The number one zoo in oregon, well the oregon aqua...
The number one zoo in oregon, well the oregon aquarium in Newport maybe better.
The number one zoo in oregon, well the oregon aquarium in Newport maybe better.
Although all the animals are extremely racist i had a good time.
The elephant pool was so much fun. The whole zoo improved a lot from the last time I was there
This zoo is so beautiful!!! The signage for each enclosure was oddly sparse and yet it didn t seem to be an issue. This place is so beautiful - the enclosures seem well put together to maximize comfort for animals in captivity. The walk through the entire zoo was so great and captivating.
Sure has changed past couple of years. No more lorikeets sad. But everything else was great!!
Great place for the family. Food options are not great though.
A lot of stuff closed. Always says coming soon a new exhibit. Been that way for years.
One of favorite places to visit! I love seeing all the animals and their cool enclosures. Food there is kinda pricey though.
Beautiful zoo. It's on a hill, but I've been to worse! Wasn't too crowded when I was there.
The zoo is a lovely park, and they take excellent care of the few animals that they have, but there are too few animals and birds to see. The aviary is nearly empty. The Africa cafe was out of most of their menu by 1:30 on a very low attendance day. The food carts closed early. The price is too high for such a meager collection of creatures. I was really disappointed, especially when comparing it to just a few years ago.
This zoo is so great. We got an annual pass for the family. It's worth going to multiple times.
Went for zoo lights, was fairly impressive. Staff were super friendly, so dropped an additional star for customer service. I've seen bigger light displays at other zoos, but this one was really well done and was an overall wonderful experience.
Great place to get out, there was a lot of construction going on but the elephant expansion def worth going to see
I love visiting the Oregon Zoo! Wish I could have stayed for the Christmas lights, but it was still a fun experience.
The Oregon Zoo is awesome. So many animals and exhibits to see. Fun evenings in the summer for the annual concert series.
We went during covid 19. Allow the exhibits are close cousins it. We will be coming back.
Many animals were missing. I ll be excited when renovations are completed
Clean exhibits. Animals seem happy. A lot of exhibit in in a small condense area. Easy walks.
Portland Zoo is great. Not only is fun to visit it with the family, but also they have great events.
It's all about the lights at night not the animals unless you like Bats! Hoobladie wah!
Zoo Lights was a wonderful experience. So much to see. My 17 month old granddaughter love it and stayed awake the hole time. Highly recommended.
Love to see that they are expanding the elephant and rhino habitats as they have always been a huge joy for us to visit. Wish they had a way to move foot traffic better as people tend to push and crowd at certain exhibits, but what can you do? Very clean, and the setting is a gorgeous get away from the city, even being so close.
The two baby mountain goats alone are worth the trip. The animals are housed in large enclosures, and the elephant enclosure in particular is enormous. It's lovely to see animals treated so well.
I expect a lot I got a whole lot less we visited Portland in May it was the most boring zoo I think I've ever been to for the prices we paid and the amount of time we spent there parking with horrible thank you and we won't go back there again and we won't recommend it sorry I expected much more from Portland for some reason what a let-down
Fantastic zoo. The Pacific Northwest section was great, especially for someone from the opposite corner of the country
Fun place to go and see some beautiful sites. Loved the diversity of animals. Excited for their upcoming animals.
Great zoo. Was a little put off by the price (my hometown zoo is free) but we definitely got our money's worth. The painted dogs and the elephants were super cool and we got really good looks at the cheetahs. Would definitely recommend, for kids and adults.
A little confusing with all the construction they have going on right now but hopefully, it's for the better.
Layout of space is not well designed for large crowds. Poor drainage at walks with lots of ponding
Zoo has come a very long way in the 30 plus years ive been going! Animals have a lot more space or are getting the space. Good job all!
Went to the zoo with our adult children over the holidays. Animals are healthy, happy and well cared for. Don t let the protesters outside distract you. The grounds are lovely and the experience is so worthwhile!
It's a decent zoo for the animal residents. If you're picturing it as "animals behind bars" kind of zoo, I can assure you that it's not the case. And they have a building dedicated for veterinary care. Go in the winter months, weekday, if you wanna enjoy some quality time there. In peak seasons, the animals might be "peopled out".
What a wonderful place to be able to bring the kids.
Several large exhibits are closed; the polar bears, the monkey house, the rhino land. There are now so many food carts it seemed like they outnumbered animal exhibits. Felt lile we went to see food trucks and heavy construction equipment.Have been a season pass holder for years, after this year we will not be renewing.
I love all the exhibits and the different habitats. Especially the african section. The elephant spray stations are a cute touch. I didnt like how confusing it was to get around or even find the exit. I needed a few more maps personally.
It was a fun zoo. Unfortunately it was having construction for polar bears and chimp forest which was two big sections.
Experienced Zoo Lights for the first time and had a wonderful time. I rode the scenic train ride and walked around. Although I went by myself, I would go again. The zoo is under major construction and I feel like missed out on seeing things.
Super fun with the kids, lots of new stuff coming next year
I love this place! For the first time in my life I'm going to use words "bats" and "cute" in the same sentence! Oh, but they were! And what we learned about bats, fish, seals, elephants, and of course - Big Cats was fascinating! The Aviary was wonderful too!
I've been a number of times and have always been entertained. Giraffes are my favorite, but the monkeys are generally "up to no good" and can be amusing. It's really cool to see a baby elephant as well and how she and the older elephants interact. I haven't been to any of their concerts before, but I hear they're pretty good.
Great Place to go and explore!!! Love coming here, only downside is the prices! They went up to much!
Not many animals out to visit. Maybe it is wrong time of year.
They still had sections closed off due to construction, but it was fun. I cant wait for complete project to be finished so I can see the whole zoo, instead of parts of it.
An okay experience. We went in early winter. A lot of animals were not there. The seals, fish and otters were the highlight of the trip for us.
One of the most immersive North American Exhibits. The rest of the African etc exhibits were good but kinda boring.
The Oregon zoo is one of the best zoos I've been to. Large exhibits for the animals and we'll maintained facilities. The elephant habitat has been recently renovated and it is huge! They are currently renovating the polar bear, rhino, and hippo exhibits due to complete them in 2020. The zoo is very stroller friendly and there is plenty of shade for the hot days.
Zoo lights is pretty great! Kids loved it. I would recommend grabbing coffee or hot cocoa from your favorite shop before coming. We got hot cocoa here but it was Luke warm and watered down. Just due to the fact that thousands of people are coming through, hat is understandable
Went for the zoolights and it was really awesome, they did great work with the lights. Just wish we could've seen some animals
Our favorite things to do at the zoo is take our time, choose two or three animals to go see, spend as long as possible sitting or staying in the presence of the animals and just watch their behavior. When the kids lose interest and start running around we move on.
It important to mention that there are some great spots for the kids to be kids at the zoo.
1. The sand pit under the bridge. the sandpit is complete with bulldozers dump trucks sand toys shovels all kinds of things and a nice place for the parents to sit all under the bridge right next to the otter and seal habitat.
2. The insect house.during the winter of this has the benefit of being warm and dry having a place where the kids can crawl through a log peek through the holes and log there also puppets of mosquitoes and dragonflies, frogs, and all kinds of other animals. Is plenty of room for the kids to run around and little areas where they can learn about amphibious animals and insects and also ways to behave or change behavior to be kinder to animals and their habitats.
3. really close to the inside the house there is an outdoor area with lots of wood. Aloft crawl onto stumps to hop from a couple of areas where kids can build with blocks of wood a little structure to hide in and of course wood chips on the ground.
4. The animal statues playground. I think there's a rhinoceros, a camel, a bear, a ram. They're all made out of stone or concrete or something along those lines and they're fun for the kids to climb.
5. In the wild cats lion cheetah painted dog area there are 3 special areas that I can think of off the top of my head. The bronze lions and their cubs those are fun to climb on. The Jeep facing the cheetah habitat is really fun for the kids to climb up on and pretend to drive. And finally the Mongoose bubble where the kids can crawl through a tunnel pop up in a little bubble where the Mongoose can climb nearby and then they can get down through the tunnel and come outside back into the room where their parents are waiting for them.
6. There's a course the carousel we've never gone on it but I'm sure it's really fun.
that's all I can think of right now maybe the next time I go I'll come back and get it if I find out that I missed.
If you have a family of 4 and you guys plan on atleast doing two Zoo visits in a year I recommend you getting a Zoo membership.. after the 2nd visit the membership pays for itself!!
I viset atleast once a month! Really fun place, love to chill with my fam here.
Beautiful facility, happy animals, lots of fun for the kids! The memberships are well worth it, going to the zoo a couple of times a year and also sampling each of the partner programs and it pays for itself!
Wonderful zoo. Well maintained with friendly staff, and good enclosures. The new elephant enclosure is huge, and provides a ton of space!
Great zoo. Always improving habitats and increasing educational opportunities for species protection.
Also one of the best venues to see live music. If ya have not been to a concert at the zoo or to zoo light, you really should put it on your list.
I was able to see lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards up close many times.
The zoo is still a great place to visit in these Covid times. Newly re-opened, they've shut down a few things like the merry go round and the train. The whole place is one-way only, and they have folks before some of the indoor exhibits warning you to socially distance. And of course masks are mandatory. Still, the animals are all there, and the kids had a blast walking through and seeing them all.
The Oregon Zoo is an awesome place to visit. Not only is it a great zoo but they also offer awesome summer concerts and events like Zoo Lights. In the summer and other times when school is out they have zoo camp. Tonight I was there for my date's company Holiday party. The food was really good and there was a room rented out for us. We ate meal which included a tri-tip steak and several tasty sides. There was a cash bar with the option for cards. I was most excited for Zoo Lights. I hadn't been since I was a kid. I was not dissapointed. We got on the train, $5, which was worth it even as and adult sitting on an 8 inch tall bench. We got out and walked around it is truly a magical experience for all those who let it be! Great for kids and a romantic date too. Arrive early or take uber or public transit. The lot gets full quickly during the holidays.
There are a lot of animals that they advertise that are not there..
I have been to the San Francisco, and Sacramento Zoo, but the Oregon Zoo is still my favorite by far. I am happy to call myself a member! The animals are healthy and lively and the staff is happy to answer questions. The elephant area is huge. Recommend packing a lunch and sitting on the nice grass lawn.
Attended Violent Femmes concert at The Oregon Zoo, from performers to staff.... A++
Such a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours :)
Compared to other city zoo's...barely two stars. Construction everywhere, which may be a good thing for 2022 but now...terrible. Parking is pure nightmare. Honesty I gave a extra star because you can take the Max as it has it's own stop. Make sure to stop by the sad and miserable looking bears.
I love the new exhibits and open spaces. However, the zoo could use a tram for those long distances. Those hills are tough on people with physical limitations.
Love the fruit bats.
Very nice zoo in an equally nice park, great for children and adults. The zoo is working hard to be ready for the future, with numerous new exhibits being completed in the past several years and more following from now to 2020. Affordable and good for a couple of hours with or without children. Also has. A good amount of inside locations for those inevitable rainy days.
I've always been a kid at heart when visiting the Zoo. It's always been something I enjoy doing no matter the location or scale of the Zoo. This one is large in scale, with many different "sections."
Now that I have a little man myself, we've taken him a couple of times and its even more enjoyable. I do wish that there'd be more areas to visit when it is rainy and cold. A lot of the sections have no cover. I realize it's be difficult to cover all of the areas, but maybe having a complete section of the Zoo that had cover would work better. Or have a section to drive through like some other zoos?
It's a place to visit of your in the Portland area. The Zoo lights at Christmas time is also a great experience for kids.
Best to pack your own food though, as the food can be pricey and not the best tasting or selection.
This is my all time favorite zoo! All of the enclosures have multiple viewing areas so you're almost guaranteed to see the animals. The enclosures are very large and it looks like the animals are all treated well.
They have a petting zoo, train ride ($4/ticket if I recall), carousel and they do feedings of the animals.
Everytime I'm in Portland my family and I stop here and that won't change next year as they are opening a rhino exhibit in 2020.
A whole bunch of exhibits are closed for improving habitats until 2020 (rhinos, polar bears, primates). The zoo train is being blocked from rejoining with the track in Washington park so it's a really short run still and a bunch of animals are in inadequate enclosures stressing.
