The Westin is centrally located in San Francisco, right on Union Square.
The hotel, the lobby and the reception are impressive. The check-in was easy, but with a lot of explanations in rather poor English. Our room on the 12th floor was musty, with old carpets and heavy curtains. Different styles and colors give the rather small room a strange backdrop. Great view of the city. Very small bathroom, but a kind of storage room. Everything old, used and felt long gone. It is only cleaned superficially. The king size bed is large and comfortable. Price for the room very high and not really justified. Those who expect a modern and stylish hotel will find a baroque and renaissance-like interior and architecture. All in all an ok stay in an extremely expensive US metropolis.

Lovely updated old school hotel on Union Square. Couple of drawbacks, if you choose to help conserve water by not having fresh towels or fresh bed linens it also means they don't service your room at all no emptying the garbage no replenishing the incidentals no making the bed no cleaning whatsoever, secondly the showers very cool but the rim along the top of the tub doesn't drain right so it ends up on the bathroom floor instead of into the tub

Staff was attentive and nice, rooms were spacious and clean, and the hotel was beautiful. The only thing I had trouble with was the elevator, perhaps better communication on how to work that would be helpful for most guests.

Our stay has been wonderful. The hotel has beautiful details all around. The flowers smell fantastic as well as look pretty. The Clock Bar opens at 4pm and the staff is friendly. They also have a coffee shop and small bar in the main lobby area where the staff is excellent. The doormen, front desk, and concierge desk have all been extremely helpful in answering any of our questions. We had our housekeeping service set to every 3rd day, which is good if you don't want many interruptions during your stay.

Great breakfast with top shelf service.

The elevator give you a fabulous view of the city so turn around as you ride up, it's a sight to see.

Location is great, right on Union square. Close to BART transit station from SFO and other places in the city. Rooms are large for the city, with high ceilings. Service is everything you'd expect from a nice hotel. Also, near high end shopping.

Class. Sophistication. Ambiance. The three reasons I have stayed here over the years. Okay, the fourth: Location. Nope, there's also: Value. Trust me, you want to stay in San Fran, add this elegant hotel to your list. Just wish I hadn't lost my phone, because I had so many handsome photos of my last stay.

This hotel was great! Awesome views, nice elevator experience, and you re treated like royalty. From the time you walk in, to the view out the window when you re ending your day, this place makes it worth every penny. Bucket list destination for sure! It has been a while since I stayed because of COVID, but google reminded me today!

Clean. Good location. Room was comfortable. The only complaint is the ice machine, on my floor at least, was located behind the same door as the service area where the trash chute appears to be located. I went in for ice and the smell literally turned my stomach. The ice machine really needs to be relocated. Went to the Clock Bar in lobby and had a nice experience.

Beautiful building. Comfortable. Staff was nice.
Valet parking is expensive: 70$ per day.
But service seemed a bit short for such a big name in the hotel business.
Actually, we made several complaints about the TV not working and the bathtub drain not working properly but both remained not taken care of for the entirety of our stay.

Great hotel! I personally clung to the nostalgia that Hemingway was there and there is many more spots and dots of history in this place. Location was ok because it is shopping centric and the entrance to check in is a little foggy but just come in through Geary St Garage. Careful with Powell cause that's a crazy cable car street. The room was great and roomy with an amazing view on the 28th floor. I prefer this over another pretentious one I went to in the city for double the price.

It's the 2016 Holiday Season, and while shoppers are scrambling to load up their credit cards for the consumptive agenda of Christmas, this hotel finds nothing better to do than harass street musicians ("buskers") while they, the buskers, try to liven up the stressful streets with their serenades. This hotel thought it was in their best interest to call the SFPD to demand that they confiscate these buskers instruments - their livelihood, during their most rewarding time of year. This hotel doesn't have any rights to the sidewalk, and they are interfering with a long standing tradition of street musicians making the holiday season just a bit less soulless and plastic and market-tested-and-approved-make-you-buy-more-crap-tastic. Know what your money is buying for the community, and out it in a place that better serves the area and not their own agenda.

Hotel failed to tell us the floor above us was under construction prior to reservation. When we got there they promised no work on the weekend but all day long was hammering and drilling. When we complained they only apologized but insisted we were told construction would take place all day everyday. No way to provide customer care. Will not stay there again.

Long waits to check in and out, difficult to get information or help on finding things like bottled water. Not enough employees to service crowds of guests. Long hikes down empty hallways to get to your very small, old room. Definitely would not recommend for business travelers.

Nice historical hotel, renovated and kept the historic look. No executive lounge. Weak airconditing system. Not all the rooms are big with views. I had neither. Staff at desk very well trained and nice. Other staff very friendly and helpful... even one cleaning the halls. The floor I stayed on was just redone. New carpet smell, freshly painted, new furniture, updated bathroom..
Room a bit small but comfortable. No suitcase rack... I am sure they would have brought one if I called but not worth the hassle and just put my suitcase on the desk... not really enough room to put it on the floor without tripping over it. Probably just misplaced during renovation. Locking safe in closet, bathrobes, ironing board and iron, small coffee maker. Beautiful flowers in lobby. Great location.

This is the worst hotel I ever stayed. It's a rip off place. Besides paying so much for the hotel. You still need to pay $65 for parking (two blocks away is only $2 per hour), and $14.99 for WIFI, which s ridiculous. Also front desk services was so rude and no patient at all. After I agreed to pay for the internet, then I have problem access it. So I called front desk few times for help. The guy sounded so impatient, he end up forwarded my phone directly to the technician department without my permission. Next day when we leave, we didn t check out as usual. But then I figured since this place so unreasonable. For secure reason, I called to verify. The front desk guy told we should be there for check out. Anyways, He said he'll go ahead to charge total amount of $237 something thru my credit card, which I agreed. Last night when I verified my credit card bill, they charged me $249.75 instead. How dare a five star hotel cheated customer like this! Also forgot to mentioned the room we stayed has no view at all, when I open the window, I only can see next building s wall. When we first check in, the front desk sounds like provide us a good deal that we will be getting the 50% off for the breakfast which s $25 per person since we're the guest. Crazy!!

This is a very nice hotel. The lobby and ammenities are world class. Lots of marble and mahogany. The view of Union Square from our 12th floor room was right out of the movie "The Conversation", literally. The room was better than average (A little bigger than most hotel rooms with a full bathroom and walk-in closet).
My wife was disappointed that there was no way to get a steak on the room service menus. Speaking of which, the add-ons fees for room service are a little over the top.

Stayed here on a business trip. I usually stay at starwood properties, but the Westin is not my favorite. The rates are always high and I don't feel like they provide good enough service to justify it.

Pros: Clean rooms, decent gym, central location. For conferences, the rate is better than the other starwood properties near by (not by much)

Cons: There is no lounge (unlike the sheraton), they constantly forgot to refill the complimentary water, I had to get it from the front desk. The rooms are tiny (for what you pay). They gave me an upgraded room and the only upgrade was the view to Union Square... the rest was tiny!!!

Beautiful hotel full of old class charm. The hotel does have movie channels - 3 Showtime ones and TMC.. and the prices were ridiculous this week because of the SalesForce conference - and drop back down this weekend. Just be sure to double check before booking. The hotel is right in the heart of high-end shopping, next to a trolley stop and down the street from a bart station. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would love to stay here again!

We (family of 4) stayed here for 3 nights.

We (family of 4) stayed here for 3 nights.

The good:
- nice central location to public transportation at Union Sq, close to Chinatown
- hotel public areas were beautiful
- the glass elevators fun for the kids
- the rooms were well appointed
- front desk staff was friendly
- concierge staff was very helpful
- rooms/hotel was clean
- houseman responsive when calls placed for needed items

In need of Improvement:
- when we checked in (4 of us) there was only one bath towel and no shampoo, conditioner, etc. in the room. I forget what else they forgot but we had to call housekeeping three different times to get what we needed. Good hotels have a base number of towels and increase it with higher occupancy. I assume this was just an oversight on their part and not a norm.
- at check in we told the front desk to give access to our room for my mother and step-father who would be arriving the next day. The next morning, we called the front desk to confirm they will have access to our room to store their stuff and freshen up since we will be out all day. Low and behold, when my mother and step-father arrived, they were at first denied access, told I would have to come to the front desk or let them in personally, and not until they complained did the desk finally find the notes on the room that they should be allowed access.

Overall, I would definitely stay there again and enjoy the Westin brand.

Wonderful convenience place to stay in downtown San Francisco. But customer service is not 4-5star level. Disappointed that associates there seem to treat guests based on status, which they shouldn't. Every guest should be treated same way.

Room was nice and clean (what you would expect for paying so much) however it felt very cheap for what the price was. In fact the door to the bathroom was broken and no one fixed it even when we told the front desk about it.

Nicely remodeled landmark pre 1906 earthquake hotel with a 35 story luxury tower attached to the more ELEGANT and historic main red brick edifice. Prefer historic building rooms myself because they are more comfortable AND ELEGANT

We booked our room 2 months in advance, stipulating that we needed a king size bed due to my partner's neck and back injuries. When we arrived we were given a room with a double bed, the room was also very outdated and not particularly clean. We called down to have this fixed and ended up speaking to an extremely rude and confrontational "front desk manager" called Christine, she refused to help and was quite dismissive. This is not the customer service I have come to expect from our many stays in the Starwood hotel chain. I will never return to this hotel, and will not be booking a Westin for the foreseeable future. Appalling customer service in a sub-par hotel.

We're staying in the tower which is new for me. Normally I stay in the historic building and know what to expect. The room is clean as expected but a bit dated. On the Bonvoy app I'd requested additional blankets and foam pillows which weren't in the room when we checked in. I also asked for additional towels and toiletries and I don't want the room serviced when we're in residence. None of this was on the room. So either the request function on the app is faulty or someone on-site missed the request. Other than that we have a stunning view of the city and Union Square.

Great little cafe near the registration desk. Gourmet Sandwiches and Gourmet Bakery treats. Comfortable and quiet seating area to eat them. Also, during the holidays, they always have a beautiful holiday display in the lobby. Be sure to walk out to the lobby facing Union Square to see what I mean.
