry which I was told was free!!!!!!!!!! And watch out for the extra charges even after booking your room. $35 mandatory per night for amenities whether you use them or not- on top of your room charge. I'd never stay here again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Stay at the Marriot resort down the road. Much better!

Oh and to top it all off the light broke and when we asked to get it fixed they said they'd send someone and they must have got lost cause they never came! By this point i think I was too annoyed to bother to chase that up. Ridiculous
