Pros:Front Desk Gentlemen were very kind. Aaron who worked in the pool area was the best! He was HARD-WORKING AND KIND IN EXTREME HEAT! The views were out of this world, the hotel is literally on a mountain! Cons: Wasn't Marriott Quality. The rooms are old and smell old. My room didn't feel clean. The sheets were not Marriott quality and they had small stain spots. I almost questioned if they were even clean. The only thing stopping that thought was the Marriott name! One of my washcloths had stains. The ceiling was chipping away and the nightstand was dirty. I was very disappointed in the quality of my room. Probably won't be back to this location until they update it .

The Marriott was clean and professionally maintained, the staff were friendly, helpful, and smiling, and universally spoke my language. The food was incredible (those burgers are to die for!) and the view was quite likely the best in the valley. Baseball fans were ecstatic to find the Marriott had a clear view of the entirety of the Angels field.

Great hotel and great service.

Great hotel and great service.

I would like to thank Ray in the front desk, great, smart and excellent person with great service. it was my second stay when Ray checked me in, but already make me feel like my home hotel, great job Ray, thanks for recognizing and valuing customer's loyalty, next time when return to the area, for sure will stay again.

Is a bit confusing to navigate to first time, but coming from out of state navigation takes you the incorrect way. Arriving at night doesn't always help though. Once there, the resort is beautiful and is spread out over decent acreage. Some really beautiful views from almost any angle. Would recommend for business travelers as well as vacationing familes.

Attended a December wedding and couldn't have been nicer!! For the service, seating was by the lower pool, with the wedding party elevated on a rocky ledge area. There were colorful flowers planted all along the elevated area, making the purchase of flower arrangements unnecessary. It was a stunning backdrop for a wedding. The ballroom was wonderful, with a large patio area just off the front with comfy seating, abundant heaters and flowers. The recommended vendor for DJ was outstanding - the dance floor was always packed. Food was good, as was the service. Could have used a lot more access to water though. Pitchers of water could be placed on tables after food is cleared, or even have a table on the side with pitchers or bottled water. We didn't stay at the hotel as we are local but one comment from a visitor was noticed - the hotel charges you for Wi-Fi. I haven't experienced that in over a decade and is something Marriottt should change. Apparently if you have a Marriott rewards account it is waived - but that's just silly, build it into the room price.

The Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at the Buttes is gorgeous inside and out. Staff are intuitive, the rooms are large, sparkling clean and very comfortable, and the hotels centralized location and proximity to the airport is convenient for business and leisure travelers. The grounds, pools and tennis courts are impeccably maintained.

Unlike any hotel you ve stayed at before, this place is built right into the rock. It s a masterpiece. The pool and views on the mountain are incredible. The pools are huge and connected by a passageway with a window in the middle. There is a slide and there are also hot tubs all around the mountain to try. One of my favorite resorts of all time, I would recommend to anyone looking for an interesting place to stay.

This is an older property but I love it. The natural landscaping is beautiful. Pool side bar it's unpretentious. My favorite part is the view. You can stand on the bridge and watch the airplanes chime and go across the highway. Pretty cool.

Lovely grounds. Fabulous place to sit and look out across the highest and watch the planes land.
It is near the highway and does need an upgrade.
The pool is lovely and the inserted got tubs could be romantic.

Our stay was absolutely perfect. The staff was so attentive to our needs and everyone was friendly and helpful. The resort is beautiful and very well maintained. The view from the pool was amazing and so tranquil.

Nice resort atmosphere with beautiful pools & hot tubs tucked in the rocks. Bathrooms a bit shabby, particularly shower areas. Stellar staff. The spa was great. Resort prices but that's to be expected.

From check in after long flight it is conveniently located near airport. Front desk was very helpful and welcoming. He was quickly able to get room and map. The pools are a huge part of my love for this place. Fantastic poolside service and plenty of open chairs for privacy. Desert landscape is so beautiful and blue skies are always there when I go here here. Top of the rock is a fantastic restaurant here and views with good food is always reliable here.
Yoga is offered some mornings and hiking is open for quests.
The only downside is rooms are a bit dated but clean. You also have to take elevator or stairs as the hotel is built into the rock.
The water fall as you enter the main lobby is so relaxing and down stairs from there is brunch or breakfast. It is one of a kind.

Place was really nice, only complaint was the charging for wifi. Really? 11 bucks PER DAY!? thats for the standard wifi, the premium was 13. ridiculous to pay almost 30 dollars for 3 days of wifi when that's almost my monthly bill at home. Also on the last day of our stay one of the housekeepers knocked for almost 2 minutes straight at 9am, when I opened the door she was almost surprised to see me, she then asked if we were leaving that day..... Uhh yeahh but check out isn't till noon what the hell. She just nodded and walked away. In a hurry much? From working at a hotel I know that knocking before check out time is a big no no

This place was so cool and as a construction guy it was so awesome to see how this place was built. They had an amazing pools with a slide, bar, food, and hot tubs. Would definitely go back here to stay beautiful views at night. Highly recommended!!

The resort is awesome with picturesque views. Huge resort, great restaurant and bars. However rooms are lil older and need to be updated. Especially the showers can use new tiles and drainage.

Interesting location. The lobby is neat and so are the pool and some of the walking areas. Very resort like. Rooms are adequate. Decent conference center venue as long as your conference doesn't depend too heavily on their ability to provide an internet connection for all attendees. They failed terribly on this point.

It is a nice place with a resort feel tucked is the hills of Tempe just off the the 10 fwy.

Pool areas (there are two) and multiple spas with steps that lead to them from the pool areas.

The restaurant is placed well with nice views, the food is good with plenty of selections and the service is good also.

Why this property does not get the fifth star is due to the aged look of the rooms. It is in need of a face lift, at least to keep up with it's own appearance of a quality resort. The rooms were very well taken care of. The beds are on the new side, but the rest of the decor needs a face lift. (At least the room I was in).

Lastly, there are plenty of things to do on the property. A good hike is right out the door, there are two sand volleyball courts, the fitness center is above average and there is a spa to be pampered also. I did not use the spa.

This hotel hasn't changed much in the 25 years i have been staying there, but still has all the charm and comfort it started with. The pool is gorgeous and fun for the kids. They could use a revamp of their room service menu, maybe offer a wider variety to their starters. The pretzel was good, though.

The grounds are beautiful in spring. The room we had is clean, bed is very comfortable but the room itself needs updating. The pool area has a lot of seating but the pool itself needed cleaning and the water features need a bit of touching up.

Customer service is terrible. On hold for 30 minutes just to find out why they haven't closed out my charge hold from a month ago to my bank account. The girl who answered after the first 11 minutes was so rude I had to ask for a manager and that apparently earned me more hold time. I guess once you're not a guest anymore, then your concerns don't matter. I strongly urge you to find anywhere else to stay but here. If you have stayed here in the past, know that their customer service has gone down hill. We stayed 5 days and were disappointed every day with every aspect. The food is not as good, the pool service was terrible, our food was raw, the room was not great...etc. There are better places with nicer people in AZ. In the time I have been on hold, I've been able to write two reviews. Fabulous job Marriott!

We went to top of the rock. Good food and beer selection. Good view of the city. The biggest problem is parking. They make you park a 1/4 mile away on the opposite side of the property down a hill. Then you get to walk up the hill past about 50 open parking spots they reserved for valet. Then walk up 2 flights of stairs. Well, at least I worked up an appetite.

The hotel reception and rooms are really nice. The pool and gym are great too. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it's not fully interior. You have to walk outside to get to other parts of the hotel. In the heat, it's not as comfortable.

Our company has hosted a 2-day conference at The Buttes in October/November for three years in a row and are happy to report that we signed our contract for the 4th year over 12 months in advance. The staff is amazing and always helpful, friendly and very professional. The location is just minutes away from Sky Harbor airport. The food is outstanding. They are in the process of updating their entire hotel but currently working on sections of the guest rooms. The views are outstanding.

Update: Just completed our 4th Annual workshop at The Buttes and was very pleased once again by the facility, service and quality of food served throughout our event! Looking at 2015 dates right now!

Dated rooms. Requested room types were not given to us. They told us they would put us in the room type we requested the next day on our 3 day stay period. Not recommended. We had to leave In the middle of the night to go elsewhere. If you use points to book your room don't expect a different experience. They will likely put you in the older rooms since you aren't paying for your room directly.

Pictures are deceiving! We stayed only 2 nights, the rooms were dirty and the entire resort is outdated and due for some remodeling, we were moved from our room due to noise complaint, impossible to stay quiet due to the thin walls, once we moved to the next room, there were spider webs on the ceiling. I will not be staying here again. The only nice thing about this place was their security guard and the front desk receptionist.

Great resort with some of the best views in the city! Currently going through a renovation so some areas were closed. Restaurants are ok, could use a bit more variety. Room was great and staff was very helpful. Pool is not big but still nice to have in the hot phoenix summer!

Dinner at Top of the Rock was awaful when you condiser the price of the meal. We went for restaurant week and only two of our six dishes were good. They also tried to serve my wife a dish that contained pineapple after we specified more than once that she was allergic to it and asked if the dish contained it.

I will be honest I have passed by this hotel / resort about a million times. I have wanted to stay here for years. Finally made the move and well... a bit underwhelmed. My wife and I were celebrating our 23rd anniversary. We showed up for check in and I asked if we could get a room with a view? The view was of the building across the freeway... not to mention the room was on the other end of the resort. Sooooo.... while we are walking to the room in BFE - it gave me time to notice that the carpet in the hallways was a bit dated and worn. At least I would say a bit more worn for a $300 a night room should be. Additionally when we finally got to the room it was not necessarily the cleanest. Now we have kids and we know that with that there is a certain amount of well - stuff that you put up with. After our hike we did not want go back and ask for a different room. The bathroom floor looked like it needed to be mopped, there was mildew in the shower, on the ceiling and spots in the grout and to be honest I just stayed at a much cleaner hotel in Ca for half the price and half the rating and it was cleaner. The front desk staff was uninterested and seemed a bit disconnected to what is going on around them. So my though was if we go back to the front desk - where would they send us next? Would we spend the first half an hour at the hotel wandering with our bags here and there? I don't know? Overall not a great visit... It was not all bad though. The bed was really great. We did sleep in until checkout and then mosey on our way. Also the room service was pretty good. A bit over priced but from what we tried for breakfast it was tasty and hot. Would I stay here again... I don't know. The phoenix area has several resorts to choose from. I may try a different one.

My fiance and i will definately be back here for our future staycations.
