Digusting Pasta. Hardly any seafood and I couldn't eat it as worried after a bite that tasted off I would get food poisoning. Food quality was 0.1 out of ten. Staff said I could speak to the manager and get a free meal.next time but I didn't want to come back and have another meal. I hope the health department checks out the kitchen and soon. And if they have a manager...To you I say stop wasting your money on heaps of disinterested bar staff and get yourself a proper chef, because a five year old could have done better.

My Partner and I went there to have a meal. Our nightmare tour started with its waiters ( more precisely called Melissa). She was extremely rude and acting quite badly with a poor behaviour not even letting us make our order properly. My partner ordered a salad which came with a clear human BLACK HAIR on it. I requested to provide a new salad. After few minutes eating that....., again we found another hair ( or maybe the same hair) Really guys???!!!! What thfk are you guys doing over there if you cannot even comply with food quality for your customers??!!!! Really disgusting and poor service!! I have clear photo of it. Website don t let me upload it here. But I am going to report it for responsible authorities.
PS: When I tried to write this review, the website did not allow me. However, when I select 5 starts .... bang !! Big miracle !!!. I just changed the starts afterwards.

Hit and miss. Hit and miss. Sometimes quite good, sometimes pretty ordinary.

It's a pseudo-British pub, put together with kit from your standard Ye Olde English Pub Fittinges Shoppe. Check out the ceiling ' beams' - talk to a carpenter if you can't see what I mean. And yet . . . it's still an OK venue. Conveniently located. Comfortable. Well located for people watching. And the air conditioning is a downright blessing in Summer.

They do have some decent beer on tap (although British imports are generally served too cold), but they also stock the appalling Stella and its local equivalent, Furphy. As for food, I've seen whole plates left behind. Not game to try it myself.

Customer service ranges from engaging to enraging. You just never know what you'll get. Staff aren't actively hostile but often seem lost, unfocused or preoccupied (with what?). In general their role seems less one of customer service, and more of shrinkage control as they whip around busily chasing near-empty glasses without a glance, a smile or a friendly word. Yet there ARE great staff who bob up from time to time.

During the afternoons, the clientele seems to have a lot of Aussie tourist visitors. Not really a locals bar. On occasion there's also a real problem with idiot parents bringing in their feral children around dinner time. Tip to management: if I carry on and bother your customers, your security crew will bounce me out -- so why do you ignore it when kiddies are bothering your customers?

Pub prices seem pretty much top of the city, so value for money is . . . average. Friday happy hour with selected $6 pints can, however, redress some of that.

In the end, the Wheelbarrow and Elephant has four-star potential, but their present business model isn't likely to see them achieve it. But -- and it's an important but -- if you're passing through during the day and need somewhere to spend a little time, do stop in. It'll never be your local, but can still be a good spot to have a quiet pint or catch up with a friend.

Don't go to pubs any more, but found myself drawn to a so-called British pub. Being a POM and recalling pubs back in the day before they declined in UK I was perhaps jaded. The Elephant immediately sent me on a trip down memory lane. Great atmosphere, superb attentive service. Best pint Fullers ESB I've had in many a long year. Now for the American Buffalo Wings WOW! Better than any I ever had in 30 years of living there and I love wings. Perfectly executed a full kg for $15 you won't get a better bargain. Highly recommend The Elephant - I'll be back very soon Bangers and Mash are beckoning. Do yourself a favour Beer and Wings you can't go wrong.

Decent drinks, bar staff really helpful can't remember the young man's name but he was really helpful for beer and Joanna (maybe) was fantastic at cocktails her espresso martini was delicious. Food definitely size over substance. Staff definitely made the experience worth it.

Huge place, decent beers, not a bad stab at an English theme pub by any means - it even has the horrific 80's carpet that you'd hope for! Food is good, service is friendly, and sport is on the TV. Can't think of a single reason to mark the place down for anyone who's looking for a British pub in Melbourne... Unless you're the CAMRA type, of course.

Decent prices for drinks, DJ upstairs later, close to the station. Unfortunately cannot comment on the food, but it looked nice. Close to local eateries like SPQR and Spaghetti Tree if you're looking for a drink before you drop in for a reservation. Good views of the street below, and a selection of Televisions to watch sport from.

Nice food, however you have to go up to the counter and order; and also they don't provide table service so you're given a buzzer and have to go and collect your food from a counter...which is up some stairs and very difficult to navigate holding full plates!

Came here for an early dinner with my wife. We shared the Fish & Chips, and the Beef and Ale Pie. The fish & chips was done perfectly. It came with a small side-salad, a small tub of tartare sauce, and a large slice of lemon - yay, finally, a place that does not think lemons are worth gold and only give a meagre portion. The pie came "floating" in mushy peas, mashed sweet potato, and gravy. The peas, SP, and gravy was very good. The pie crust looked overdone - a tad too brown - but it was quite okay. The beef and thick gravy inside was tender and tasty. We both agreed the pie was the best meal. We drank Guinness. The only thing wrong was that they only served Guinness in pots or pints - we prefer schooner glasses, but what the heck - it's Guinness. Service was good - it was late Sunday arvo and not that busy. We would return.

Very hit and miss :(

Very hit and miss :(
Needs more bar staff who know how to adapt to increased patronage at short notice.
Waited an inordinate amount of time today and ended up walking out and going to Imperial rooftop where service was 1000% better.

English style pub, service great, menu a little limited considering they sell themselves as a UK pub, would have expected more traditional menu, price okay, would be nice for drinks only..arancini balls nice, mozzarella pizza pretty ordinary, would not order again, not typical UK menu though

Located at the top of the Bourke St hill in the heart of Melbourne the E&W combines a ye old English pub with modern sports loving facilities. The outdoor tables catch the afternoon sun and make for a perfect afternoon of drinking beer, watching people go by and chatting with friends. The food is generally good, with great steaks and a solid chicken parma option. Burgers are good but not their speciality but they do a burger and pint deal on Friday that makes them good value.
