Focous more on costumer relations and less on profit
Lower the price for the packages
Dont take 60 dollar deposit waste of time for the costumers to get a return on it
Stick by the schedule time if you are expecting a big group of people for a photo shoot get more photographers
All in all a very bad experie ce with these guys hope they improve soon or they will be out of business very soon

I was just going there for a UBC grad photo. I didn't need to pay anything because this is one of those class photos that my school had prepaid for, but Artona deceived me into paying an extra "$60 deposit" without even telling me why, they made me think the $60 deposit was mandatory just to get my grad photos taken. They also made my life more miserable by shipping the sample booklet to my home address in Calgary rather than my home address in Vancouver, I had painstakingly reminded them to ship to my Vancouver address!!!! Consequently there was no way for me to personally return the booklet and get my $60 deposit back. I personally wasted a lot of time calling them about this and my parents had to also waste time mailing the sample booklet back to Artona so that I might finally get my deposit back (not to mention having to waste money to pay for an envelope!). I'm still waiting for my $60 deposit back as I am writing this review, I hope they keep their word and no nasty surprise.

Artona conspiracy theory:
1. Deceive student into paying an extra $60 deposit for an otherwise free school organized photo shoot for year end class composite.
2. Make it extraordinarily annoying and time consuming for students to get the $60 deposit back (returning the physical booklet back to Artona). I guess some students just end up paying for something at Artona because they felt too lazy to go through the return process.

Hello,

Hello,
Would like to pass on a huge thank you to Josh. He helped me place an order this morning, and took me from completely confused to completing my order. He was not only very helpful, but extremely polite and considerate. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

I purchased my undergraduate and graduate ceremony photos from Artona (both University of Calgary graduation ceremonies) and they were both awful. My undergrad photos look slightly blurry and I remembered them being expensive, but couldn't recall exact pricing. When I received proofs for my second graduation, I was very hesitant to purchase again. I shouldn't have bothered. Quality is still awful and the price is ridiculous. I bought 4-5x7s (2 sheets) for a total of just under $80 with shipping. Very unhappy with the quality and pricing. For anyone else going through a graduation ceremony, go with your family and friend snapshots over the ones from Artona. I feel as though mine turned out better.

Although the people seem nice, I'm very disappointed by the customer service at Artona. My friends and I had our photos taken a long time ago, and still don't have access to our group photos. The refund process has been delayed as well and I've had to call twice to confirm that they've cancelled the order.

On a side note, the Group could use some web development help for their website.

Waited over 3 hours for photo session, charges $12 for shipping that takes up to 6 weeks, forces people to put down a $60 deposit that can only be retrieved if you physically bring back the booklet they send you to their place, robs students with highly overprice photos. There's just too much to write about.
I would have never chosen them if my school didn't force me to.

I booked an appointment for my graduation photos, ...

I booked an appointment for my graduation photos, "the yearbook ones", and was sent a conformation email telling me to be at least 15 minutes early for my appointment, which was at exactly 7:06! We arrived well in advance, but it soon became apparent that the photographers where running quite late. By the time we actually began to have our photos taken, it was almost 9 o'clock. While the staff at the front desk did their best to handle the backlog of folks waiting for their portraits and gave as updates as to how long the wait might be, the photographs themselves seemed very rushed. The photographers took little time to take care of any of my questions or concerns, and as a result I was not satisfied with the photos. I had Artona clearly has a very lucrative system set up, with the graduation photos very much engrained into the culture of local high schools, and encouraged by school staff. It really is a big part of graduation, and I am very disappointed with my experience.

Just had an awful experience with The Artona Group...

Just had an awful experience with The Artona Group Inc. photographers.

1. Not willing to apply the deposit they took to an order we were planning on making.

2. Not willing to refund the deposit even though they prominently advertise a complimentary photo session.

3. Telling us we now need to order a new higher amount (think it was $200) to apply the deposit payment they took. But won't let customers include photos from different session times in that minimum order amount.

They are claiming they made a contract - even though the person they had sign in was a minor.

We provided the above 3 ways to resolve the situation and keep a customer, but they were not interested in having a satisfied customer.
They indicated they would prefer we share this horrible experience with others.

Definitely a loose-loose approach to business.

Absolute rip-off!

Absolute rip-off!

Every person opting to purchase a product or service deserves to know well in advance, how much the whole gig will cost. Artona advertises that their whole service only cost $75. There is NO MENTION of any other costs on their websites. One digital download will cost you $111 before taxes, which ridiculously expensive. Make sure you enquiry about all costs before you get into this. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

Recently, after reading my original review I received a call from Artona. They apologized for my experience and offered to retake my entire session for free. I definitely did not expect them to make such an offer, but I was pleasantly surprised. During my second visit to Artona I can most definitely say that the outcome of my photos were much greater! There were 2 photographers who stood out to me, one Asian woman with round glasses and a man with quite the mustache, they were fantastic. Although individually I am satisfied, and I'm happy to see that Artona is trying to resolve the issues that customers are bringing up. Though, I still believe that there is a great amount of room left for improvement. I understand when days are busy that photographers may be in a rush but one must always remember that they are capturing important memories that people will be holding onto forever, not simply profit. Many of my friends pictures were crooked and not centered or they felt that they were being treated rudely by some unprofessional staff. Though not all staff are rude, my experience with the staff today was very wonderful. Just to keep in mind for the future artona, try to pay a little more attention to details like that, and make sure to thoroughly train your photographers to act better during stressful situations when the studio is crowded. I can definitely see Artona Group headed in a positive direction and I hope that next time I work with Artona that these positive changes will have been implemented!
________________________________________________________________________________
I would maybe tolerate their unbelievably high prices if the photos were incredible, but they're not. I felt extremely rushed while taking the photos, the service was not good and I felt like they were trying to ruin my experience just to make things go by faster. The point of artona is profit not good service or quality. Many of my photos were out of focus... And my friends had photos that weren't centered... My friend had overheard one photographer turn to the other after finishing one students photo to say "make sure you're alligned next time"... Instead of making the photographer retake the photos for the student. They knew something was wrong but didn't bother to fix it? Great customer service...

Wow. Of the 34 photos to choose from for my daughter - they've kindly included all the ones with her eyes closed or half closed and blank images? The images are such LOW quality on the site it is really hard to view them. The price? wow.
The regular school photos I've had before were better and her eyes were open in all of them for us to chose - yet for grad? HUGE jump in price and VERY poor QAQC.
The monopoly Artona has on graduation photos is clearly shown in the lack of care and attention and has led them to a path where they don't need to bother making an effort because our school districts have given them guaranteed work. Then they jack their price. London Drugs $5.99 Artona Grad price? $41.99.....
Shame.

Feces (US) or faeces (UK), also known by many other names, is a solid waste product from an animal digestive tract, discharged through the anus or cloaca during a process called defecation. Urine and feces together are called excreta. Artona is literal excreta.

With all the negative reviews, I was thoroughly surprised that my school was still using Artona for the graduation photos. I went in with an open mind, and they actually turned out really well! I did both a group photo and a individual photo and while I did have to wait quite a long time for my group photo to start because they fell behind, I still had a great time. Made it much easier being there with friends. It was a very exciting experience.

GUYS BIG SUGGESTION! dont ever go for artona, if u r graduating they r there to suck your money, so clever and selfish people. I paid for artona while graduating $75 for pictures in university and paid extra $60 as deposit and i called them that how can i get my deposit back, i dont want to buy my pictures right now. They said you can give the magazine back anytime and get the money back. ( i always mentioned her about my book date) but i went there they said you cant get the money back. They screwd up whole thing, thats disgusting and so stupid to get your own pictures you paid so much money nd they said they cant refund it... they are so unbelieveable and said pay extra $250 for your account and pay extra for your pictures thats so bad, Now i wonder why there rating is so low they dont know, how to expand business with customer service and there was an old guy who was like trying to shout. He is having no right to yell at customers. This is the way you guys earn your business. You guys are so bad and ridiculous. So I left my money as a form of donation to artona atleast they can get some lessons from successful business, how to earn customers.
So guys, hire any random photographer they can do way better than artona and will not ask for so much of money and give your pictures back to you on time and with respect.
Artona is worse i have ever had pictures of my graduation with. Totally bad experience, please dont do this mistake, if you do hire them than they will ruin your graduation pictures and your mood.
All the best guys!!!

I didn't want to make a big deal out of it tonight...

I didn't want to make a big deal out of it tonight but my friend told me to write a review so here it goes. So I signed in with a lady at the front desk with everything thing written and filled out. I come back after getting my group to come in for payment, my form was passed on to one of the male employee. I paid first since it was my picture and my payment ended up being $20. I thought that was weird when I saw the screen, but my card already went through. I paid for $20 when it was suppose to be $15. The guy didn't even ask me what picture I was doing until I paid for it and didn't apologize when he made the mistake of charging extra from what I wanted. I underlined what I wanted too so I don't get how you'd miss that. Even if you don't see it, shouldnt you ask before payment to be sure? In the end, he said no refunds so my friends that were told to only bring $15 had to find $20 and some of them barely managed to find the extra cash. Like come on Artona.

I had a pretty good experience, the photographer was nice and made it easy for me to get comfortable. The photos turned out really great, which is saying something since I'm not usually very photogenic. Their customer service is the bomb and everyone was very helpful and patient since I'm a bit dumb when it comes to how all of this stuff works.

The only thing I don't like is how high their prices are which is why I docked a star, but in the end you're paying for quality so this is more of a personal pet peeve.

Year after year I have had issues with rude staff. Some photographers don t seem to know what they re doing as many of the photos are posed awkwardly and turn out poorly. The photographer for the grad portrait session was very welcoming and professional; however, many pictures had bad angles and awkward set ups. Prices are too high for the quality of photos taken.

The process of getting pictures done is nice and efficient. The photographers are good at directing you.

My main complaint is with their pricing - for what you get, their pricing is absurdly high, especially considering students are forced to get their photos done here if they want to be in their yearbook/composite.

Another minor complaint as someone graduating from a second degree is they are definitely more oriented to high school students than university students - all of their forms and materials require you to include parent's contact info (I just put mine in again). This shouldn't be part of the process for university graduation photos (or at minimum made optional on the forms).

Been reading a lot of reviews on Artona lately and...

Been reading a lot of reviews on Artona lately and the negatives (1 star reviews) have some serious points that absolutely correct. As a former employee I also ended up leaving this company because of the same issues. They are OVERBOOKING. that is why it always seems so rushed. You're given FIVE MINUTES in each room then you're sent to the next. (High school grad).

This was at the start of the season. By the end of the season (january) they were booking EVEN MORE to try and get everyone's photos in on time. As a former photographer, I would like to state that the photographers hate rushing your kids just as much as you hate being rushed. We would love to take our time and provide quality photos that capture the uniqueness of every person.

And the actual cap and gown photos (which I mainly focused on) are so important and to feel like such a big moment is over so soon and you're not even happy with them.... we are disappointed too. And since it doesn't seem like this is a solution that will be fixed (as more schools seem to contact this company every year), as a former employee I will apologize for every family being rushed.

The owner of this company is a wonderful man and he honestly cares so much about your experience and the quality of the photos (as do many of the photographers) but unfortunately there are other people who are making these final decisions and I believe them to be decided for money, not quality or happiness of customers or staff.

This studio is beautiful and when given the time the staff are excited to be with you and will give you great quality. But my advice to customers is book a day time week day appointment. Book a weekend and you will not be happy.

And advice to the company, i loved working there. Until I had kids coming to my room already crying or miserable over an experience that should have been monumental and so important to them. The focus needs to be turned back to quality. Not how much money you can make.

Great photos... IF you book a weekday, day time appointment. (No response from the company needed. I've said all I need to say. )

Good and friendly staff! Just try to be respectful of the no pictures policy while in side the studio. They don't leave too much time for you so if you aren't satisfied with the photo or want to reshoot after seeing the picture, say something. They are there to help you! Also practise posing the night before =)

Not too bad customer service, but terrible at managing rushed hours; photo shoots were delayed by 3 hours at certain times. They forgot to send me my email containing all of my photos, so I had to ask them personally to send me the email... and even after they sent it they forgot to upload all of my photos into it. The photos itself are very overpriced as well. I would highly suggest another place for your photos.

Spectacular Service!! I had a series of unfortunate issues and delays with receiving my grad photos, when they finally arrived, they showed up bent almost in half in the mail. Although not directly Artona's fault, I was quite upset due to all the delays.
The manager at Artona went above and beyond to correct this - my photos were hand-delivered to my office the same day, and I was compensated for the photos. Incredible customer service from a local company who stands behind their product and name.

My friend and I graduated in the same semester and took photos in this store. We received same booklet (their same price on these two booklets) and select the same package to check out. However, there have around $50 difference between our photos. Because they increase the price during these two months without any notice. That is unfair! Took my grad photos here and all I can say that I was so upset. They literally don t care if you have your eyes closed or your hair was a mess and you would think that for them being professionals, the photos would turn out great. My hair was a mess in the yearbook photo and the guy didn t bother telling me that a piece of hair was sliding down... This may not seem like a big deal for most people but for me it is because I want my hair to look good. They let you choose what backgrounds you want for the middle room, but I didn t get to do any of the ones I chose. What s the point of choosing when the photographer picks for you anyways.

Every time you try to contact them regarding your order, you need to wait for at least 30 min on phone. I hung up after waiting for 45 or longer... The other option would be email, in that case, I wish you luck getting a reply!

To sum it all up, they have horrible customer service. Also, all previous reviews are 100% reliable. High schools have some kind of contract with the company so students are stuck with crappy services runned by amateur photographers (90% of them at least).

If you really want good grad photos to put around the house or give to relatives, find a separate Portrit Studio for that!

Our school had grad photos taken by Artona and the photos weren't up to par. We had white props to hold up against a white background, which makes no sense as some of the prop wasn't even visible in the photo. The poses done for the full body photos were awkward and unnatural and didn't translate well on camera. The prices are also outrageously high, I had to pay 60$ just to get the photo but then to also buy a singular 10x13 photo it costs $94.99! There doesn't seem to be a way to digitally download copies without the watermarks either. Its a price gouging company that can get away with it due to having a monopoly over grad photos thanks to being partnered with schools.

BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. PARENTS AND GRAD...

BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. PARENTS AND GRADS BEWARE! My first experience with Artona was in 2014 with my high school graduation photos. At that time, they weren't too bad, photos turned out nice, but they were overpriced. However, at the time, they did not seem so bad. My most recent experience with Artona was by far the worst experience with a company that I have EVER had. I just graduated from university, first in the family to attend, let alone graduate, so it was a big deal. I booked my photo session to be taken at the studio in Vancouver. Everything was fine, up until I got to Artona. When I arrived at Artona, my photos started later than when my appointment was booked for because the person who was booked before me, came late. While my photos were being taken, they not only rushed my appointment, but I had to wait for people who came AFTER me to get their photos done first. My parents were annoyed but I tried to keep it as a good experience. It wasn't until we placed the order for my photos where the real trouble came. We ordered a collection of photos, about 5 different poses, for about $500. This in itself was a rip off in my eyes. I don't know why they charged so much for photos. When the order was placed, I didn't get an email confirmation for over 2 weeks, and that only came because I had to call and ask for it. My order was placed on May 5, and I did not receive my photos till June 13. That is after I called them to follow up on my order as well. The pictures turned out okay, does not look anything special. The real problem occurred when my family wanted more copies of my photos. I didn't think it would be a big deal. I went to London drugs and they told me they couldn't make copies because of a copyright (which I had no idea about because Artona doesn't tell you these things). I called Artona, the First Lady that I spoke to was super friendly and said that she would give me a copyright release form via email. I sat and waited in the London Drugs parking lot for the email, and it never came. When I called back to inquire about the email, the RUDEST most ARROGANT manager picks up the phone and tells me that they cannot give a copyright release form because they still have my photos on file (why? they are my pictures, why is your company still keeping them?). I asked how long they would stay on file so I could just wait it out and then get the copyright release form, they said that they still have photos from 2013 (its now September 2019, why are you guys still keeping photos of people from 6 years ago?). The rude manager proceeded to tell me that I could get the digital copies which were already copyright released. I asked how much they were, and it was $200. THEY EXPECTED ME TO PAY $500 FOR MY ORIGINAL PHOTOS AND THEN ANOTHER $200 ON TOP OF THAT. Ridiculous. I told them that it was already expensive enough and that I just needed copies of 3 photos, and one copy each, so in total just 3 different photos. They told me it was possible if I paid the $200, otherwise it was not. I have never dealt with a company that is so greedy for money than Artona. Let alone the rude staff, unacceptable tardiness on their part, and overall unprofessionalism. No student, graduate, parent or grandparent should be expected to pay $500-$700 on just photos alone, not even frames included, or sitting fee, or whatever else they charge for. Graduations are supposed to be a time for celebration, not stressful or overly expensive. Please parents, DO NOT GO WITH ARTONA. Go somewhere else and get photos done, go get them printed elsewhere. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MONEY HUNGRY COMPANY. They do not care about you or your photos, they care about the money. If I could give them an honest rating it would be -5 stars.

BEWARE! We arrived on time and were kept waiting, 10 minutes into our wait a random photographer sat with us and said 'hi there, you know you're late?' Then left. All the photoshoots are timed (maximum 5 minutes for each themed 'room') not enough time to get a decent shot. Our second room was a disaster. The photographer was unbelievably condescending and rude, telling us to shut up and storming off when we told her that because we're paying for the service, we wanted the poses we'd planned (only 2, and not in addition to what they'd already scheduled) Overall our experience was condescending and unprofessional.

Good photos, but terrible customer service. I don't know why they put on their website that the group sessions will take 10-15 minutes, this may be true for the photo taking portion, but it doesn't include to 45-60 minutes they will be behind schedule. Our session was booked for 7:50 and we ended up taking our photos around 8:45. The camera man was friendly, fun and good and the photos were solid. But please just include the fact that you won't actually be going on time on your website, caused a lot of scheduling issues for me and my friends.
