One of my favorite hotels to stay at. Usually a reasonable price for a workin man. Great outdoor pool and huge hot tub. Then a lap pool and hot tubs down in the basement. I haven t tried the spa yet. The restaurant is solid but pricey. Make sure you bring your crucifix and holy water. Don t want them ghost buggin ya.

Wish they had more parking, especially when multiple events are booked on the same day. Staff is always great, rooms are nice, and the ballroom and bar area are nice additions. Spa is recently updated as well. Do the ghost tour! The guy who does that tour rocks.

My friends and I visited a few months ago. We are young adults. This is important to keep in mind. Our room was scheduled to be ready at 2 pm. We arrived at 3 pm. The room wasn't ready. Ok fine, whatever. We waited a bit. By a bit, I mean FIVE HOURS LATER- that's right, at 8 pm, the room was finally ready. But it wasn't even the room we paid for. The reason I say we were younger is because the staff probably thought they could take advantage of us due to our inexperience. They did. Which leaves me here. You may accommodate older couples well, but the younger people are what will bring in your business in the future. If you keep this up, you won't last forever.

I was at The Elms for a professional event. I wasn't an overnight guest. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was served. Food was tasty and service was good. Food service staff was attentive. The AC unit in the meeting space was loud which made it hard to hear our speakers sometimes. After the event I got the ultimate pedicure at the spa in the hotel. It was the best. I highly recommend taking some time for self care at The Elms Spa. The Grotto was very relaxing and I enjoyed the exfoliation bar. I truly enjoyed my time at The Elms. I'm looking forward to my next visit at The Elms.

We had a few issues with our stay, but one of the managers, Austin, was really helpful in addressing our concerns. We normally have a great experience here so I am chalking this one up to a fluke

I had a wonderful time at The Elms. The room was clean, service was exceptional, and the Ghost Tour very informative. I'd recommend a stay as long as you don't mind a possible bump in the night.

This is my go to spot for rest and relaxation. Ive been going to The Elms for almost 25 yrs. They've had a few renovations best the last one about 5-6 yrs ago was the best. The rooms are beautifully decorated with modern updated features. The hotel itself is a historic landmark. The Spa is were the magic begins. They have a true Italian Grotto with a giant mineral; bath hot tub/pool. Steam sauna, dry heat sauna, steam shower, cold shower great lounge chairs to relax on and they also offer 3 types of scrubs and ice cold wash clothes scented with peppermint. I highly recommend the Royal level , it comes with its own 2 hr, happy hour with appetizers and a Private concierge/bartender.

The Elms is a throwback to the past with a modern flare. It is a small midwest town. The town is apparently under going some sewer or water line up grades as navigating the streets were a bit of a challenge. I plan to return.

The Elms Hotel and Spa is very nice. Everyone who works here is polite. It's not busy during the weekdays. The spa is amazing and the dining room has elegant food. It's in a nice quiet area and has unique shops and restaurants nearby. I would come here over and over again!

The Elms is a great getaway for couples. My wife and I usually frequent this place for our anniversary. Our stay is usually around Thanksgiving, so it's not super busy. We really enjoy a day in the Grotto and this is main thing that keeps us coming back. There is an outdoor hot tub open rear around and a fire pit. Inside there is a nice lap pool and hot tub as well. The rooms are comfortable.

I attended an event at The Elms Hotel & Spa. The ballroom was a good size for our smaller group of 75 people or so to have dinner, silent auction tables, and other activities. The food was quite good for a hotel buffet and the staff was courteous. The room itself was outdated and I could tell it has been well used. A set of chandeliers even flickered on and off during our event. Although, I belive there is a ghost tour in the hotel, so I you can't fix it, feature it.

We love this place. Love the style and history the most. Try to come up regularly from KC when the price is right to enjoy the ambiance, the indoor pool and the relaxation. Cute town with an interesting history. Support the town while you re there.

The entire place is beautiful and charming, but details leave a lot to be desired. The Grotto is lovely, but the spa employs estheticians for massage therapists. They incorrectly booked 2 different massages for us. Our room service for breakfast never came and for dinner, it took an hour. Plus side is that they comped all the mistakes, aside from the major no-no of who they have as massage therapists. (Not even certain that is legal, though I tried to look into it.) The fireplace in the lounge was a great place to relax, read, and chat with a few guests. Despite the problems, I'll probably head back. It is oddly charming.

Lovely hotel and nice people. If you are able bodied this review isn't for you. However, as someone in a wheelchair, it's a very frustrating place to be in. Many of the hotel facilities, such as their indoor pool are completely unreachable if you can't go down or up a flight of stairs. Their outdoor pool is only reachable by going down an extremely steep, very narrow ramp, which is no problem until you try to go back up it and discover that it is WAY steeper than an ADA ramp and there are no hand rails. The doors to the rooms are too narrow for any but the smallest chairs. No power chair would be able to get in. Their handicapped entrance to the hotel, is a massive, wooden door that can't be opened by a push button. I have the upper body strength to open this, but many of my friends in wheelchairs won't. They have made no effort what-so-ever to make this a handicapped friendly facility, despite I hear recently renovating the place. So...if you are in a wheelchair like me, maybe consider staying in Kansas City, the area isn't so pretty and the hotel likely won't be as historic, but hey, at least you'll be able to get to the pool.

Amazing stay at the Elms. The spa at the Elms is one of the best in the Midwest. The pools, steam baths and saunas were luxurious and the therapeutic massage service was top notch. Also memorable was the relaxing outdoor pool and bar service, a perfect way to spend a hot Missouri summer Saturday.

Went to a wedding ceremony and reception. Overall an awesome experience. The AC went out but the owners were working on it immediately and had it back up in no time. Amenities were wonderful.

The room was dirty and smelled of mold and mildew. We were not given the room rate we were told on the phone. I gave them a $450 gift certificate that was a gift from my children. When I checked out I settled up in cash and after I left they added a spa charge to A work credit card that was only used to hold the reservation in the first place. I didn t know there was a problem until a week afterwards after several emails they gave me 20% off the room rate. I would refer the hotel as long as you stayed on the floor that had been remodeled the food was really good

I planned a night two months ago for my daughters birthday where we purchased our room through Groupon, upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a new room.. we were pleased with that until we got to room and saw it was a one bed room.. there was not enough room where I had to sleep on a very uncomfortable floor.. when talking with someone at the desk, his explanation was they must of over booked and said well at least you got a room not the explanation I was looking for.. I would say we came here because our first stay was wonderful but after this we won t be back!!!

The room was adequate but overpriced, and it smelled a bit musty. The staff was courteous and the service was good. The grotto and spa was very nice, however there was some confusion about which spa services were not included in the hotel package. Be careful to get specifics about the services you want and will pay for beyond those in the package. We failed to do so, and wound up with sticker shock from additional charges.

Amazing place! Beautiful grounds, refreshing outdoor pool and hot tub, exceptional service. Small room that was quaint and comfortable. The bed was to die for. And the SPA was worth every cent!

The stay was great! The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because I was charged twice at the spa, but only got one receipt. It was rectified (when I asked about the double charge) but other than that snafu, was awesome! My sister in law and I love coming here!

My Boyfriend and I had heard about the Elms we were anxious to stay there and we were very pleased. The concierge was great. He was funny and very helpful. We ate in the bar area the restaurant was hosting a wedding. We had a fantastic dinner and a few drinks , we didn't finish dinner in time for the Ghost Tour so we hope to go next time. The room was nice wonderful king size bed. Very pleasant stay can't wait to go back.

Wonderful old world feeling hotel and resort spa located near a large metropolitan. The 15-20 minute drive north to the bedroom community of Excelsior Springs is worth worth the time spent on the road to receive a complete positive attitude change. The Elms Hotel & Spa conjures up feelings of nostalgia, romance, excitement, relaxation and overall sense of peace & and contentment. I stayed there there before Thanksgiving 2018. Groupon offered a great deal that included a daily $40 resort voucher to use on food or spa services. The photos are of that stay. l stayed again for 5 days in June 2019, and booked a deluxe King Suite which had a wet bar and it's own separate living room. I forgot to take photos of course!

Outdoor pool is absurdly cold all the time. I ve been here multiple times during the summer and the pool is so cold every time no one ever gets in, not even kids! It s so sad to see the kids faces when they are all ready to swim and then have to sit on the side with only their feet in. It s gets into the 100s here so they must have a chiller attached to the pool to keep it so cold.

Otherwise a fantastic local getaway with decent rooms, a great spa and beautiful, extensive grounds. Just don t come here to swim.

I don't want to make this review completely navigate because i think the over all hotel was good but there where a few thing that where wrong.

Hotel was clean, staff was good, beds where decent, in door pool was nice,

Door to the bath room didn't latch, light in the shower was burnt out, shower had left over hair in it from the past guest.

I used my debit card to secure the room so they held the room charge and a 25.00 charge for incidentals which I fine with and i think is a normal process BUT a few days later i found out that they adjust the incorrect pre-auth, so instead of finalizing the room charge, they adjusted and finalized the 25.00 so what happen in my checking account is they finalized an amount 200+ while the pre-auth of the room was still there which caused my account to go negative very poor accounting

We came this week for my birthday trip and our room that we stayed in had a mattress that really needed to be replaced. We both woke up on our first morning with back pain. When I went down to the front desk to see if perhaps we could change to a different room I was informed that there were no more rooms of our kind open. Instead they upgraded us to a suite! Ross was so kind, understanding, and accommodating!
I couldn't have asked for a better staff or hotel stay for my 30th Birthday! The restaurant was delicious and the wait staff was so friendly. The spa was relaxing and their staff down there was wonderful.
I really appreciated how the hotel and spa has handled this pandemic and all of the social distancing measure that they have in place and enforce. I felt so comfortable and safe during my stay here that I would recommend it to anyone looking for a trip away from home during these crazy times!

I've not stayed here, but on nice days I ride from Kansas City. The remodel gave needed updates, but left the old world charm.

A history, rich in famous and infamous characters, from presidents to gangsters. Make sure you ask the very friendly staff to share the colorful history.

I've had breakfast, brunch and lunch here many times. Menu items change and every one I've had is delicious. The atmosphere is inviting. Big fireplace , intimate bar and an upper level sitting area to suit your mood.

Classic pool and gardens are well maintained. Take time to walk around and enjoy.

Congratulations and thanks to owners and management.

The people here are so friendly. Love the history and architecture. Didn't partake in the spa this time, but will be coming back to experience it for sure. They also have a ghost tour.

Stayed in a comfortable bed, a cute hotel overall with cool features. Loved the pool and hot tub, and the steaks at the restaurant were cooked perfectly. I recommend the fried tomatoes appetizer. Got a massage at the spa, it was very nice! Customer service was A+!

I will not be staying here again. If you re looking for a luxurious hotel and a peaceful weekend getaway, this isn t it. I can t believe they charge what they do for the kind of rooms they have. When we arrived, we did not get any robes in our room like the website states. Whoever does their website does a nice job at making this place seem high class. It s misleading. The king room we booked was extremely small and the bathroom was closet sized. It looks way different online. We had hoped to spend the weekend at the pool and quickly changed our plans. It was not only busy, but locals kept showing up who weren t paying to stay at the hotel which would be fine, but they were drunk. It was not a peaceful place at all. Service at the restaurant was terrible, too. I was really looking forward to a weekend getaway here and was so disappointed. I will say if you re going to just use the spa, that part is worth it!! I had a very good experience at the spa. The grotto is amazing and so are all the other amenities. But that s the only nice thing I ll say about The Elms.

Historic hotel in quaint Excelsior Springs. Gorgeous spa facilities and pool, comfortable bedding. In hotel restaurant food and beverage were a little pricey but it's to be expected. Ghost tours given nightly were fun and educational!

Very charming property. Incredibly warm and wonderful staff. Beds are subpar at best however, very old and extremely uncomfortable. Tried to make a reservation to the spa more than once and no one ever called me back.

Loved this quaint hotel. Service was exceptional and everything was reasonably priced. Since this is an older building, things are smaller than normal including elevators and hotel room, but the charm makes up for it. Only complaint is that there wasn't s fridge in the room. The spa was the best part of the hotel and strongly recommend. With services, you get access to their free grotto services including hot tub, saunas, steam shower and scrub bar.

The service was amazing. The staff was always courteous and and try to make sure we got everything we requested. Be tailored all of our spa services to our needs. They went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The entire venue was beautiful. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Make sure you check out the grotto, the lap pool, and the outdoor hot tub.

Nicely remodeled. But AWEFUL service. We got married there, but will never go back now.

Sold us a spa package, but no spa times were available. Left 6 messages trying to find out what to do, they never received a single call back (left 2 with Kevin the GM and still no return calls).

Went to dinner. They were out of 1 of the 4 entrees, they were out of cabernet, and they were out of 1 of the 3 desserts. Of course they never bothered to tell us this up front, but 15 minutes after we ordered each. Took us 2 1/2 hours to eat dinner. Didn't offer us other wine, or any discount. Only giggles and "oh well, what do you do".

Next morning, the breakfast buffet was set up, but they didn't bother putting out the food until 10:30 or so. And it was breakfast buffet, not a brunch. We didn't want to wait, so we tried to take a seat and order off menu. Only 3 tables were being served. But then we were then told it would be at least an hour before they could get us our omelet. They said room service orders we very busy and those took priority over diners. We went ahead and packed up, went through McDonalds on the way home.

Oh, and the couple we went with had ordered room service for breakfast. Guess what, it never came. After 2 hours of waiting they decided to pack up and leave also. When they checked out the front desk asked them "how the stay" was. He told them AWEFUL. They only comment was, "hopefully you enjoy yourself more next time".

Another call into the manager, still no return call.......

I was excited to go to this historic hotel. However, that excitement was short lived. It was smelly, dirty and very overpriced. The carpet throughout the hotel looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Cobwebs in the hallways and rooms. Weird orange goo where the shower met the floor. I had dinner at the restaurant, but again, was very disappointed. I had the Chicken Marsala dish for $26. I seriously don't know what they did to the chicken but it was rubbery and dry. Hung out at the pool and discovered a used band-aid on the floor. All I can say is "Ewww!"
