Service was great. Staff was so nice. Spa was fantastic. Pool service great. Pet friendly. A historic building so not all the glitz and shine of newer places but I love nostalgia. Yes, one smaller elevator but only five stories. We'll definitely be back.

Dinner at 88 was great. Rooms are desperately in need of good deep cleaning. The carpet in the room was very very dirty. So many stains. Didn t feel like I could be barefoot at all. Had 3 bugs during the one night stay. Had a coffee maker but they didn t provide any cream or sugar. Probably won t stay here anymore. And it has been a favorite place for us. But for over $250 a night it should be better

Fun historic hotel. We stumbled on this spot when doing dinner at Van Till Winery. Haunted tour is fun and spooky. Spa is nice to do once. Not much to do around town, but you'll find most everything in the hotel. Cozy main bar and amazing little tavern only open on weekends. Good for any season.

The Elms is a beautiful old hotel that has great character. Take a stroll around the grounds, enjoy the pool and the indoor lap pool, catch drinks in a wonderful atmosphere. Make sure you try one of Calvin's old fashioned's... they're amazing.

We were the guests of a wedding, so we cant review the spa portion of the hotel. The room was disappointing. I would not describe it as luxury, maybe average. The room desk had coffee grounds on it, the bathroom shower was tiny and faucet was backwards, the bathroom door had a giant glazed window so it lit the whole room if someone used the bathroom at night, and the crib was squeaky and did not have any crib sheets. The basement lap pool was nice. We stayed on the third floor, the party was on the first floor, and we went to bed at 11 pm and could hear the music from the party downstairs through our floor.

The Elms is a wonderful place to stay. The building has history and charm. The employees here are great! Accommodations are above exceptional. The rooms are quiet and very clean. The way the rooms are furnished and set up just adds to the charm. There's even a 'Ghost Tour' to go with the history of this beautiful building. That with all of the modern accommodations you could need, the fine dining, and beautiful scenery and surroundings, makes The Elms a place I would definitely stay in again and highly recommend.

The first thing I thought walking in is this hotel is an old beauty. They tied in the history and remodeled beautifully. The room was fantastic. The bed was comfortable. The spa, of course, wasy favorite. We did the baths, massages, manicures, and went to the gratto. I loved the whole experience

The Elms was highly recommended by co-workers and friends. With all of the recommendations, we decided it would be a great weekend getaway. Aside from the great recommendations of the hotel itself, the spa was the most praised. Although our trip was great, I couldn't help but feel disappointed with my spa experience. The Grotto was great and I am glad that I had the chance to experience it but I wish I could say the same for my massage. The massage was not worth what I paid for. Throughout the whole massage you could hear people walking and talking in the hallway but it sounded like they were in the room with you. We decided to have dinner at the restaurant for our last night there. The food was great but we were disappointed about our wait time. One of the waiters dropped another tables order and gave them our food which resulted with us having to wait an hour and a half, almost two hours, for our food. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful and the staff were very kind and helpful.

The Rooms are NOTHING like they described- it smells like it s a 100 year old village, carpet was extremely filthy, torn & full of stains. The bathroom was disgusting & very dirty.
The staff was extremely UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
the drinks at the bar were awful, the wine had been opened for over a week.
EXTREMELY OVERPRICED!!!!
Do not waste one dime here & you cannot get an Uber or any sort of transportation to & from.
VERY UPSETTING!!!!

Went for a bachelorette party in early 2017.
Front desk check in was cold. Not temperature but the ladies at the desk were not that welcoming, seemed unhappy that we had a 20% off coupon (doubt they're on commission). They seemed put-out when we asked if they had a toothbrush and a deodorant as a couple girls forgot stuff. They sighed and only had the deo. Check out was cold, yet again. Nothing like "hope you enjoyed your stay", or "thanks for staying with us". Was more of a "K sign here. Thanks bye"

The room was okay. Nothing too over-the-top nice about it. Seemed clean, bathroom seemed spotless (no mold or water marks/damage). Bedding was okay, throw had marks on it. We had a room that had 2 (full) beds, made for tight quarters. Bathroom was really nice though.

Restaurant had overpriced food for the quality. Many girls thought so. Drinks were WAY overpriced. $10 for a lemon drop that was essentially the same amount of liquor as a shot contains. Also bartender doesn't know drinks that are not on the menu. We ordered a common mixed drink and he made it wrong and they didn't want to take it back.
Gratuity included on everything, so watch for that.

Spa was okay. The robes were nice, the sandals need more sizes, towels were soft. The grotto was not bad, they need to make their saunas less noisy though. They're not relaxing at ALL for that reason. The steam ones were especially noisy. I've been to a 24 hr fitness that was barely audible...and this one will scare you out of your seat the 1st time. The grotto was a cool area. I feel like they overbooked because a lot of us had to share seats. Mold by the hot tub area pillar. Also, you better be there 5 minutes EARLY or else they'll tell you "oh you're 5 minutes into your service already"...or they'll charge you a late fee without telling you. They stressed our bride out immediately saying they're taking 5 minutes off their session with her and charging her $ for it. She was 5 minutes early for her appointment... So confusing. Whole situation was the least relaxing thing I've done.

The salon is a joke. This is where I drew the line. I can be forgiving, especially since it's a very old structure/hotel. I get that...historic feeling. But the salon...oh boy. I got a pedicure. She was nice enough to accept my direction in regards to a sensitive area, and the scrub they use was phenomenal. The lotion was great too. But the pedicure...I got a French Tip regular level (not ultimate spa) pedicure. My husband could've done better. She literally just put a base coat on, did a TERRIBLE, uneven white line on the tops of my toes and then top coat. No pinkish layer, no evening up the white lines, they're scraggly looking. And they chipped within 1 day. Keep in mind, I wore flip flops and didn't scrape them or anything.
Where it got me was that it costs $60...for something my 3.5 year old niece could've done. The other girls who got pedicures felt the same way. They got just a regular polish, with no base coat. One girl didn't even get the scrub/calf rub that us other girls got. We were having typical girl talk about specific things and each of the 3 salon employees kept interrupting our conversations to tell their own stories. My chair didn't work also. It reclined but the tub didn't have working jets and my massage stopped every 2 min. Will come back and attach pictures.

Bottom line -- I'm surprised The Elms was this low of quality. I had heard only good things about The Elms. It's a cool looking, historic hotel - that's about it. But ENTIRELY too overpriced for what it is. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't go again, even if spa services were free.

Great stay. In town for work with a company. The rooms are very large. The beds are all memory foam. The only issue I had was the heat vent was very loud while running. Other then that amazing stay. Breakfast is a decent price and the coffee is good.

I've been visiting this hotel for over 25yrs. The upgrades have been great but this last upgrade took The Elms up to another level. The rooms are very comfortable and contemporary. Their restaurant is very classy and the foods are locally sourced. They have their own garden too. Now, The Spa. It is amazing, worthy of 5 stars. It called The Grotto and it does look like an Italian Grotto. A huge mineral water hot tub is the focus along with a dry heat sauna, wet sauna, cold shower, steam showers big comfortable lounge chairs. They even offer 3 types of scrubs, a yogurt, a salt and a suger and wash clothes soaking in peppermint ice water. The Royal level is the best place to stay. It's the top floor with its own concierge and an all inclusive happy hour with appetizers from 5-7.

The spa was unbelievably nice but the hotel was less cared for/ neglected. There were stains, dust, and ripped linens. Even the packages of cotton balls & coffee accessories are opened and partially used. The floor of the shower was shi dirty I didn't use it. I was shocked considering the price.

Beautiful rooms, excellent and very friendly staff. Went there for a wedding and the dinner left a lot to be desired. Grounds were well kept and lots of places to explore. Not much to do in the town of Excelsior Springs but short drive to downtown KC.

I've played for several weddings here. All of the staff I've come into contact with have been incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. The venue is beautiful, whether your event is indoor or outdoor.

This was an amazing place to go and relax fir two days. Staff was incredible and that doesnt even begin to describe the stay we haves had. Everything was perfect down to the floor's we walked on. This is truly a luxurious hotel. The Grotto was the most amazing experience I've had, it was beyond relaxing. The quiet room, there was a small nap, it was so peaceful. The lap pool was amazing. The food is fantastic, there are so many good things to say about this Historic Hitel. The ghost and historic tour was great. This is well worth every penny spent. Thank you guys so much. We will be back.

Booked an 80-minute Swedish couples massage for my husband and I for Christmas. I had previously been to the spa and had a wonderful experience, however, this visit was very disappointing. After about the first 5 minutes I honestly wanted to ask the lady to just let me lay there the rest of the time because I don't think she had ever given a massage. My husband was also highly dissatisfied with his massage. It was very sad to pay almost $400 for a terrible experience. We had already booked another couples massage for the following day and did not want to pay the cancellation fee so we kept the appointment and it was a little better than the previous day, still not worth the $$$. We also go charged many unknown fees for the stay. For example, an accommodation fee of over $100 and a destination fee. When I called to ask about these charges I was informed "they are just added due to the hotel brand".

On a positive note, the restaurant was wonderful and deserves 5 stars!

The hotel is lovely and on great shape. Gorgeous rooms. The spa was amazing, and the food was great. People were very nice but service was slow at times. They also had some issue with our room booking and our spa order, which is why I rated the hotel down to 4 stars.

If you like to pay high prices for mediocre, at best rooms, then this is the place. The carpet in room 429 is disgusting. This place needs work. It's not worth the money we paid. A/C must be old because it is super loud when it kicks in. Not worth the drive.

The stay was a lot of fun, the staff were all very friendly and accomidating. Love that they are close to Wabash BBQ for dinner. The spa was a little expensive and the food in the cafe was a little expensive. But overall awesome experience.

Neat place, lots of history. Quiet and kind if tucked back. We had a regular room l, it was smaller then modern hotel rooms but there are bigger rooms available. Has a speakeasy style bar, a reasturant and if course the spa. We wanted to do the ghost tour but got busy and forget. Will be back again in the future.

My fiance booked us a room for my Birthday as a surprise. The hotel was very pretty and I love history so the hotel itself was pretty great. However, the cost of the room is very expensive for what you get in the room. The bed was very uncomfortable!!! The pillows were like bricks. The heat is so loud that you can't hear the tv and it woke me up everytime it kicked on. The bathroom was so tiny. Nothing romantic about the room for a place that seems to try and attract couples for getaways. We had a king suite which I am thankful for because sitting in the livingroo. Area it was so loud in the hallway. We could hear everything and people were so noisy. Our room was by the elevator and stairs and people would stomp and you could hear the beeping of the elevator. We made a reservation for the restaurant and went down to eat. It was super good food!! We loved it. My carrots were undercooked but everything was delicious. The Spa was super expensive so we passed on that. We had to call and ask for robes so we weren't walking around the hotel half naked in swim wear. The guy on the phone was super rude. He said he will see if they have any available but they don't have them in the rooms because they don't have enough for everyone. We waited 45 minutes for robes but the older lady that brought them was super nice. We headed down to the outdoor hot tub which filled with teenage girls and that stole the romance out of our evening. We then went back to our room after a stop at the fire put they out outside and got dressed and went down to the tavern. We ordered drinks and decided quickly to leave after a belligerent and highly intoxicated man tried picking a fight with the bar tender and touched me in front of my fiance while I was sitting at the bar. We quickly paid and left. Which was disappointing becausew I wanted fries that they wouldn't deliver to my room. The customer service was very poor but we noticed that people that were known there were treated very well. Staff was so rude except a younger gal with super curl hair that checked us in. Emmy our server for dinner at the 88 was very sweet and she was also our server for breakfast. She had the same braid except messier. How do you charge so much for dinner when you have such an unprofessional Staff? Breakfast was yummy though. Our car guy was good. We won't be coming back. Too pricey for rooms especially if you don't plan on using the spa. Get your customer service stuff together.

Great place for a weekend get away. Beautiful hotel and grounds. Enjoyed the staff at the restaurant, tavern, spa, and front desk. There was an odd odor with the room we were going to stay in, so we were down another room. The woman at the front desk took great care of us when though she had only been at the hotel for 3 weeks... would have never known that. She did an excellent job of getting us a proper room for the weekend. We will be back to the Elms for a relaxing weekend in the future.

Not what you expect when you pay $300 for a room. Booked the anniversary package, got there at 4pm (check in time) room wasn't ready. Waited 45 minutes, after lots of asking them, the room was finally ready. Received a $50 comp for dinner. Almost missed our dinner reservation trying to get ready in 20 minutes. Get into the room ( shocked!) Tiny little room, Champaign ice melted, strawberries were good at least. Tiny shower, no tub and the shower was Gross! Ate dinner, decent but no one there on a Saturday night was dull. Went to go to the pool, tiny and gross! And dogs Everywhere running around halls and outside. Get back go our room and all night long we hear a dog barking, and water running. Then a 730 am phone call to wake us up that no one knows where it came from. Not one person said happy anniversary either, not what you expect from a small town 4 star hotel. Save yourself the money book with argosy, gorgeous rooms and a totally different experience.

Our stay at the Elms hotel was great, we took the kiddos for a spring break getaway, close to home. The room was clean and perfect for our family. The service was great, no complaints. We especially enjoyed the indoor lap pool. We'll be back next year.

What The Elms lacks in modernity and ambiance it also misses the mark on amenities and the simplest of hospitality basics. Given the opportunity for a moment of class The Elms missed every chance.

I had high hopes but low expectations for The Elms, I should have set those expectations even lower. I will not return.

One example: why wouldn't you have bathrobes in the hotel rooms of a SPA?!? I'll never know. But when requested they came with a ridiculous price tag. Not to mention when we went to the spa the robes were in rough shape.

There is no good food nearby, including the restaurant on-site. The entire resort is must and old. The carpets are stained and in need replacing. The coffee shop is wholly insufficient. The spa staff is inexperienced in hospitality though they seem to be adequate in their specialties.

The Elms is a beautiful building. The spa and grotto are very comfortable and a great way to spend a day. The rooms are very accommodating and the bed was comfortable. Take time to come to Excelsior Springs and stay in this amazing hotel!

No vending machines, food is outrageously high, dirty carpets, 5 dollars for a bottle or water, no complimentary breakfast. Room smells musty heat don't work in room. Had to pay 5 dollars for cup of coffee. Ridiculous.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is in walking distance of a couple of great restaurants, and a few miles up the road from a nice winery. The room was fine and the spa was great. Nice little coffee shop attached as well.

Very classy and well kept, and the ambiance of the whole place is fantastic. No fridge in the room I had and services (like breakfast) starting later make it difficult to stay for an extended period or for business. Otherwise, the staff was kind and agreeable.

Stayed here for a wedding. Called ahead to see about early check in, was told we could, showed up when we were told to, to get ready for the wedding, and no rooms were available. Our room was not ready until about 20 minutes before the wedding started. Room was ok, just expected better service for the price paid for the room.
