It's a beautiful historic hotel! The parking is not so great, I could never find the breakfast in the morning there was no clear sign for it, and our room was so hot and never cooled down. We did have a nice clean room, and the bed was so soft. The attached Starbucks is a nice touch.

The rooms are updated, clean, and welcoming. Front desk staff was nice and helpful. The rooftop bar has a great view of the city with experienced bar tenders and the valet parking is easy. Would stay here again. Great accommodations for the price.

Stayed at this property the night of February 12, 2018. First I want to say that the staff was first rate. All were professional and helpful. The location on Main Street could not be better. The hotel is a converted early 1900's office building which offers incredible potential. The exterior could not be more impressive! The potential is not used and I will not stay there again if nothing changes.

Upon entering it is impressive. Beatutiful lobby that was once a bank 100 plus years ago. That's where it all ends. We were in room 607. I don't know about the rest of the rooms but this one is creepy. Its white. All white. White everywhere. I thought I was in a 1930's hospital. Horrible white everywhere. No pictures. No nothing, just white with a few art decoish fixtures. The bathroom and shower, well equipped but all in white! The only color in the place was the TV! It was actually disturbing how stark and white the room was. The furnishings were inadequate. One office chair and a desk. No chair to sit and read paper
or a book. And no small fridge! Not Sheraton expectations in my mind.

This hotel has such wasted potential. Location, history, and on and on but the decorator was psychologically disturbed. For a better experience book the other SPG property, the Aloft.

I really wish I had better to say. Sheraton, you can do so much better.

First I want to say the entire staff was just great!
My mistake was to book on the Reservations.com site.
We were here on July 3,4,5,6 this past weekend. We booked a Club level room and were given a 2nd floor standard room, (too Small).
no refrigerator, no ice, noisy water valves in the bathroom.
I don't feel like we got our moneys worth for $844.75 for 3 nights. no meals, no extra's.
Tried all the phone numbers that were given by staff to try to get some compensation, but to no avail. My younger brother who owns and operates a large Commercial Refrigeration Company in Columbia highly recommended your place to me. Don't think I will attempt it again.

Beautiful room was well-appointed, stocked with free bottled water, and had fast wifi. The rooftop bar had beautiful views, and the ground floor Starbucks was open latelate. The staff was friendly responsive, bringing me non-down pillows in less than 5 minutes from my front desk call. We walked to the Vista for dinner and drinks in under the 10 minutes.

For starters, It's an architectural darling, formerly a bank in the early1900's, so has that unique gothic revival flare. Secondly, AMAZING staff - always friendly and eager to make my stay more comfortable. Thirdly, the LOCATION is a wonder. if you're looking to be in the business district on Main Street or where the best restaurants & bars are in town, this is your space. If you choose to stay in, they have both a lounge that in a past life was a bank vault as well as a rooftop bar overlooking the city. Another perk: A STARBUCKS IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE HOTEL FOR YOUR MORNING PICK-ME-UP. I will never stay anywhere else in Columbia.
TO BE NOTED FOR CERTAIN PERSONALITY TYPES: you ARE in the heart of downtown - so while there are perks, there is also street noise ...and they do not discriminate against family members so they're dog friendly and fabulous

Amazing staff. If you love staying in an antique building, stay here. The bathrooms however, are modern. Love this place and one block from the state house Would be great if the lobby was bigger but it's an historic building. I must say, the rooftop bar is awesome with views of the entire city. Wouldn't stay any other place in Columbia.

Sweet! Hotwire got us a king room at the fancy Sheraton Downtown for $92! Boy did they get me alright... it truly was the $92 online special!

But they gave us the furthest room from the elevator on the 7th floor (I mentioned having 2 dogs & figured they would put us low & close to the exit like most hotels).

Observations:
- Quick & friendly check-in
- Decent views of the city & dumpsters in the alley
- Luggage cart had all flat tires & barely rolled
- Complicated & expensive parking ($12 to 22)
- Slowest & busiest elevators in the world
- No exhaust fan in the bathroom
- Bathroom TV doesn't work
- Room took over an hour to hit 68 degrees
- All the woodwork, floors & paint are beat up
- Area rug is full of old stains
- Bathroom door has gross splatter marks all over the glass
- Bathroom tile grout has turned from white/gray to brown
- No shower pressure & temperature constantly changes from luke warm to scalding hot
- Shower door is off the tracks, so you can't close it
- Warm bottle of Aquafina water on the table had a $4.99 price tag!
- Only one chair in the room for 2 people (picture shows 2 chairs)
- WORST BED IN AMERICA - hard, bouncy, and squeaky bed with non-supportive pillows (didn't sleep more than a couple hours). They advertise having some awesome mattress sleep system, but must've forgot it in the cheap rooms
- NO sound insulation from outside traffic, hallway, or other rooms. Sounded like a construction zone outside & a party inside at 11pm. Trash trucks coming and going through the alley ALL night long (rev bang bang crash beep beep rev)
- Loudest ice machine ever will scare you awake
- No trash bins outside the room, had to smell our Chinese food all night
- Free breakfast is only offered to VIP guests

Too bad Hotwire says "no refunds" because we would have turned around & walked out. We've had better rooms at Best Western & La Quinta for less than $92.

I worked as a Starbucks barista here for about half a year and loved it. While the hotel does provide it's guest with valet parking, anyone who's going soley for the underground cafe will have to park in the garage or street and pay the meter. Luckliy parking is free on the weekends! It's a great chill spot for business men/women as well as college students and tourists. Plus, you can bring your pets inside to get a puppuccino!!

Rooms have broken fixtures in bathrooms and the carpet had stains. Main doorknob to our room was hanging off literally. They gave us the wrong room at first and the second room we received had the same issues. No refrigerator on site. No ice unless you ask the front desk for some. No microwave. But they do have a safe in the room with the broken outside doorknobs for someone to get in. The top electronic lock didn't even work. No parking unless you park at the Hilton and pay 2 dollars an hour. They only offer valet parking. Had really noisy neighbors. Not worth the money. They didn't even try to make it right. Told us there wasn't a manager in. Two days later and still no word

Visited the Starbucks in the basement. It's not very convenient for disabled, my Mom had a very hard time with the stairs. The biggest dissapointment was they were out of Pumpkin latte ingredients which is what we went for.

THIS WAS NOT MY ORIGINAL POST!!! Google must have edited it. How can that be???? Below is what Google typed...

Centrally located in downtown and close to everything, but a little dated. Bars are not that exciting and the rooms oddly shaped. Club floor is not really worthwhile. Price was fair for what you get.

This is what I said on Trip Advisor...

Very disappointed in this dated hotel. Yes it is a retro-fitted pre-war office building, but everything is dated. The lobby is grungy, the Vault bar seems like a great idea but lacks character once inside. The roof bar sounds great until you get up there and it id dingy as well (also, only wine served was Reisling???).

We had a club level room because of my SPG status, but that was a big mistake. The club floor was noisy beyond belief. Coming and going into the club lounge at all hours by staff and guests and the door was slammed everytime (as it was a small floor and almost every room is within spitting distance of the lounge.)

The rooms lacked any character, no art work at all. The mattress and pillows were EXCELLENT by the way!

Worst part was the water pressure. The shower LITERALLY shut off halfway through my shower and I stood there with soap in my hair for a full minute or two until the water returned! When we mentioned this to the front desk the young woman replied "yeah, we know about that and it has been happening for a while and we don't know why", she suggested we maybe move to a lower floor because it seems to work better on lower floors. REALLY?

I won't be staying here again.

I stayed at this Hotel for 3 days and I highly recommend that you find anywhere else to stay. From the moment I arrived at Valet the service was poor, no said welcome or offered to help me with my bags. I had pre-paid for my room and confirm this directly, yet I was charged 3 times for incidentals for a total of $650 within hours of my arrival. when I asked the front desk to explain the story was different each time I asked. I was told that I would have to wait 2 days until Monday before I could get an answer. Curtain in the room was broken had to want 2 days and continued request to have it fix. Ice machine on my floor broken and floor above me machine discharged mole with my ice. Each time I ask to have my concern addressed it was like the staff could not be troubled with any issues, each time passing it to the next shift. No one took ownership and none of them communicated with the other. Shameful. Was told that the ice machine with mole in it was not suppose to be on but yet was being use by guests. I visited the roof top bar, and the best way to describe it was filthy. I had to get paper towels from the rest room to wipe down the bar myself. They don't take cash only credit cards and although they had charged me $350 for incidental when I arrived my card was charged again. I spoke with the GM directly telling him of my experience and he agreed to removal the incidental charges but charges were not release as promise after 3 days and providing them with the bank details and told they would contact me once it had been done. Never was contacted and when I call to follow up the hung up on me twice and left me on hold for 15 minutes until I got tired of waiting. This is not a real Sheraton property as the quality of service is that of a $10 roadside motel. No one cares, Book some where else.

The hotel is located in an old bank and they've left a lot of it intact which makes the lobby, elevators, etc. unique. I had a room on the 12th floor which had a decent view of the city and was quiet. The rooms have been though updates more recently and the bathroom was beautiful and spacious. There was a TV in both the main room and bathroom. But a couple little things keep it from getting 5 stars. The coffeemaker in my room didn't turn on even after trying multiple outlets (had a simple on/off switch so let's hope it wasn't user error). Also, one of the light switches to the bathroom would not stay turned off. Certainly not a huge deal, but frustrating when paying $150 a night.

Love the old building and details. The rooms are tiny but ok for someone on a business trip. Concierge room is small but the staff are great. It has a nice rooftop bar and a great full sized Starbucks in the basement.

They have several places to enjoy a drink. One being on the lobby floor, located in the actual bank vault. (The building was one of Columbia's first sky scrappers, and was a bank at one time). It's got a neat set up. The other place to get a drink, and watch a complete sunset; The Rooftop. Located on the 17th floor and you won't find another comparable place like it in Columbia.

Lovely historic building with the charm and quirks of age (more on that below.) The guest services staff were friendly and helpful, providing directions to the hotel when the Annual NC Pride event blocked streets, and providing some necessaries we'd left behind. The location is great for downtown shopping and the on-site amenities are worth exploring, especially the service at the roof-top bar and the club lounge.

The structure is historic and with that comes the sounds and character of age, including floorboards that creak a bit and the sounds of pipes and ventilation (none of this hindered a good night's sleep.) However, our sleep was delayed when the retrofitted fire alarm sensors were triggered by a faulty sensor, requiring a late-night technician visit to service the system before the fire-alarm-strobe-light in our room (and the rooms of all others on at least our floor) could be turned off.

However, the Assistant Guest Services Manager reached out to us after our stay, and provided excellent service recovery. Given this overall experience, I'd plan on staying there again.

Good

It's a historic hotel, so they need to remodel it. We are very dissatisfied with our stay. We had to change rooms because our 1st room water was leaking from the ceiling, then in the 2nd room, there was pubic hair on the bed, our sheets were not changed like we asked & the room was not cleaned because there was an empty water bottle on the floor before we moved in. This was a very bad experience for me.

Booking the room on the company mobile site was frustrating but actually getting there and checking in/ valet went by quickly. Staff was friendly, helpful and remembered who I was even though I was only there for one night. The room was clean but some aspects showed wear. It still was completely fine/useable/clean. The bed was weirdly creaky, but very comfortable. I did not use the hotel food services and had breakfast at the starbucks in the basement that had elevator access from the hotel. Checking out was also easy and the staff held my bag/car until i was finished amd ready to leave the city. I also like the historic nature of the building, and overall would stay here again

We love this hotel...the ambiance is so neat and historic and love the old vault! The beds are very comfortable and the linens are excellent. The rooms are relatively small, but mostly due to the use of the old building; however, the maximize the space available. The walking abilities from this hotel are incredible. The capital, restaurants, and the late night places are all easily within walking distance.

worst hotel ever!!!!! number one they gave us the wrong room we had to switch rooms. number 2 the volt was never open. number 3 I had to serve myself at the posh which included pour my own water pour my own coffee get my own ketchup off another table along with silverware. The server was also the cook he was wearing a hoodie with sneakers.... need I say more. to top it off they charged me twice for one night. I will never go back. don't ever stay here. It doesn't even deserve one star!

Never in my entire life have I had such a terrible stay at a hotel! For starters I arrived at my room with my girlfriend as I m laying in bed watching tv a cockroach crawls out from under the the blanket. We phone the front desk and the the sweet girl at the front desk named Lindsay us a 30% discount on our 3 night stay as well as access to their breakfast lounge. We move rooms and all seems well... Until we order room service. We order one bottle of $60 champagne which takes over an hour for them to bring to the room. During that time we discovered our ice bucket did not have a bag in it nor did the ice machine on our floor even work. Later on that evening we order room service again one Caesar salad which takes another hour and us having to call down to the lobby to check the status of it at which point the manager sweet Lindsay again who was amazing brought it up almost immediately. Wait it seriously gets better... I fall asleep and am terrified to be awoken by my girlfriends screams from the bathroom! At which point I run In there to find a cockroach the size of her hand. That s right! Second room and yet more cockroaches. Tired from exhaustion and not wanting to cause the kind hotel staff more stress in the wee hours of the night we opt to notify them in the morning. Morning comes OH Joy.. my girlfriend and myself awaken to find she has over 15 bed bug bites on her and I have several myself. We go down to the lobby where an arrogant not so helpful manager named Alex was coming on shift. We now have to move all of our things to a new room yet again. Alex offers to comp one night of our stay and that is all... He was reluctant to even do that. After I moved all of our things to the new room I never heard from Alex again. You would think after two rooms with multiple bugs the manager would go above and beyond to at least contact us and check on his guests. Later that evening my girlfriend realizes in all the moving that we have lost one of her favorite dresses which was not cheap by any means. She begins to cry as I phone the front desk and explain to them all we have been told through. They tell me her dress is nowhere to be found on hotel property. She begins balling her eyes out. We have to walk Down to the front desk and let them know that if the dress is not recovered we will be contacting corporate. We return to our room and surprise surprise they find the dress.. they bring it up to the room immediately but on different hangers as if someone was planning to take it. My girlfriend hugs her dress and is dances around the room overfilled with joy. A happy ending... needless to say I will not be staying here again quite possibly any Marriott or partner hotel for a very very long time.

The Starbucks in the bottom of this swanky little hotel is a favorite haunt of mine, definitely a favorite when I was in undergrad and needed a quiet place to study. I find that, compared to other coffee shops in the area, this one is among one of my favorites in the area.

Not as cool as presumed.

Edit: I have downgraded to one star because my toddler found a pill on the floor which I luckily caught before she put in her mouth. I also found a discarded fake nail on the floor.
This place is nasty. Our sheets were satined and the bathtub and sink were obviously not cleaned or at best given a quick wipe down because they were covered in hair and grime. I would have called to have them clean it but when you have a child ready to take a bath (of, forget a bath because the drain plug doesn t work), I had to clean it myself. Really this place is a huge disappointment. The only redeeming factor is the staff, they are nice. Other than that it s outdated and has a layer of filth that needs to really be deep cleaned. Will NOT be returning.

Ok, so, stayed several days last week, and had to return for a one business trip this week, easy and hassle free check in (same as last time) These guys even remembered that my truck was allowed to stay in the valet's lane outside due to being oversized! Top notch staff here!
This place is a must if staying downtown- plus I really enjoy to old building!

Very nice hotel! Love the decor, that old feeling to it but looks very modern. Staff is extremely nice, actually everyone I encountered during my stay was amazing. There was a guy in guest services, can not remember his name but he had dreads, who was so amazing and an enjoyable person to talk to. After a long day at work, it was a pleasure to engage in conversation with him. I will definitely stay here my next visit.
