Our favorite things to do at the zoo is take our time, choose two or three animals to go see, spend as long as possible sitting or staying in the presence of the animals and just watch their behavior. When the kids lose interest and start running around we move on.
It important to mention that there are some great spots for the kids to be kids at the zoo.
1. The sand pit under the bridge. the sandpit is complete with bulldozers dump trucks sand toys shovels all kinds of things and a nice place for the parents to sit all under the bridge right next to the otter and seal habitat.
2. The insect house.during the winter of this has the benefit of being warm and dry having a place where the kids can crawl through a log peek through the holes and log there also puppets of mosquitoes and dragonflies, frogs, and all kinds of other animals. Is plenty of room for the kids to run around and little areas where they can learn about amphibious animals and insects and also ways to behave or change behavior to be kinder to animals and their habitats.
3. really close to the inside the house there is an outdoor area with lots of wood. Aloft crawl onto stumps to hop from a couple of areas where kids can build with blocks of wood a little structure to hide in and of course wood chips on the ground.
4. The animal statues playground. I think there's a rhinoceros, a camel, a bear, a ram. They're all made out of stone or concrete or something along those lines and they're fun for the kids to climb.
5. In the wild cats lion cheetah painted dog area there are 3 special areas that I can think of off the top of my head. The bronze lions and their cubs those are fun to climb on. The Jeep facing the cheetah habitat is really fun for the kids to climb up on and pretend to drive. And finally the Mongoose bubble where the kids can crawl through a tunnel pop up in a little bubble where the Mongoose can climb nearby and then they can get down through the tunnel and come outside back into the room where their parents are waiting for them.
6. There's a course the carousel we've never gone on it but I'm sure it's really fun.
