Because I have the love for management I have attended a multitude of management meetings with the intent to take the material back to the office and hit the ground running. Unfortunately, very rarely were protocols and policies implemented "for good." Life got busy and everything would always slip back to the same old routine. I was skeptical when Silkin reached out to me with fear the same thing would happen. However, I have been very pleased with the the results after just a year. My manager has the tools and confidence to manage the team. She even says its "easy!" Having Jack check in with us and guide us through the process has kept us on track to get things accomplished and we are so much better off than we were a year ago. We are setting goals, writing policies, managing staff, and still doing our every day tasks that we were before. I would recommend Silkin Management to anyone that really wants to learn how to manage their business and their staff. They are a life saver.

Wow!!! I am a general dentist and have had the pleasure of speaking to Mr. Ken DeRouchie on two (2) occasions. I am in this profession now for 41 years. Mr. DeRouchie went above and beyond my expectations. He seemed extremely interested in my questions and concerns. He took his time listening and making great recommendations to me regarding website design. He gave me 100% of his attention. I am the office manager of a dental practice that before Silkin, struggled with many things including an over-worked office manager, an unpredictable schedule that was often times not as full as it should be, and some big problems in accounts receivable. After working with Silkin we have doubled our Production and our practice, our former office manager was able to partially retire and gain her time back, and our Collections are consistently over 98%. They are a great team to work with!

At the end of my year of consulting I can say now ...

At the end of my year of consulting I can say now that Silkin is over-priced, and they do not know the Optometry industry well. They did help me with incorporating a good policy manual and job descriptions, stream-lined my employee interview process, etc. However they could not help me, nor offer me any resources for billing, credentialing, managed care plans, nor optical management that I sorely needed. I've since hired an optometry-specific consultant that did more for me in 6 months than Silkin did in a year. I'm sorry to say that I'm very disappointed after spending over $30,000 with Silkin. They continue to reach out to me to renew my consulting contract and purchase more services. Watch out! They are slick salesmen and I'm not sure they have your best interest at heart.

Silkin has helped me understand the management side of dentistry, an area that gets overlooked in dental school. I love the idea of managing by statistics - it just makes sense to me. Ways of hiring, techniques on staff training, methods on delegating tasks, and assigning monthly conditions are other areas that Silkin has instilled in my practice. I wouldn't be where I am today without Silkin. I highly recommend!

I am a retired family practice dentist (since 2013...

I am a retired family practice dentist (since 2013) and business owner who used Silkin for the last decade of his career. I can say with a high degree of certitude that my personal self-esteem, practice satisfaction, business success, and my personal relationships with patients and staff would not have been as great as it was had it not been for what I learned and applied from my Silkin training. They always used a learning gradient that was proper for me. There was always relevant training which was immediately applicable when I returned from Oregon. And when I grew to large to practically take staff there, they came to us. I definitely was able to justify the expense and got such huge returns on my investment, I only wish I had found them 10 years earlier!

Silkin Management Group completely exceeded my expectations! I went with the owner of the vet hospital I work for and had originally thought I was in for a week of boring conferences. It was nothing like that. Everyday I was completely engaged and was actually having FUN - at a management workshop! They made everything very easy to understand, went in baby steps and made sure we understood everything before moving on. Since starting with Silkin, our production has increased by $8,000 in only 3 months!! Everyone there is so relaxed and makes you feel like family. Having a person or group that has a perspective on the intricacy of dental business is helpful. Having relevant information from whom long term study of this industry is note worthy. Having a professional with perspective that sees the major pieces of business and treatment from both a 20,000 foot view but can dive into the weeds if need be- well that is phenomenal. I started with Silkin in 2008 mostly because my practice was not growing for three years in a row. I researched other consultants, talked with a few, and came to the conclusion that they wanted me to change my practice into a cookie cutter mold of their ideal practice. I filled out a consulting questionnaire through a business journal that Silkin received, and the changes began. I went with them because they wanted me to learn to evaluate and correct my practice problems so I did not have to rely on them forever. 2009 was a year for change...learning to evaluate my practice from patients to personnel...and helping me grow 30% that year when the economy was tanking all around me. 2010 was an entire year of continued consulting calls, but was mostly done with the knowledge I had learned from Silkin the year before. I still occasionally use their consulting expertise, but am very thankful for the skills they taught me. This was a very positive experience that left me with the knowledge of how to function as a dental office while those around me continue to struggle. It was a great choice for me.

We own a veterinary practice and started with Silkin in 2013. A lot of the practices they teach we were already doing as our owner has an MBA. It just helped us to make sure we were on track with what we needed but they also added some extra tricks for us.

We really enjoy everyone here but we do wish there was more veterinary specific course vs just putting everyone through the same courses that don't 100% relate to our business or maybe having a group of veterinary groups go at the same time so it's easier to discuss some of the same concerns we have.

The cost sometimes seems a bit much for what is offered and each time we go a new course is being recommended but overall it has been a positive experience.

We have been with Silkin Management Group for many years and have had tremendous gains in our dental practice in many ways. We started with them when we had been in practice for 5 years. We still had dental school loans, equipment loans, trying to get new patients and keep the ones we already had. It was a stressful time for us. But the people at Silkin were with us every step of the way. The first thing we did was take courses that helped us become great leaders in the practice. What we liked was that their program wasn't cookie cutter - they tailor their program to meet each doctor's needs and wants for their practice and personal life. I have a small animal veterinary hospital. It had been open for 3 years at the time we hired Silken. We were doing fairly well, but didn't really have a plan or any real business experience. We were growing slowly but steadily, but didn't know what we were supposed to be doing to monitor and grow our business. We just tried random ideas, but had no real way to track success or failure of the ideas we implemented. Basically we were flying blind. Our monthly numbers started to drop significantly at the time we hired Silken. We decided to make the investment in our business go get the business training we needed and the mentoring to help us learn, so we Hired Silken Management Group. Our experience has been nothing short of amazing! We went out for the initial training, came back and started implementing the new ideas. Our consultant, Scott, kept in close contact to answer our questions and to make sure we were following through. We learned which stats we should be monitoring and why. We also learned how to use the stats to track the success or failure of changes we were making. This is not a cookie-cutter management group. We were encouraged to use the information and ideas we found valuable to us, and we weren't pressured to implement any ideas we didn't like or didn't agree with. They allowed us to try the new ideas we came up with, and made it clear that our new policies and procedures should be in line with our personal and business philosophies. They didn't try to tell us how to do things. Sure they had a lot of great ideas, many of which we did implement. The bottom line is we have grown significantly each month since we hired them, and we are still being supported and mentored. Our gross income is up by 22.5% this year over last year! September's numbers were up by 27% this year over last September! It's not difficult, it's not magic. It's all about learning and implementing basic proven business techniques and learning which stats to monitor and what to do with them. Experiencing this level of growth in our current economy is nothing short of miraculous if you ask me. And there is no end in sight to our growth and success. The ideas are common sense and straight forward. If we don't feel comfortable about something, we don't have to do it. But they have encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone so that I can learn and grow as a business owner. I have absolutely no regrets about hiring Silken. I have only good things to say about them. They aren't happy unless I'm happy. If I am ever unhappy about something (which hasn't happened yet), they will absolutely make it right. Hiring Silken was one of the best business decisions I have made since starting the business 4 years ago.

One last thing, Never has anybody discussed religion or Scientology with me. I'm not a scientologist and really am not interested. I hired them to help my business and that's exactly what they are doing. Honestly I don't think it matters what their beliefs are, because they have never ever brought this up. As far as I'm concerned, they can believe whatever they want to as long as they allow me to believe what I want. It's simply a non-issue.

Originally we trained and studied methodology for organizing our clinic structure and developing a smooth flow of patients through the clinic. Recently we have integrated our services with medical and Naturpathic doctors. This has required going back to the drawing board as to structure the flow through the clinic. They are great at helping write up programs to effective getting everyone organized and working together in our clinic.

Buyer beware: Silkin business policy does not con...

Buyer beware: Silkin business policy does not conform to the normal refundable retainer of most professional services, consultants or legal advisors. The majority of bar associations and professional service organizations require the right to end representation whenever a client wants during the contract if they are unhappy with or loose confidence in the consultant or attorney. The client is then able to claim the balance of the retainer fee after paying the amount equivalent to the number of billable hours utilized. Silkin believes in a "non-refundable" clause on their retainer fees even if you loose confidence in their advice. So be very certain before signing the contract.

We signed up for Silkin consulting hoping it would help us mostly with staffing issues (hiring good attitudes and keeping them motivated and directed). AJ convinced us that the standard resume review and interview process were not giving us good odds of finding great attitudes and it is way to costly to keep hiring the wrong ones and then starting over. On our first call with Scott our assigned consultant we explained that we are understaffed and asked if we could get started right away with the information on how to do group interviews, personality and aptitude testing etc to better our "great hire" odds. Scott told us we should use the "Fast Flow" method and just take our best guess and hire someone then fire them within three days if it didn't look like they were working out. This seemed like a complete 180 from the original advice and greatly eroded our confidence. We talked to Fred King the CEO and explained that we are paying for advice similar to having an attorney on retainer and if you don't have confidence in your attorney because they give contradictory advice depending on the day, it is best to find a better fit. We asked to pay whatever fee per hour they charge for our first consultation and cancel the rest of our sessions. He said as CEO he can't do that, and his legal department strongly advises him to not let anyone out of a contract once it has been signed, no matter what. Our attorney said we could fight it in court, but it would be costly and an easier win if they give contradictory advice again. So I guess we are starting with another consultant, it is just hard to have faith in the advice once you've been told two opposing things. I hope it still works out, but wanted others to know that their business policy on the retainer fee does not conform to the norm, so make sure you are committed no matter what they tell you before signing.

Silkin Management is a company that doesn't just swoop in, solve your problems and then go away. They teach you how to run your business efficiently and profitably. My relationship with them began eight years ago and is still going strong today. Originally I didn't think I had much to improve in my practice, but I saw 25% growth in the first year with Silkin. Their services are very flexible so as to address any specific area of management in your practice that needs attention. When I am asked why I'm still using them, I say that "There's always new things to learn". I also believe that consulting firms are like diets, they all work for a while. The best diets involve a life-style change and are permanent. Likewise, for it to have lasting impact on one's practice, the implementation of a great management technology needs to be a long-term commitment. Thanks to Silkin I am building a new office that I will own... fulfilling another dream!

I am a dentist and used Silkin Management (Jack Hennessey) as a consultant when I began my practice. This firm helped me to understand and most importantly be aware of the ins and out of my practice by using graphs for production, collections, overhead, etc. Jack also assisted me with specifically defining staff positions/roles.

Various ways to increase production, streamline staff and tackle problems were discussed in depth on a week to week basis. My consultant was always willing to lend an ear and give constructive feedback.

If you listen and apply the techniques learned from this group, then your practice will grow. I had a great time learning.

Next, they gave me the background to train me to do it myself.
Next, they gave my staff training that increased their responsibility so that I could become a doctor-owner and trained my office manager to take the managerial part off my plate and onto hers. She is very capable.
Finally, they now continue to train my new staff on communication, sales, responsibility, and ethics. I continue to send new staff to them for basic training and experienced staff to them to increase their managerial skills.

One more thing, you see the same names and faces year after year after year. They practice what they preach.

I recently attended a webinar put on by Ken DeRouchie on the subject of social media reviews. The webinar was fabulous and stimulated some questions. I emailed the company regarding my questions and was delighted to get a prompt and personal response. I asked another question and this time instead of an email response, I got a phone call from Ken.
This man exceeded my expectations on several levels.
1. He had done his homework and had reviewed my website and reviews.
2. He spent over an hour on the phone giving suggestions and teaching me a massive amount of valuable information.
3. He gave freely and willingly of his time and knowledge (which was vast) expecting nothing in return, there was no catch! He really cared about helping people like myself improve their internet presence.
