Sorry I did not visit this place. What mak4s you think so?
Excellent day out in Gauteng area. Captivating, informative, interesting and great fun for young and old. Combined with the visit to Sterkfontein is even better.
Absolutely beautiful. The heroes will give you a history lesson you didnt bargain for. There are statues of all our heroes. From Nelson Mandela to Charlotte Maxeke. They have a nice lil cafe there . The food was nothing to write home about but the experience of the place was everything. Put it on your to do list
Pleasantly surprised. Lots of animal variety and the ability to interact with cubs.
This is the place to be for a quiet serene holiday. Lots of game and reptiles to see. Great food and company. It's a place worth spending your hard earned cash on.
Cool building and museum. Be aware that there is a boat ride though and it is often filled with the terrified screams of children.
Suppose it will be nice for non-Christians that believe in yhe whole evolution theory. Scenery was nice.
Great interactive museum on the origins and evolution of humans. Great for family outing or school outings
Very well designed building that blends into the natural beauty surrounding it. The ride through the elements that created life is something to go for. The museum has many av shows describing how fossils are made, how earth & continents were formed and how life came into being. The last leg of the museum makes you marvel at the progress human kind has made but also gets you to introspect what our future would be if we keep going at the same pace without thinking about the planet. Inspirational and educational without being preachy. The view from the viewing decks makes you realise the gifts that human kind has been given. Once done with safaris and other things that Johannesburg has to offer, do pay a visit to this place to soak all that we have inherited.
Interesting to see the feeding of lions and other animals
Beautiful place - so close and yet feels like you're far away. Awesome family destination.
Loved the tour. Only problem i can foresee is the signage to inducatethe different sites.
Amazing experience! Long walk to freedom sculpture exhibition is stunning! Beautifully displayed.
Well maintained and worth a visit if you are interested in knowing about our origin..
It is a really amazing place to be with a group of people. It's educating and the tour is actually really well organized.
It's a very fascinating place to visit and the tour guides will make sure that you received a ton information about the place. However it would be better if you could visit the "museum" bit after the tour, so that you could take your time to look at the things and read the history, instead of it being a waiting area for the tour to begin.
Discovery of the old fossils in the world. Visit the place and discover your self.
My wife's reaction to the place was priceless. It was an eye opener that South Africa has a lot of stories to tell and that before you travel the world start knowing your place...
I can understand why many would find it interesting. But it was boring for me.
Nirox Foundation. What a wonderful place to visit.
A museum at where fossils of hominid discovered, It does a great job in telling the stories of how the earth came into its being, what Earths has gone throughm what lives has gone through on Earth, introducing varieties of hominids and the timelime of their existence, and how we homosapien thrives as a species while all other hominid species be extinct.
Quite a good layout and story flow, it actually tells quite much if you have time to really read into details of the displays.
The Sterkfontein Cave nearby is where they had fossils discovered, very short drive from the main museum, has a guided walk, not much to see indeed but not bad to have a look. Ask for the tour time so as to plan when to leave the museum.
Combined tickets available at the main museum also at the cave.
Cafe availables at both sites.
Cave may not be good for claustrophobic person.
Great experience with very friendly staff!
Better than anticipated! Do yourself a favour and buy a combo ticket :)
Very nice park and a lot of animals. You definitely should visit the cave it's worth seeing it. The only downside is the cubpetting. The animals get stressed so you may do not pet the cubs. Overall worth visiting.
Great experience...loved seeing historic footprints!
Very interesting experience and the tours are very informative
Great experience, especially visiting the place with our family from Canada. Exceeding our expectations. Shall be back.
This place is a "must" for everybody. The museum plus Sterkfontein cave is amazing. It is a privilege to see all those fossils and be inside the cave is a very emotional experience. The local guides are highly prepared. Very recommend!
nice chilled vibe. food is good and room service equally good . Fin and relaxing. Kust need an aircon.
A very interesting visit. Loved the water ride. The restaurant served a delicious buffet. Very friendly staff. Worth the visit. Educational trip for children.
The museum is very informative, the boat ride was cool but a bit scary for me because I don't like thunder overall it was good, there can be a group of kids now and then as they make educational field trips. Weird part though was when we were leaving, they have some crazy security measures, the security lady asked us to turn off the car and show the key to the camera. Not really sure what it's for but yeah that was a bit weitd for us.
Beautiful surrounds in the Magaliesberg, natural wonders in the Sterkfontein Caves, excellent explanations of early man at Maropeng, and several excellent hostelries in the area. What's not to like??
Expensive but great educational day out for older kids. Combine with a trip to the Sterkfontein Caves.
Great museum for the quantity of finds and the quality of the exhibits. Super museum education: interactive and suitable for everyone, even the youngest. From six years old anyway. Visit to the extraordinary sterkfontein quarries. I recommend the combined ticket Maropeng and cave. The museum offers many videos, cartoons, quiz games. The curio shop, on the other hand, is a little disappointing. Before I go, to prepare, I recommend the National Geographic special The Dawn of Humanity. You can find it there too but it lasts 1,5 h so it is better to taste it first
The service (especially at arrival at the caves) was unbelievable
Always love coming here on my visits to RSA. The place is very well maintained. Staff are friendly. It's so interesting. The exhibitions are extremely informative.
So full disclosure, did not go see the fossils.in the cave, rather just the museum and I assume those are a different type of fun so adding and Xtra star for them. Otherwise would have been three stars.
The surrounding nature was super interesting. The museum itself, while cool was just alright. If I had kids with me, I bet they would have enjoyed it a lot though :) but just adults? I'd recommend at least doing both the museum plus the caves.
Excellent service and a great experience. If you take the tour, ask for Fanyana.
Wow everyone has to visit so interesting. Lovely to get away and close by
