Was absolutely the coolest learning adventure ever. Nestled in Maropeng, we traveled back in time to experience evolution. This outstanding creation is South Africas best kept secret. It is run by the University of Witswatersrand. @ Maropeng Cradle of Humankind

Its amazing the thought the goes into creating such sites.

The statues at the entrance timelines history in such an interesting way. Soo much information about human evolution and growth.

There's a mini "boat.ride" inside as well as a "twisting" bridge

Visit if you can.

Outstanding! Really worth exploring the entire area as well, including the sister site of the Sterkfontein Caves. The exemplary Maropeng Hotel and adjoining restaurant on site are definitely worth experiencing, even if only for 1 night.

The environment is wonderful. Relaxing, beautiful and the views of the Magalies mountains are spectacular. Unfortunately Tumulus Restaurant let us down, the reception was luke warm and we had to beg for service, perhaps we made a bad choice to take them up on their offer to sit outside though their advertising sells it so well...

We took our daughter as part of a road trip on her 16th birthday. Very special. The long walk to freedom statues very special especially my family was very active in the antipartheid movement. Stayed at the Maropeng Boutique Hotel. Lovely staff, excellent food and first class attention to detail. Cradle of humankind and Sterkfontein caves is a must for all South Africans. # proudly southafrican

The restaurant is suitable for families and companies.
Dress code smart casual, and the buffet is top notch, maybe one of the best in Gauteng.

Sadness, hopeless.Marupeng's website lists the hours when it's open, and according to the website hours the place is open, just to get there and find out the place is closed, hope they never open again, waste man s time, I will never bother to go again tell others about it too.

This was an amazing experience. The various technologies used to teach visitors about the cradle and all the archaeological information and finds are truly awesome. Kids can touch and listen and experience various extinct animals and their environments.

Great experience, very informative on how we have evolved.
A lot of questions are answered but also gets your mind asking new questions.
Resturant can be much better on presentation, has no feel to it, very bland.
But must admit, the drinks were nice and cold.
It was a nice day outing.

This is a great place to take kids. I was disappointed that there weren't more displays of the actual tools and bones found in the area, but if you want to teach your children about evolution and the area, its nice. Walking around outside the building is incredible, very beautiful. While you're there go to see the Sterkfontein caves closeby.

Excellent. Staff are friendly, professional and curtious. We enjoyed every moment. If you are scared of tight spaces, steer clear of the cave. It was not to bad for me, however, for my wife it was a daunting experience

Interesting and thought provoking, souvenirs aren't the cheapest but hey, you should expect that from these types of places. Also, do yourself a favour and order the chips at the little cafe near the ticket booth ;-)
