Amazing place to stay outside of kansas city.

Great spa and pool area.
Amazing place to stay outside of kansas city.
Great spa and pool area.
This was OK for an anniversary weekend. Expensive for the service provided, however. We would give the bed a D (too soft and the fitted sheets were too small and kept coming off the mattress). My husband hoped to find a soda late at night and there was nothing. No vending and the front desk couldn't help either.
Paid over $1500 for the weekend and was moved 3 times because of the cockroach infestation. We left early. Absolutely disgusting. First and last time for sure!
A beautiful place to stay! The bed is super comfortable! The pool is very nice! Going to the spa for a massage in the morning. Can't wait!
The Elms is so enchanting and elegant with such a rich history that submerses you into another time. The spa is impeccable with a wonderful staff that caters to your every need. My wife and I had a delightful visit and we plan to treat ourselves more often.
First time here and let me tell you it was sooo relaxing! I will come back!!!
Cool place with turn of the century charm. Nice little coffee shop, cafe, paranormal tours. Very unique place. Would be 5 stars but carpet in room is a little dated. Overall a unique stay.
Wonderful hotel & spa with a very classy and upscale look. The Elms has alot of history behind it and offers very cool ghost tours starting at 9pm hosted by Jay.
I love the grotto room! The massage was okay, better the last time.
Very friendly staff.
Very nice facility.
When I found out it was haunted ...I slept with the lights on. Don't know how or if it helped any.
Wonderful experience. Delighful and helpf staff. Everyone should stay here at least once a year.
Very beautiful place to stay with the best spa in the midwest
Ive been staying at the Elms for 20 years. They've renovated it since, most comfortable bed ive ever slept in, but sad they've torn out all but one hot tub. Coolest lap pool I've ever been in. Presidents have stayed here. Lots of history at this place.
We stayed for two nights with a Groupon. I didn't really know what to expect, but we had a wonderful time. We have a family of six with kids ranging from two to nine years old. At first we were a bit worried thinking it was just a romantic stay hotel when we noticed all the couples. Then we started seeing more families with young kids. This hotel is accommodating for all.
The outdoor pool and hot tub were fantastic. It was a really neat atmosphere with music and lights when it gets dark. The lap pool in the basement was unlike anything I have ever seen. Our kids loved this area. It was often just our family using it which was crazy to us as it is so neat. Think of a big lazy river with neat stone in the middle.
The Groupon came with $40 of dining credit for each night. We had $80 to use. We used a little at the Cafe on cinnamon rolls and then saved the rest for breakfast at the 88. The food was about as good as I have had for breakfast. The price was fair as well. My omelette, fried potatoes, and toast were all great for $12. The kids had pancakes that were enormous. I would highly recommend eating here.
Our final takeaway was with how nice the staff was at the Elms. They seemed like they all really cared about the place and the customers. We felt right at home with the friendliness of the staff and with the people we talked to staying at the hotel.
One complaint I have seen on other reviews is with the carpet in the rooms. Our carpet was very rough looking with stains all over, but we weren't too bothered by this. If a renovation is in store for the carpet in this hotel, then I wouldn't be able to find much wrong with it.
Great staff. Awesome rooms with a lot of history. Tons of things to do on the hotel grounds and tons of cook stuff with in walking distance. Food from the 88 was great, bartender at the Lounge was awesome. Ghost tour gave a lot of great history and some great ghost stories. Just couldn't of had a better time.
Great staff. Hotel loaded with history. Good food good spa good room.
Thank you for the great visit. The food was good, the rooms were very clean, and I loved the ghost tour (special thanks to Jay for that and also the shuttle to the airport. You were great!) The grounds were very pretty as well and super clean. A+ would stay again.
This spa is amazing! I've been a number of times and always have a wonderful experience. But at my recent visit I received the essentials light touch massage!
It was beautiful elegant and I can't wait to go back
The outdoor pool and hot tub stays open until midnight. The hotel and grounds are beautiful.
This is a delightful place to get away for the weekend. There s lots to do at the hotel and the restaurant there is surprisingly wonderful. They are very attentive to your needs and do an excellent job serving up Missouri hospitality. The hotel has a rich history, so it s fun to learn even more about it and see the place in person. They have some great pools and services in their spa. Definitely worth the trip.
Clean. Good staff! Restaurant was the only thing I didn't LOVE, but it was a Sunday night. I've stayed many places, this is the best amenities for the price I've experienced.
No parking, had to valet. When we checked out our car had clearly been gone thru...the glovebox was left open & some change had been taken.
Our room was clean but not as clean as it could have been...they missed some areas that could have used a little more cleaning.
I guess pets are allowed. Which how can you relax when there are barking dogs not being attended to when needed. We paid for one of the nicest rooms they have available. If they re going to allow pets, those guests should stay on the first floor.
Also room service didn t bring my bacon that was included & forgot my butter and syrup for my pancakes so by the time these were brought up my breakfast was a little cold.
Only good experience was the spa. The massage was superb.
Fabulous environment and decor in the hotel and the 88 dining room. No seafood but other delicious options to choose from. Beautiful presentation of salads and entrees. Delicate dark chocolate pastry was just heavenly. Excellent service, friendly and willing to go to extra effort to check if scallops or shrimp available even though not listed on menu. Wonderful experience.
Lovely atmosphere, great pool(s), plenty of pretty places to explore on the grounds. Beautiful rooms! Kind staff.
Restaurant was overrated.
Great place for any event! Wedding or just a place to relax with some coffee from the cafe! Beautiful and rustic!
We have stayed here a dozen times over the past year and a half and it's always a great stay. Chanelle at the front desk is always nice and pleasant and very accomedating, she makes the elms feel like a home away from home. The food at the 88 is amazing and reasonably priced. We drive about 4 hours every other month just to stay at the elms because it is well worth it.
The Elms is a nice weekend getaway just a short drive from Kansas City. A historic hotel with unique feel that also happens to have a great spa. The rating reflects the service and experience... The front desk staff (during check-in/Check-out) not friendly (although an inquiry for pool towels was pleasant), seemed as if we were a burden when we asked if we could check in 10 minutes early ( preference seemed to be given for those that were staying with the 2 weddings that seemed to be taking place this particular weekend). Check-out was about the same, didn't ask if we had a pleasant stay, and seemed as if we were an inconvenience. I would highly recommend calling ahead to see if there are weddings scheduled during your planned stay. If so I would steer clear of those dates or at least request NOT to be on the first floor. It is impossible to get to your room without walking through the wedding buffet/bar area through a very narrow hall. The room itself was nice with a very comfortable bed as well as being quite spacious. It was nearly impossible to sleep with the amount of drunk wedding patrons staying on the first floor, coming and going all hours of the night/morning ( 1-4am) yelling, running, slamming against walls/doors mistakenly trying to get into rooms that weren't theirs. With all that being said I would still give this place a try as it had the potential to be a great weekend away. We however, just did not have that experience.
The spa and grotto are amazing. Very friendly staff. Such an amazing experience.
The elms is a great historic hotel. The staff is very friendly
Overall pretty nice place. Staff isn't as attentive as they could be.
I would have given this place 4 stars if it weren't for the room. The staff was very accommodating and eager to please. The whole place was just wonderful and like taking a step back in time but with a modern twist. All the amenities were absolutely terrific.
The room was very small. I could be okay with that if it had a window I could look out of. It had two windows. One was behind a closet. The other was a small window high off the ground that I couldn't look out of except to see up. To get to it, I had to move the desk into the walkway. And the curtains were set so you could only pull them to one side which blocked a great bit of it and the side you had more access to you would completely have to move the furniture. Having a window is important to me. I have never asked to move rooms but I nearly did when I saw it didn't really have a window but I was very tired when I arrived.
Other than that, everything was excellent. I would go again but I would make sure I had a room with a usable window.
Attending a wedding. Beautiful venue. Great food and service
It was really nice. The employees seemed to take pride in their work.
Very nice boutique hotel worth a visit if you are in the area
This is our second stay at the Elms. We were last here 2 to 3 years ago, and things seem to definitely have gone downhill since. Our room was beautiful (despite the questionably stained carpet, bring flip flops!). Our trip to the pool was... crowded. In fact, I think the entire hotel was there. The pool-side bartender was rude and unapologetically coughed the entire time she made our drinks. She then abruptly packed up at 4:47 pm and directed us inside to order any additional drinks. Our dinner at 88 was enjoyable, although the staff knew very little about allergen (gluten, specifically) information. We paid an additional $40 for a paranormal "tour" that ended up being complimentary that night. And tour isn't exactly the best word to describe it, since we merely listened to ghost stories in the lobby for an hour. We had to specifically ask to have our money refunded for the tour. But, rest of the night was good, and the hot tub was enjoyable to sit in in the evening. The next morning we spent 10 minutes waiting to be seated for breakfast at 88, as it appeared they only had two people working at the time. Our meal was slow to prepare and questionable in quality. The waitress would disappear for 15 minutes at a time (probably due to the aforementioned short staffing). When we checked out we had a $258 spa charge to our room that was not ours. It took about 30 minutes to remedy, as we were sent to multiple people to fix it. Slightly frustrating. Majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful, however. The hotel itself, and the grounds, are beautiful. I was just somewhat disappointed to see how much it has changed in only a few short years.
I was so ecstatic to spend the weekend here with my boyfriend. My mother has been in the icu with cancer the last month; finally she was healthy enough so that we could take a relaxing trip to the elms that I have heard from fellow doctors and nurses I work with that it was an amazing destination spa. Last week my house was broken into and my Jeep was stolen and we nearly were unable to make this trip. We came and joe the front desk employee is amazing and the only person who seems to truly care about humanity. While staying at the elms I dropped my purse and it was turned in missing 300 dollars. The front end coordinator at the time could care less about what happened on her property. We called the police filed a report and nothing was done to help recollect the money and the raumatizing experience I had at a place where I felt would be safe and relaxing. I would return; the hotel is beautiful as well as the spa. However; do not done at rstaraurant 88 and have Kyle has a server Bc he will provide you worse service than McDonald s. Also, keep in mind there are no cameras on site so keep all valuables locked up. I wish I could give this hotel a five star rating but I am so highly disappointed in how we were treated at dinner and how the stolen items was handled. Joe is by far the best hotel front desk coordinator I have ever met.

My first spa experience, and I loved it! I will be going back soon. This hotel is amazing! I can't say enough.
Ghost! Ghost! Ghost! Super relaxing atmosphere! Friendly staff, everything was top notch. Take the ghost tour, you ll get to hear the history, and see rooms you wouldn t normally have access to. The lap pool is amazing!
A great place for a relaxing stay. Staff and hotel are amazing!
Really nicely designed boutique hotel with great pools and on- site dining. We had a suite which was very comfortable. Clean hotel and pleasant staff. Will definitely return.
This place is special. The spa is amazing. I wish we had decided to go earlier and got a larger room. There were lumps in the mattress and would have preferred a fiam mattress. But the spas was just what I needed.
Our room was clean and in good repair, only stayed the night, and didnt use any of the many amenities.
Great historic hotel, in a nice area.
Great venue for a wedding! The DJ was awesome. Food wasn't replaced very quickly for buffet style, but the staff rocked. They were very good at removing plates and dishes from the tables in a timely manner. Probaly more of 4.5 stars!
Beautiful place, but services were not timely. Bad reviews from a bride that had her wedding there.
Historical hotel and spa - our Thanksgiving dinner and stay we're fantastic
The lunch was awesome. I think the tomato soup is one of the best I have ever had.
Beautiful old hotel. The spa is fantastic. If you dont like old buildings dont go there. I have seen reviews online where ppl complain about it being an old building and this and that. YEAH THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. Supposedly haunted.
My in-laws just recommended this place to my husband and I. They just got married and went here for their honeymoon. They said it was nothing short of amazing to stay here. They ended up eating a little late on their first day here and got to talking to one of the staff, since they were one of the only people left in the restaurant. They were talking about the history of the place when the young lady (Laura Ann) asked her manager if she can give them a tour of the place. She got approval and they really enjoyed it. They are major history people and really got to know more about the place than they could ever imagine. They also said anything they have to offer for the spa is certainly worth it. The staff is amazing and they said well worth the price. They were originally going to spend some time at the hotel and go into the town too, that didn't happen. They enjoyed the hotel so much that they didn't leave. Overall the only thing my father-in-law thought needed improvement on was a jacuzzi bath fit for two in the room. It only fit one, but very comfortably fit one. And they also said the resturant was reasonably priced. Buffet was $13 a person, about the same as a normal buffet and they said was better quality. Certainly my husband and I will try and plan a vacation here.
The elms is a classic and historic building with much charm
Always fun to visit for a night away. The staff are always helpful and welcoming.
I really wanted to love the place, with all the history. But, we had problem after problem. And still waiting on GM to get back with me, its been almost 2 week since we stayed. First room had bad sewer smell, they did up grade us to a new room. But toilet was broken and we had to put our hands in the back of the bowl to flush, for two days, they never fixed it. They over charged me for my rooms. I paid with debt card and they held double the amount , so if i paid with credit. Hot tub was broken and the cable TV was out!!! Sorry , i wouldn't stay here again even if they paid me.
For the second consecutive year we bought tickets to the Elms New Years Eve Event. This year, the hotel had a Blue Grass band in the main dining room not a dance band. We were not happy. We stayed in another room where a DJ played music we could dance to. Most people found their way to the same area for the evening. Not worth the $200 we spent on the event.
Location was nice and the room was nice the restaurant didn't offer much and it seemed over priced. The hotel needs to invest in getting a back up generator , the storm that came throught on Friday night 6/16/17 knocked out the power at about 11PM and the power stayed out until I checked out on 6/17/17 @ 8:45AM, when I check out they never offered a discount or a comp for being in the dark most of my stay and the breakfast never came the clerk just asked for and email address...
***INVEST IN BACK UP POWER,YOU NEVER NO WHEN YOU WILL NEED IT...
The pool was nice and staff was friendly. However, the room was not what was shown on the website. The carpet was stained and very old. The bathroom was old and not well maintained. We ate at the 88 restaurant and it was terrible. It took forever to get our food and it was not good. I was so disappointed.
The staff was great and loved the history behind it, the amenities very nice as well.
Beautiful ground. Beautiful building. This place is romantic and full of history.
The Elms make for a great weekend getaway. Make sure you check out all of the pools, including one of the oldest private indoor pools in the nation, located in the basement. I used a Groupon, which made it that much more enjoyable to relax and splurge a little bit. This gave us some credit to the restaurant, which was not amazing, but not bad either.
The spa was so nice and ghost tour. The room was a little small for the price....
Great place to relax! The grato area is wonderful. It has a hot tub, hot sauna, and steam room.
A beautiful historical hotel, pool, hot tub. A bit over priced. Good food
The spa was wonderful, but we were given a room that was neglected and dirty.
I love this place! I try to go at least one a year especially in the summer. The pool is great and I enjoy the cocktails. The lap pool is my favorite. It is so peaceful I could swim forever. Wanted to take my daughter on the ghost tour but there was a family emergency and it was cancelled. Oh well I will just have to take her back!
If you are looking for a 2 star hotel at a 4 star price, this is your place. I have never had to ask for extra towels just to cover the disgusting carpet but Have now. The restaurant was as good as any Western sizzler and the staff is overwhelmed. The spa was extremely overpriced but the highlight of the trip. If you come for the spa, don t stay the night. I m not a clean freak, but the rooms are simply gross. (This cannot be overstated). We spoke with other guests and everyone was in agreement that this place needs a good scrubbing.
This was probably nice at one time but not now.
My nephew got married here... It is a beautiful hotel.
AWESOME awesome rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation!!!!
Quiet, beautiful & a great place to take a time out from the city With the family or alone. Easy walking distance to multiple restaurants or shops. The rooms are beautiful & comfortable. Definitely have to stay on the top floor though, I love the sitting area. Staff are always pleasant & ready to help. we LOVE the outside sitting area near the pool.
Hotel is fantastic. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean. The spa is large and impressive. The ghost tour is very entertaining. We love the atmosphere.
Steve & Theresa Clark
Went for brunch on a Sunday. We got there right roind noon and they were closing up brunch. We were a little dissapointed but it is a beautiful, historic building.
Very good friends had wedding here accommodated well and allowed for finishing touches of the entire process. Historic beauty!
My wife and I went to The Elms for our honeymoon very recently, the experience was lack luster from the moment we entered our King Suite room. The room itself was not any nicer than something you would get at your closest Mariott. The bathroom looked like it was a Prison bathroom black and white floor tile, white concrete walls, with nothing but a toilet, stem sink (no counters) and a plastic shower. This is why they do not show any pictures of the bathrooms on the website.
We made our way to the hotel restaurant where the average food price is $25 but the service was not any better than Applebee's. I also felt ill afterward. That night we found out how thin the walls were as I could here the people in the room next to us use the bathroom in detail. To top it off while in the elevator my wife and I ran into another guest who had to move rooms because after checking in, him and his girlfriend found a whole entire bee hive behind the curtains....
Also I had my account number stolen on my credit card today... a card I use only for Gas... I did leave my wallet unattended in the room one time while at the pool... seeing as how the staff couldnt discover an active bee hive in a room (or chose to ignore it) I would not put it above them to be involved in credit card fraud.
I do not understand where the $20 million went that was invested into The Elms in 2011.
Pedicure was great. Kimberly was friendly and very professional.
Our second visit: room 356 was great because it was on a corner and the extra windows and light was beautiful. But the details were lacking: torn fitted sheet, chipped drink ware, very stained carpet and uncomfortable bed.
My main issue was with our spa bill: they added a (roughly) $50 service charge to a couples massage. The receipt had subtotal, gratuity, and total lines, so I tipped 20%. After, I dug a little deeper and realized that the service charge was an automatic gratuity, and I d tipped 20% of my bill + automatic tip. That kind of duplicity is unnecessarily deceitful, and I don t see us returning.
The spa is amazing and would recommend to anyone. 5 stars
