Have stayed here a few times.
The PROS
The tower facing Union Square has some nice views.

The gym is big and has everything you need from cardio machines, free weights, yoga mats, foam rollers, water, towels, and wipes for cleaning machines if need be.

Breakfast was included due to my status. Not a brag, just a tip to accept this offer as the continental breakfast at the very nice restaurant on the first floor has a great variety of pastries, fruit, cereal, eggs, etc.

Rooms in the tower are newer and the beds are very comfortable

Location is great because it is very central with a lot of options for shopping and eating.

The only CON I would say is the front desk staff was slow and not staffed up to deal with a handful of people checking in. A little inconvenient after a long flight but not the end of the world. I don t mind waiting but it was evident that they were not well staffed for the size of the hotel. One person is not enough.

stay in the OLD part of the hotel if you want the nostalgia of an era past!
so cool with heavy iron stair case and the old clock with picture of shirley temple is really special. they used to was the money here, crazy right! also just so much history in the place. i wish i could go see the kitchen, i bet its huge!

Was told there was a spa before booking and had to find out in person that it was only an area for massage.

This is a problem I've had in the past and I don't appreciate feeling misled. One would think for the expense of the rooms one could find a wet or dry sauna which is what the term spa is indicative of. The oldest literature on the subject dates back to Roman times. The term is derived from the name of the town of Spa, Belgium. Specifically when the location was called Aquae Spadanae, sometimes incorrectly connected to the Latin word spargere meaning to scatter, sprinkle or moisten. Just how moist are these massages exactly? Could you please not use the word 'spa' its unnecessarily confusing.

The old side of the hotel is excellent, however be careful if you touch the room that is next to the elevator, you will hear all night the noise of the car going up and down ... otherwise an excellent place

Friendly, helpful staff.
Beautiful old building, maintained in immaculate condition.

Room 863 was small, simply appointed, and not terribly quiet. But everything was in working order, clean and well kept. Hallways are expansive, typical for a historical hotel from it's time. Great lines and architecture at every turn. The foyer was decked out with a miniature castle centerpiece and other holiday decorations. Every member of the staff I encountered, was friendly, professional, and delightfully helpful despite the utter chaos of the holiday shopping and Saturday night crowds. We were there for a small convention, and rather then pay for crappy well drinks at the party (obligated to use their bartenders and drink menus) at the rented meeting rooms, we went down to the cocktail lounge and had marvelously prepared drinks for The Same Price as a second rate rum and coke. The cocktail bar had a mix of relaxed hotel guests and over the top club-clothed customers. Excellent people watching bar.

Almost all was well here except for the fact that our room wasn't ready when we arrived. Our check-in was 2 hours before we arrived yet the room was still not prepared. They reluctantly provided drink vouchers for their bar while we waited another 45 minutes for the room to be ready. Aside from that, the room and the stay were as advertised. Great view of the Golden Gate if you're able to stay in the towers.

The Westin is gorgeous and really charming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and you can't beat the location. It's right by Union Square within walking distance to the Westfield Mall, restaurants, and nightlife. It's also just a couple blocks away from the BART.

Pretty good. Very nice. TV sucks, no movies. No fridge to store drinks. The old part (where I am staying) is in need of some miner renovation. Very nice hotel. Very pretty. 9/10 would recommend.

Excellent hotel in terms of comfort, location and staff. However we booked a room for 3 people and on arrival it was necessary to upgrade because the third person would have to sleep on the sofa.

Decent location but not the level of service one would expect from upper end brand.

We stayed 2/3 nights at this location on a three day reservation. We begged several staff members to allow us to adjust our reservations to allow us to leave a day early. While I completely understand the concept and revenue compensation behind these policies I would expect some sort of leniency.

Hotel was updated and clean upon appearance. The carpets in the room are totally nasty . We know hotels are not sterile environments one should not have their white socks turn black while walking in the room for 15 minutes.

Had high hopes that went unmet.

Very nice, the beds are awesome. Exactly what you need after a big flight from Australia. We also got a complementary bottle of champagne and strawberry chocolates for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Upon arrival we also received an early check in that helped so much. Thankyou very much.

Unfortunately we had a strike week. Several days without room arrangement. Good breakfast but little variety. The same every day. The hotel is beautiful. Room not very big but with nice details. Privileged location in Union Square.

Love the Westin! This location is in a perfect spot. Really close to shops, the mall, Bart Station, financial district and more. If you have never been on the trolly in San Francisco, there s one near the Westin.

The hotel looks like a historic building but the lobby and rooms are very modern and clean. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. Our room did not have a view, but I was offered an upgrade with a view for a fee however I was only staying for one night so i did not take the offer. Love the smell of the room, smells like new.

They do give you complimentary water if you re an SPG club member and there is a coffee maker in the room. The staff at the counter and at the door were nice and helpful with directions and activities going on in the area.

To preface this review, there is a labor strike at the hotel and they're short on staff, so my experience may differ from others.

The hotel is conveniently located in Union Square and is a beautiful hotel. However, for the price paid, the service has been sub-par. Our room wasn't cleaned the first night and we had to ask to have it cleaned the second. I was here with family and we booked a room with 2 double beds.

The hotel manager tried to put us in a suite with 1 King Bed and a pullout bed because they were "out of rooms with double beds". This room was located on the 4th floor and had thin windows in which the loud picketers outside could be heard. We went to the front desk and asked if they had anything else. They were able to put us in the taller tower in a basic room with 2 beds. The room was nice and we were mostly happy with it.

Marriott, you need to fix the issue with your employees. A hotel of this caliber shouldn't have sub-par service.

Great location, tower rooms are preferred but still need updating. If your Platinum, never expect an upgrade outside of getting a tower room. Stayed at this hotel 11x this year, and no suite upgrades.

For the price and lack of basic common amenities.. no courtesy water bottles, no toothpaste! Or toothbrush. I mean.. even budget motels give you cheap toothpaste. They want to charge you for toothbrush and toothpaste here. I'd be surprised if they don't charge you for each towel used.
